OPEN to all of Elysium- PARTY TIME!
Who: OPEN TO ALL
When: Tuesday, October 23, 2007- Late evening
Where: The Tiki Hut and surrounding shoreline
What: Irei's first-ever birthday party!

Sascha had never been much of a party planner, so the fact that everything had gone off without a single hitch (even given the adverse weather conditions) seemed like a miracle in and of itself. Today was Irei's birthday, and since neither of them had ever had an actual party before, Sascha decided it was high time they made some changes to their usual birthday routine. They definitely had the resources for a large scale celebration here in Elysium, and that was exactly what Sascha was looking to give his best friend.

He'd had the presence of mind to post some flyers in strategic locations throughout Helicharis to let people know about the upcoming event, making sure to mention that no RSVPs or gifts were necessary (although they were always appreciated.) The weather had suddenly turned nasty less than a week before the party; fortunately for him, enough of the Tiki Hut and its adjoining dance floor was covered to ensure that no one in attendance would end up stranded in the rain.

The sun had already dipped below the sharp line of the horizon by the time Sascha and Irei made their way along the shoreline leading to the Tiki Hut. Irei wasn't privy to the exact details of the night's celebration, although he knew something was definitely up; Sascha rarely went out of his way to dress beyond comfortably shabby, and he sure as hell never did for the fun of it. It was one day out of the year when he could bear to make himself "presentable" by Irei's standards, though, and he'd had the tailor's help to outfit him in a flattering black and pinstripe ensemble with his hair pulled back into a tight little ponytail.

He pulled his cigarette away from his lips and grinned at his companion as the festivities came into view. It seemed he needn't have worried about the weather preventing people from seeing his flyers; the bar and dance floor areas were already at full capacity with a few familiar faces and many strangers, but everyone seemed to be having an entertaining time. A band had set up under one of the covered areas, and an extra canopy tent had been erected above the sandy overflow dance floor to shield the party-goers from the light mist outside. Sascha had even worked out an arrangement to have some food and employees from both the restaurant and cafe sent over to accomodate the sheer number of people present. Yes indeed, it looked like all of his work had paid off.

"Thought you could use a decent night out for once," he said with a smirk as he replaced the cigarette and motioned at the crowd of people. "Half of these bastards are just here for the alcohol, but I figured that's what you're usually here for, too." Sweeney had already begun to make friends with some of the servers in the buffet line, and Sascha gave Irei a firm pat on the back as he ushered him into the melee. "Happy birthday, by the way."

Irei, Sascha, Emily and Echo

Emily checked her reflection in the mirror one last time before she and Echo left their forest cottage to head towards the Tiki Hut for Irei's birthday party. It offered an open bar and was late in the evening, but Echo insisted that she attend to give Irei her birthday wishes. She also wanted to be the one to give Irei his present and Emily relented. If she kept an eye on her, everything would be fine. After all, it was a party and she had to loosen up a little bit for it, which is why she wore her white dress and a pair of white open-toe heels with her hair down and in slight curls past her shoulders. This was the first time that she would see Irei and Sascha since the revelation of them being together and she hoped she wasn't going to be awkward around them. She was pretty sure that she had nothing against them swinging the other way - she hated the thought of her being unconsciously biased.

Echo, as always, talked a blue storm as they walked the fair distance to the Tiki Hut. Excited wasn't the word for it. She was allowed to go to a party with alcohol and adults, and she was not going to waste the opportunity. "I am so going to wear the dance floor down. I'm not leaving it very often because there has to be loads of cute guys. You know I like Charlie and everything, but it's just dancing and they'll be too old for me anyway," she said with a laugh. "Oh my gosh! Do you think Warren will be there? He might not be the partying type, but I hope he is! I may have to dance with him." She tucked the present for Irei close to her stomach and grinned at her mom. "Do you think I can try a cocktail tonight? Pleeeease?"

Moral depravity indeed. Emily furrowed her brow for a couple of seconds. "I don't know if Warren will be there," she said, "and you may have a sip of mine. I still haven't forgotten your behavior at the festival, you know." She might have warned Echo a bit longer, but suddenly the Tiki Hut was in the distance and butterflies suddenly darted around in her stomach. The Plancks searched the crowd of people before they spotted the two men. Emily's smile was big as she walked up to Irei, saying "Hi! Happy birthday," and wrapping her arms around him to give him a warm hug. Sascha was given a small smile and she had to admit she liked the shirt.

Finally, Echo had the opportunity to give one of her famous cheerful greetings. She grinned and hugged Irei enthusiastically before turning to Sascha for a hug as well. "Happy, happy birthday!" she exclaimed. "I hope you've been well and had a really good day today. You look awesome." She giggled before handing Irei his present, a pocket knife with a carved design on the handle. "I hope you like your present. It's from both of us, but I requested the design." Her grin was large. "Just don't use it when you're drunk! And just so you know, I'd like a dance if you can fit me into your schedule."

Irei had been suspicious of Sascha dressed in such nice clothes. Since when had his friend even wanted to go with him to get a drink? He hadn’t even been all that sure he wanted to go out that night. It was his birthday, but normally he would stay at home with his friend and his friend’s mutt. The days of Sascha holding Irei’s hair back after he had had too much to drink were pretty much over. Irei couldn’t help but wonder about it.

He put his hands inside of his pockets as they came closer to the Tiki bar. Irei was wearing a cream turtle-neck sweater against the cold that was growing everyday in this place. He also wore a grey jacket over that . Irei didn’t like the cold. He looked as Sascha and smiled, despite the cold, because he certainly didn’t mind seeing his friend dressed in clothes that weren’t torn in places or worn out at the elbows or the knees.

For all of his observant nature, Irei had remained surprisingly oblivious to all of Sascha’s party planning. Other factors must have been distracting him. That or his friend knows him very well and knows how to keep Irei from becoming to suspicious. Even with all the fliers posted around the town, Irei hadn’t caught wind of it. Sascha must have found places Irei didn’t frequent much.

Irei heard music as they got closer to the bar. Not really a suspicious thing, but Sascha seemed like he was getting antsy. Irei looked back at the Tiki bar and blinked a few times as his friend spoke to him. Was this supposed to be a party? “Sascha,” Irei gave his friend a sidelong glance, “You planned this? For how long?” Irei couldn’t help himself and brought his hand up to cover his face as he laughed.

He walked in among the crowd and smiled as Emily and Echo approached him. He returned their hugs, albeit awkwardly. Echo held something in her hand and gave it to him. Irei inspected it, a gift. He opened it and pulled out what looked like an antique switch blade. He ran his fingers over the metal design. It was cool to the touch. He wondered how long it would be before Sascha tried to take it from him.

“Emily-chan, Echo-chan...This is beautiful. Domo arigatou gozaimasu. Thank you very much.” Both of the ladies looked absolutely stunning that night and he smiled. “Ah, of course you may have a dance Echo-chan. It was very nice of you to come to my...birthday party.” Irei had never had a birthday party before, not that he remembered anyways.

"Probably not as long as you're thinking, but it did take a little effort. I think I almost broke a sweat once or twice." Sascha couldn't keep the smile off his face at the sound of Irei's pleased laughter. That was why he'd done all of this, to hear that laugh and know that, at least for a little while, the normally melancholy necromancer was genuinely happy.

They were both well received by the more familiar faces in the crowd, and when Emily and Echo approached them with their (respectively) reserved and energetic greetings, it really seemed as though everything was destined to run smoothly. Well, alright- maybe Emily had only been reserved with him, although he couldn't imagine why that might be the case; maybe she still felt a little awkward after their gratuitous last encounter? They hadn't really seen much of one another in the interim, and Sascha tried to shrug off the concern as pure paranoia on his part. It was a fucking party, after all.

