Wednesday: September 5, 2007
Who: Open to All [especially Sanura Hart and Vienna Kwon]
When: Morning
Where: Outside Sanura's cottage and outside of Vienna's cottage
What: It's raining dead animals...

The night was long and quiet, and the morning was greeted with the soft sprinkling of rain from the heavens above. A cool, and crisp start to the morning; the kind of start that refreshed the spirits and awakened the senses. Rain - clean and baptismal, washed away the sins of the night leaving nothing behind except fresh dew drops and unsullied scents. It fell upon windows softly, tapping against the glass with gentleness.

Pitter patter, pitter patter . . .

An unspoken invitation to enjoy the outdoors while it is born anew and unfettered. An invitation for one to open his or her eyes and see what the morning held, what the new sun brought with its dew-dropped rays. Underneath the dawning of a new day and its cleansing raindrops, of course, there could be nothing but a fiery rose-colored sunrise to behold and the promise of another beautiful day born from its quenched ashes. It was another day to meet with friends and family, another day to enjoy the splendor of living like every other day before it.

Yet, the smell of death traveled on the air. Newly rotting flesh of fresh corpses, but corpses of what? It was hard to say, the smell could not be fully sensed. For those close to it, it was all too familiar and real, though, and the day did not bring such nice tidings for them . . .

OOC note: There will be sub-threads for each character's house. The character is urged to reply, but it is also open for anyone who happens to be passing by or anyone who wants their character to get in on the fun! Remember though, the cottages are not near one another so the two sub-threads will not overlap. Please reply to the appropriate sub-thread ^^

Sanura's Cottage in Town

The rain was falling steadily on the ground leaving bare earth slightly muddy. Sanura's cottage sat peacefully in its spot beneath the shade of tall trees, and it would have been barely indistinguishable from another were it not for the furry bodies that lay upon the doorstep and scattered around the front of the cottage.

Grey, brown, even white rabbits all lay dead around the therianthrope's residence. Their fur was matted down due to the rain and whatever blood was present upon their small forms had been washed away during the rain storm. Of course, the ones in front of the door were only partially wet, their bodies protected from the downpour of water by the slight overhang of the roof and the direction of the rain. Their bodies were stiff from rigor mortis, but their wounds were fresh. Puncture marks that went through their entire bodies were clearly visible, and their blood (whatever was left of it) had coagulated into a gooey mess upon the soft fur.

Others were killed by a broken neck, others were partially eaten with small organs littered around its unmoving form.

"ADIO!! ADIO!! OPEN UP YOUR SODDY DOOR!!" Ever since their fight last night, Sanura knew he had come home because he was moaning about. Something about his head hurting. Since she had been feeling better about everything she wasn't going to kick him out. Just typical Adio and Sanura. But why was his door not opening? "ADIO I WILL KICK THIS DOOR DOWN!!"

She huffed, resting against the closed door before she rubbed her face and decided the serene sound of the rain pattering on the roof would be perfect to get her mind off the task of jump kicking her brothers door down. She closed her eyes on the way towards the door, oblivious on what was to lie ahead.

As she neared the door, she coughed. "Dear lord, that filth Sanura sure knew she did not have garbage lying around. If she did it did not smell that bad. The shifter opened the door and scanned her eyes around to see the field of what looked like tortured animals.

"Oh.." She said dumbly, her voice shaky as she took it all in. No, nothing to be scared about. Just animals torn to shreds with their guts all about like lawn decorations. Nope, Not nasty at all.

Then why on earth was she screaming?

In Pryce's personal opinion for today, his morning was going to go off without a hitch. He woke up from bed, had his early morning shower, prepared breakfast for himself and ate it, and then geared up in his jogging uniform to have a go outside around the pathways in between the town cottages. Pryce stepped out of his door, did some stretches, and off he went in a steady pace at first. It was a slow jog until he got where he was going, and then he would pick up the speed.

What jarred him out of his morning ritual was the sound of screaming, though. Pryce knew that when someone screamed they were in one of two positions: they were hurt, or somebody was trying to hurt them. Being a fairly tough guy meant that he could take on anyone trying to hurt someone else, and being a doctor meant he could help anyone already in pain.

So, as a result, Pryce veered off his course towards the pond and hurried in the direction of the screaming. There in one of the lawns he saw a young woman. Looking around the surroundings, Pryce saw all of the dead animal bodies littering the ground. "Jesus Christ," Pryce muttered to himself.

