I was born without this fear, now only this seems clear Characters: Nick, Tony, Betty Setting: S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ Content: Nick Fury Summary: Nick gets his arm fixed and Tony hangs out with Betty
Maybe it had something to do with the trauma of Project Rebirth, but Nick really didn't like doctors and he wasn't fond of surgeries. He would rather suffer for awhile than have someone poking and prodding at him with anything or, worse, rooting around in his body. It put him on edge. So he'd ignored the increasing problems with his mechanized arm, damaged in two separate arm wrestling matches for as long as he possibly could. Until one morning he woke up and he couldn't even move his fucking fingers and had to bite the bullet and call in Stark to a S.H.I.E.L.D. lab to assess and handle the problem. It should've been painless; although the arm was wired into his central nervous system, there were supposed to be dampeners. But so far in this procedure Dr. Stark seemed to possess the sadism of a dentist. Or maybe all the unnecessary pain was a direct result of the uncomfortable topic that Fury insisted on bringing up.
"All I'm saying is- ow mother fucker- its pretty fucking strange that she's hiding out at a place that happens to belong to you and you don't know a damn thing about it- God dammit," Nick's remarks were interrupted by a hiss between his teeth as Stark twisted something and Fury felt his fist clench with a jolt of pain up his arm. This wasn't the first time the subject had been broached, and it probably wouldn't be the last. "Whatever," he muttered in concession, a cease fire, and dropped the subject. "Working on anything good lately?" he asked. Stark had to be doing something interesting with his time with the whole not being Iron Man thing.