The marvelously intricate engraving on the handle of the knife caught Sascha's eye, and he watched Irei run his fingers over the design a little enviously. He wasn't exactly sure what was so appealing about a decorated piece of (sharpened) metal, but over the past decade or so he'd discovered an inexplicable appreciation for blades. As it was, he'd accumulated seven or eight different pocket knives in his collection; there was always one on his person at any given time, mostly out of necessity- much like the ingredients for his hand-rolled cigarettes, or his lighter, or his gum. Ohhh yes, he'd definitely be playing with that blade sometime soon.

"You two have got great taste," he complimented with a smile, briefly raking his eyes over Emily's dress and loosely tumbling curls before refocusing his attention on Irei and Echo. "And there's still plenty of partying to be had tonight for everyone. Especially you." He gave Irei a teasing poke in the side. "You've got twenty-seven years' worth of it to make up for, right?"

Echo grinned at Irei's positive response and especially the acceptance of her request to dance. "You're very welcome," she said and couldn't contain her excitement about dancing. "I've hardly ever danced with a guy before! You know, either they're too shy or they can't dance. Mom tells me that my dad always danced with her when they were going out and I'm glad he's in good company." She dropped the grin and looked at the men with a sudden mature expression. "You definitely need to have a good time. Both of you. You deserve it." With that, she reached out to take one hand of theirs each and squeeze it briefly before her hands fell to her side.

Emily gave Irei a smile and remained silent for now, letting her daughter talk because it was easier that way. She adored her friends, but parties were never her forte. She easily became a wallflower and right now she had no idea what to say. "I'm glad you like it," Emily said after a few moments and caught Sascha's gaze on her. It flustered her, and she quickly looked back at Echo, who was continuing to chat.

"So do you have cake?" Echo wanted to know. "It's so not a birthday without cake and other sweet things to stuff your face with." She grinned and failed to look innocent. They should have brought something along, but perhaps their company was good enough. "Isn't that right, Sascha? Well, I always like frosting the best. Or you could have cocktails instead, I guess, if you want something sweet."

"I think it is a little odd to say that my first birthday party happened to be on my twenty seventh birthday." Irei smiled at the poking jab from his friend. He wasn't sure exactly what he was supposed to do at a party like this. He had only been a guest to one, Emily's birthday party, and certainly had never been the person being honored. He really hoped he wouldn't have to make a speech or something awkward like that. Maybe he should just employ a strategy of becoming to drunk to remember most of the night.

Echo's delight was infectious, even for the normally somber necromancer. He wasn't quite as skilled at charming children like Sascha, but Echo and Zosimus had seemed to like him well enough. "Ah, well then lucky you. Sascha taught me how to dance a while back ago, so you don't have to worry about me stepping on your feet."

Irei didn't know what to think of Echo's father. He hadn't met the man, but he was not sure he could be so quickly forgiving as Echo and Emily seemed to be. His father walked away from him as well, but his parents had been married, and divorce was practically unheard of at the time in Japan.

He smiled at Emily. "Of course I love it. It is the first present anyone, other than Sascha, has given me." He took the knife and placed it in his back pocket for safe keeping, not that that would really keep it safe from Sascha, but it was relatively safe from everyone else.

"Hmm, a cake? I am not sure. Knowing Sascha, I am sure there is something sweet to eat around here. What is your favorite kind of cake Echo-chan?"

Echo was asking about cocktails. What was it with girls and the fruity drinks? Aveira, the female vampire he had met in this very place not so long ago, had been the first woman he had met in Elysium who didn't seem particularly fond of the sweet alcoholic concoctions. Maybe he could find her a virgin frozen margarita or something. You could hardly taste any alcohol in those kinds of drinks anyways.

Sascha was touched at the look of genuine concern on Echo's face as she encouraged him and Irei to have fun, and he listened with a sort of quiet satisfaction as she chattered happily along at his roommate. Echo was definitely a people-person, and although Irei would be the first to deny it, the necromancer seemed to have a knack for inadvertantly drawing in admirers as well.

"Not too hot on cocktails myself, but as far as cake goes..." He winked playfully at Echo. "You'll just have to wait and see." Sascha knew that Irei usually had little regard for sweet things, but this was a birthday party, damnit, and what good would a birthday party be without a birthday cake? Of course, that was a surprise for later in the evening. In the meanwhile, he'd have to make sure everyone partied down accordingly- and possibly restrain Irei from draining all the liquor in the Tiki Hut before the night was through. Oh yes, he knew the thoughts churning behind his friend's ice blue eyes without needing to resort to mind-reading.

The cheery little blonde seemed intent on claiming Irei for a dance, and Sascha took that as his cue to play up his role as host. "No time like the present to put on your dancing shoes, isn't that right, Miss Echo? The music's loud, and neither one of you has a partner yet." He watched Emily out of the corner of his eye as he gestured at Echo and Irei to move closer so they could have a proper dance. "As for me, I think I'll just grab some drinks for all of us so you two can cool down once you're finished. Help me carry, Miss Emily?" He caught the woman's eye then and smiled, knowing her courteous nature wouldn't allow her to turn down his offer.

Sascha moved away from the pair with a wave, looking back expectantly at Emily and waiting for her to catch up to him as he left the dance floor and headed for one of the refreshment tables. "That dress is really something," he said as they approached one of the large punch bowls and waited for the server to dole out the drink into separate cups. "Although it's hard for you to look any prettier than you naturally do." He'd tried to avoid the gratuitous flirting, he really had, especially given the discussion during their last encounter; there was just something about Emily that practically begged for it, though, and he was always happy to oblige.

He didn't want to make her uncomfortable, of course, so he bit his tongue at the next flirtatious remark that threatened to escape and grinned amiably, passing a couple of the drinks from the server over to Emily to hold. "I'm glad you could make it. He's never had a real party before, so it really means something to have the people he cares about here to celebrate with him...y'know, along with the complete strangers." Sascha easily palmed two of the cups in one hand and reached down to settle the other against the small of Emily's back as he steered her just off the edge of the dance floor to wait for the others to join them again.

Echo was happy that Irei agreed to dance with her and smiled at him, before thinking of an answer to his question. (It didn't take very long.) "Chocolate, of course! With plenty of chocolate frosting," she said. "But I can't wait until the cake!" Any kind of cake was fine with her as long as she could get a piece. She grinned and rested her hand on Irei's elbow to lead the way to an empty space on the dance floor after Sascha's comment, with a little wave to him and her mother. It was not long before she started to dance, twisting her hips a little and grinning all the while.

Nodding at Sascha's question, Emily followed him to the refreshment table. She didn't quite know what to say as the awkwardness she felt remained. It seemed wrong for him to make comments about her when he was seeing someone and so was she. "Thank you," she said quietly and took a couple of cups, waiting for him to receive the others. It was difficult to return the smile and so she was not able to manage it. Turning the topic to Irei was much easier for her and her mood lifted. "Of course. We wouldn't have missed it for the world. After all, you two are our - my closest friends here."

She increased her pace when he touched her back, moving to an open space in the dance floor to wait with the two cups in her hand. It was a little rude to have done that and she bit her lip for a moment. Maybe drinking some of the punch might help her and she downed a quarter of her cup, looking at the people around her to occupy her thoughts. So far, so good... but if he were to confront her about her strange behavior, she had to tell him what she knew. Yes, that was the right thing to do.

Sascha blinked in confusion when Emily pulled away from his hand and then proceeded to ignore him while she threw back her punch. Hm, so he hadn't been imagining all the strange tension hanging in the air between them. His companion seemed perfectly content to distract herself with people-watching, but Sascha wasn't about to let her off the hook so easily.

"Miss Emily," he began slowly, tilting his head slightly to one side as he tried to catch her attention, "is everything alright? You're awfully quiet tonight." He paused a moment before venturing, "Did I do something wrong?" Sascha honestly had no idea what might have put the woman at such unease around him when she seemed perfectly fine in Irei's presence, but it just wouldn't do to have this kind of awkwardness in the midst of a celebration.

