Take tomorrow's collar- Characters: Nick and Billy Setting: Nick's office, S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ Content: Nick Fury Summary: Nick has an appointment to meet with Mr. Kaplan
The man who walked beside Nick, as the pair burst into the waiting room outside his office, looked rather terrified. "-It was your fuckup, Collins, and I don't want to hear about it anymore!" ended Nick's tirade and the Collins in question gave a tremulous nod and then bolted. Nick turned his gaze to sweep over the waiting room, taking in the sympathetic look that Sheila shot at its only other inhabitant- the Kaplan Kid. He'd made the appointment days ago, but Nick had been too busy to see him immediately and had actually had to push the thing back twice. He had no idea what he wanted to talk to him about, unless it was District X, in which case he ought to be talking to a psychiatrist and not the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Actually, after District X and the genuine weirdness of the conversation he'd had with Kaplan then, Nick was more inclined to avoid him and definitely send him to that psychiatrist. Given Nick's list of fucked up shit he'd seen, he understood how the horrific and grotesque could throw off someone's emotional equilibrium, but even what was going on in District X didn't account for Kaplan's reaction that day. It was genuinely strange and one more worry that Nick didn't need. For all that he'd felt some affection for him before, weeks of dealing with ridiculous problems and putting the world back together had him in a less-than-charitable mood. The kid wasn't his responsibility anyway, and this thought made him glower a little more as he twitched a finger to gesture for Billy to follow him into his office.
