Thursday: September 6, 2007
Who: Constance, Dylan, Mitsuko, Logan, Shigeru, Irei, and Elven guards.
When: 12:00 PM
Where: Town Hall
What: The questioning over the stolen elven artifact.

Outside of the grand structure of Town Hall, there seemed to be a perfect silence that had settled upon its grounds. No clatter or clamor echoed from within the building, only a calm quiet permeated the air. The only movement appeared to be a gentle breeze passing through the tall grass and the flowers outlining the fine building. However, the silence was an ominous sort of feeling for those approaching its structure. The question of what to expect within remained ever unclear.

Once a person walked into the main entrance, they were greeted by an array of Elven guards outlining the hallways. One of the guards would approach and inquire of their name and their business in Town Hall. When their name was given and if they were one of the people summoned from the day before, they were asked if they had brought their summons letter. Those who brought theirs were asked to show them; those who did not were known by name as it were by the guards. They were then escorted singularly to one of the four small chambers set aside for the interrogations on this day.

The four interrogation rooms had elven magic cast upon them to render all within the room incapable of performing their natural magic, temporarily "nullifying" their abilities as long as they were in the room. However, this protective measure also worked against those who were the questioners. Of course, attributes like strength remained the same, and so two Elven guards were placed in each room along with the interrogator.

Now, it was time to see what those brought forth would say.

The elven guard in the room was stoic and still, a living statue dressed in the leather armor that all the elven guards in Elysium wore. He stood there behind the only table in the room in silence. His staff was held firmly in his left hand, while his right hand lied quietly along the side of his body. His only task here today was to question the suspect and to gather as much information as she could with regards to the theft of the ancient Elven artifact.

There was a single chair in the room meant only for the suspect to sit upon. The guard would stand while he asked his questions. He did not need paper or ink to record the answers, his memory was good enough to remember all that would be necessary. He waited patiently for the guard outside to bring in the suspect, a female kitsune by the name of Mitsuko Kamiyama.

He would have to watch himself with her, or so he was warned by the Head Council. She was a crafty trickster who would try to fool him if she could. But the questioning rooms were specially warded to nullify magical spells and illusions, so there would be no attempts at trickery while she was being questioned. Plus, the questioning guard was not alone as a comrade stood in silence near the doorway, a protective measure should the suspect get violent or try to escape.

The door finally opened and Mitsuko was brought inside. She was invited to sit upon the chair and to get comfortable before the guard began to speak.

“Mitsuko Kamiyama, where were you on the night of Saturday, September the first?”

Mitsuko walked into the interrogation room with her head held high, arrogance all over her face. She had heard about the Elves current panic over the missing mystical thingamabob and knew immediately why she was being called in. She had almost thought of running, but decided to just face her questioning with cool Kitsune dignity.

She threw herself into the chair, dressing in a tight white dress. She smiled. Sharon Stone had nothing on her.

"I didn't do it," Mitsuko said simply. "That's what you're getting at, isn't it? I didn't steal that elfy magical whatsits."

The guard's gaze was steady upon the arrogant kitsune. Such unfounded arrogance in the elf's opinion but he kept his mouth shut. This wasn't the time for that and he knew that. The guard remained in his spot and stared intently at the kitsune.

"That was not my question. I asked you where you were on the night of Saturday, September the first."

The guard would not sway from his line of questioning until he got a clear answer from the fox.

Mitsuko remained calm. She glared at the guard, absolutely unimpressed by him. She knew he felt the same about her. In fact, he saw her as the lowest of the low. She was a criminal. That was all she was ever going to be to the Head Council. To everyone it seemed... A no-good liar and cheat.

"I went to Emily Planck's birthday party with my brother. We stayed for a few hours. Then I took him home along with Irei Arakaki. Irei and I left, went to the wine bar and got some wine and we sat outside the temple and drank it. Then I left. And..." She paused. "And then I just wandered." She narrowed her gaze. She wasn't going to give anything away.

She crossed her arms over her chest. She wasn't the least bit amused by this situation. She had never been caught before and the few times she'd be close, she'd wiggled out of it easily. How ironic it was that now she was the prime suspect in a theft.