Irei felt himself cringe on the inside. Chocolate with chocolate frosting! The thought of it just made his teeth want to rot in his head, but he really hadn’t expected anything else from Echo. She could probably burn off the excess sugar very quickly knowing her hyper activities. “Well, I do not think it will have much chocolate in the cake. Hopefully none. Too much sweets tend to make me sick.” Sascha knew about the tragic death of Irei’s sweet tooth. Irei believed it must have been defective since he was born.

Irei excused himself and went over to the bar and ordered the teenager a virgin strawberry daiquiri. He didn’t think Emily would really want her daughter drinking something with alcohol, and even though he had been drinking from a fairly young age, he wanted to respect Emily’s wishes. He also got himself a mixed whiskey drink before returning and handing Echo the frozen strawberry drink. In Irei’s opinion the alcohol is so weak in frozen drinks that it is impossible to taste anyways. Maybe Echo wouldn’t notice.

Taking a sip of his drink Irei noticed that Emily and Sascha had moved away and over to the dance floor. Emily looked a little distraught and Irei furrowed his brow wondering what was wrong. “I’ll be right back Miss Echo and then we can have our dance, ne?” He gave the girl a smile and walked over toward his friends to see what was wrong.

Technically he had done nothing wrong for her to treat him like this, but the potentional information she learned changed things - at least for her. She felt somewhat guilty as he asked what was the problem. She owed him a truthful answer if nothing else to see his reaction. Emily frowned, embarrassed, and played with a strand of hair. "Is it true that you and Irei are really together?" she asked. "Because I don't think it's fair on Irei if you flirt with me. And... I don't know, it's strange for me... " Their friendship had a strange start, as they had breached the boundaries of being platonic that one night.

She liked him, maybe in a way she wasn't supposed to, and it hurt that he had not been honest with her. It was important for partners to be faithful to one another and she wanted to ensure both her friends were happy. "So, please --" Emily had no idea what she wanted to say. She was incoherent and that was never a good sign. Biting her lip for a moment, she realized she was being unfair to him and slid her arms around his waist to give him a hug. "I'm sorry." Her mouth brushed against his cheek and then she stood back from him to cross her arms over her stomach. "I don't want to feel awkward around you. You mean a lot to me, you know."

Oh, holy crap, he'd picked a bad time to take a drink. There had been such a long pause after he'd asked Emily his initial question that he'd taken the opportunity to gulp down a few mouthfuls of punch, since his throat had been dry and fairly parched from all the talking he'd done tying up loose ends for the party. Then she'd opened her mouth, and the words that tumbled out caught him completely and utterly by surprise. If it was a reaction that Emily wanted to see, she was sure as hell about to get one.

His first response would have been to chuckle very loudly at the notion of him and Irei "together," but seeing as his mouth was currently full of liquid, that idea didn't go over too well. Sascha snorted reflexively in amusement, but the action caused some of the punch to go down the wrong way; within seconds he was sputtering and coughing, and he nearly sprayed a few unsuspecting party guests with regurgitated punch. He was so taken aback at the suggestion that once he had managed to even his breathing out again, he didn't bother with his customary courtesy titles.

"Emily, where the hell did you hear that?" he asked as he wiped his mouth with his sleeve. There was no sharp or accusing edge to his tone- in fact, he sounded more as though he were on the brink of uproarious laughter. He accepted the hug and kiss with an affectionate rub of her shoulders, and he pulled her further away from the edge of the dance floor and out of hearing range of the other guests. "Is that what all this is about? You think there's something between me and Irei?"

Dear God, if only the necromancer could hear them now, he'd probably piss his pants laughing...or maybe that was just Sascha's inclination. It was difficult to keep a straight face as he spoke, but Emily seemed very serious about the issue, so he tried to address her concern with as little smirking as possible. "I won't lie to you, Emily. We've slept together on a number of occasions, and I'm pretty sure that's not gonna stop anytime soon. Neither of us ever mentioned that detail to you precisely because we didn't want things to be awkward between us. You mean a lot to the both of us, too, y'know...we didn't want to lose that. We still don't."

Sascha reached out to brush his fingers against her hand reassuringly. "Believe me when I say there are absolutely no romantic feelings between me and Irei. I know we're a lot closer than most friends tend to be, but that's really all we are. Friends."

Emily blinked. She had no idea why what she said was so funny, but perhaps it was like that with a friend who didn't seem at all like one's type. Him laughing only made her feel worse as she waited for him to stop - at least he wasn't choking, and that soothed the slight worry that had popped up in her mind. To be honest, secretly she did not want Sascha to be with Irei and that was her wicked, selfish side of her talking. Both of them deserved every happiness in the world, and she was with someone, so she needed to stop being ridiculous.

Now she had to recall her unpleasant conversation with that woman in order to explain. With a sigh, Emily began to explain. "A little while back, I had a horrible conversation with Lucinda who said it. It wasn't the main part of our conversation, though - she was positive that you had come onto her teenage son. I didn't think you were the type of person to do that and I told her that, but she didn't believe me. And then she said quite a few hurtful things to me. Is that true, or has she got that wrong as well?"

She was sure that Sascha had always and would continue to be honest with her and she was glad to hear that he told her the truth now. Relief rushed over her, and it was somewhat nice that he was insistent there was nothing between them. "Okay. Look, if you decided to get together in the future, I'd be more than happy for you. It was just - I don't like someone telling me horrible things about a man I love because they don't know him well enough to make those accusations." Emily didn't want there to be awkwardness to be between them, or any reason for her to turn against two of her first friends in Elysium. She was a woman who attached very quickly and sincerely to people, but she usually did not get herself into trouble that way.

Sascha didn't immediately recognize the name as Emily spoke of her encounter with the woman, but her identity became all too clear once mention had been made of the teenage son. Ohhh boy, this didn't sound good; in fact, it sounded like he had one pissed-off mother hot on his heels. A brief shot of fear seized up in his chest as he wondered whether or not the woman had already voiced her concerns to her son- to Zach. He hadn't seen the young man since that incident in the library a month or so ago...

"Lucinda...Kitano?" he ventured a little unsurely, schooling his face into a neutral expression. No sense in worrying Emily any further, especially if there was actually a bit of truth to the accusation- not that he intended to let her know that, of course. "Can't say I've ever talked to her before, but I do know her son, Zach. I've helped him out on a few occasions, and his father works at the library, too, so I see him around every once in awhile..." Yes, it was probably a good idea not to mention his initial bouts of stalking, or the (literal) handful of hard-ons the younger man had once elicited in him.

The truth of the matter here, though, (and in this case truth was used very liberally) was that Sascha hadn't ever directly come onto Zach, so at least he could answer Emily's question sincerely. "No, I haven't come onto her son, but it definitely sounds like we need to sort a few things out. She approached you about this?" He wasn't quite sure what to think about that, although he could feel a sudden anger beginning to stir deep in his belly. What right did this woman have to say something hurtful and upsetting to Emily when he was the one she needed to confront? That was completely uncalled for, and once he crossed paths with this Lucinda, he intended to let her know it.

"I'm sorry you were involved, Emily, that never should have happened. I'll take care of it." Sascha couldn't help the wave of affection that washed over him as he looked at her then, and he gently pulled her into another half-hug. She'd defended him because she thought of him as a genuinely decent person, and although part of him felt ashamed to have let her down, another part felt thrilled that she held him in such high esteem. He really didn't deserve her. "Thanks for standin' up for me, though. Glad to know I've got a few real friends here."

The conversation changed direction as she moved back to the topic of him and Irei, and the idea once again brought a grin to Sascha's face. One of the phrases she used fleetingly caught his attention- a man I love- and his brow furrowed lightly. She must have been speaking affectionately or in a figurative sense, surely that was all. Wasn't she the one constantly reminding him that she felt uncomfortable with his flirting because she was already in a relationship? Yes, that had to explain it.

