Night comes fixing on the day.
Characters: Danny and Colleen
Setting: Morning on 1/29, a coffee shop in Manhattan
Content: Nothing questionable
Summary: Colleen and Danny hang out for a bit and then fight monsters probably because that's what we do here
Danny waited near the drink pick up counter, stepping out of the way of passerby with a small smile for anyone who caught his eye. It was packed in here this morning, they were lucky they'd even found a table (and one near the window, too). When his order was up, Danny grabbed the cardboard cups of coffee and bags of pastries with a murmured thanks and carried the whole lot of it to the condiment bar, expertly pulled the plastic lid off one and put in sugar and a little creamer, then weaved his way through the lobby to Colleen. "Coffee with cream and sugar, and a cherry turnover," he said, putting both in front of her and then dropping into the empty seat across the little table.
He was a tired, he'd been up for a couple days straight, giving himself boosts with his chi energy to stay awake and play bodyguard for Lee. Danny didn't need much sleep anyway, so he didn't mind. Hanging outside the Professor Wing's brownstone in the cold all night was something else, but Colleen had asked and so Danny would keep it up for as long as she wanted him to. He stifled a yawn and took a gulp of scalding coffee, black, with a shot of espresso. That'd give him a nice jolt. "Your Dad saw me this morning," he told her with a small smile. "So he knows it's more than me just hanging out with him all day. I expect he'll be pretty irritated." On the upside, maybe Lee would just invite him to stay over tonight, which would be an improvement over the concrete stoop where he'd spent last night sitting.
"Any idea how much longer I'll be playing watchdog?" he asked, mostly just curious. Danny definitely didn't mind; he enjoyed spending the time with Lee, and always appreciated an excuse not to sit in meetings at the office (even if Jeri wasn't especially happy about it). The only reason he wasn't with the professor now was because he'd gone into the university today after taking a few days off after he was attacked. He was rarely alone at the university and would be relatively safe there. For now, Danny had the chance to meet up with Colleen, get home for a shower, and swing by the office to check in on things. As soon as Professor Wing headed home, though, Danny would be back at his post.
