Who: Haemat (Louella Carlson), some NPC's When: BACKDATED some months ago... Where: Undisclosed enemy facility What: Slacker operatives really put Lou in a mood.
The blood spoke to her, as it always did. It told her where the weak points in each body were, which one was prone to Atherosclerosis, which was ripe for a thrombosis and its main complication, embolisation. So many choices, and there was rarely the leisure to go for the more elegant solution. More often than not, expediency was the name of the game. Lou could only use her ability on two or three bodies at a time, so it was important to choose and take out the more dangerous quarry up front.
In the case of the three armed guards before her, it was best not to take chances, so she caused them a series of strokes that disabled all their major motor functions in a matter of seconds. The next wave collapsed on either side of her like twin rows of dominos; succumbing to acute myocardial infarction, or the common heart attack, when Haemat abruptly interrupted the blood flow to different parts of their hearts.
She stepped over the strewn, twitching bodies and dropped to the floor when she saw a spark out of the corner of her eye. She tucked her head and dropped into a roll as someone fired an energy weapon into the room, taking out several of the unfortunate bodies still standing. Where the hell was her team? Those useless good for nothing goons were probably waiting for her to get killed before jumping into the fray.
Haemat threw all of her will into an attack that should have given the armed man a fulminating heart attack, but she felt her power fizzle as it approached him. He's shielded, dammit! Psionic shields were the bane of her existence. However, her training had taken that into account, as well as the fact that psi-shields blocked her power unless there was an open wound anywhere on the shielded target. She ran for cover as her prey reloaded, but not before pulling out her trusty throwing knives from her back holster and letting them fly. She heard a curse and smiled. Then a focused beam of energy ate right through the wall before her and singed her side just under her ribs. A few inches to the left and she would be dead. No time to be smug, she reminded herself in a fury. She snarled and her power crept out of her with the force of her rage. Exsanguination was never pretty to anyone, except to Haemat. She loved to see blood flying everywhere, doing its lovely dance for her.
She heard the voices of the rest of her team and rolled her eyes. Sure, come in now, after I've done all the work. She saw one of them run by and she stopped him in his tracks by paralyzing the blood flow in all of his body. "Get me the healer now!" she shrieked, and let him go. The man tossed her a murderous glare, but turned tail and went back for the healer. He knew Haemat had no compunctions regarding friendly fire, as it were. As far as Lou was concerned, this was mission accomplished. The latest so-called mutant cure was just beyond those doors where the man with the ray gun had stood, but blasting through thick metal walls wasn't really her department. Her part was done. She idly thought that if the burn were to scar, she would kill the healer in his sleep for his negligence.