"I think I'm flattered," he said cheerily, relieved to see that the tension between them had practically melted away over the course of their discussion. As it was, he felt totally at ease returning her affectionate sentiments without a trace of flirtation. "And I love you, too, daisy darlin'. Don't ever be afraid to ask me if you need something." He could see Irei approaching them from the corner of his eye, and he waited for the man of the hour to join them before continuing with the conversation.

Irei had been close enough to hear Emily's words about him and Sascha being a couple. It had stopped him in his tracks for a second. One would think that going out to bars nearly every night for drinks and scouting for potential partners would quell any rumors of an intimate relationship between himself and his roommate. Irei would do absolutely anything for Sascha, but he had thought that both of them were fairly discrete about their personal business and home interaction.

He shook it off and continued on his way over to his friends, making sure to get a good measure of the alcohol down his throat before tackling this. He walked up as they were hugging. Sascha seemed to do a good job of reassuring Emily that what Lucinda said was unfounded and pure speculation on her part and possibly her husband's. Irei hadn't even seen Zach since the night he had stayed in their bungalow because the kid was to drunk to walk. That had kind of reminded Irei of himself at that age.

“Ah, Emily-chan, Sascha is not teasing you, right? I could beat him up for you if you wish.” He could pretend like he hadn’t heard any of their conversation for Emily’s sake. Most of Irei’s reactions with Emily were a way of protecting her from his own thoughts and actions. He would play a sort of watered down version of himself around her as he did with most people. He didn’t want her to know what he and Sascha did, how much he drank, the reasons why it was hard to sleep at night. Sascha was the only one allowed to see Irei breakdown, because Irei trusted him enough to pick up the pieces afterward. For the practiced fake smile would have to be enough for Emily.

He gave Sascha a side long glance as the corners of his lips turned upward. “So did you get me a cake? Echo-chan has been asking what kind of cake I have, but I have little taste for sweet things.” He said the last part of that sentence for Emily’s benefit. He would continue to eat cookies that she brought him, but anything really decadent might make him sick.

“So what have you two been talking about? Me behind my back?”

"Yes." Emily gazed at him as she answered his question. So Sascha did know him; that hadn't been a lie. She did not want to jump to conclusions, but her heart pounded a little faster as she waited for him to continue. The answer was negative and she exhaled a small sigh of relief. He'd fix things with Lucinda and with any luck, Emily would never have to meet her again. "Oh, no she was asking around who knew you and when I said I did, we talked and there you have it. She was really worried and said hurtful things. I hope you can make things right."

She returned the small hug. "No worries." The talk had left her uncomfortable, but now that she knew it was unfounded accusations, Emily relaxed much more now. "And any time." She'd defend any of her friends and while Sascha was flirtatious, she knew he was a good person and meant well. That was all that mattered. "I'm your friend through thick and thin. As they say." Emily tried to be the kind of friend that people wanted and hoped that they would return the affection in kind.

He was the first man outside her family to say that and she smiled at him, happy that they were good friends. "I will." She heard Irei's voice and turned to look at the man. "Oh, don't worry, he isn't." She wanted to help the two of them so much and would have supported them through whatever problem came their way if they asked for her assistance. Emily wanted them to ask because she held both in such high regard. The conversation then turned to cake and she looked somewhat embarrassed. "I did make you a cake... A chocolate bundt cake. I'll show you."

She led the two men over to a table where she had put the cake, which was on a plate and covered. Emily removed the cover to reveal the bundt cake and hoped it wasn't too sweet for him. It was far too easy to spoil people with cake, but she had been determined to make something elegant enough for him. "It's dark chocolate and not overly sweet... I could be wrong." She was being modest as always, mostly from nerves. "Would you like to try a piece?" Irei was the birthday man, after all, and fully entitled to enjoy it. Emily found a small knife and cut a piece to give to Irei, slicing another one and handing it to Sascha.

"We weren't talking about anything important." She didn't want her friend to worry. "I hope you're having a good time so far."

Cara-Jane spotted one of the flyers in Helicharis the day before and a wicked grin spread across her face. So, it was Mr. Irei's birthday. There was no way in hell she was going to miss this. The next day, a couple hours before it was slated to begin, she searched through her wardrobe to find a good outfit and performed her beauty ritual. She was now scented, smooth and dressed and made sure her sister Caitlin was ready as well. The girl needed to get out more and this was the perfect excuse, in her opinion.

The two walked and made small talk on the way there and when they finally reached the Tiki Hut, Cara-Jane separated from her sister for a moment to find the birthday man. There he was! She grinned and sashayed over to him in a way so that he couldn't possibly miss her. "Hello there, you heartbreaker," she said teasingly and held out the shiny bag containing his present to him. "Happy birthday." She leaned forward to kiss him on the cheek, keeping it brief. "I hope you put this to good use, even if I can't benefit from it."

She turned to look at Sascha with a grin. "And hello. You're certainly fine armcandy for the birthday studmuffin. How're you doing?" she added before focusing her attention back on Irei. "Now are you going to let me make everyone jealous by dancing with you or should I dance with Sascha? Believe me, it's not an offer you want to turn down so think carefully." Her voice was teasing as she gestured toward herself when she said the last sentence. She was all about teasing him, because it was just too fun not to do so, and she thought he needed to loosen up more.

Irei watched as the vixen made her way toward him. Irei arched a brow and kept his eye on her. Yes, he saw Cara-Jane and knew very well that she was making it hard for anyone not to notice her. There were quite a number of beautiful women, some he hadn’t met yet, but most weren’t trying to catch everyone’s attention as the young Australian woman obviously was. He finished off the drink he had gotten and took a deep breath to steel himself for a visit from the pretty, young, temptress.

“Hello Cara-Jane. I’m glad you could come.” Irei felt her greeting with a kiss seemed a little inappropriate, because he wasn’t drunk enough yet for it to not be. Irei took the bag and looked inside it. He blinked a few times and pulled out the boxers and read out loud what they said in the big black print on the white background. “‘Im to sexy for this boxer...’Well, that is not very modest, ne? Does this mean you think I am too sexy for boxers?”

He smiled at her. “Of course I would love to dance with you. And since apparently it is my night, I believe I should get the first dance, not Sascha.” He grinned at Sascha and reached out to take Cara-Jane’s hand. “I don’t think Sascha will argue with me on this.”

Sascha had been in the process of chatting up one said beautiful party guest (who just happened to be sporting a terribly low-cut top and a generous amount of cleavage) when he heard the familiar voice, and he turned just in time to see Cara-Jane drop a kiss on Irei's cheek. A-ha, now this would surely prove to be an interesting development. Sascha easily recalled his first encounter with the flirtatious young woman at the beach some time ago, as well as the fact that she obviously had designs on his roommate. Not that this was a surprising thing.

He smoothly excused himself from the other conversation and folded his arms against his chest as Irei examined the new present, and he bit his lip to keep from snorting in laughter. Oh, this was rich. "Already know my opinion on that topic," he said with a wink and a devious twist of his lips. "As for me, well...I suppose I'm gettin' by alright, thanks for asking. Aside from the fact that Casanova here keeps stealing the attention of all the prettiest guests." That's right, milk it for all it was worth.

Sascha held up his hands defensively as though to emphasize Irei's point about the dancing arrangements. "Dancing, what? Don't mind me, I'm not even here." As he watched the two depart for a slightly less claustrophobic area of the dancefloor, he was suddenly accosted by the strange sensation that someone was watching him, and he glanced out of his peripheral vision to find the source. There was a dark-haired woman standing near the edge of the crowd whose gaze seemed to constantly shift between him and the apparent strangers surrounding her, and it only took a moment for recognition to hit before he was approaching her with as dashing a smile as he'd ever given.