The criminal aspect certainly lent to the guard's feelings about Mitsuko, but a part of his dislike went much deeper than that. He was part of the ancient Elven people who first inhabited Elysium, part of the first race to learn to use magic successfully and one of the oldest species on the planet. This kitsune had arrogance where there shouldn't have been any. Foxes who turned into humans and their only magic was illusionary. Pathetic in his opinion, but this was not the time for his opinion.

"Why did you choose to go drink at the temple?" Simple and to the point. Out of all the places in Helicharis why choose the temple? The guard was indeed curious to find out the fox's reasoning.

Mitsuko's feelings towards the guard weren't much different. She always felt the Elves were far too pretentious and full of themselves. They had never given the proper respect to Kitsune. The Kitsune did not have a great deal of magical ability, but they made up for it in their extreme wit and cunning. While not as old or powerful as the Elves, the Kitsune pretty much had the run of Japan for centuries.

Unfortunately, they weren't in Japan.

"It was there," Mitsuko said with a shrug. "It was quiet. Couldn't stay at my place because of Logan and Irei has a roommate who doesn't like him drinking." Mitsuko smiled. "Believe me. If I want to steal that damn thing, I wouldn't have been getting drunk. I like a clear head when I'm on the job."

What respect was there to be given to those who aimed at misleading others? Those who sought to be rogues instead of being forthright and true. So the Kitsune had the run of Japan - what was Japan in the grand scheme of the world? An island in the Pacific and nothing more.

"I did not ask you whether or not you stole anything," the guard said evenly. "Please answer the questions I do ask and nothing more. Understood?"

His eyes narrowed slightly and he continued. "Other than Mister Arakaki, do you have anyone who can account for your whereabouts on that night? And do you have a criminal history, Ms. Kamiyama? Can anyone vouch for your character and your behavior while you have been in Elysium? Could you provide us with those names?"

The guard fired one question after another at her and barely gave her any time to answer in between. She would answer them all at once and he would continue with her interrogation for as long as it took.

Mitsuko rose to her feet. She was very short compared to the Elf, but she wanted to look as intimidating as she could. "Listen to me, you arrogant Elvish bastard... I didn't do anything. So I'll comment on whatever I damn well please. And if you have a problem with that, you can just try to shut me up."

She crossed her arms over her chest. "No. Irei is the only person I saw that night. The next people I saw were Logan and Shigeru Takemoto the next morning." She cocked her head. "I've never been arrested for any crime--" she had been smart enough to avoid such things. "--I have no criminal record. But even if I did, my past has absolutely no bearing on this. You can't accuse me of a crime just because what I may or may not have done in the past."

Mitsuko looked down. "I have a brother. I'm his only family. He needs me. I don't know what kind of punishment you guys have, but I know it would take me away from him. Do you really think I would risk being separated from him?"

The guard behind Mitsuko took a step forward and placed a firm hand on her shoulder to keep her in place. There was a fear that some of the suspects would resort to physical violence, but so far the only thing that the kitsune did was stand to argue fervently at the guard. The Elven guard in charge of questioning was not at all intimidated by the fox and he took a step toward her.

"You will sit down, Ms. Kamiyama, or it may be interpreted that you attempted escape from interrogation." He glared at her and the guard that stood behind Mitsuko applied gentle pressure to guide the girl back to her seat.

The main Elven guard continued his line of questioning once she had calmed down. "One need not be arrested for crime to have a criminal history. We merely asked that question to see how truthful you would be with us, and we have information that contradicts your statement. It would seem that you have chosen to lie to us." He stared at her intently and arched a brow.

"Your past reveals your character. Once a thief... always a thief. Perhaps you do not care about your brother as you claim; most thieves are quite selfish and would say anything to avoid capture. Coupled with your kitsune arrogance, I would have to say that you think of no one other than yourself."

He gripped his staff tightly and took a deep breath. "One last question, Ms. Kamiyama. Where is your Hoshi no Tama?"

Mitsuko narrowed her gaze. She wasn't resorting to physical violence. She was just demonstrating that these guards couldn't push her around. She shook her head fiercely. "Attempted escape? You Elves are so full of shit! I'm just standing here! I'm not even trying to attack you! You must be really pathetic if you think a ninety-pound-girl can slip out of your hold." She jerked her shoulder away from the other guard. "All right, all right! I'm sitting!"

