After her little chat with Logan (in which they'd managed to absolutely avoid any mention of the whole Emma debacle), Jean had headed back to the mansion. Sitting on the hard wood of the dock for so long made her butt hurt. Sighing, she padded in through the back door. She really should go in search of Scott, shouldn't she.... Or she could just avoid it or another minute...hour...day...the longer the better, really
Scott sighed and rubbed his face. He was in his room at the moment, and had been avoiding any contact with Jean or Emma. Instead, he'd been choosing to focus on the team and he was happy with Paige's response, with Rogue's activity and basically everyone's general attitude -- Logan and Remy excluded of course.
Leaving his room, he decided to go out for a walk, try to clear his head. Unfortunately for him, he decided the back way was a good way to avoid anything and ended up bumping into the one person he didn't want to see.
"Jean!"
Shit. Err. "Scott?" Well this couldn't be more awkward. No...it could if Emma showed up, but Jean's trying to not jinx herself here. "Uh...hi."
God, he had no idea what to say -- other than a complete and utter lie. "I was looking for you, I'm glad I found you."
She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "You were? Had something to discuss with me?"
He nodded. "Is there somewhere we can go? To talk? Privately?" He knew they could just have this conversation in their heads but he now that he had committed himself to this conversation, he wanted to actually hear the words.
A nod. "Offices probably aren't the best choice." Students barging in and out all the time. "Our... My bedroom is pretty private. Shielding and everything."
Unfortunately, the shielding comment was a good one. Charles had been casually ignoring the situation, but he knew Emma would budge right in if she could. "Alright. Let's go."
He turned around and headed up the stairs to what used to be their bedroom. Stepping in, he realized it'd been a while since he'd been there, but all the familiarity assaulted him.
Yeah, well... Jean had been trying to not spend much time there for exactly that reason. Too many reminders of their life together. "Ignore the mess." With no Scott, there was no one to nag at her to clean up the clothing strewn about. "I know it's bad."
He raised an eyebrow. "Bad? This is a disaster. Honestly Jean, the students take better care of their room than you do."
Walking through it gingerly, he managed to find a chair that wasn't covered in clothes, and sat down.
"Hey...I used to be a lot worse," she answered. "You saw my room when I first moved in." Really really bad. She flopped down on the bed, ignorant of any clothing underneath her. "So...."
He rolled his eyes beneath the visor. "So." He really didn't know where to go with this at all. "You know we need to talk right. This isn't completely random and odd to you."”
No," she shook her head. "I know. I should've come to find you I just...I kept putting it off."
He sighed. "God Jean. What a mess. I don't know what's going on at all. Do you?"
"I know what's going on. I don't know why it's going on...and i don't know what we're going to do about it," she replied, legs curling up underneath her. "
Well for once they were both on the same page. "I know. What happened, Jean? A year ago, I never thought we'd be in this position and now?" He sighed again. "I never planned for this."
“But it happened," Jean answered. "Why? Was it all of the traveling? Were you made an offer you couldn't refuse?" She's getting bitchy, and she sighed, shaking her head. "It doesn't matter. I just...we're going to have to do something."'
”We are. And it wasn't the travelling," he corrected her. Nor did I get an offer I couldn't refuse". For your information, I never touched Emma until we broke up. And yes, I know, that first time we only broke up for a week, but," he stopped. "It doesn't matter. We're here now. And we should just deal with now."
"So what are we going to do?" She questioned softly. "Break up for good? Try to work through this?
"What do you want?" He was sick of making decisions.
"I don't know," Jean admitted. "I don't want to entirely lose you. But if you think you'd be happier with Emma..." A shrug of her shoulders as she looked up at him. "I want you to be happy, Scott... I don't want this relationship to be a golden cage."
"Should we take a break? Revert to just dating? I want you to be happy with whatever we do, Jean. I can't make the decision for both of us." He got up from his chair and sat down closer to her, enough to hold onto her hand. "I don't want to lose you either, but I want to make sure we're together because we love each other, not because we're so used to one another."
She nodded, squeezing his hand. "Dating would probably be the best. Should we....are we...." She paused, eyes dropping for a minute. "Exclusively or no? Do you want to date other people? See how they measure up?" Does he want a chance to explore things with Emma?
"Isn't that the only way to see if we should be together?" He hesitated before saying it, but it was true. After how many years together, he figured it was the only way.
A nod. "Just...ironing out all the details." She dislikes Emma, but....she has to think about her and Scott here.
"This isn't easy for me either Jean," he said. "I know you're thinking about Emma, but this isn't even about her at all. I just want to know I love you for you." That's all."
She squeezed his hand again, a bit harder this time. "Scott... Whatever happens...whatever we decide... I love you, too." Really.
Leaning towards her, he brushed his lips gently across hers. "I know, Jean." He tugged his hand away from hers and got up to go. "We'll talk later, okay?"
The kiss startled her, but she nodded, swallowing hard. "Yeah... Later." She'll just...stay in her room for the moment.