"I've said it before, and I'll say it again: pretty ladies should never be left all alone." Sascha gracefully caught her hand and dropped a light kiss to the back of it in greeting. "Looks like your sister's commandeered my roommate, Miss Caitlin. Have you found a partner yet, because my dance card's open at the moment."

Hearing that Irei was glad for her company despite the way things had occured that one night in the bar was a relief and her grin shone happily at him. So far, so good. Cara-Jane laughed at Irei's reaction to her present, expecting something similar to this. Yeah, he definitely needed to throw away that reserved exterior because there was a definite fun party boy underneath - and she was more than wanting to expose it. She had no qualms about corrupting the male sex! "No, it isn't, but that's the point of a gag gift, sweetie," she said. "And damn right, you're too sexy for boxers otherwise I wouldn't have been as willing to take them off of you that night." Her behavior had been a bit much, but she had no shame in mentioning it again.

Sascha's comment about her present was intriguing and hot, if she jumped to the right conclusion. She gave Sascha an approving, mischevious smile. "Glad to hear that you agree with me. I'm afraid that he's going to continue to steal all the lovely ladies tonight. Right of the birthday man."

Cara-Jane grinned again and waved a little to Sascha as she and Irei found an open space in the dance floor. "I have been wanting to see your moves, you know," she said to Irei, "as well as offer a sampling of my own." It was time to dance. Probably as no surprise to him, her dancing started just as flirtily as her behavior, complete with enticing swaying of her hips and hands trailing over his shoulders down to his chest. He certainly deserved all the attention she could give. Cara-Jane took a step closer so that there was little space between their bodies and danced, not caring if the song wasn't exactly the right beat. Having fun was more important anyway.

Sascha's sudden appearance startled Caitlin and she blinked a couple of times before she mustered a reply. There were so many other women for him to talk to and she had no idea why he picked her out of the crowd. "Oh, I'm the self-proclaimed chaperone," she said hastily with a blush at the compliment. It was no surprise Cara-Jane already laid claim on Irei's attention for now. "She's certainly having a good time." A glance at her sister dancing confirmed that. And now Sascha asked her to dance? Maybe Cara was right in dragging her along. "I have no plans." She smiled at him and tucked hair behind her ear.

Sascha chuckled as Caitlin brushed the hair behind her ear, and he tugged at the hand still gripped lightly in his own, urging her onto the dance floor with him. "I'll bet you can chaperone just fine from here, can't you?" he said with a wink as he glanced over to the pair dancing just a few yards away. Not that he really expected Caitlin to pull any of her sister's moves, of course; she seemed much too reserved for that kind of bump 'n grind technique, anyway.

"It's been a while, hasn't it?" he said as he pulled her hand up to rest on his shoulder and started up some simple footwork. "What's been keeping you busy? You should stop by the library when you have the chance...sometimes it can get pretty boring, so distractions are always welcome." Just to add a little spice to the routine, Sascha suddenly dropped her back into a shallow dip, grinning mischievously all the while.

They weren't too far away from her sister, but Caitlin thought she was better off being distracted by a nice man. Once they settled into the dance position, she followed his footsteps as best she could. She barely had enough confidence to look him in the eye as they moved although she managed to glance at him when he asked what had occupied her days. "I spend most of my time with Cara-Jane and my sisters sewing clothes - a few of them want to start a fashionable clothing shop. I know there's the tailor's, but they hear it is run by men," she said.

The dip was unexpected and she blushed slightly when she rose from it. If he wanted her to visit him at the library for some distraction, then she might have to do that. "I might visit," said Caitlin with a small smile. "I'm afraid my life isn't that interesting. I may not be able to provide you with exciting conversation... except maybe fill you in on the crazy antics of my brother. He started to build a catapault not too long ago." Actually, Caden and Sascha might get along, now that she thought about it.

"A clothing shop, you say? That should be an interesting little endeavor. Did you make that dress?" Sascha made a gentle motion to twirl her beneath his arm so that the swishy hem of her skirts flared out. "Looks stunning on you, really. I'll bet more of the outfits in Elysium could use a woman's touch." Oh, the places he could have gone with that remark. Instead, he just smiled mischievously and said, "Let me know once you've got everything set up, and I'll stop by to get a few measurements taken."

Sascha shook his head amusedly at the rosy color filling her cheeks, and he carried on dancing in hopes of eventually distracting her from embarrassment. "Everybody's got something interesting about them, Miss Caitlin. It's probably just so normal to you that it seems boring. That catapault idea sounds pretty interesting to me."

The tempo of the music had slowed considerably as they talked, and Sascha took advantage of the fact by dropping his hand to the small of her back and pressing her closer against him. Her head was practically pillowed on his shoulder now, and he slowed his own steps to a light swaying movement. "Comfy?" he murmured with a grin.

Caitlin hoped that her sisters would be able to get it underway because a few of them had the talent in order to make it possible. She gave him a small smile. "No, my sisters Catherine and Claire made this one for me. They thought I needed something to emphasize my figure," she said, enjoying the sensation of being twirled. "And who knows, they'll no doubt work in insidious ways. You might discover one day that all the clothing around you is made by a McCall or two. So yes, I will let you know." It was good to hear that she had a potential customer, well, her sisters anyway.

"He does these sort of things all the time. There was one idea that did intrigue me, though - " Caitlin's eyes glittered with excitement. "A dance floor - or even a house - floating in the sky. Or propped up in the air somehow. Wouldn't that be wonderful?" She grinned. "I'd love to be able to work with magic or some sort of architect to be able to build something like that. Imagine the views!" She blinked as he edged her closer to him and wondered why he wanted to be closer to her. Her ease suddenly vanished, and she tensed. Oh dear. What did she have to lose?

She slid her arms around his waist and settled on his shoulder. "Very.comfortable. So is this the way you charm all the girls?" Caitlin separated from him a little and looked away from his face. "Even if it is, I'm not sure I mind. I'm a sucker for attention." Her hand slid up his arm. "It's not every day I get special treatment from such a nice man."

A dance floor in the sky? "That sounds a little surreal," he returned with a chuckle, glad to see that she felt enough at ease to speak with him so freely. Something she'd said about magic had caught his ear, and he watched her interestedly. "Is there anything else you do, Miss Caitlin? Any...special abilities?"

Sascha could feel the exact moment when her body suddenly went rigid beneath his hands, and he wondered if he'd taken things a bit too far (as he had a habit of doing...occasionally.) An apology wavered on the tip of his tongue, but before he could speak the words aloud, she'd already nestled herself against him with a resolute expression on her face. He could only smile at her next question, and he leaned closer to her ear even as she looked away from him.

"All the girls and the boys," he murmured cheekily as he eyed her roving hand. "But I've got to say, I'm a little surprised to hear that. It just seems logical to me...special treatment for a special lady."

Caitlin smiled. "You haven't had countless conversations with my brother. A dance floor up in the air is nothing compared to some of his ideas," she answered. Unfortunately, she wasn't magical, though she had thought what it would be like for her to have any powers. "I'm just an ordinary person. I think having a clairvoyant for a brother protected all of us from the virus." She trailed off then, a contemplative expression sliding over her face. "Are you able to do something incredible?" Curious minds wanted to know and it wouldn't be surprising if he could do something impressive.

She was the opposite of her sister when it came to men and all nerves with him. Maybe, if she was lucky, it was not too obvious for him to see how flustered he made her. So it seemed that he gave his love to both sexes, and that probably suited him just fine. "I'm sure you found a few people who have appreciated it and no doubt your many other talents." See? She could flirt with the rest of them. The song ended and she stepped back, giving him a small smile. "You probably want to go around with hosting duties elsewhere... I don't want to waste any more of your time."

"Incredible? Well now, I suppose that's all a matter of opinion, isn't it?" Sascha playfully tapped her chin with his finger as the music came to an end and she pulled away from him. "Let's just say that I've got a talent for knowing what's on people's minds." He then tapped his own temple for emphasis. "That goes double for dogs."