She sat back down. "Bullshit," Mitsuko hissed. "A criminal record is a list of past crimes in which an individual has been convicted or received official reprimand. As I have neither, I have no criminal record. But that obviously doesn't matter to you." She laughed coldly. "You've already decided I'm guilty. No matter what I say, you're going to think it's a lie."

She glared hard at the guard. "But I swear on my life, I didn't do it..." She looked livid. "That ugly-ass thing was as tacky as hell. Why the fuck would I want it?"

Mitsuko couldn't contain her anger at the suggestion she didn't care for Logan. She leapt up. The guard behind her restrained her and she kicked her legs, trying to reach her interrogator. "You motherfucking.... Conceited... Piece of shit... He's the only... He's my...." She switch to Japanese, letting loose with a string of very unflattering words. "Self-righteous... Arrogant...."

She calmed at the next question, stopping her fight. She swallowed hard. "Well, since you're asking me... I'm going to say you have it." She glared at him. "I want a lawyer."

The guard was stoic throughout all of Mitsuko's nonstop ranting. Her voice was like nails scratching against a chalkboard to the Elven guard and it took all of his concentration to keep his own temper in check. It would do no good to get physical with the small kitsune since it would get him into trouble. What he wanted more than anything was to see this girl put in her place and her answer to the question about the Hoshi no Tama, was the last reason he needed to place her into a holding cell overnight.

"Ms. Kamiyama, your overall reluctance to be cooperative in our questioning today leaves me with no other choice than to keep you in a holding cell for twenty-four hours. Hopefully that time will allow you to think about your actions here today, and in the past. Perhaps it'll be enough for you to decide to clean your conscience and to confess to your crime." He had, as Mitsuko had said, decided that the fox was guilty. He began to walk toward the door and stopped alongside Mitsuko to glance at her out of the corner of his eyes.

"Someone will be by to escort you to your cell. Good day, Ms. Kamiyama." With that he left the room, pleased with his work there that day.

Dylan and Irei

After long talks with Constance over the matter, Dylan revealed he did not wish to interrogate Mistuko or her brother. With the past issues between himself and the brother and sister, he believed his presence would only aggravate the situation at hand and undermine their business here today. As Constance insisted on interrogating the young man named Shigeru, it was then up to Dylan to question the young man known as Irei Arakaki — or Shinsuke Arakaki, as his birth name suggested within their citizenship records. His specialty was necromancy. Shinsuke was but a human, and the only necromancer that Dylan had knowledge of within Elysium.

He waited patiently for the arrival of Shinsuke Arakaki. Part of him was interested in meeting the young man. Dylan had never met a necromancer before in his long life. People with sway over the dead, capable of using it for good or for evil. Dylan believed anyone in Elysium would be using their powers for good, to relieve the spirits of the dead. And so, as the djinn waited for Shinsuke, he was calm as ever with a feeling of intrigue washing over him. He wondered if Shinsuke did indeed have anything to do with the stolen elven artifact, the Mir’en’Galad, or if perhaps he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

When Shinsuke Arakaki was escorted through the door by one of the guards, Dylan believed he would have his answer very soon.

Irei walked into the room not really expecting much, though he felt suddenly alone, even with Dylan sitting there waiting for him. It was as if the presence he had become used to was suddenly gone. His eyes widened in surprise as he glanced around trying to quell the growing paranoia within him.

Irei didn't like feeling thrown out of sorts so he took a breath, controlled his expression, and walked over to the empty chair. He smoothly sat down and crossed his legs as he looked at the man he remembered seeing at the few town meetings he had actually attended. He could recall that Dylan was his name, or at least what people had shortened it to.

He had been curious as to what they would want from him in this matter. Irei crossed his arms to match his legs and leaned against the back of the chair. “So what exactly can I help the head council with?”

Irei had had run ins with the police back at home in Okinawa, and in New York a few times. Back then he had been known to borrow motorcycles for joy rides. Though borrowing a motorcycle was completely out of the question in a place like this they no longer existed and where the fastest thing you can ride was a horse. Or possibly those Hippogriffs...Irei had wondered how much faster those were. Not that it mattered. Animals didn’t like him anyways.

“I suppose this has something to do with the disappearance of the elfin item?”

Dylan smiled politely upon Shinsuke's arrival, bowing his head at the young man. When his head rose again, he folded his hands and laid them upon the table. "Good day, Mister Shinsuke Arakaki," Dylan greeted him in his deep voice. He, too, had felt the strange effects of the room once he had entered, though his experience was no doubt much different than Shinsuke's experience. Dylan was not used to the company of spirits lingering in his presence, and no doubt the sudden silence might have been alarming for the necromancer.

