woke like a tree full of bees
Who: Brody/open... sorta :P
Where: Percy's flat
When: Saturday evening

Brody's sleep schedule was pretty messed up. That was, apparently, what happened when you lived with vampires; they didn't rise until the sun rose, and he didn't have a lot to do during the day. He'd gone about looking for a job, but without an identity, without parents, without proof that he belonged here so he wouldn't get his ass deported... well, it was turning out to be a lot harder than it sounded. And the last thing he wanted was to resort to turning tricks again. Way too dangerous, and disgusting to boot.

Maybe he should turn himself in. Get thrown in foster care. What was the worst that could possibly happen...?

Oh, but he knew the answer to that.

The devil you know.

So he stayed, and allowed his sleeping patterns to get completely effed. It was 7 in the evening and he was just now waking up, stirring from under his blanket on the couch and mumbling feverishly to himself in his sleep. (Something about kittens and paint.) When he woke he did so all at once, his eyes suddenly opening and sitting up abruptly like he'd been awake the whole time, but if THAT were true he probably would have paid more attention to how he tossed his head so his hair wouldn't end up sticking up in clumps in every direction, falling in front of his face.

He made a noise and lay back down.

Percy walked through the room with a curious look on his face. Mauri had gone to his own home and hadn't been seen since, and it seemed to bother Percy more than he'd let on.

Coming out of the room, Percy had an empty gin bottle in one hand, and the other held an empty glass. Frowning he tilted his head to the side, though, spying the young boy that was still sleeping on his couch...

"Have you eaten?" He asked suddenly, reaching out to tug the blankets off the child a little as he looked down. There was, really, no true look of concern in his eyes. But then again, this was also the first time since bringing the boy home to Alex, Percy had acknowledged the child's presence.

He blinked, sleepily, then again in surprise as he looked around as if to make sure he wasn't talking to anyone else. He wasn't sure Percy had ever spoken to him since that first night. But there wasn't anyone else here and Brody had no idea where Alex was. He sat up, rubbing sleep out of his eyes.

"Um... no."

Percy frowned at that, tilting his head to the side as he inspected the boy. Eating was an important part of the human lifestyle. Running a hand through his hair as he considered things.

"You should eat," he announced finally, painfully aware that there was no human food in the flat. Carefully he pulled out a few notes from his pocket and dropped them on Brody's chest. "Go buy some food."

He blinked as he dropped the bills on him, sitting up further so they tumbled into his lap. "Oh, um..." So that was kind of weird. "Okay. Thank you." Then he peered at him, trying to make it look like he wasn't peering at him. Was he drunk or something?

Being drunk certainly would have explained it, wouldn't it have? But the fact that Percy was stone sober (despite the empty bottle in had) left no clue as to what had come over him. Perhaps some angel had possessed him...

Though, not likely.

"You're welcome," he commented dryly before moving on, hunting out a new bottle of gin, and frowning as deep as ever.

He looked down at the money, then shrugged, folded it and shoved it in his back pocket. He folded the blanket he slept under into a neat square and put it on the edge of the couch, finger-combed his hair into order and looked around for his shoes. He was apparently a very neat kid.

"...Are you okay?" Because, you know. Big frown!

"Why shouldn't I be?" Percy asked, looking back at the boy oddly.

Why was the kid still here, anyway? He frowned, before grabbing the new bottle and walking back toward the kid. "What's your name?" He couldn't remember if he'd ever asked before.

"You look like someone just died," he said, then paused, and looked down at himself, his all-black clothing and black nails. He made a face. "Uh. Not that I'm throwin' no stones or nothin'."

He looked up then, and blinked. "Brody."

He raised a brow as he sat down in a chair and looked at the boy. "Like someone just died," that was ironic. Considering he was medically dead. Heh. "Well that just can't be had, now can it? I'll have to nip right off to the store and buy all new clothing now."

He'd perfected sarcasm in his life.

"Brody...and why are you still here, Brody?"

He rolled his eyes a little, "Well I didn't mean it like that." Oh really? Well.

He frowned. "...You said I could stay," he said, sounding accusing. Like, you said it! You can't take it back! NO TAKE-BACKSIES!

"Oh, you didn't? Care to explain?" He raised a brow, his head tilted to the side just so as he looked at the boy carefully.

"So I did, but I find the living are usually uncomfortable with the dead." He paused a moment, "though perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised."

"Nooooo," he mumbled in that shifty eyes-on-the-floor, I-didn't-do-anything-wrong, you-can't-prove-anything way that teenaged boys are always capable of. There was no sass here, no sir.

He shrugged. "Daniel was dead." There was a long pause after that. He hadn't talked about Daniel at all. Hadn't explained what he was doing with someone like that in the middle of the night but the now-faded bite marks on his neck kind of said it all, really.
