Thursday: September 13, 2007
Who: Theora and Mitsuko (with Loki and Nico possibly)
When: Early Afternoon
Where: Private room in Medical Pavilion
What: Checking in on the patient

Perhaps it was Elune's bidding that brought Theora to the medical pavilion the night before just as Mitsuko Kamiyama was brought in by a young man that Theora knew quite well. She recognized Loki and smiled at him only until she noticed the frantic look in his eyes and the unconscious fox in his arms. "A kitsune," Theora said immediately recognizing the energy signal from the weakened fox. "Quickly Loki, take her to an empty room."

Theora had spent the night tending to the poor white kitsune, watching over her form and periodically healing her until she awoke. The priestess was careful to not use too much of her power on the praeternatural knowing that a body oftentimes could not handle the energy that the priestess held. Small doses for smaller beings, as was the case here. The graceful Elven woman smiled down at the fox, her hands reaching out to stroke the soft white fur. "Wake up child..." she whispered close to Mitsuko's ear.

It was fortunate indeed that Theora was there when Mitsuko was brought in - not only for the priestess's healing abilities but also because Theora had been looking for Mitsuko as well. The Elven lady had heard of the theft of the Mir'en'Galad from the temple's priests, and they had also spoken the fox's name stating that she was the most likely suspect of the crime. Theora was not easily convinced and reserved her judgment much to the priests's dismay.

She sighed softly while watching Mitsuko's unmoving form. Theora did not believe in Mitsuko's guilt knowing whomever did take the artifact held great magic to break the Elven seal. And though the young kitsune held a reputation for being a rogue and a thief, Theora did not believe that she was to blame. And, if the priestess remembered correctly this young woman was the older sister of the half-kitsune they found on their first scouting mission. Surely the white fox would not have jeopardized her well-being or that of her brother's for the thrill that thievery brought. No, Theora did not sense that from the unconscious girl on the bed. The priestess did however have many things on her mind as of late, and she held the desire to speak of them with the young kitsune.

"It is time to awaken, young one..." Theora spoke once more, her voice holding an ethereal quality. The priestess's hand was pressed gently against the fox's neck and it glowed with the healing magic that would return the rest of Mitsuko's strength.

Mitsuko let out a small, weak chuff. The white fox was breathing deep, steadily. Both heartbeat and breath had grown stronger throughout the night, but she still showed no sign of waking for her slumber.

The young Kitsune felt light and warm under the priestess' care. She was not aware of her surroundings, but she somehow felt safe.

The fox disappeeared in the blink of an eye, replaced by the slender and pale young woman. While she was stirring now-- or else she would not be able to take human form-- she still not seem fully awake. Her eyes were shut and her head lolled, revealing the blood-stained bandage on her throat. "Loki," she murmured dreamily. "Gomen nasai,"

Her hand reached out and clutched at Theora's robes. "Loki...." She repeated. "Daisuki yo...." She let out a small whimper. "Dôshiyô.... Dôshiyô... Dôshiyô... Yappari.... Dôshiyô..."

Suddenly, Mitsuko's eyes snapped open. She looked up at Theora, disoriented. She was no longer in Loki's room. She looked around. Loki was... Nowhere to be seen.

She was faced with a woman instead. She had not met the woman. She knew who Theora was, but they had not been properly introduced. Mitsuko took a deep breath. "Ha-Hajimemashite," she whispered, a bit bashfully. She realized belated she was speaking Japanese as she tried to sit up. "What happened? Where's... Where's Loki?"

Japanese-English
Gomen Nasai= I'm very sorry
Daisuki yo=I love you
Dôshiyô=What shall I do?
Yappari=I knew it would happen
Hajimemashite=Nice to meet you

Theora smiled when the kitsune began to stir. She was awakening from her long night of slumber, something that her body desperately needed. Mitsuko's energies had been severely depleted to the point that Theora almost found it difficult to find an energy signal at all. But she had slept soundly through the night under the priestess's care.

And then right before her very eyes, the fox was replaced by a young woman. Her skin was still pale though Theora could see some color returning to it as the girl crawled to consciousness. She spoke Loki's name, and then muttered some phrases in Japanese. While it had been several hundred years since the Elven priestess had stepped foot in the 'Land of the Rising Sun' she still remembered the language very well. There was also something else that caught Theora's attention - the bloodied bandage that was still on Mitsuko's neck. While the fox continued her murmurs and clutched onto Theora's robes, the priestess reached out for the cotton and pulled at it gently.

"Puncture wounds?" Theora said quietly. They were healed from the priestess's magic throughout the night, but a very slight scar still remained. "Older wounds then..." she thought again knowing that scars were only left behind when she couldn't heal the injury in time. Her brow furrowed slightly only to be replaced by a smile when Mitsuko's eyes opened. Disorientation flickered in her eyes as she looked around the room. The poor thing didn't remember what had happened, and why would she? According to Loki she had passed out in an instant and so her memory would be somewhat askew.