"Please, do not be alarmed," Dylan continued kindly, a genuine quality to his voice. "We have the rooms protected against all forms of magic to make today run smoothly," he informed the young man. "It is a precautionary gesture on our part, though I thought it was a bit much myself." He smiled somewhat here, his gaze roving slowly over the room. "But do sit," he offered, gesturing towards the empty chair across from himself. "We will not be long. I do not wish to keep you from your plans for today."

Dylan nodded. "You are correct, Mr. Arakaki. It has disappeared, and it is within our interests to return it to its rightful place. I was informed that you may have information that might aid us in our case." His first question was simple and mandatory. "Could you explain to me the events you partook in on the night of September 1st in chronological order, and with as much detail as you can recall?"

Irei physically bristled at the sound of his given name. A name that he didn't use anymore. "Don't call me that. That name is not in use anymore." Irei tilted his head down but kept his sharp blue eyes on Dylan. "It is Irei Arakaki. Mr. Arakaki will do, or if you are familiar with my culture, Arakaki-san.”

He forced his body to relax in the chair again and looked away from the djinn. Irei was touchy about his real name and didn’t really like the sound of it on other’s lips. He hadn’t even told Sascha his real name, and he wasn’t real sure why he had told Kaiya. Being around her had made him feel so high.

“I’m passed it, but I hardly think my powers would really become a problem in this case. They would certainly have no direct effect on you.” Actually the silence was strange. Almost more eerie than the normal feeling of whispered thoughts in his head where only his own thoughts remained.

Irei snorted and rolled his eyes a bit as he sat up again. “It’s ridiculous. They leave it out in the open with all of these different people, mostly human, milling around. How can they not expect that it would get stolen? You’d think they would know humanity by now. No matter how many good people there are in the world, it only takes one bad one...”

He sighed and shut his eyes as he recalled that night in his mind. “Ah well, I guess I’ll start at Emily Planck’s birthday party. My roommate, Sascha, and I attended. We all surprised Emily as per her daughter’s hopes. Hm, Then I left with Mitsuko Kamiyama. We got drunk, kissed a bit, and then she left me. I then stumbled home, and fell asleep.” He shrugged. “That was it. I can’t say I had anything to do with that elf trinket. Not that I really care.”

Dylan was not sure why the other man bristled at him, and yet it was not of his pleasure to make another uncomfortable. "I apologize, Arakaki-san. Would you prefer I called you that?" It was an honest curiosity in his voice, wanting merely to confirm what the young man preferred to be called. Dylan himself had more than one name, although he was happy with either one. "My name is Nkemdilim Uzoma, but you may call me Dylan for short. It was a nickname given to me by a young boy, and I find I rather like it. Either one is okay for you to call me." He bowed his head towards the other man in a polite gesture.

The other man continued to speak, even though they were not answers to questions Dylan had asked of him. However, they interested the djinn nonetheless, and his mind sharpened at the accusation made against humans. "Do you think a human performed the crime, Arakaki-san?" Dylan asked with interest. "The artifact was protected by powerful magic. I would find it very interesting if a human was capable of removing the object from its cradle without help from a praeternatural. There are very few who can break the spells of my kind or of Elven kind, which would make a human being be the last of my worries in this particular case."

It was his summarization of the issue. The object was on display for spiritual purposes, and Dylan did not think it was unwise of them to do so with proper protection. The true question of the matter was how anyone got past the protective measures that were taken. He listened carefully to Arakaki explain his whereabouts that night, but one thing interested him. The young man did not say where he went after the party.

"You left with Mitsuko Kamiyama," Dylan repeated slowly. "Where did the two of you go that night?"

"Ah, see, there we have something in common. Other children gave me my name as well. Of course it wasn't meant to be such a nice thing as shortening my name. But you didn't ask, or better yet order me to come here to talk about that." Irei was talking more than he thought he would originally. He seemed to be filling the silence left in his head by listening to his voice.

"There are plenty of humans here with magical abilities that could get possibly get past magic. It's not so odd to think it was a human though it might be improbable to say the least." Irei drummed his fingers on the armchair. His fingers itched for something to hold. A cigarette would be nice right about now.