He chuckled a little at her self-deprecating remark, reaching out to smooth a few long strands of hair behind her ear. "Believe me, Miss Caitlin, it was no waste. You're right, though. I should probably get back to playing host. I'll be keeping an eye on you...don't be too naughty." “Ah well, you will have to forgive me. I have never received gifts from friends before. Certainly not ‘gag’ ones.” Irei took her hand and pulled her out toward the dance floor leaving Sascha alone with the older sister Caitlin. He looked over his shoulder to see them interact. Sascha always seemed to be fairly good with those who were particularly shy, and Caitlin certainly seemed to be a shy one when around Sascha.

Irei looked back at Cara-Jane and smiled at her again. “I hope you are enjoying yourself. This was all a surprise to me. In fact I was surprised that Sascha was able to keep this a secret from me at all.” He watched her dance and his eyes followed her fluid form. It had been a while since he danced with a woman.

Irei closed more of the gap between them placing his hands on her hips as they shimmied and leaned forward to whisper in her ear, “When is your next birthday, that way I know when to return the favor and can give you some cheeky underwear.” Irei was very aware of the pressure from his fingers as they dug gently into Cara-Jane’s curves. It felt like he might lose the battle with his sensibilities to keep his hands off the young woman.

Hearing that he had never received gifts from friends until now made her want to give him more to remember this evening by, though this evening was sure to be memorable enough as it was. "I can forgive you. Other people had better give you gifts too, or else I will take it upon myself to make it up for them." She smiled at him as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth and it was obvious her mind was steadily traveling to the gutter. So he'd rejected her once... who could blame a girl for trying again? As for Caitlin and Sascha, she had no idea how that'll go. It took work to bring her sister out of her sister and a handsome man would not help matters.

"You kidding? Of course I'm enjoying myself," she said. "Parties can be even better as a surprise." His eyes on her were hard to ignore and she may have used that to her advantage a couple of times afterwards, adding a hand running down her body and a thrust of her hips in his direction. Irei's reintroduction to dancing with a woman was going to be a pleasant one, she was determined about that. His hands on her hips were welcome and so was his question. Well, well, she didn't know he had it in him. Her dancing slowed, but did not stop as she replied. "June first, handsome. Unfortunately, it's so far away. There's always Christmas, if you celebrate it."

Her hands slid up his chest and then she was dancing again, the space between them significantly reduced. She always went for the men she liked full throttle - if that unnerved them, so be it, but they seemed to like confident women. Cara-Jane had certainly the special brand of McCall confidence. "You know you missed me," she teased. "Looks to me like you haven't had anyone give you a special dance in a while." If his mind went to the thought of a lap dance, her mind was already there.

Irei shrugged. “I guess other people will give me gifts as well. Emily Planck and her daughter Echo gave me a very nice gift.” Irei smirked a little. “If you want to reach in my back pocket you could get a look at it.”

That night he had first met Cara-Jane had been rather strange for him. It was certainly a first that a brother had approached him for his sister for anything other than threatening him because of how he had broken up with the girl and hurt her. He had had no idea how to react to the situation and he had also been worried about what people would say about him, but he was growing less and less concerned about what the people in this place thought about at all. He could always ask Sascha if he cared.

“Yes, Christmas is much closer than June. I will have to get you something then. Your brother will not mind if a man buys you lingerie though, ne?” Her brother didn’t seem to really care what his sister did because she certainly seemed promiscuous to Irei. He couldn’t be blind to that, could he? The way she danced reminded him of the peacocks he had met in the clubs back in New York. Irei pulled her close and wrapped his arm around her waist as they danced. She wasn’t the only enticing one on the dance floor.

“You are very hard to forget I will admit that.” He smiled slightly at her. The way Cara-Jane looked at men made them feel like she was the one undressing them with her eyes. That was a little unnerving for some men. Irei came from a culture that was very male dominated and finding out going confident women of Cara-Jane’s caliber was something of a rarity. At least for him that was the case. Most of the Japanese girls he had ever met were good girls.

Cara-Jane smiled. "Of course they'll give you gifts, silly muffin. It is your birthday party after all. But I'll be happy to give you more than one present." She figured the not-so-subtle statement meant that he wanted it and she was happy to oblige. Leaning somewhat to the side, she reached into his back pocket slowly and found the knife that was there, admiring the design. "Ooh, nice!" The present went back in his pocket and she draped her arms around his neck. "I can see you wielding it and protecting the damsels in distress. Who is this Emily Planck, hmm? Has she stolen your heart while I wasn't looking?" It was possible that someone did given the length of time between her seeing him.

Caden was not protective as older brothers often were, nor did he try to make fun of her.. much. "Christmas presents sound good." She laughed a little at his question about her brother. "No and even if he did, he wouldn't say anything to me. But a question comes to mind: if you give me lingerie, does that mean you want to see me in it?" A mischevious smile spread across her lips. "That's what it seems like to me." Even if he didn't, it was still a good gift... and one could never have too much sexy underwear.

She'd better be too hard to forget. "I know." Most of the time, Cara-Jane certainly did undress men with her eyes and that made things more fun. It was wrong of her to steal his attention for the whole evening and when the song playing drew to a close, she gave him a smile. "And thank you for the dance."

Mitsuko and OPEN (and hopefully the birthday boy and host at some point)

Mitsuko was very excited about attending Irei's birthday party. There were few people she felt close to in Elysium and the strange young man who seemed to have trouble getting close to people was one of them. While the attraction between them was no doubt a part of it, she felt a kinship with him. Despite the problems their sexual tension brought at times, she wasn't about to lose her friendship with him. Of course, she wasn't about to stop flirting with him either.

Mitsuko had spent a long time getting ready for the party. She picked one of her favourite dresses. A silken black and white number, which showed off her legs, breasts and shoulders. She was certain the effort would be appreciated by Irei and the host of the party, Sascha.

She had also spent quite a bit of time finding a present for Irei. While she indeed thought of him as a dear friend, he was also quite the enigma. She wasn't exactly certain what he would like as a present. But knowing his fondness for alcohol, she decided to go with a bottle of sake. It seemed fitting, as they had first met over a cup of sake. She'd taken time and care securing the present. With some queries (and just a bit of flirting), she'd managed to find a bottle of Junmai Daiginjo, an extremely high quality sake. It had cost her an emerald bracelet (and a kiss on the cheek to the man who had the bottle), but it was worth it. She adored Irei and it was no doubt a rarity in Elysium for such a good bottle of sake.

When Mitsuko arrived at the Tiki Hut, she felt a flutter of nerves. It felt a bit strange to be going to the birthday of the man she'd kissed on "Loki's turf". But certainly Loki would understand Mitsuko wanting to celebrate the birthday of her friend.

She looked around the crowd, hoping to see Irei or Sascha.

Mitsuko, Sascha and Irei (eventually)
[info]bohemiarhapsody

By this point in the night, Sascha was beginning to feel a little fatigued. He'd left Irei to his own devices some time ago to mingle and schmooze with some of the other party-goers, and although the strategy had earned him plenty of dance partners and new acquaintances, it had also drained much of his remaining energy. Staying out all night partying was a workout in itself, but a couple weeks' worth of planning PLUS a full day's work at the library PLUS an all-night dancefest had him about ready to drop. He hoped Irei was faring better, wherever he was out there.

Sascha was presently lounging in one of the chairs at a table in the dining area, puffing gratefully away at a cigarette some luscious lady guest had offered him since his outfit for the night was too slim-fitting to hold any of his usual rolling supplies. He'd pulled his hair free of the confining ponytail in exasperation (most of it had worked its way into his face while he was dancing, anyway) and was debating whether or not he might actually want a drink from the bar when his eye caught a dark flash of loose material from some woman's dress.