"It is nice to meet you as well," Theora answered with a slight bow of her head. The girl tried to sit up but Theora placed a gentle, yet firm hand on her shoulder to guide her back down. "You are in the Medical Pavilion. Loki brought you here yesterday after you had passed out in his cottage. Both he and Nicolas are waiting outside, and they will only come in once you have regained enough strength."

Theora's words resonated with kindness as did the light in her eyes. She was worried for Mitsuko's health and she did not want the boys to rile up the young girl any more than she needed to be. They would have more than enough time later to catch up.

"I must apologize for not introducing myself sooner," she began to say with a smile. "I am Theora. It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Mitsuko Kamiyama."

Mitsuko's body felt rather heavy and clumsy. That was something she was not used to. Usually, she could do whatever she wanted. But at the moment, even keeping human form seemed to be a bit of a struggle. When Theora placed a hand on her to keep her in place, Mitsuko didn't struggle against it. Rather, she was relieved to not have to make her limbs work.

The vampire at the wine bar was not the first one who had bitten her in that particular spot. That had been where he had bitten her. Perhaps it was where her blood flowed best. Maybe there was some sort of subconscious territoriality to biting where another vampire marked her. But the marks left by the handsome Japanese man had just aggravated scars that were already there, faded somewhat over six years. It was good that they had chosen the same spot. The fewer scars Mitsuko had, the better.

"Yesterday," Mitsuko questioned, her voice heavy. Her eyelids fluttered as she got used to the light in the room. "We were fighting... I was trying to tell him... I want to be with him... I don't want Irei... I want Loki..." She was beginning to get lost in her own thoughts now, practically forgetting Theora was still there. "I need to make him understand that I love him and I can be in a relationship. But he was so upset..."

Mitsuko came back to herself as Theora spoke again. "Oh..." She blinked, before nodding slowly. "How long do I have to stay here?" She then considered what Theora had said. "Wait... Loki and Nico are here? Still? But... Yesterday...." She put a hand to her head. "They're so mad at me. Why would they wait?" She looked utterly confused as to why both boys would be concerned for her well-being. There was something almost child-like in the look, an oddity considering how the Kitsune had been forced to grow up so quickly.

Theora smiled gently at the disoriented kitsune. The girl was still very weak and her mind suffered as well, jumping from one topic to the next without realising that the priestess was still in the room with her. "Shhh," the Elven priestess said as she stroked Mitsuko's hair. "You should not worry about that right now," she said in regards to the fight the fox had with Loki. "There will be plenty of time to discuss the matter with Loki himself once you have fully recovered." Theora's hand was gently sending healing energies throughout the kitsune's body to help her recover quickly. Her strength would return to her soon, but it would not be enough to warrant release from the medical pavilion.

"As for the two young men," the priestess said with a smile. "Perhaps they are not so angry with you as to not be worried about your health. Loki and Nicolas know that a friend's well-being is more important than whatever negative feelings they have at the moment. They would not wish ill to those they care about for any reason at all." Theora hoped that Mitsuko would understand her words despite her confusion. The priestess was not aware of the troubles between the three people, but she was certain that no amount of anger would cause the young men to disregard the kitsune completely.

Theora relased her hand from Mitsuko's head and reached into one of the hidden pockets in her robe. Her nimble fingers reached around a small object and pulled it out of the material. "Perhaps you would feel better with your Hoshi no Tama returned." The Elven priestess knew of kitsune and the importance of their individual Hoshi no Tamas. Theora could only imagine how distraught the young woman must have been without hers around her neck. She unfastened the clasp of the necklace, with the precious jewel hanging from the center of the chain, and leaned over to place it around Mitsuko's neck.

"I must apologise that this was not returned to you sooner," she said as she adjusted the jewel to rest just below the hollow of Mitsuko's neck. "It is not our way to keep objects that belong to others, but the priests at the temple were of the mind that keeping it would force you to return the Mir'en'Galad." Theora shook her head and sighed. "I told them that would be impossible since you cannot return what you do not possess." A smile formed slowly upon her lips as she moved to sit on the edge of Mitsuko's bed. "Please forgive them for misjudging you, they were ruled by their fear at that time and fear can oftentimes cloud judgment. I must also apologise for the guard at Town Hall. I was informed that he was unnecessarily derogatory with you? If he was I must assure you that all elves are of the same mindset as he. He is a..." The priestess paused and looked upward thoughtfully. There was a modern day term that was used for those who were ill-mannered toward others but it escaped her at the moment. She kept thinking though and then tilted her head to the side.

"I believe the modern day term is 'jerk' but I cannot be sure. Is that what you would call him?"