Irei dug into his pant pocket and pulled out his rumpled pack of cigarettes and his lighter, before looking up at Dylan with a questioning look, “Do you mind....?” He pulled out a stick and flicked his Zippo open.

Irei noticed how Dylan slowed his speech when he asked the question about where he and the pretty kitsune lady had gone that night. Irei licked his lips. So that’s who they believed who had stolen the precious elven thing. Irei and she had been talking about it that night hadn’t they? Irei recalled calling it tacky at the time, and he remembered she had felt similar about it.

Irei pursed his lips and then smiled. “Well, it was pretty dark, and I was pretty drunk. I’m actually amazed that I made it home in one piece.”

Arakaki-san intrigued Dylan with each passing moment. He bristled at the mention of his given name and preferred to be called Irei, and yet, when he mentioned how he came about receiving the name ‘Irei,’ it was through negative or cruel circumstances by other people. Why, then, would the young man preferred to be called the thing which was demeaning to his spirit? “You intrigue me, Arakaki-san,” Dylan announced softly as he looked pointedly at the young man. “You prefer to be called a name which has negative past connotations with it, but you shun your given name.” However, Dylan said no more on the topic.

“The only metahumans capable of getting past the magic might be a witch or sorcerer, but even then, they would have to be very old . . . and very powerful. Therefore, I do think it is odd unless they worked hand in hand with another praeternatural.” Here, Dylan looked closely at the young man. He could not say what drove the boy to the temple that night with the kitsune other than lust and other such desires.

“There is no smoking in here, I am afraid,” the djinn informed him. Perhaps all of these little things were making the young man more and more uncomfortable, but an uncomfortable setting, he had learned, often invoked the truth more than a lie.

“Was there anyone else aside from Mitsuko Kamiyama who saw you drinking alcohol that night and can come to the Town Hall and confirm that?” Dylan inquired. If Irei was indeed drunk, there was no way he could have successfully thieved the object with the kitsune or partaken in the act, but he might very well be covering for the young woman.

Irei knew he was a walking contradiction. He was antisocial, yet he was terrified of being alone; he liked having sex, but was very bad in relationships; and, he spent a lot of time alone, but he was very protective of the few people he cared for. That was just to name a few of his contradictions. He shrugged at the interest Dylan seemed to have in him. "Irei roughly means 'spirit comfort' in my language. It seemed to fit me better."

"Hmmm, and yet you're asking me questions about it. I find that odd frankly. Besides, what praeternatural can you think of that would be powerful enough to steal something that had so many protective wards on it? I mean, aside from the Head Council...of course. I'd think you people would be keeping tabs on someone that powerful coming in here." Irei crossed his legs and rested his hands on his knee after putting away his cigarettes. He was putting an effort to not fidget as the nicotine craving got worse.

"Did anyone see us?" Irei chuckled. "If they did then they must have been following us around like a peeping Tom, which eventually leads to stalking. Stalking is still a crime here, isn't it?" He shrugged again. "We were both incredibly drunk. I suppose everyone at the party would have seen us leave together. Is that what you're looking for?"

"I am asking you questions about it because you were spotted by the temple the night the object was stolen," Dylan informed him, "with another praeternatural at your side. It is standard procedure to question you, of all people, especially since while you may not have committed the crime, you may have seen something that may aid us. But you do not seem very apt to wish to help us, Arakaki-san." Dylan was a kind person with a soft hand in dealing with matters, but despite all of his efforts to be kind, Irei was not returning the common gesture. The djinn was finding less and less reason to continue his kindness.

"There are many praeternaturals of immense power, Arakaki-san. You should know this, being one who may raise the dead should he learn how to do so. Our gifts are innumerous and wide, spanning across many species. Though we are the Head Council, we are not all-powerful. No leadership holds that sort of sway, nor should they ever over their people. Now," Dylan said more firmly, leaning forward with crossed arms upon the table, "you may acknowledge as I do that the world does not revolve around these perfect models you are forming in your head as we speak and answer me honestly and truthfully, or we may handle this in another manner."

The djinn's eyes, though his magic was suppressed due to the protective measures put over the room, seemed to then glow with their blue-flamed power. He ignored Irei's comment on stalking, which had nothing to do with his inquiries. "Then we will contact those at the party and question them as well on your behalf. Until then, I believe it may be necessary to show to you the seriousness of the situation by holding you overnight."

