Dexter & Irei: A Ghost's Plea
Who: Dexter Castel and Irei Arakaki
When: Early morning February 12
Where: Sascha and Irei's bungalow
What: The ghost goes to see the necromancer to plead for help.

The bastard had taken her away. Dexter had stood in the floor and tried to hold back the sense of fear that enveloped him. Dante would kill Dione. He would, there was nothing that could possibly stop him. Certainly not Dexter himself. He was just a ghost, incorporeal, incapable. He'd let her down.

Maybe he hadn't yet. Going after Dione wouldn't do any good at this point. Wherever the pair was going, he couldn't do anything there. He had to find someone who could do something. Only one person came to mind.

Irei, he remarked to himself. Dexter walked out of the bungalow he shared with his sister and started down the path to the bungalow he knew the necromancer shared with Sascha. The bungalow was dark, he'd expected that. It was far too late for most people to be awake. Yet it didn't bother his sight, he wasn't seeing much anyway. If ghosts could cry he was doing exactly that.

IREI! Though Dexter rarely found it necessary to yell at anyone, he was yelling now. The panic he had done so well to keep a lid on was coming out in spades. I need your help.

Irei had been laying in bed toying with an unlit cigarette. He had gottten Sascha to show him how to roll his own so that when his supply of pre-rolled cigarettes were gone, he would be able to do the same as Sascha does. That is when his friend wasn't mooching off of him. He shrugged to himself and closed his eyes. Once they were gone, then he could just mooch off of Sascha for a change.

He sat up when he heard someone shout his name. Not really heard, so much as felt. His first thought was Sascha? But he shook his head in the negative. Sascha felt different in his head, besides which, his friend would probably still be asleep. He was incredibly difficult to wake up in the morning, and Irei wondered sometimes if his friend had ever been able to make it to his first classes of the day before his students back when they lived in New York.

Irei got out of bed, wearing nothing but a pair of boxers. While it was still chilled outside, he was unable to bring himself to wear much more to bed. If he had been really cold he could have just climbed into his friend's bed and stolen some warmth for himself.

"Dexter?" He looked at the spirit that had come into his room. "Where is Dione? What's wrong?" He could feel the panic rolling off of him like waves threatening to crush anything in their wake. A ghost experiencing any kind of extreme emotion was a dangerous thing, Irei had found in his own experience. He slid the onyx bracelet from his wrist and into his hand. The bracelet helped him to focus his power, and he was a firm believer in the power of stones.

Dexter normally looked like he did in the moments immediately around his death, throat cut, shirt bloody, eyes covering with the gray film of death. Now he looked more like a real ghost, less real. A suggestion of a face and eyes under hair that was brown/black.

He took her. The panic was there, swirling, crushing against everything around him. Dexter didn't know how much Irei knew about Dione and her personal affairs, his sister was so tight lipped it was hard to know who she told what to if he wasn't there with her and lately they had been together every hour of every day.

Up until Dione deciding to go follow that bastard out into the dark. He took her. His ability to be articulate was fading into sobs. I need your help.

Irei could feel it. The oppressive nature of his emotion pushed at the walls of his room. Irei's room was just too small to contain something like that. He was surprised objects weren't flying across the room because of the spirits hyper ability to influence the space around him.

"Dexter, you need to calm down." Irei spoke softly and calmly to encourage the upset spirit to relax his emotions. "Who took who? Do you mean Dione? Who took her?"

Irei hadn't pried into Dione's life. He had tried halfheartedly to get her to trust him, but that had sort of backfired on him. While he was around the dead for much of his time, giving comfort was not one of his strong suits. Unless it came via physical comfort, but he doubted Dione or Dexter would have been happy about that.

"Dexter, you are going to have relax so that you can explain it to me. Otherwise I can not help you, ne?" If worse came to worse, Irei could diffuse the situation and send Dexter on, but he felt a little reluctant to do so.

Over the past ten years, barring a few isolated incidents, Dione had been all Dexter had. It was not exactly a healthy situation on either side. Dione clung to him and he to her. Now with the awareness she might very well die, and he was helpless, Dexter reacted with what could be considered a typical fashion. He paniced.

Calming down felt impossible. If he still had a working heart, he'd be light headed almost fainting. Worry wrapped tight around his brain and he brought his hands to his face, pressing fists tight against lips and trying to make his whole form stop shivering.

There was a sound like him sucking in a deep breath followed by him counting to ten under his breath.