Mitsuko turned her head slightly, snuggling her cheek against the pillow she rested on. While she was starting to feel better-- each touch of the priestess' hand to her forehead seemed to give her more strength-- she was still drowsy. "I missed him so much," Mitsuko said quietly. "I never wanted to hurt him. I love him." She sighed deeply. "I just want everything to be okay between us." Her heart was aching. She had seen the hurt and betrayal on his face. She had thought the truth would be the best. It just made things all the worse. "I just wanted him with me again. I thought it would make everything better... But... But..." She was too exhausted to continue on and listened quietly to Theora.

She considered what Theora was saying about Loki and Nico. She bit her lip. "No one has never..." Her eyes welled with tears. "He's a good man... But I hurt him." The tears began to slid down her cheeks. "How could I do this?" She had never felt this bad before. For years, she had done whatever she wanted, to hell with the consequences. She had never felt an ounce of guilt. Now, it seemed to be the only thing she could concentrate on.

Mitsuko's breath hitched as her hoshi no tama came into view. She reached a hand up, brushing the tears away from her cheek and she managed a small, relieved smile. It had felt like a part of her was missing with the necklace gone. She had kept reaching for it, wanting to feel it between her fingers. It seemed to glimmer ethereally in the light, a hint of its magical origins. She pushed back her hair to allow Theora to put it around her neck. She breathed a sigh of relief, feeling like a missng piece of herself was back. "Yokatta," Mitsuko whispered softly, clutching the necklace tightly.

She continued fiddling with the necklace now back in her proper place. "I thought it was evidence," Mitsuko said quietly. "I didn't think... It was...." Blackmail. That was the only word she could use for it. She laid back on the pillow once again. "You really believe I didn't take it?" She managed a small smile. Theora's assurance of her innocence seemed to sound better coming from her. When Dylan had said she hadn't done it, he had said she wasn't skilled enough.

"I was a good guess," she said quietly. "I could have done it. I've worked for years, honing my skills." She paused. "And I thought about it. I saw the thing at the temple. It was tempting..." She looked down. "It would have been fun to break the wards. To prove to everyone I could do it. But I didn't..." She shook her head. "If I'd taken it, I would have returned it the next day. Thrill would have been the only thing I got out of it. Wouldn't be any point in keeping the thing." She paused. "But I didn't. Things are different now. Can't go off planning big heists. Logan needs me. I can't afford to get into trouble."

She paused once again. "Yeah. He was a jerk. But... I guess I wasn't too nice. But.... He said I'd hide behind Logan. I'd never.... He..." She bit her lip. "I need to protect him."

She looked sad. "I know the reputation I have. And, for a long time, that's who I was... I lived up to my reputation. But I've changed. The entire world has changed. I'm not that person anymore. But I think people have a hard time believing that."

Theora looked down at Mitsuko with sympathetic eyes. She could feel the regret coming from the girl, lacing each word she spoke and streaming down her face in every tear. It pained the priestess to see another so distraught; if only her words had the power to heal the heart as her power could heal the body. But the wounds in one's heart could cut so much deeper than anything physical. "There are times when the best of intentions go awry, young one. You cannot let the past hinder you. You can only move forward and learn from the decisions you have made."

Her soft hand wrapped around Mitsuko's and she gave it a small squeeze. The girl was upset and had been through a lot of turmoil lately. Theora could understand how those stresses caused her body to become fatigued. She felt sorry for the fox and tried her best to reassure her that her innocence was indeed believed by all. "Your hoshi no tama was kept because they believed that it tied you with the theft. They wanted so badly to believe that you had done it and that was all they had to prove that belief." Theora brushed away some of Mitsuko's hair from her forehead and smiled. The poor girl seemed so fragile lying there that the priestess couldn't help but feel worried about her.

"I believe that you did not commit the crime and I do not need any other reason to back up that belief. You are a good person and you love your brother. You are no longer living for yourself, but for another now. That has the power to change a person. Your past holds no power on the person you have chosen to become, and that is what is important." Theora stroked Mitsuko's head like a loving mother and smiled. The poor girl had been discriminated against her entire life and now she had to face that here in Elysium. Theora had wanted there to be equality in the haven but it would seem that the stereotypes of the outside world still existed despite the destruction. With everything that had happened with the virus and the war, the priestess had hoped that people would put aside their differences for the greater good of humanity. The thought that they hadn't saddened the priestess though it did not show upon her features.

Mitsuko stayed silent for a long time and let Theora talk. The Elven Priestess' words and healing powers were a great comfort to her. She could feel her strength returning to her and her mind begin to become more eased. She kept a hand wrapped around her Hoshi no Tama, as if she were worried someone would take it from her once again. It was just a crystal, but to Mitsuko it meant... It meant the world. Yes, she could have asked Zach to make her a new one-- all Hoshi no Tama were alchemically created-- but it would not have been the same. Mitsuko had worn the iridescent, tear-drop shaped crystal since she was a kit, unable to take human form. It was her oldest and most treasured possession.