The cynic within Irei smiled bitterly at the information now freely given by the djinn. "Ah, so what you're telling me is that you knew the whole time where I was, whether I remembered it or not. I suppose you were looking to entrap me, and make me incriminate myself or someone else so you wouldn't have to?" Most human kindness in these types of situations was lost on Irei. To him it sounded more like Dylan was trying to play games to get him to admit to something rather than just out right share what he knew.
“So someone was spying on us. Why would you want me to tell you something you already knew? It doesn’t really sound like your asking me to confirm anything. She and I were together that night, that’s true. We might have been by the temple, but both of us were too drunk to really realize it I think.”

“Ah, but my gifts really only extend to raising and dealing with the dead. It certainly wouldn’t aid me in stealing in anyway.” Irei raised his eyebrow at the mention of perfect models. “ I’m not sure I really understand what you’re talking about. English isn’t my first language...” Irei actually thought that was the point he was making. Maybe he just didn’t articulate his thoughts correctly.

Irei looked a little surprised. They were going to hold him overnight? It didn’t even seem like they were there for very long, nor were there many questions actually asked it seemed. “On what grounds am I being held? Because I happen to think that putting the powerful piece of tacky metal out on display was a bad idea in the first place?” Irei stood up and looked down at Dylan. “Oh I don’t think my attitude will change much. If anything, I’ll probably be ever more difficult to work with.” Irei narrowed his eyes and smiled.

The djinn was not playing games. Games were beyond his methods, and he did not participate in such things. He found a great desire to sigh deeply ensnare him, but it came out lighter and more controlled. Truthfully, Dylan was not sure this young man really knew anything of value or at least was even aware that he knew anything. Arakaki repeated the same story so far without any breaks in it. There was not much to currently go on for the time being.

For the moment, Dylan did not feel like elaborating further or clearing his words for him to understand. The young man was not cooperative and did not seem to be taking Dylan seriously. The djinn did not wish to waste precious time speaking in circles that led to no end.

Dylan slowly stood from his chair, his imposing height made clear. "You will find, Arakaki-san, that the laws of Elysium differ from the laws of the world you come from. We are holding you overnight because you are being uncooperative in helping us to solve a great theft. A theft that could be a danger to all people in Elysium, including yourself." Dylan's hands rested on the back of the chair he was once sitting in and now stood behind. His voice lowered itself. "This is not about a stolen piece of 'tacky metal,' as you call it, Mr. Arakaki. This is about power falling into the wrong hands. If you know anything, you would not be ignorant to withhold valuable information — not for me, not for your neighbors, but for yourself and your own safety and the safety of those you care about. I assume there are people you care about, Mr. Arakaki?"

Dylan made his way towards the door. "The guards will take you to a holding cell," he said. Looking back at Irei, he furrowed his brow somewhat. "Then, do not change, Arakaki-san, if that is your wish." With that, Dylan opened the door and left the room holding Irei Arakaki.

The other elven guard in charge of questioning was happy to be of service to the Head Council of Elysium. Unlike some of the others, this guard carried an aura of compassion and kindness while never once shirking from his duties as a guard. For this reason alone he was chosen to question the young half-kitsune known as Logan Nagamori. Logan had become mute after he witnessed the death of his mother and all of the other tragedies associated with the war. The guard empathized with the young boy though that did not mean he would not go through with his duties.

There was a single table in the warded room along with one chair for Logan. Upon the table itself were two eight-by-ten note cards with one word written on each: YES and NO. They were meant to make questioning easier especially since the young man did not speak at all. There was also a stack of blank paper with a few well-sharpened pencils for when the questions required a longer answer.

The other guard in the room was like a statue, one who would not move unless the suspect made an attempt to escape or if he suddenly became violent. The elven guard in charge of questioning did not believe that, but he understood that the safety precautions were necessary. When the young man with the white ears entered the room, the guard invited him to sit upon the chair and to get comfortable.

“Logan Nagamori,” he began in a normal and calm voice. “Were you with your sister on the night of Saturday, September the first?”

Logan was shaking like a leaf when he was brought in for questioning. He had spoken to Mitsuko beforehand. Or rather, Mitsuko had spoken to him."

Don't be nervous. She had assured him, clutching his shoulders. Just answer their questions. And remember... I didn't do anything wrong.

