Know thy self, know thy enemy.
Characters: West Coast Avengers
Setting: The California Desert outside LA
Content: Wonderful violence
Summary: It's the West Coast Avengers VS the Masters of Evil. Time to assemble!

"So are we together on the plan?" Clint asked for about the third time in a row. He glanced the team over as he bent down to hide against the side of a large boulder. While he waited on their responses and probably their sneering he shifted to peep his head up and over across the desert. "Wanda's on defense with shields. Pietro- hits hard and fast. Jan, you and I lay down the place with firepower." He turned back then and looked them all over. It was pretty obvious how excited he was. This was going to take everyone working to pull off. It didn't help that they didn't know what kind of roster their enemies had.

There it was before them. At long last they were standing on the front door of that bitch, the cowl. It was strong the hold of her team, the Masters of Evil. After months of work and countless dead ends here it was. It hadn't been an easy thing trying to shake an entire city out from her. The sort of stranglehold she had must have taken her years to build. Well, the was all ending now. The Avengers were here and her goose was cooked.

Personally Clint was just waiting to see Steve's face after all this. Man, oh man, there would be no denying it then. It was going to be big. Daily Bugle big. All they needed now was to get their act together for the operation. And that should simple enough, they'd only been training constantly since day one. Barton turned then and leafed through his quiver. Thumbing past the arrows he would start out with and visually marking the trick arrows he might need to put out a disaster. This year Christmas was coming a few days early.

Pietro dig his best not to roll his eyes as Barton went over the plan for the millionth time. He was as excited as a child in a candy store, and about as prepared too. Pietro still wasn't happy about taking orders from him, but he nodded.

"Understood it the first time, Barton," he mumbled, and took off mostly so he didn't have to deal with hearing a response.

Wanda wasn't quite as optimistic as Clint, they were going into this blind without knowing how large the Crimson Cowl's force was or even the layout of her fortress. Finding the place was an accomplishment, she supposed, but actually making it out alive would be a better one. At Clint's exuberant recounting of the plan (for the hundredth time) she gave a nod and exchanged a long look with Pietro. She wasn't going to let Clint or Jan know she was nervous about this but she couldn't hide that from Pietro. She offered him a terse smile that quickly disappeared as she joined Clint to look up over the boulder.

When Pietro took off there wasn't much time left to think about it or worry anymore. They had to do this and Clint seemed sure, even if Wanda wasn't. She raised her shield up around herself and stepped out from behind the rock, saying over her shoulder, "I'll do my best to shield you both from whatever they throw at us but if I can't see you, I may not be able to help." This was actually directed more towards Clint since Wanda was sure that Janet, as the Wasp, made a pretty small target in the first place and was very good at evasion. Clint would just rush in with arrows ready, like a bull in a china shop. Wanda just hoped he didn't fall off of anything tall since apparently she would shatter his delicate psyche if she tried to save him from that.

"I'm ready, it's about time we got to kick some butt," Janet enthused with an eager grin, flitting between the two and circling round Clint. "Just don't hit me with one of those, okay?" Giant spear arrow to the knee was not how she wanted to go down.

"Alright, Let's move out." Clint finished confidently as he stepped out from under their cove and out into the open. He turned to wave the rest of the gang forward but stopped part of the way. Some invisible force suddenly struck him and Clint was sent flying into the very boulder they'd been hiding behind. There was a loud crack from the impact and he landed on the ground with a wince. "Ooof!" Then the thing popped him again. He was kicked up into the air and fell back on his face. "Oh, what the fuc-" It slapped him silly a third time and poor Clint went rolling across the desert floor.

Well, this was going pretty shitty. That much was obvious. After finally coming to a stop, Clint looked up sharply and spit up a mouthful of sand. That was when he realized what was going on. He could tell from the sand kicking up that something was moving towards him. God, who knew living at the beach with Quickie was proving useful? "They have a speedster... UH, Wanda! Behind you!" A small man in a red and yellow costume seemingly grew out of thin air into a giant. He brought back a fist and came smashing down at the Scarlet Witch's back. He packed a lot of speed for a really big guy and to grow that fast? Had to be Pym Particles. "Got you Avengers now!" He jeered at the moment of impact.