His eyes followed the flowing lines of fabric along her long, slender legs and up to her temptingly bared shoulders, which were accented by the constant caresses of her dark fall of hair. Sascha took a moment to simply enjoy the view, aware that he probably had a very satisfied smirk on his face, when she turned in his direction and he finally saw her face- one that he recognized, at that. He took another drag and exhaled slowly before pushing himself to his feet and approaching her.

"Looking for the birthday boy?" he ventured with a grin, holding the cigarette away from her with one hand in case the smell might offend her acute canine senses. "He's around here somewhere...probably the bar. He'll be glad to see you, though." The sly tone of his voice was enough to imply that he was more than happy to see her as well, although he couldn't resist adding, "That's some dress. If you were aiming for a showstopper, I'd say you hit the mark."

Mitsuko glanced over her shoulder at the sound of the luscious voice. She smiled winsomely at the sight of Sascha. She didn't know him as well as she did Irei, but he was very hot and quite fun to be around. She licked her lips teasingly and leaned over to Sascha. She plucked the cigarette from his fingers and took a drag. "Of course," she said with a smile. "Got to give him his birthday spankings." She arched a brow as she gave Sascha back his cigarette, before curling a lock of his errant hair around her finger. "Or is that your job today, Sascha-kun?"

Mitsuko giggled at the compliment over her dress. She gave a playful wiggle of her hips. "Well, I wasn't sure my present was good enough, so I thought I should Irei some eye candy too." She ran her finger down her plunging neckline, towards her breasts. "But I wouldn't mind you getting a sugar rush too." Okay, so it was a cheesy flirtation, but she thought Sascha might appreciate it.

Sascha's eyes were riveted to the plush, pink fullness of the woman's lips as she exhaled the smoke from his cigarette before returning the stick to him. It was no wonder his roommate had ended up in an overnight holding cell after defending her; she was absolutely gorgeous and every bit the calculating temptress he'd expected her to be, and he was far from immune, even if he knew better.

"Mmm, it's Mitsuko-san, isn't it?*" he managed smoothly, a hint of a smirk mischievously curling the corners of his mouth. "Spankings are always part of my jurisdiction...but you're more than welcome to watch." Sascha practically purred as she twined his hair around her finger, and he leaned slightly into the gesture to let the kitsune girl know her efforts were appreciated. He had a bit of a hair fetish, after all, and he never passed up a chance at any kind of contact with a pretty lady. His dark locks had always been one of his main draws- aside from his eyes, of course.

Sascha's eyes openly traced the line of Mitsuko's fingers down her decolletage, lingering just at the low neckline for several moments before catching her own gaze once again. She really was a dangerous one, wasn't she? Of course, she was really only being coy with him, Sascha knew this. What she didn't know, however, was that Sascha could be equally dangerous when it came to flirtation; and he rarely ever backed down. "How very thoughtful of you," he said as he reached out to brush a few long, silky strands of hair behind her shoulder, his voice slipping into the deeper, honeyed pitch he usually reserved for serious flirtation. "How did you know I had a sweet tooth?"

Mitsuko could feel Sascha's eyes on her mouth as the smoke curled from her mouth. She couldn't resist the opportunity and lasciviously licked her lips. "Arigatou..." She purred in gratitude for the drag of his cigarette. She playfully stretched, causing her back to arch and making her breasts appear larger in her low-cut dress.

"Oooh..." Mitsuko wrinkled her nose. "Very tempting offer, Sascha-kun. I'm sure that would be quite the sight to see. I'm a big believer in..." She arched a brow. "Tough love." She let her fingers slide through Sascha's dark locks as she unwrapped it from her finger. It was very soft, quite lovely. She wouldn't mind playing with it more, if it wouldn't give the entirely wrong impression... If it really was all that wrong.

She smiled sweetly as Sascha's eyes followed her. She did love to be ogled and Sascha was an expert in ogling. She let out another purr as Sascha brushed her hair away from her face. She was like a cat that was being pet. "You're not really all that hard to read, Sascha-kun..." She teased. She batted her eyelashes and looked up at him. "I think everyone in Elysium knows you enjoy the... Sweeter things in life." She licked her lips once again. "After all, you and Irei together has to be the sweetest set-up in town. I can just imagine.... And frequently do."

Tough love, she said? It wasn't hard to imagine what sort of scintillating ideas were in that pretty little head of hers, and Sascha eagerly drank in the lines of her figure with his eyes as she presented herself to him. That little minx was going to get herself into real trouble if she kept up the seductress act, although Sascha was fairly sure that every last bit of it was completely intentional.

After living with Irei for nearly three years, Sascha had come to learn a few things about terribly attractive people- namely that if they knew they were terribly attractive, they generally expected other people to notice (and acknowledge) the fact as well. Everyone had one or two personal vanities they couldn't help but dwell on, at least occasionally; Sascha, for instance, had his hair, and Irei had...well, Irei had quite a few things. It was no secret that a healthy dose of narcicissm ran through the necromancer's veins, and Sascha couldn't help but wonder just how much the alluring kitsune woman had in common with his roommate.

"Am I that transparent? Maybe I need to work on heightening my mystique." Sascha let the final few strands of her hair wisp gently between his fingertips, and he smirked at the purr of pleasure rumbling past her lips- oh yes, he'd done that. Her next remark gave him a bit of pause, and he cocked his head playfully. There were those words again, just like he'd heard from Emily only a few hours earlier- him, Irei, together. Had someone sent out a memo or something? Sure, he was flirtatious and suggestive with most people he met, and he and Irei did live together, but...had they been that obvious about the extra dimension of their relationship?

"Oh my...is our secret out?" he half-teased, clasping her fingers in his own and brushing his lips fleetingly over the back of her hand in delayed greeting. Sounds to me like someone's mind has gotten stuck in the gutter. I like that.

Mitsuko honestly had no clue Irei and Sascha were anything other than friends. She had just been teasing, but she could completely understand how the pair would fall into bed with each other, regardless of gender. Such attractive people could only be around each other for so long before giving each other a go at least once. If she were living with Irei or Sascha she's be slipping into bed with them as much as possible. Her seductress act was not really an act. It was just how she was. Maybe once it had been an act, but she had long ago accepted it as how it really was.

She was also quite aware of her attractiveness. In Mitsuko's mind, it was really the only thing she had going for her. She was beautiful and charming and a good lay. Her only true talents were getting men to fall into her trap. She didn't feel she was all too smart or talented. She enjoyed people telling her she was attractive because it was really the only thing she ever got complimented on.

"I dunno..." Mitsuko purred. "I think I like your... Transparency." Her lips curved in a teasing smile. She was greatly enjoying being around Sascha. She was sorry she hadn't been around him more. While she knew Irei well, she didn't really know Sascha. Maybe it was a bit safer that way. Sascha was someone who could very easily test her monogamy. His revelation that he and Irei were indeed more than friends definitely teased her.

Mitsuko let out a small groan as Sascha kissed her hand and her mind was filled with images of Sascha and Irei together. "I was actually just... Teasing. I had no idea... But now I do." She licked her lips. "Mmm... Actually, I have many ideas now." She gave a small jump and a squeak when Sascha's voice filled her head. My mind is never anywhere but.

Irei was standing over at the bar topping off his drink. If this is what birthday parties were, he’d have to make sure he went to more of them. He found he liked being the center of attention all of a sudden, even if he didn’t know half of the people who had come to enjoy themselves. Many of the guests were actually bringing him gifts too. Most of the gifts were things he’d never heard of and would probably never use, but a few of the presents were definitely gems. He certainly liked Emily and Echo’s gift. That little knife would come in handy, and he was curious about what Sascha’s gift would be after the party.