Hurrying over to the young woman's side, Pryce called out to her. "Ma'am!" he said, stopping in front of her. "Ma'am, are you alright? Are you hurt?" He reached out slowly to lay a hand on her shoulder. "Have you been hurt?" Alive lady first, dead animals later.

Sanura plugged her nose as she spoke, sounding like a squealing..well she didn't know what. "Eww that's so gross! I-I mean-" Her hand flung towards the dead animals then towards him as she tried to find words for the situation. "Did someone find it amusing to drop animals here like dog crap!?" She yelled, letting her fingers free from her nose so she could flail her arms about. "It's insane, it's gross and now all my clothes that are hung outside are going to smell like like animal rubbish!"

She drew a breath outwards. There was no way in hell she was going to take in the scent of death. She would rather suffocate or breathe into a paper bag. "I-I'm sorry. I am okay but I have no idea as to how the hell all these animals got here. I was out pretty late last night. Literally, they appeared out of no where." She gave the man a look of thanks and apology for her spazzing.

Pryce looked grave as he listened to her rant, gazing over his shoulder and turning slightly to witness more clearly the mess of dead animals everywhere. It was downright unsettling. He didn't consider himself a squeamish person by any means, but who killed a bunch of little animals and littered them around someone's yard? Okay, sure, kids might find a dead animal and drop it off as a sick prank, but these little buggers had been torn every which-a-way imaginable. Kids didn't do this. For some reason, Pryce didn't think it was teenagers either. Something like this should be reported.

"Well, at least you're alright," Pryce said as he faced her again. "That's the important thing. As for all of this . . . " He gestured weakly at the animals. "I think we should report this immediately. Do you have any friends or family nearby that can stay and make sure nothing is tampered with? Or maybe someone who can go to town hall and get some guards or authority over here?" Looking back at the mess, Pryce made a face and covered his nose. It was sick. There was no other word to describe it.

The morning had indeed beckoned Adrienne to go out for a run. Gorgeous weather like this couldn't be wasted, at least not in the werewolf's opinion. She had just taken a deep breath and a few good stretches to loosen up when she heard the scream. Her instincts immediately took over and she dashed off in the direction of the alarming sound without hesitation. She found the source easily and became immediately concerned that it was her friend, Sanura.

Adrienne ran up to the girl and was about to ask what was wrong when she saw the dead animals littered about the yard. She glanced up at Doctor Pryce and then back at Sanura. "Hey, are you okay?" She asked at once. The dark-haired lycan was worried that whatever or whomever had spread the dead animals around had somehow hurt Sanura as well, but as far as Adrienne could tell the therianthrope was unharmed.

She rubbed her arm comfortingly and then moved to examine one of the animals. Mangled and torn, tiny limbs missing from its body. Adrienne could smell the blood even though most of it had seeped into the ground already. She picked up a stick and used it to examine one of the rabbits.

"I'd say that an animal did this but..." she looked up at Pryce with a furrowed brow and then looked at all the other rabbits in the same area, most with similar injuries. "Well most animals don't just leave around partially eaten food." She pushed herself to stand once more and moved back to Sanura's side. "You're not hurt, are you?" Though Adrienne couldn't see any wounds on the girl, she still had to make sure that her friend was all right.

Once the other girl showed up, and Pryce recognized her from the medical pavilion during the werewolf mess, he let her examine the young woman and ask the same questions as him as he surveyed the area by wandering closer to the dead animals. It was a graveyard of half-eaten bodies and splattered messes. Most of the blood seemed to be washed away by the rain. Other were laying at odd angles as if their necks were broken, and Pryce noticed the puncture marks that wounded their bodies deeply. None of the combined evidence made sense. An animal would have eaten them raw, but only something with hands and opposable thumbs could've broken their necks.

Unsettled by the puzzling sight, Pryce made his way back over to the woman. He hadn't touched anything and didn't want to either. "Are you a friend of hers?" Pryce asked Adrienne, looking pointedly in her direction. "Would you be comfortable staying here with her while I head to the town hall building, alert the authorities, and hopefully get some people over here to examine this mess?" Pryce wanted to get straight to business.

Sanura noticed Adrienne immediately and by instinct she moved towards her direction bumping shoulders with her friend for a moment. Sje looked over at her with an uneasy face. She nodded at Pryce, unsure if it looked pathetically feverish and scared but she did not care. If he could get to the bottom of this that was all that mattered.