Logan didn't want to get Mitsuko in trouble. She was all he had and he couldn't lose her. He didn't think she had done it... But he wasn't certain.

He couldn't meet the guard's eye sat down in the chair, shoulders slumped. His face was shadowed by the hood he wore. He swallowed hard as the question was asked. His hand shook as he pointed to the card which read NO.

The guard felt sorry for Logan when he noticed that the young man was shaking. He sensed fear coming from the half-kitsune and it confused the guard as to why the young man would be scared. The guard didn't believe that this meek boy could be the culprit and so perhaps his fear was for his sister. Did the boy believe that his sister was the one who stole the item?

He looked at the answer that the boy pointed to. NO.

No he wasn't with his sister. Well then where was he? The guard cleared his throat and continued his line of questioning.

"Were you at home that night?" He paused to give the boy time to answer. "Do you know where your sister went that night?" He continued and waited once more.

Logan wasn't really certain about anything. Oh, he knew of Mitsuko's reputation. She freely spoke about it. When they had been cleaning up the house, Mitsuko would pick up the things she was dusting and fondly recall how she had stolen it from some senator or a movie star. He had known about her reputation even before he had met her. But this time... This time he wasn't sure. He thought Mitsuko would brag about what she had done, like she did all of the other things she stole. But she had told him she hadn't done anything wrong.

It was the atmosphere that frightened him. The questions directly at him. And it was that he had no explanation for Mitsuko's whereabouts that night. He had remained up, worried about her. He'd only seen her arriving home, dress rumpled and dirty, in the morning. She had time to do the crime.

For the first question, Logan pointed to the YES. Slowly, his finger moved to the NO to answer the second. He looked down, frowning deeply. He was going to get Mitsuko into trouble. He knew it.

The boy's answers along with his demeanor caused the guard's brow to furrow. The Elven guard felt sorry for the boy and the situation he was placed in at that moment. He had been through enough already and he didn't need to have any more strife in his life, but something important had been stolen and unfortunately his sister was a prime suspect.

"What time did your sister return home?" Logan's answers would not get his sister in trouble, it would be her own actions that did that. Though for the boy's sake, the guard hoped that his sister was not responsible for the crime.

Logan tried his best to remain calm. Mitsuko had told him that no matter what, he hadn't done anything wrong. That nothing he said would get him into trouble. But his sister was all he had. If she were in trouble, he was in trouble too.

Logan took one of the pencils and blank sheets of paper and wrote 8:00 am.

The guard too tried his best to project an aura of calm as to not make the young boy even more anxious. Of course he had not committed any crime, and just because his sister might have did not mean he would get into trouble as well. They were two separate people and therefore Logan was not subject to the same punishment that Mitsuko was.

The female kitsune had not returned home until eight o'clock the following morning, which gave her plenty of time to commit the crime. The guard frowned and looked up at Logan. "Do you know where she was all night? Was she injured when she returned home? Did she mentioned anything about the previous night to you?"

The guard was certainly calming Logan more than another guard would have. But he was still on edge. He knew that if Mitsuko were found guilty, she would be taken away from him. He needed her. She was all he had now that his parents were gone.

Logan just shook his head, not bothering to point at the card that said no. He was getting more and more worried with each question. He took another sheet of paper and thought for a moment. He began to move his pencil fast. Not writing, but drawing. It was just a sketch-- he didn't have much time-- but it was decent. It was unmistakably Mitsuko looking rumpled in a dress, but otherwise unharmed. He held out the picture to the guard and to answer the final question, just shook his head. Mitsuko hadn't mentioned the night to him. But he knew she had been very unhappy about the events.

The Elven guard did not want to cause the boy any more anxiety than he already had. He tried to remain calm for the boy's sake. The guard knew that the half-kitsune was not responsible for the crime, but considering the information he had given during the questioning it seemed as if his sister had no alibi for the night that the jewel was stolen.

A pity really considering what they found at the scene of the crime.

He glanced at the rough sketch and nodded. He folded it neatly and smiled at Logan. "Thank you for your cooperation, Logan Nagamori."

The Elven guard didn't have the heart to ask the boy any more questions, but whatever information could be gleaned from him would only implicate the sister more and more. He bowed out of respect and Elven tradition and smiled at the young man. "I wish you luck in this situation, and whatever you encounter in life."