The way Theora talked gave Mitsuko a deep admiration for her. It was a shock, to say the least. Mitsuko knew Theora had a longstanding association with Midori. Mitsuko usually made it a habit to dislike anyone who got along all right with her mother. Yet it was impossible to think ill of Theora. She was wise and kind and unbiased.

"For nearly seven years, I've been a thief," Mitsuko said quietly. "And not just any thief. A really good one. Any time I got close to being caught, I was able to wiggle my way out of it." She paused for a moment. She had the idea several days ago, but had not yet acted. Originally, it had been to prove the elves wrong about her. Now, it was Theora's kindness that made her take the next step. "It seems to me your guys haven't really gotten anywhere finding who really took your Elvish Whosits. And I think that's because they don't know how thieves think. I do." She gave Theora a small smile. "I wanna help you find who really took the Mir'en'Galad. Give me the details you know about the break-in and I'll see what my thieving brain can figure out."

She winced a bit as she reached to her neck and scratched the bite mark. It was pretty much healed, but the flesh still felt tender.

Mitsuko's offer to help find the artifact brought a smile to Theora's face. The Elven priestess knew that the fox was a good person despite her rogueish past. But a person's past meant very little if the person in the present was completely different, and from what Theora could see Mitsuko was on the path toward changing her life for the better.

"Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated, Miss Kamiyama," Theora said in a gentle voice. "The priests at the temple have been ridden with much anxiety since the disappearance of the Mir'en'Galad. They were willing to grasp at any straws given to them, including your guilt. But I do not believe that you would have been so careless as to leave your Hoshi no Tama at the temple." Theora pulled a chair from the wall and sat upon it next to Mitsuko's bed. Her seemingly delicate hands folded in her lap and she leaned forward.

"All I know of the theft is that whomever took the artifact has great magic and skill when it comes to locks and wards. The wards put around the Mir'en'Galad were very powerful and I am quite certain that the thieve did not do it alone." Theora took a deep breath and continued. "The artifact is more than just a symbol used during times when the High Priestess has gone on a pilgrimage, it is also a very powerful magical item. It has the ability to increase the possessor's magical abilities by ten-fold. Perhaps that is more important that the symbolism itself for if the artifact were to fall in the wrong hands the result could be devastating."

Theora sat back in the chair and smiled at Mitsuko. "It is clear that whomever did take the Mir'en'Galad is still in Elysium. There is no where else they could go." She sighed and then watched the kitsune scratch at the sensitive area on her neck. "I do have one other question for you Miss Kamiyama. Was your encounter with the vampire consensual, or were you attacked?" She looked pointedly at the wound on her neck and smiled. Theora was never one to beat around the bush when she had a question. There was no point especially if she wanted answers, and seeing the newer wound on the fox's neck brought many questions to the forefront.

Mitsuko nodded slowly, taking in the information. She wanted to concentrate all her energies on discovering the identity of the thief. She had been accused and that made her as mad as hell. She wanted to find the person who really did it and drag them through town by their hair. She also wanted to help out Theora. She was nice and it was obvious it was distressing her. Mitsuko didn't care about the other Elves, but she did care about Theora.

"If I'd been thieving, yeah.... I wouldn't be that careless," Mitsuko said with a nod. "I was pretty offended they thought I'd get caught so easily. Maybe it wasn't the most honourable career choice... But I was good at it. I wouldn't do something so stupid." She looked down. "Now getting drunk and kissing a guy who's not my boyfriend... Yeah, I'd get careless in that case." She frowned deeply.

Going through her head, Mitsuko considered all of the species that might have the power to take the object and who might have a reason to take it. The list, thankfully, seemed to be pretty short. "I'll see what I can do, Theora-sama."

She bit her lip when Theora asked about the vampire bite. She hadn't wanted to report it to the authorities. She wanted to take care of the parasite herself. "I don't really remember," she lied expertly. "It's all sort of a blur. I just remember being really sleepy and this soothing voice and then...." She sighed. "I'm sorry. I can't really help. But it wasn't consentual. I wouldn't let a parasite suck on me."

Another smile graced the priestess's features as she stood to her feet. She leaned in to kiss Mitsuko on the forehead. "Please do not fret over the careless mistakes of the past. You must learn from those experiences and learn to steer away from such temptations in the future. If you truly care for Loki I believe that he is not so blind as to not see that, and that he is not so cold-hearted as to disregard it either. It is true that he may have been hurt by it and that you are hurt by the situation as well. But remember without pain then we cannot learn to appreciate the things that we already have. We do not realise worth until the moment it may leave us forever. Only then can we work harder to keep that which is precious near us."

Despite the straight faced lie Theora could sense the non-aggressive deceptive energy coming from Mitsuko. The priestess didn't think that the kitsune was lying to be hurtful, but rather because she might have been uncomfortable talking about it. Still she wished that Mitsuko would have at least told her more of the story. If there was a vampire running around Elysium biting people without their permission they could have a problem on their hands. Despite the kitsune's words Theora made a mental note to pay attention to any odd energies that might have been flowing throughout Elysium.