"We..We are friends." That made her smile and feel less uneasy. Because the way they became friends was hilarious. It took away the stank smell and it made her feel less nauseous. "She can stay here while you try and see what is going on." She assured and hoped.

She quickly looked over at Adrienne in question and whispered. "Do you have any idea what the hell this is!?"

Eying over the little dead bodies that littered the lawn, Pryce gave another shake of his head and turned to look at the two young woman. They were clearly friends and it was probably best if he didn't intrude as the new girl could most likely handle the situation with her friend much better than him. Pryce was no psychologist, and he didn't know much of anything when it came to talking down a panicked woman from a screamfest. Not that he blamed her for having one, what with all of these corpses of small animals laying around. Maybe they were small, but whatever was done here was fairly horrific.

Pryce nodded his head. "I'll go get help," he said. Someone needed to sort this mess out, and then someone most definitely had to clean it up. Leaving this around for all of the neighbors to freak out over was not a good move. Pryce wondered how any of the authorities would react to it. Since they were just small animals it wasn't a big deal, but terrorizing innocent people wasn't something some pricks should get away with. After all, animals couldn't snap other animal's necks, Pryce reminded himself.

He left the two young women and immediately jogged his way to Town Hall.

"Thanks Doctor Pryce," Adrienne said clearly remembering the man from her time spent at the medical pavilion. "I'll stay here with Sanura and make sure no one touches anything." She smiled at the doctor and watched him as he left to go toward Town Hall. Adrienne turned her attention toward Sanura and continued to rub the girl's arm in a soothing motion.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Adrienne asked in a soft voice as her eyes kept drifting over to the dead animals. She sighed deeply and then tried to tug the therianthrope back toward the house. "Let's go inside. You don't need to keep looking at this," she offered, her tone of voice easy and calming. "I'll find something to cover the bodies, okay? You just wait inside until I get back."

Adrienne waited until Sanura was inside the house before she went searching for something suitable to cover the small corpses. The werewolf settled on paper towels and went outside to cover each and every last animal that was out on her friend's lawn. It didn't take very long and within minutes Adrienne was back inside and with Sanura. She smiled at her friend and tried to think of something to do or say to distract the taller girl from the horrific scene she had just witnessed.

"Do you want any tea or anything? Or do you want to come over to my house? You know, if you didn't want to stay here with all of the animals outside I mean..."

"C'mon, let's go have tea at my house." The suggestion was there to put Sanura's mind at ease and to take her away from the gruesome sight. With Doctor Pryce already gone to tell the official what had happened Adrienne was sure that it wouldn't be a problem if Sanura left for a little bit. The werewolf took the therianthrope by the hand and walked the short distance to her own cottage. Sanura could make a statement later on to the Council members; in the meantime though Adrienne wanted the taller girl to relax and to forget about the devastating scene that was left outside her cottage.

Vienna's Forest Cottage

The forest cottages were normally peaceful, the residences were nestled in the safe arms of Elven trees. Hundreds of years old and had they mouths they would speak of the things they had seen in their lifetime. But never had they witnessed such an oddity as the littering of dead woodland creatures in front of a single cottage.

Squirrels, rabbits, and even birds did not find mercy at the hands of whatever had stolen their small lives. Broken necks, torn limbs, blood and sinew covering their bodies and the grass surrounding them. Puncture wounds and half eaten victims were left upon the doorstep and the walkway, in the bushes underneath windows and some in the flower beds. Blood splattered upon the last remaining petals of the last blooming flowers of the season.

Most of the crimson substance had been washed away by the rain, but the smell of death still lingered in the air.

Vienna's eyes somewhat twitched in movement of the rain as it sprinkled gently on her rooftop. Her desire was for her to go back to sleep, her eyes half closing and her knees drawing towards her chest to try to fight her urge to get up. But once her eyes opened it was clear that she wanted to watch the rain fall from her rooftop.

The Psychometric slid out of bed and reached for her robe, gliding it on as a yawn escaped from her mouth. Her eyes were blurred still from her state of awakening. Slowly, she opened her door and stepped out.

Vienna watched the beads of rain fall from the sky and reached out a hand to gather some in her palms, feeling the water collect in the various cracks before she turned over her hand the let the water go. It felt like such a perfect start to the morning....

Vienna then tossed her head back when she caught an awful stench. By nature her nose nearly went before her eyes. What was it? It reminded her of road kill. First she saw the blood stained pedals which somewhat broke her heart because she adored the flowers. She shook her head in shame towards herself. There was blood on the pedals.

