It was beautiful, and she just itched to learn about its complete history as soon as she could. She marvelled in the shimmering Lake to the forest which had grown thicker and darker, which was something Helga wouldn't have thought possible back in the day. The deep layer of snow made it even more beautiful, even if it made her socks and shoes wet. She would've fixed the matter with a quick spell, but she was too enamoured by what she saw to fathom such trivial things. It was theirs, their creation was still standing. And there were students sweeping across the sky mounted upon broomsticks. She had never seen anything of that nature in her day as such a mode of transport had yet to be truly honed and widely accepted. And even if that were the case, there was always the matter of the non-existence of quidditch back in the day.
She closed her journal with a smile at the thought of learning such a game. Of course it seemed quite dangerous and perhaps even awfully silly, but the appeal of soaring across the sky was far too appealing to pass up.
Salazar, you have to get here soon. And then we'll have to show Wyn and Godric, she thought, picking up a handful of snow and letting it melt between her fingers.
She was curious as to how else the wizarding school has changed, and was starting to grow impatient. She worried about the elves, wondering if the descendants of the first elves she had introduced had continued to live in the castle. She wondered if there were more paintings. She wondered if Godric's Sorting Hat was still used by the students. She wondered where Lavinia was. She wondered if her cup was still in the castle, and whether it was still in use. There were so many mysteries that could be solved shortly.

A great deal lately had been bothersome to Salazar and truth was, as time went on it only became much worse. His beloved was missing, his possessions, priceless to him were missing and above all else, he was no longer within a world that made any sense to him. He Salazar Slytherin was now on the level of ‘commoners’ and ‘peasants’ and Salazar was anything but a commoner. In fact he was rather angry at the whole situation as it was presented to him. Even the female the other night he had spoken to had thought to have audacity enough to given him a choice. Salazar respected three women, Lavinia, Helga and Rowena, and that was it. All others were merely wenches to him.

However, he had more important and hopefully more spirit lifting plans for that day. So he dressed in his best which had to be cleaned from his home and pulled his best cloak around his shoulders before he apparated himself from where he stood in the castle of his family to Hogsmeade where they’d made the original plan. Of course as he looked around he was amazed at the changes that had occurred since they had arrived there to him only a few years before and now it seemed over a thousand years ago. None of this to him made any sense, but what he did know what that he needed something to clear his mind of all the questions and that in mind, he headed up toward the castle to find Helga, surely she would help offer something else to think on.

Granted once he reached the gates of Hogwarts and walked inside his mind took a turn. This castle, he had only seen days ago when he’d left for a trip home after introducing Lavinia to everyone. He remembered walking through these arches with her. His heart sank at the idea however he continued on until he was walking the grounds to look around them and find Helga. He couldn’t believe that even here, after all this time this place still stood and from what he saw, had students occupying the classrooms as they had hoped for their own time. “Helga!” He called as he approached the lake seeing her there. The smile upon his features wide in spite of everything, being with his friend and able to see their work alive, it was well worth the distraction.

“Can you believe it? Did you ever imagine that it would ever grow to be even today?” He asked as he paused finally next to where she was.

Despite some of the initial oddness, Helga was adapting quite well to the demands of the new age. It was silly and confusing at times, but it seemed to be good--in her mind at least. Through the department in the Ministry, she had been able to locate a home she and her descendants have occupied for sometime. But much to her dismay, she hadn't much of a memory as to who they were. She just remembered hearing a voice that made her heart leap upon walking into the doorway. And then the voice disappeared to be replaced by a reality. Or a candy store, more rather. The couple that owned the store had let her stay in a room above the store while they occupied another. They were pleased since they had one of the most esteemed witches in the history of magic under their roof (and were planning on making a new type of fudge in her honour). And Helga just wanted to see if she could recover anything from her past there.
She stood in robes lent to her by the generous couple. They were nothing like the robes she had just cleaned and left to sit on her bed. Her new robes weren't embroidered, nor did they have fabrics with vibrant colours. Instead they reminded her of her childhood and the simplicity required of St. Clement's. Black, thick, and unremarkable. Much like what she noticed of other witches and wizards of the day.
It was then she heard someone walking up to her. She turned to look at Salazar, noting that he was well-dressed, perhaps for the occasion of their return to Hogwarts. Of course, her mind never really did settle upon that thought for very long, as she was thrilled that he was there.
"I never would've thought, Salazar," she replied with a bright smile. She was glad to look over and see that Salazar was indeed smiling since she wondered at how well he'd adjust to this world. Perhaps it was since he seemed eternally preoccupied by the absence of Lavinia, which was most definitely easy for her to understand. She was a lovely woman, who had a personality that suited Salazar far better than anyone who had graced the planet. "And I'm glad that you've come to see it once more."

“Last I remember we’d just brought everything we could to start it. We were a month off. I never saw it with students.” Salazar said his eyes moving around them once more as he looked at it all. It had been his dream to see this place in working order and it was all he could do to contain himself with the idea of seeing his common room where students were actually able to live that was if he could think of a password though it was simple enough yes? The wall would know his voice as he’d charmed it wouldn’t it?

“You’ll forgive me if I’m late, unfortunately the state of the castle is not—quite what I remember.” He said offhandedly. He had at least a home to got to unlike what he had seen from Rowena whose home was not even rubble for her to rebuild from. Still a part of him was off at the idea that he’d have just left things to go to shambles. He loved that place more than anything, not as Hogwarts, but that would perhaps explain things if he’d grown fond of them here and left it there. Though from what the girl he’d met the other night said, he hadn’t even stayed within Hogwarts.

“Shall we head inside and see if things are as we left them? Maybe even visit our Common Rooms and see if it’s been changed?” He asked offering her his arm as was only proper of a gentlemen such as himself to do for a lady such as herself. After all Salazar’s family did insist that he was brought up with only the most noble of manners which included the deep respect it was owed for a woman who he thought his equal and while no one was really Salazar’s equal, she was close as any could get to him.

Maybe being inside those walls once more would give more of a sense of belonging for him since at present he felt little comfort in this time. “We can even visit these elves of yours if it pleases you Helga.”

"Oh, I do remember those days," Helga said. "How would you describe that moment--the one you last remembered?" She would have to say that she personally remembered feeling most accomplished and glad when she returned from wherever they came from.
"Of course I will forgive you," she spoke warmly, watching his face for his expressions. "I haven't been home yet. Or as far as I know. I've lived in what some of the archivists at the Ministry have told me was the home of my line. One that I had built close to Hogwarts." She couldn't even really remember what her husband looked or sounded like. He seemed to have appeared later in her life. "I can assure you that was odd."
Upon the offer, Helga held onto Salazar's arm. "Of course, although I did like the paintings I've chosen for my Common Room," she said. "And the kitchens," she paused for a moment before continuing. "I'd hope no one had replaced the tables. It took so long to craft into the right shape." She stopped, grinning at Salazar. "Oh this is silly," she said, knowing that there would be at least some change. "I'm only worried about the elves. Not many are as merciful to the poor creatures as they should be." Her strides matched Slytherin as they walked towards the castle.