"If you do recall anything please do not hesitate to come tell me." Theora was respectful of Mitsuko's desire to not reveal more information and she didn't press the matter further. She just smiled at Mitsuko and patted the girl's hand. She placed her hand on the fox's head once more to send another wave of healing energy throughout her body. "Though you may feel strong enough to leave I would suggest remaining here for at least a few more hours."

Theora reached into her robes and pulled out an amulet made with emerald, amethyst, and brushed gold. She held it in her hand while she spoke. "Again I thank you for your assistance regarding the Elven artifact. Should anyone choose to not cooperate with you during your investigation just inform them that you are on official business for the temple and the Head Council and show them this." She handed the amulet to Mitsuko and smiled. "It is the crest of the High Priestess of Elune. It is a symbol that you have my blessing on this endeavour. Now, if you will excuse me, I believe there are two men waiting to speak with you." She bowed her head in farewell and departed from Mitsuko's room.

Mitsuko appreciated the kiss to her forehead. It felt like a maternal gesture of comfort, something Mitsuko had not experienced in her twenty-two years. Whenever she had made a mistake in front of Midori, her mother made sure to chastise her for it rather than to try and make her feel better. "I've never felt like this before with any other guy. I was confused and scared, but... I know what I want now," Mitsuko said quietly. "I want him. I want him so much, it hurts... The idea of not being with him." She clutched at the sheets. "I'm really trying. To be better for him."

The lie was a necessity in Mitsuko's mind. There would be no justice if the vampire were taken into custody. She was raised to punish the guilty herself when she was attacked. That was the way of the Kamiyama family, of the Tenko Kitsune. It was not the business of others. "Of course I will," Mitsuko lied again, noddng. "I don't want them to get anyone else." It was true. Mitsuko didn't want any other citizen to fall to the bite of that psychopath. But she would be the one to take care of it. She felt warm again as Theora sent another wave of healing energy through her. She nodded, silently agreeing to remain at the medical pavilion for a few more hours.

She accepted the amulet with reverence. Her eyes widened slightly. It was not just the beauty of the crest, which was truly breathtaking. Rather, it was the thought that someone believed in her enough to entrust her with such a responsibility. "I'll do what I can," Mitsuko said quietly. It sounded a bit weak, but she couldn't really voice how great this responsibility felt. It was something she had never felt before. It was... Wonderful.

"They want to..." Mitsuko's eyes widened slightly and her hand went to her hair. She was sure she looked terrible, pale and bedrumpled. Did she really want Nico and Loki to see her so disheveled? But she wasn't strong enough to use her illusionary powers to improved her appearance. And she did truly want to see them. She laid back in the bed. "All right." She nodded, managing a tiny smile. "I want to see them too."

Loki didn't look his best either; he'd been up all night, only dozing off once in his chair, because he was worried about her. At first, he thought it had been his fault Mits has passed out. Too much yelling or too much stress or something else he had done. Maybe even breaking someone's heart could cause them to do that. Loki figured anything was possible at this point, and it had consumed him with guilt. Nothing unraveled the muse more than bringing someone else pain. A little humiliation was never out of the question with his prankster side and childish sense of humor, but pain was never a laughing matter. He preferred not to be the reason people felt that way, and it was easy to blame himself for Mits's condition.

When he saw Theora walk out and gesture for him to go see Mits, Loki sprang up from his seat and hurried into the room. Well, he hurried to the door. He walked the rest of the way, slowly approaching Mits's bed and taking a seat in the empty chair beside it. "How ya feelin'?" he asked weakly, his voice a little scratchy. He hadn't had much water since last night, having worried himself enough that he forgot to do things like get something to drink.

"I'm sorry I yelled at ya," Loki blurted out, feeling the need to get it all out at once. "I shouldn't 'ave done that. Mum always said never to yell at people, you'll regret it. I'm sorry I raised my voice like that. I don't 'ave much of an excuse for it." Loki hung his head down. He didn't really have an excuse for it, not in his eyes. Sure, he was upset, but it didn't stop him from feeling guilty. If he felt guilty, he must have did something wrong. "Do ya want water?" he asked, lifting his head again. "Somethin' to drink? I can get you somethin' to drink."

Mitsuko let out a trembling breath as she looked over Loki. She could see the concern and guilt etched on his tired features. While she didn't like seeing him so worried, it caused her heart to flutter slightly. That he was so concerned for her welfare.... Perhaps he did still care for her. Perhaps, even thought she had hurt him so, he couldn't help but love her. Love her... Maybe....

When he sat down beside her, Mitsuko reached out a slender hand to take Loki's. She squeezed weakly. She couldn't have done it stronger even if she had wished to. She was still tired. Besides, she wanted to give Loki the option to pull away if he wanted. "I'm tired," Mitsuko said quietly. Her own voice was a bit raspy. "Have you been here all night?"