He took his drink and turned from the bar. He noticed Sascha and a certain kitsune girl talking to each other. Irei smiled. He hadn’t seen Mitsuko in a while. He walked over to his friends and kissed Mitsuko on the cheek. He figured she would like that, and plus, he was in a good mood. It also might remind her of a certain time before when the two of them had kissed. “Mitsu-chan, what a pleasure to see you here. You’re one of the few people I actually know at my party.” Irei wondered if her boyfriend had come with her, but he didn’t see that Loki guy anywhere. Irei wondered exactly how that man planed to get back at him. It must have just been a idle threat said that day of the grape squashing. That had also been the last time he had seen that pretty barmaid alive.

Irei shook his head. This was supposed to be a happy time. “Are you having a good time? Would you like a drink?” Irei didn’t bother speaking in English for Sascha’s sake. His friend was already pretty fluent in Japanese anyways. He would just pronounce things funny to piss Irei off.

As much as Mitsuko had been smiling with Sascha around, she absolutely beamed when Irei made his way over to them. It was not that she didn't like Sascha. It was just she knew Irei better. She, of course, wanted to know Irei better. It was a want than tugged at her and made her feel terribly guilty. He tested her resolve with monogamy, but she wasn't going to waiver. Giving into that temptation would not only ruin her relationship with Loki, but her friendship with Irei. If she were free, she bet they would be able to handle no strings sex... But when infidelity was thrown into the mix... That was a recipe for disaster on all accounts.

These were the thoughts that flared up in her mind at the feel of Irei's lips against her cheek. She could smell him acutely and it made her head swim just a little bit. "Tease," she murmured to him. Of course, she knew she was the one who was a tease. Irei had been more-than-willing to sleep with her and most likely still was. She was the one who was holding out. But she meant it as a joke, just a small verbal jab towards her attractive friend. She did mean it though. She and Loki were still being chaste and reminder of what she was missing was... Well, downright painful.

"Happy birthday," Mitsuko said, giving Irei a gentle kiss on the cheek back. Yes, she was just returning the tease, but it was Irei's birthday. She had to give him a proper sign of affection. "Well, if you don't know many people here, I'm sure by the end of the night, they'll all know you... And most will be dreaming of you tonight." She gave him a playful wink.

"I am having a wonderful time. Sascha is putting many ideas in my head... I'm sure you can just imagine." She looked between the two men. Her tongue darted out and wet her lips. "I certainly will. With great frequency. When I'm alone at night."

She was certain her description had placed on ideas in both Sascha and Irei's heads, which made her quite please. She held out the bottle to Irei. "I know alcohol gets us in trouble, but I couldn't resist. A good Japanese boy deserves a good bottle of sake for his birthday."

Damnitall, it was the mindspeaking that had done it. Sascha had been in and out of the festivities at the Tiki Hut that night because, at one point or another, all the inner thoughts and voices of the individuals present would start to gnaw away at his own yet-undisciplined mind. His training with Theora hadn't fully prepared him to deflect more than a handful of people's thought-voices simultaneously, and every twenty minutes or so he had to break away from the overwhelming mental roar of the party and find a semi-quiet place to meditate.

Sascha hadn't used his abilities that night up until his exchange with Mitsuko only moments prior, but the action had apparently been enough to open the floodgates of his mind. He winced and lifted a hand to massage one temple as the kitsune and birthday boy greeted one another. He knew they'd made a few remarks regarding him (or not), but with the harsh pounding in his ears and the sharp pain behind his eyes, he wasn't really able to follow the conversation.

"Glad you two found each other," he said as he gave Irei a sound pat on the shoulder. "I've...just gotta step out for some fresh air." Sascha made a strange sort of gesture at his head that he hoped his roommate could decipher before turning tail and heading away from the massive gathering of people. He hadn't exactly addressed Mitsuko and knew that his sudden departure might be construed as rude, but he couldn't help it; it already felt as though his head might explode at any moment. Probably not the ideal birthday gift.

“Thank you. I was not really expecting a party. I’m a little surprised Sascha was able to keep this a secret from me so well.” He smiled at Mitsuko, a grin that showed he knew he was a tease. She couldn’t blame him for teasing her a little bit. The woman herself was a walking tease. “Oh, do you think so? There are quite a few people here I wouldn’t mind having them dream about me, like you. He raised his eyebrows at her meaningfully.

“Ah, well, Sascha has always been the life of any party. He’s always able to attract attention toward himself.” Irei looked at Sascha an noticed the hand on his head. It looked like he had a painful headache. Irei knew his friend had been training with Miss Theora, and wondered if it had anything to do with it. He nodded as Sascha made his escape. He would be back eventually, but until then Irei would stick with the pretty kitsune, and he took Mitsuko’s arm in his.

Irei took the bottle of sake from her and looked at the label. He was actually surprised. He hadn’t seen this fine a bottle Japanese alcohol in a good while. “Thank you very much Mitsu-chan. You’ll have to come over sometime and share a cup with me. He smiled at her. “I promise it won’t be so much this time. You probably won’t end up kissing me afterward.” He pulled her into a hug and wrapped an arm around her waist. He couldn’t help teasing the fox girl. It was pretty easy and she was always good at come backs anyhow.

He had nearly laughed when she had called him a ‘good Japanese boy’. He looked at her and shook his head. “So I’m a good boy am I? What is so good about me?”

"I guess it was important to him that you got a nice surprise." Mitsuko smiled broadly at Irei. "Because you're important to him." She giggled a bit at his smile. Yes, they were both big teases and they enjoyed every minute of it. She wrinkled her nose cutely at Irei. "Good thing. Or else I'd have to feel very, very guilty about the dreams I've had already."

Mitsuko gave a nod. "Mm. I can see how Sascha could attract attention. Not that you do too badly yourself, Irei-kun." She smoothed down her hand. "Of course, I don't think I'm a slouch either." She frowned slightly when Sascha retreated. She didn't know much about his powers and hoped her mind hadn't caused him to retreat. But Irei didn't seem worried, taking her arm, so she wouldn't.

"Mm." Mitsuko nodded. It had been a job of work to get the bottle, but it was worth it. "You're very welcome, Irei-kun. And I would very much like to share some with you soon." She leaned in to him. "But I can't say I'm not disappointed by the other part... Even if it is self-imposed." She hugged him back.

Mitsuko let out a small laugh at Irei's question at her choice of works. "My definition of 'good' is notorious skewed, of course. It essentially boils down to who is fun to be around."

Irei shrugged his shoulders at her. "If you say so. I think he just wanted to prove to me that he could surprise me. Did you know that when I first met Sascha, he started stalking me. Very badly I might add." Irei had been giving Sascha a hard time about that for as long as the two have known each other.

He looked in the direction of Sascha's retreating form and smiled at Mitsuko. "It's nothing. Sometimes when he's around a very large crowd he gets headaches. But they are getting better I think."

"I guess your boyfriend didn't want to come? Maybe I can have drink with you and him some day." Irei grinned hoping she would catch his hidden meaning. When he had meet Loki, the other guy had seemed like he meant well. He wasn't too bad looking either.

Irei laughed quietly as she told him her definition of good. "It sounds very subjective Mitsu-chan. You must be the best person in Elysium under that definition."

Mitsuko let out a laugh. She shook her head. "You must be kidding me. Really? He stalked you...." She wrinkled her nose. "That's kind of creepy, you know."

"Mm." She nodded. "Good to know. I hope he feels better." She frowned slightly. She had been enjoying her talk with Sascha. While she would be amply entertained by Irei, she liked getting to know his roommate better.

Mitsuko sighed. She really wasn't sure how well things were going with Loki. "He's around somewhere." She turned to Irei, eyes widening slightly as she caught his meaning. "Perhaps I should have a drink with him alone first. It might take a while to get him thirsty enough for the pair of us."

She wrinkled her nose and grinned at Irei. "Well, I think that goes without saying, doesn't it, Irei-kun? Now come on! We've got to party hard."