Her eyes scanned around and she hugged the robe tighter around herself in slight discomfort when suddenly she felt as if she was going to to vomit. It wasn't just the stench that now nearly took hold of her nose, it was the sight of scattered animals, or rather what was left of them. Vienna put a hand over her mouth and looked about to see if anyone was around.

"What? You've never seen dead animals before?" Lucretia let a frost like gaze fall on the distorted animal. "Shame. But we all need to eat don't we? That's just the cycle of life." She walked towards the strewn about creatures, not one sign of sickness showing on her face when the scent of their death grew closer. "They sure didn't go out easy."

Lucretia found a stick and knelt down by one of the animals, pushing it a bit to gaze at a puncture wound. "Well, whatever ate this one up, must have thought it was delicious. Puncture wounds are pretty deep and intense." She explained. "Felt it. For sure."

Of course the witch did not think kindly about the feelings of the stranger as she she said this out loud. She just went back to her old ways of examining dead things. Normally it was humans, but this caught her eye. Maybe there was a devious streak in her longed to see this woman's reaction to her lack of compassion.

Vienna looked slowly over at the woman, the hand that was clasped over her mouth now moved over to her hip. Her frightened look was now that of slight annoyance at the woman's lack of compassion. She didn't expect the woman to be sympathetic or to pray for the animals, but she seemed to enjoy Vienna's disgust in the littering of the poor creators sprawled about on her yard.

"If you wouldn't mind. I would like to be spared of the details." She asked kindly. The woman was right in the face of the creatures. How she managed to do so? Vienna didn't want to know. "Please. maybe we should go and see if someone heard anything. I sleep like a dead woman." She said shakily, trying to laugh a bit though she was tense. all of this was making her so nervous. Granted, she would try and touch the blood if she had to. But if she had to touch a dead animal, she would probably be sick for days.

"This seems even more cruel than an animal."

Lucretia let out an amused hum. "Ah, I figured you would request me to simply say they didn't go out well." She steadied herself on her feet and held her elbows with her hands. "Well, there are 'animals' of all sorts here so to say. They can't simply just have one place to eat." The woman couldn't help herself really. "Looks like your cottage area happened to look like the local diner." She put her hands out innocently. "Truth be told. Shit happens. And it happened right at your house. Now that it happened, we just have to work from there."

The woman glanced around curiously. She didn't see any residents out. "My guess is either they don't wish to come out because of the odor. Either that or they figure since we are out we are trying to figure it out. Of course then there is the other option that they are unaware and are still sleeping. You and I just happened to be the unlucky ones." She let a rather amused expression climb on her face. "Just you and me."

It was a truly rare thing for Rion to wake up late. He normally didn’t even have to use an alarm clock he was always up with the sun. Today was an exception to that biological rule for God only knew why. He stumbled out of bed to full daylight even if it was shrouded by the remnants of dissipating rain clouds. He washed his face in a quick attempt to shake sleep from his still weary body. What had gotten into him? Perhaps he was getting sick, he thought.

He scarfed down an apple and threw his satchel over his shoulder at the same time he tried to maintain his balance as he hobbled into his shoes and out the door. What a mess he was, and his mind was still foggy from sleep. He shook his head as he locked the door behind him. How on earth did he expect to finish the bakery sign by noon? Especially when he still had all those ornate details left to do.

He stretched as he stepped off of the front porch of his cottage. He yawned and pulled his hair back in a loose hanging pony tail. If only there was some way for him to transform without having to lose his clothes. He could make it to work four times faster without these cumbersome human legs. He made his way across the tree spattered lawn of the forest, passing by several other cottages on his way to the road before an awful smell curled into his nostrils.

He wrinkled his nose in disgust, as the smell tugged at the apple in the pit of his stomach. He mumbled a curse in Ukranian and put the back of his hand to his face. The close he got the main road the worse it was until it finally overpowered him and he heard the sound of voices. He did not carry within him the instincts and animal characteristics of his Therian form like werewolves did but he at times he felt more deer than human. He’d never liked meat, especially not decaying meat.

He rounded the side of a cottage and came upon the whole grisly scene. He knew the face of the girl who lived in the cottage and the girl standing next to her but he did not know their names. Of all mornings, when he was already late he had to come upon this. He approached the two of them, taking his hand away from his face. “What has happened here?” His accent was showed up stronger than usual in his disgusted tone.