She jumped a bit at Loki's sudden outburst. She leaned down and pressed a kiss to Loki's hand, silently accepting his apology. "Loki..." She raised her head to look at him. She bit her bit her lip slightly, her eyes already stinging with tears. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "I'm so, so sorry... I..." She didn't know what to say. She had already said so much and it had only made things worse. "It's you," she said quietly. "Honestly, truly... I only want you." Tears slid down her cheeks. "I don't want water. I just want to know if... If we're over."

Loki didn't pull his hand back when she reached out to touch him. His fingers curled gently around her own, not squeezing for fear he would hurt her if he did so. He sighed with a weak breath and nodded his head. "Y'ah," he said softly, his accent even noticeable in the low tones of his voice. "Been 'ere all night." He glanced over at Mitsuko with sadness in his eyes. "I wanted to make sure you were all right."

His tone picked up more concern as he asked her another question, unable to keep it from coming forward. "Is 'hat all?" Loki inquired, hoping Mits would be truthful with him. After all, she had just fainted and that wasn't from just tiredness. Something else had caused it or brought it about, and Loki wanted to know so he could help her. He couldn't very well help her if she wouldn't let him know and planned to keep it a secret. "Somethin' else is wrong," he said quietly. "I know it."

At her admission into the silence around them, Loki slowly lowered his head and looked down at the corner of the bed. "'S okay," Loki murmured. "Don't beat yourself up, Mits." He looked up, offering her a weak smile, though the tiredness showed behind his eyes. "'Specially with those boxin' gloves ya got on there."

He swallowed past the lump in his throat, finding it much harder to answer the final thing. Loki remained silent for a moment, but it wasn't long. "I just need time to think," he said honestly. "But like me mum always said, 'don't give up hope.' It's a tough thing to get back when you lose it . . . "

Mitsuko looked down at their hands. She managed a small smile when Loki didn't pull away, but rather held her slender hand. "I thought.... You were angry with me," Mitsuko looked up at Loki, her own expression sad, but there was a glimmer of something akin to relief. "But you... You wanted to make sure I was okay. Loki..."

Waiting for a long moment, Mitsuko considered everything that had happened. "Has anyone told you what was going on while you were away?" Before she could stop herself, the entire story had spilled out. How she'd left her Hoshi no Tama at the temple after she'd abandoned Irei, the stolen Elven artefact, how she'd be brought in for questioning, kept overnight and received much distain from the other citizens. "It really, really sucked," Mitsuko said quietly. "And the whole time, I just kept on telling myself that it would get better. That when you got back it would be better. And it almost worked that way. I was declared innocent the day before you got back. But I went out that night to the wine bar. I was..." She lowered her voice. "Well, I was stealing. To celebrate, you know? And there was this guy there. I don't even know how it happened, but he... He was a vampire. I didn't know that, until his teeth were in my neck. Got into a scuffle with him. Ended up having to jump out the window so he didn't kill me. Suppose I should have gotten myself looked after right away, but..." She sighed. "I didn't want the authorities to hear about it." She sighed deeply, very tired after having laid out everything that had happened over the past two weeks. "I guess our fight was just... One thing too many. My body just kinda gave up."

Mitsuko nodded solemnly. She would give Loki the time he needed. As much as she wanted to push, she knew that would just make things worse. She reached up with her free hand to touch his cheek. "I understand." She gave him a small smile. "You look tired. I hate that I made you so worried."

Loki looked down with a sad expression on his face. "I was 'nly upset," he spoke lowly. Loki rarely got angry. It wasn't characteristic of him to do so, but he was very capable of getting upset. Then again, Loki never had a person close to him get purposefully hurt by someone or something before, and he didn't know how far something like that could push him. The muse hadn't had any experience with things of that nature.

The muse blinked in confusion, shaking his head at her question. As far as he knew, nothing had really happened while he was away. The story she told him about the Elven artifact made him mad at those involved with the questioning and the Head Council. Loki might have gotten up and stormed around the room, going on and on about them, only he was kept in his place by the reminder that Mitsuko had kissed another guy, this Irei guy, whoever he was, and the fact that Mitsuko kept explaining her story. He didn't want to interrupt her either as she went on. Loki made a sad face as Mitsuko relayed that she had been stealing that night. It was a bad habit Loki hoped he could help her shake eventually. However, when she mentioned a vampire had attacked her, of all things, Loki only remained seated long enough for her to finish, her hand touching his cheek. He shared a soft look with her before he remembered immediately a vampire had tried to kill her.

Loki finally did get up and storm around the room. "I'll kill 'im!" Loki said loudly, though he wasn't shouting. There was a growly look on his face, nothing like anything Loki normally wore. He turned to Mits, determination in his eyes. They should tell the authorities! Mitsuko expressed she didn't want to, though, but Loki shook his head. "We should tell 'em," he said with a stout nod. "Mits, they need to know! Somebody attacked you, and that's not supposed to happen! If there's a crazy psychopath runnin' 'round, then 'e needs to be dealt with by proper authorities," Loki insisted. He was adamant about this. She may have wanted to keep this quiet, but Loki didn't think that was right. They had to tell someone about this!

