01. This RPG is set in an alternate universe -- that is, we do not follow canon from fifth year and onward. The story is following the “final battle” between good and evil at Hogwarts (the battle was moved to the midst of the sixth year due to the closing of the RPG that this one is a sequel to). The back story, the story of the RPG preceding this one, is not entirely important (it would be a lot for us to expect you to know) just make sure you read the FAQ and understand the important plot points from the old RPG mentioned there.
02. The RPG’s character limit is five, though there is a certain amount of time you must be playing before you can acquire your next characters. After a few months if we feel you are active enough and are handling your first/second/third characters well then your application for your second/third/fourth/fifth character will be reviewed for acceptance.
03. We will not accept original characters. There are a ton of canon characters (a lot of whom don’t have much information about them and can be easily turned into an “original”) to choose from. This site has lists of characters and any information given about them. If you do choose one of the undeveloped characters, please don’t Mary-Sue them. We will also not accept characters modeled after someone in another series. Not sure if your character is a Mary-Sue or not? Try this quiz.
04. Refrain from out of character drama. If you have problems with another member that you can’t resolve on your own, then PM the mod account or get in contact Ashley (Oliver, Evey, Astoria, Don), or Pinky (Harry, Hannah, Pansy, Charlie, Nica) and we will do what we can to help.
05. This RPG is slash-friendly, but we do not allow any adult material within posts. Innuendo is acceptable but anything explicit must be done in a locked post or between the characters over AIM. This rule is in place because we can get into legal trouble if underage players read explicit material, and because Ashley and Pinky don’t want to know what icky things your characters are doing behind locked posts.
06. The mods, and all the players, have responsibilities and lives outside the game. Real life always comes first, so don’t be afraid to tell us if you need to take a hiatus for any reason. Also remember that mods and players can get busy with real life, so don’t feel upset if you don’t get replies to PM or the like right away. The mods will check the mod account messages as often as we remember frequently and get back to you as soon as we can.
07. Send PMs and questions to the mod account. We do check our player accounts, it’s just easier to have one specific place to take all your questions/comments/concerns. Also, you can reach us on AIM under the screen names Elf Arluinuial (Ashley) and catwomanfrommoon (Pinky). Don’t be afraid to IM, even if it’s just to chat. We love talking to people.
08. Be aware of and respectful towards your fellow players. Do not god-mod without the other character’s permission and do not Mary Sue. Follow the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have done to yourself (I think it goes something like that).
09. Please don’t use text emoticons while in character; generally a good PB icon can describe your character’s mood fairly well.
10. Activity Status: Activity is important to this game, but we will be lenient because as we’ve said, real life does come first. If you’re going on hiatus please post it to the OOC board. If you haven’t posted within two weeks or made a hiatus announcement, then the mods will contact you and find out why you haven’t been posting. If you ignore the first attempt at contact, the mods will contact you once more after a month and if the message is ignored again then we will have to remove you from the game. We’re giving ample opportunity for you to remain in the game and so long as you can give us a reason as to why you haven’t been posting, and a promise that you will post as soon as you can; we will be understanding. Sometimes school and work and life become overwhelming, so just keep us updated on your status and we’ll keep you in the game.
11. Be careful with any food or drinks around this RPG. Choking on food or spitting your drink out from laughter at the amusing insanity can cause the death of yourself or your computer.
12. In the application where it says, "Have you read all the rules?" put "Nope! So there!" so that we know that you did, in fact, read them. There are also similar phrases in the Plot/Character FAQ and/or the Gameplay FAQ. Read the FAQs, locate the phrases, and include them in your application.
13. Please, no anachronisms. The rpg is set in 2000 (darn year changes), so keep any references to Muggle Culture within the appropriate time frame. Also remember that your character’s age, blood-status, experiences, etc will all affect how much and what they actually know about Muggle culture. Also remember that your characters are generally British, so their knowledge is also regulated by that. If your character shouldn’t know something, then don’t RP it. The exception to this rule is if you use a singer as a PB. If you use a singer as a PB, and would like you have your character sing a song, you are allowed to use performances and the like.
14. Even if you are aware of information, your character may not be. Unless the information is explicitly told to your character by another character or you and another player have arranged for your character to eavesdrop, chances are you don’t know the details of private conversations or events. Please try and keep your character knowledge and your player knowledge separate.
15. Godmoding is only allowed with the permission of all characters involved, even those not in the scene. If you have concerns that your character or familiars (pets/live teddy bears/etc) involved with your character have been improperly godmoded, inform the mods so that we can take care of the problem. If a mod comes across a thread that includes inappropriate godmoding, we reserve the right to pause the thread until all parties give express permission to the mod to allow the godmoding.
16. Your characters can fight, but if there is any excessive godmoding involved the mods will pause the thread until the matter is cleared up. Please tell us ahead of time if you plan, and all characters involved have agreed to, excessively godmod during a fight. Do not RP actions for another character that they wouldn’t RP themselves.
17. In wizarding Britain discrimination only goes so far as bloodlines, wealth and power. Any personal problems you have with religion, ethnicity, orientation, or any other discriminatory issues should not become a problem in the RPG. Please do not RP any unnecessary discrimination towards other characters’ personal characteristics that aren’t important or valid in the wizarding world.
18. Canon bending is fine. Canon breaking is not. For example:
~Your character and PB must bear some resemblance to the character as written in canon. If you aren’t sure whether it does or not, just ask a mod and we’ll give you our opinion.
~If your character is supposed to know a language, or a culture, beyond having picked up a few phrases of this or that from books or television, please, actually know them.
~When the characters were all in school, pets were more restricted. However, now that mostly everybody is living on their own right now, you can have as many or as few pets as you desire. Everybody loves pets, let's spread the love!
19. If you are going to RP something that will have a huge affect on a large number of other characters (for example, if someone decided to randomly bring Voldemort back to life) please inform the mods before hand so that we can review the idea.
20. If you aren't sure about something, ask a mod and any characters involved in what you are about to do for approval. Also, if you aren’t sure about what a character means when they say something, just ask the player before replying. As long as you aren’t completely breaking canon, godmoding another character, or pissing someone off then chances are we aren’t going to stop any plots you come up with. Please keep in mind that the mod account is used for elements the mods want to put into play. Please contact the mods before having one of your characters do something that you've seen done by the mod account, just as a precaution. Also, if you have a plot that requires a lot of planning, contact the mods and we’ll work through it with you.
21. Interact! Don’t let House/political prejudices or other character relationships affect who you interact with. Unless it’s absolutely positively out of character for your character to speak to someone (and chances are, you’ll always have a chance to speak) then try to interact with anyone and everyone. Even if the characters hate one another, they can still exchange insults in the hall. Interaction makes for plots, fun, and keeps the game going.
22. After you're accepted, please fill out our player survey and post it to the OOC community. It's a nifty little way for other players to get to know you a little bit. :)
