"I got cake," Wanda said as she entered, none of the customary excitement at this announcement evident in her tone or expression. She put the box on the counter and stared balefully as Jess uncorked their most expensive wine and poured it into glasses. This wasn't much of a celebration, but it would be a shame to let that bottle go to waste. "Crazy out there," she mumbled just to fill the silence, not because she thought Jessica wasn't aware. They'd both been out there trying to help.
"You get in touch with anyone?" she asked, opening the cake box to cut careful slices and then putting a few onto plates. Wanda hadn't been able to reach anyone by phone (which wasn't completely surprising, everyone had a lot to deal with at the moment), and she hadn't had time yet to go by anyone's home. At least, she reassured herself, the people she cared about were completely capable of handling themselves. One of the few advantages in this catastrophe that came with being superhuman.