Mitsuko looked up at Loki sadly, biting her lip. "I've never upset someone and had them...." She swallowed hard. "Well, it usually involves knives and banishment." She wasn't trying to gain sympathy. It was just a a fact of her existence. She had never managed to maintain friendship. It was just part of her life. She had surrounded herself with mistrustful and vengeful people. "I never wanted to upset you. I'm so sorry. I was so worried about hurting you..." She sighed. "And I did hurt you. Gomen nasai."

She could see the concern and upset on Loki's face. It gave her hope that their relationship might endure. That was all she could feel concerned about at this moment. She wanted things to be all right with them. She couldn't imagine not being with him. The very idea hurt more than anything that vampire had done to her.

"Loki!" Mitsuko jerked herself to sit up and immediately regret it as her head hurt. She winced, but continued to crawl to the foot the bed and reached out to take Loki's hand. "Loki, you can't do that," she said quietly, evenly. "That's not how I do things. I'm a Tenko Kitsune. The Tenko don't go to the authorities. We are the authority. Any slight made against us is returned personally." She squeezed his hand. "I need to do this myself. My mother will not forgive me if she finds out I did not handle this myself and she's keeping a close eye on me." She had not yet mentioned her mother was back in the picture. "I'm going to make sure he doesn't hurt anyone else."

It was hard for the muse to really say anything. Most of what he felt at that moment showed on his face instead of coming out in actual words. No, he didn't hold it against the kitsune. It wasn't like him to be able to hold out a grudge, even when it came to himself getting hurt because of it. Usually, he only saved his vengeful pranks for those who hurt his friends than for his actual friends. Even then, he generally forgot about things given a little time.

He needed to tell her she was forgiven, though, and so he did. "You don't have ta say it anymore," Loki told her in a low voice. "I already f'rgive ya." It was simple enough to say, and hopefully, she would realize he meant it. He meant it all the way.

Loki's stomp around the room might have continued if it weren't for Mitsuko's interruption. He looked down at his hand, which she had taken, and met her eyes. He felt himself wanting to counter what she said. A lot of people wanted to take part in taking care of things, but Loki believed it was important to get other people involved, too. "But this is Elysium," Loki told her firmly, sitting down on the edge of the bed beside Mits. "They 'ave law here. It should be reported to people who are used to takin' care of this sort of thing." Loki wasn't much for authority in general unless it was the governing body or law. He also wasn't getting the whole picture of what Mits was trying to explain to him.

Loki furrowed his brow as he looked at her. "Wouldn't your mother understand? You shouldn't keep it to just yourself . . . " he continued, his voice fading somewhat, trying to persuade her. In the end, though, if Mits really pushed it, then Loki wasn't going to say anything about it. He certainly wouldn't be happy, but he'd live with it.

Mitsuko bit her lower lip and looked up at Loki with hopeful eyes. She managed a small smile when he said she was forgiven. Maybe they were moving closer to reconciliation. She had never heard anyone say such words to her before. It reassured her once again that her affection for Loki was so very right. It was not a simple infatuation. "Loki...." She dashed away a few tears. "Arigatou," Her voice was a bit shaky as she gave him a small smile.

She then considered the situation, everything Loki was saying to her. She squeezed his hand gently, wanting to enjoy the touch for a moment. Even if she had just meant it to get him to calm down, she wanted to feel his hand in hers for another moment. "It doesn't matter where we are," Mitsuko said quietly. "I am Tenko. Nothing, not even the end of the world, can change that. Not only am I a Tenko, but I was raised to take over them. To be their leader. I may act like a rebel, but that's what I was taught since I was a kit. That I am supposed to be strong enough to not only take care of my own problems, but the problems of every Kitsune. Even after I left them.... Well, it's not something that's easily unlearned."

She shook her head slowly. "You obviously don't know my mother if you think that." She paused. "But now that you're back, I bet you'll meet her." She looked down. "She's taking a real interest in my activities." She gave an apologetic shrug. "I know it doesn't make any sense, Sailor. But that's... That's just how we do things. That's how we've done things for hundreds of years. Not many people understand the Kitsune, so we like to deal with things on our own."

Loki didn't understand the complex social network of kitsune. He had once lived in a place that had been home to many praeternaturals, even before Elysium came along, yet even there kitsune were not a part of the population. Foxes weren't really into tropical island climates. "If ya think that's the right thing to do . . . " Loki said, but his voice trailed off towards the end and, with his head tilted downwards, he gave her a very imploring look. It was like to him to continually mention the idea he thought was best for a while, though now he ceased to speak of it and gave her a look that said he still approved of something else more. The muse sometimes had a stubborn streak, although it wasn't as stubborn as most people.