Dante took Dione. His voice was shaky, like he'd just been running a marathon or something similar.

Certainly the necromancer knew that the werewolf had been captured and locked up. Yet Dexter was discussing the man as if he were roaming free because he was. He was loose enough to come sneaking into the bungalow Dione lived in and coerce her into leaving.

Dante had taken Dione? Irei eyed the ghost and shook his head. Shit. Irei remembered that bastard, from when he had been still trying to protect Kaiya, the doomed little fae. He had been trying to act friendly toward her when Irei had been sitting next to her with his arm wrapped around her shoulder. Irei hadn't trusted him, but then he rarely trusted anyone or their intentions.

He took a breath and reached out toward the ghost. It didn't matter what he looked like, the spiritual form was hardly substantial. So his gesture was mostly symbolic. He hadn't realized it, but the force of the emotion had made Irei curl away from the ghost. Now he stood up straight, pushing back on the emotion as it seemed to fracture with the counting and breathing. He didn't like feeling or looking like he was weak. Not in these circumstances anyways.

Huh, do ghosts breathe? Irei thought absently and shrugged. It wasn't important.

"Alright. You need my help. I get it." He held out both his hands in a surrendering motion. He would help the panicked spirit. He had little choice really. If he didn't he doubted the boy would leave him peacefully, and he really didn't need two ghosts haunting him. "Where did Dante take her?"

He seemed like he might be heading toward town. Dexter hadn't seen much beyond that, overwhelmed with his own helplessness and fear to try to follow far. Now that his panic had started to subside, it was only the pain in him. He sat down, as near as a ghost could get to sitting in the middle of the floor, and started to cry.

Dexter was tired, as tired as a ghost could be, frustrated and afraid. His world was coming apart at the seams, everything he had clung to with every fiber of his dead being seemed to be slipping through his unfeeling hands.

I tried, he sang to himself. To go on like I never knew you. The words helped him to center his thinking even it was only a little bit. I'm awake, but my world is half asleep. It was a song from the radio he'd heard a thousand times it seemed, before the world ended. I pray for this heart to be unbroken, but without you all I'm going to be is incomplete.

It seemed Dione wasn't the only twin who retreated into music when the world seemed to become something horrible.

Don't shoot. The song is Incomplete by the Backstreet Boys.

Irei looked down at the spirit who had collapsed onto his floor and was currently becoming like his living sister. What use would a spirit who couldn't keep it together when things became critical be? "Quit it. How do you expect to help her if you crumpled up like a used napkin? Get up."

"Relax. I'll send a notice to the head council that I will join the search parties, but you need to go to her. You stay in this plane because of her, it should be easy for you to return to where ever she is." Dexter wasn't a type of ghost tied to a place, he seemed instead to be connected to his sister. She was quite literally his lifeline that kept his soul in existence. Irei theorized that he should be able to return to Dione fairly easily.

Irei felt like he could breathe again. The oppressive air that Dexter had entered his room with seemed to dissipate with the spirit's fit of hopelessness. Irei didn't know the song the young man's spirit was singing. To him the words sounded more like someone would sing to a lost lover. He shook his head. He wouldn't pretend to understand the siblings. He had been an only child.

"If you have time for sentiment, then you should return to her. I can call you back to me anytime and you can give me an idea of where they are. So you should be quick about finding her." He walked past the ghost toward his desk and started assembling things so it would be ready for when he would need to leave to search for the missing women and the werewolf who had kidnapped them. He would certainly be arming himself with some silver.

The twins had odd ways of working with the world. Dexter tended toward being demonstrative, showing his emotions openly and sometimes loudly. Dione collapsed inward, going silent and pushing others away.

They both took refuge in music when it came right down to it. Dione wouldn't have started to sing, maybe hum, but not sing...it would draw too much attention in her mind. Dexter couldn't keep the words in, so he sang, in order to keep from screaming. He wanted to rail. He wanted to be angry. He wanted to hurt someone, except that wasn't an option.

I can't lose her. Which could mean he felt he was losing his sister to Dante or that he was discussing the fact that finding her was hardly a problem for him. Dexter could find Dione anywhere. They were as close to being one person as two separate beings could be, especially those who shared two separate plans of existence. Irei walked past Dexter to his desk and Dexter faded out. It wasn't the way he normally traveled, the darkness of the place made him afraid, but it was more important that he return to Dione quickly.

He refused to let his fear slow him.