Logan breathed a sigh of relief at the questioning being done. He knew that this wasn't over yet. It was just going to get worse from here. But at least for the moment, it was over.

He rose to his feet quickly, bowing before rushing as quickly out of the room as he could.

Constance and Shigeru

From the moment of Constance’s meeting with Midori Kamiyama, she had it in her head that Shigeru Takemoto was going to be questioned by her and her alone. Sure, last time they met she told him off and implied he was an irresponsible teenager, even if she didn’t know his real age, she figured he was definitely acting like a teenager. First, being part of the Head Council meant that Constance knew she had to demand respect and receive respect; otherwise, she would not be taken serious as a leader. Constance demanded respect in all aspects of her life, though, and Shige was just about to learn how much power she did hold over him. Midori’s description of the young rascal told Constance that he didn’t respect and listen to anyone who wasn’t a darn kitsune.

Well, Constance would see about that.

With two elven guards in the room with her, she didn’t have to worry about Shige pulling any fast tricks on her. After all, she was an old woman and she knew it. She needed help or she wouldn’t have made Adam all those years ago. Things hadn’t changed since then. Thanks to the magic guarding the room, he couldn’t pull any illusionary tricks on her either — not while he was in her presence in this interrogation room.

Constance waited with a gleeful smile on her face that probably seemed inappropriate given the circumstances, but she wanted to greet Shige with a big grin and a happy-go-lucky demeanor. It was what she truly felt at the moment, and the giddiness just radiated off of her like little rays of sunshine in the small room.

All she needed now was for Shigeru to show up and the elven guards outside the room to escort him in.

Shige showed up around fifteen minutes late. If one intended to be late with the purpose of being rude, fifteen minutes is a perfect amount of time to let the other one stew. Just enough to realize it hadn't been accidental, and just enough to cause irritation but not outright anger. At least these was Shige's thoughts and intentions. Despite his lateness he had dressed impeccably, all hot labels and excellent tailoring. He didn't bother with a suit but his slacks and patterned button down shirt were classy enough for a meeting at the Town Hall.

Strolling up to the guards he gave his name while polishing off his cigarette, 'politely' crushing it on the sole of his shoe before dropping it to the floor of the town hall. Offering the guard a wicked smirk he followed him into the private room. While he wasn't magically inclined he could feel a change in the room when he crossed the threshold and he flicked his tail in annoyance. This was more serious than he though.

Seeing Constance he grinned smugly, not bothering to compose it to politeness. "Why Constance, what a pleasure." The slightly mocking tone in his voice made it clear that it wasn't exactly a pleasure. I didn't realize I would be speaking with you today." Looking around the small room he raised his eyebrows in pretend awe.

"Nice. Cozy." Turning back to her he reached for his cigarettes and tapped the container, removing one. "So...what can I do for you and the Head Council?"

Constance grinned brightly at the kitsune's final arrival. Fifteen minutes wasn't late to her; she had shown up an hour late or more for things before in her life. Since she had bad arthritis, sitting down and relaxing a little longer, given all the walking she was bound to do today, wasn't going to put a blister on her chipper mood. "Why, why, why," Constance said in happy mock surprise, "if it isn't Shigeru Takemoto, just the kitsune I wanted to see." Her hand gestured towards the seat across from her on the other side of the table. "Please, sit," she offered.

Seeing him bring out his cigarettes, Constance leaned over and plucked the unlit cigarette from his fingers. "There's no smoking in here," she said with a big grin, handing the cigarette to one of the elven guards on either side of her. The elf took it and began to examine it curiously, wondering what it was. Constance, however, didn't waste time for the reason why Shige was brought here today.

"Your Hoshi no Tama," Constance told him immediately. The grin on her face grew into a toothy display. She held out one of her hands. "Let me see it if you have it on you. If you don't have it on you, well then, just scadaddle right on home and come back with it. And that's all, honey. Once I see it, you can go and do whatever your little heart desires."

It really was as simple as that. Constance dismissed Shige from the interrogation room, leaving him with whatever impression her simple request had on him. He wasn't being charged with anything, and she didn't have any questions for him.

Once she saw his Hoshi no Tama, she could tell it was different from Mitsuko's Hoshi. She was an alchemist, after all. It was all she needed to know, and Shige was cleared completely from their list.