A small frown crossed over Loki's features. He also didn't know Mitsuko's mother, but he didn't like to a think a parent couldn't understand a different choice their child made. Coming from a family of two laid-back and cheerful parents, Loki's upraising seemed to happen on a completely different world. He nodded his head, quiet for a moment. Then, it popped into his head that Nico was still waiting outside. Loki looked at Mits with a kind expression.

"Nico 'elped me bring you over 'ere," he told her. "He's waitin' outside." Loki leaned in towards Mitsuko's side. "He's been worried 'bout ya, too."

The social network of the Kitsune was indeed complex. They interacted differently with other species, with other clans, with other families and then with members of their own blood. Mitsuko felt the burden of the Kitsune, as the heir to the Kamiyama family, who were most likely to rule the Tenko. In turn, the Tenko very often ran much of the Japanese praeternatural world. She had always been told to take care of her own issues, lest she show weakness. "I'll be okay," Mitsuko said quietly. She reached up and played with a stray lock of Loki's hair. She didn't want to impose herself on him until he was ready to resume their relationship. But she wanted him to know she still felt deep affection for him. "And I'm not going to let anyone else get hurt." She gave him a weak smile. "Try not to worry?"

Mitsuko wanted to tell Loki how fretful she was about the presence of her mother in Elysium. How one look from her mother could shake her normally unfailing bravado. Even lacking the rest of their clan, Kamiyama Midori was a formidable woman. But things still weren't settled between them. Until Loki sorted out his emotions for Mitsuko, she didn't want to burden him with hers. But still, there was a sad look in her eyes.

"So desu ka," Mitsuko murmured softly. She bit her lower lip. "We weren't getting along too well while you were away. I thought... He hated him." She fought the urge to lean in towards Loki. "I'd like to thank him."

Nico had entered the room when Loki had come out and said it was all right. The sprite came in looking less disheveled than Loki but disheveled nonetheless. While he had gotten more sleep than his friend it was on a very uncomfortable chair that didn't have any cushions. His ass felt numb by the time he woke up and it took a good twenty minutes of walking around until he could feel anything in his cheeks. Still, he waited until the morning to make sure that Mitsuko would be all right. While he didn't agree with what she had done with Irei, and while he had ripped her a new one because of it, that didn't mean that he wished her any harm.

He came in and held up a hand to Mits in hello and stood next to the bed. "I thought I told you to keep the celebration to a minimum," he said jokingly. His hand reached up behind his head to scratch it idly and then nodded his head. He wasn't very good with these sorts of situations, the ones that required him to be sensitive or some shit. But he was going to try, for Loki's sake.

"So yeah... you know you're really not allowed to do that shit again," he said with his arms crossed over his chest. "It's not cool to make people worry." That was about as sensitive as he was going to get but it showed that he did at least care. He offered the kitsune a smile and then looked around the room. "So... when do you get to leave?"

Mitsuko gave Nico a small smile as she wrapped her arms around her legs and hugged them close to her body. She was even less sure about what to say to Nico than she was to Loki. Loki, she could apologize and try to make things better. But she still didn't feel like she had done anything to Nico she had to apologize for. Things were just... Off. But it seemed like they were getting back to normal now.

"What can I say?" Mitsuko shrugged slightly. "I couldn't contain myself. I know, I know... I'm a bad girl."

She looked down, listening to Nico voice his concern about her. She held up her pinky in promise. "I won't do it again, not if I can help it. I don't want to make you worry." She brushed her hair out of her face and sighed deeply. "I think they want to keep me another night. Make sure I'm all right. But you and Loki should go home. Get some rest." She then got up, shakily walking to him. She leaned in and gave him a peck on the cheek. "Arigatou, Nico-kun."

Nico could appreciate Mitsuko's attempt at good humor. It showed that she wasn't going to let little things get to her and that was always a good rule to have in life. It also meant that they could both move past their little encounter just a couple weeks earlier.

"You know what you need to do with bad girls, don't you Loki?" He gave his friend a pointed look and chuckled. "I only have one word - spanking." He shook his head and chuckled even more before he stifled it to listen to Mitsuko speak. He nodded as she said she she wouldn't get hurt again grinned. "Well that's more like it," he said with his arms across his chest. What Nico wasn't expecting was for Mits to get out of bed.

"Hey wait a sec-" he had begun to say as he stepped forward to stop her movement. But she said something that Nico knew meant 'thank you' (thanks to Zach's dad) and then kissed him on the cheek. The sprite blinked in confusion and then let out an amused huff of air.

"Yeah, not a problem," he said as he helped her back to bed. Once Mits was settled in and resting again Nico turned to Loki and nodded his head toward the door.

"C'mon bro, let's get home and get some sleep." The two boys left Mits and the medical pavilion, walking slowly and tiredly toward their cottage in town where they would finally be able to rest for a few hours. It had been a long night, after all, and they both deserved it.
