You think I care for all these phony pleasantries- Characters: Nick Fury as US Agent, open to anyone, multi-threads! Setting: Streets of New York Content: Nick Fury in disguise Summary: US Agent is out on patrol, looking for errant heroes Notes: Chances are you're not going to know it's Nick (power of the mask~) unless he reveals it to you. Pretend he's wearing a costume, I don't feel like making icons.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. strike force patrolling lower Manhattan would usually be ecstatic to have an Avenger accompany them. Not only was it kind of an honor, but Hammer's New Avengers usually came in handy in a tight spot. It should've been great that they had this guy along (the Cap-Wannabe, they called him behind his back), but it really wasn't. This silent, anti-social, and dangerous stranger was definitely no Captain America. He didn't really inspire courage so much as he inspired uneasiness and they kind of felt like they'd follow the guy into battle less for his leadership skills and more because he'd probably shoot them in the face.
You feared what you didn't know and most of them didn't know a thing about this guy except that he rarely said a word except to bark a command, and the rumors they heard about how he treated guys who he felt weren't doing their jobs or how he handled HYDRA goons and vigilantes alone in dark alleys. This was not someone you wanted to cross, or a guy you particularly want to work with or trust to have your back. Why, they silently complained, couldn't they get any of the hot chicks or that magic kid? Nobody particularly wanted to team up with the US Agent and today was no exception.
When their transport stopped the squadron leader stood and addressed them, "All right, we're going to patrol from Grand, fan out from Broadway, go down to- hey" he called out, indignant, at the back of US Agent as the man left the transport and went on his own down the sidewalk. Annoying as it was, the leader let him go and most of the team visibly relaxed. They weren't going to try and follow him, it was better this way. The man had his own methods and no one wanted to get in the way.