Still that wasn't the least of their worries, a wall of ice was growing now and gradually encompassing the group's left flank. There was no doubt now. This was the Master's of Evil and the WCA had their work cut out for them. Clint got up off the ground, armed himself with an exploding shot, and fired at the wall of Ice. "Avengers Assemble!" Despite the pain of being flung around, He had to admit it felt good standing back up to say that war cry once more. Now they could go to work.

"We're right here, Barton," Pietro snapped in Clint's ear, despite having been absent moments before. Because if any speedster was going to mess with Hawkeye it was going to be Pietro, not this rip off.

Speed Demon was as plain as day to Pietro, and he earned a cheeky grin. At least someone would finally pose a proper challenge. The two disappeared in a whirlwind, kicking up sand, and almost entirely invisible to the rest of the team.

But Quicksilver had been doing this far longer than the wannabe, and it was all natural, so it was little surprise that when the dust cleared Speed Demon was left with just his head peeking out from the sand, face bruised and unable to escape no matter how much he struggled.

Assembling was rather hard to do, despite Clint's battle cry, when Wanda was laying on her stomach in the sand trying to figure out what the hell just hit her in the back. It registered only belatedly that Clint had said something about a speedster. Wanda lurched to her feet and consoled herself with the fact that her brother would likely be able to give the cretin a taste of his own medicine. She lifted her defenses once more, focused more strongly around herself and turned her focus on the wall of ice- which was when she saw a flash of something red out of the corner of her eye and felt a surge of energy.

It was the Crimson Cowl in a getup that rather irritated Wanda (imitation was not always the greatest form of a compliment) teleporting around the battlefield in flashes of dazzling light. The Scarlet Witch pursed her lips, entirely unimpressed by the Crimson Cowl and her little technological bag of tricks. A flash of light appeared right next to her but the expanding cybernetic cowl couldn't break Wanda's defenses so the Crimson Cowl teleported away again. Two could play at this game, though, and Wanda waited for the next flash of light and appeared right next to the Crimson Cowl to hit her with a hex bolt that overloaded the cowl's circuitry with a burst of energy.

The Crimson Cowl was still a skilled fighter, even without the teleportation provided by the cowl, and Wanda was forced to protect herself against several punches and kicks. She kept up her shields and aimed another hex, this one to trap the Cowl in a dome of energy. Wanda shifted her focus from her own defenses to keeping the Crimson Cowl trapped with her cowl disabled.

"HEY!" The small form of Wasp hurriedly buzzed through the air until she was level with Goliath, eyes narrowed and zapping him fiercely on the nose. "That move belongs to Hank Pym." She had to move quickly to dodge a giant hand, flying round him and firing off a round of wasp stings. The reaction she got (laughter, and then being caught swiftly in a giant, squeezing palm) didn't seem to amuse her.

The creases of his fist glowed with continued stings, and he curled his fist tighter. For a moment, there was silence-

-And then, something was pushing open his fists, Janet, growing rapidly, and soon just as tall as him, swinging back her arm and decking him. "Oh I forgot. It's my move too."

The trick-shot arrow hit dead on in the center of the growing ice and immediately exploded. A huge gaping hole cracked in the wall and behind it stood the Blizzard. The villain quickly raised his fists ready to start showering them again with his trademark ice rays. Those gauntlets of his seemed to be the source of that battle suit. Probably got an upgrade after joining up with the Cowl.

Well, Clint was having none of this. It was time to take this dirt bag out. Barton armed his bow and started firing on the rogue in rapid succession. Blizzard's right gauntlet got an arrow lodged deep into the circuitry and it started sizzling. "Damn Avengers!" He cursed as he turned his attention Hawkeye's way. Barton had to leap to the side in mid shot to avoid getting turned into a pop sickle. "Yeah, I know pal. They sure don't make 'em like they used too." Another quick arrow took out Blizzard's left gauntlet and then a follow up trick shot landed on the bad guy's forehead. There was a quick boom and Blizzard was down.

Barton gazed around then and took stock of the situation. That son of a bitch speedster from earlier was down. So was the giant guy and the Cowl. Wow, it was over. They'd won? Heh. "We did it team, we got 'em. Let's wrap up here. Good job."
