What: The Autumnal Festival!

The happy sounds of the autumnal festival were ringing throughout all of Elysium even before the sun sank beneath the horizon. The hard work the fauns had put into the celebration was evident by the elaborate decoration and set-up of the grounds. Wooden lamp posts lit with colored flames littered the festival while garlands of flowers wrapped themselves around each post, adding to the earthy beauty of the entire scene. Each attendee was greeted with their choice of a garland of flowers for their head, neck, or wrist if they desired one (or more, for some).

Upon entering the grounds enchanted colored leaves fall from the sky and then back up again very slowly from the flora littered ground to create a more autumn-like atmosphere. The curious insects known as fairies were also in attendance due to all of the lights, the bright and happy colors attracting their attention while their prismatic bodies blinked in and out of sight like lightning bugs and little dust fell from their minuscule wings. The bonfires too added warmth to the cool night air and brought comfort to everyone who had come out to celebrate the changing of the seasons and the continuation of life.

What festival would be complete without fun and games, though?

The fauns, along with the centaurs, had set up an archery range at the eastern end of the grounds, along with areas for knife throwing and a ring for wrestling with a minotaur. "Care to try your luck?" read the signs posted in that area for all who ventured that way. The northern end of the grounds, near the saltwater lake, was also bustling with activity with the ale drinking and Lembas bread eating contests. The rowdiness of the crowds, however, did not take away from the good-natured atmosphere of the food and drink area nearby where many people were seated upon soft grasses of the earth.

The contests did not interrupt the music and the dancing either, both of which were only a few feet away. The musical fauns, with their pipes and flutes and drums, played with fervor and enticed the attendees to dance and sing joyously. Their music permeated throughout the entire festival and many, especially children, were invited to play along with flutes and drums that were handed out as they arrived. Music was a central theme to many of the faun’s festive activities throughout the year, the autumn festival being no exception, as was the dancing and the feasting upon delicious foods and decadent drinks laid out across the grounds.

The southern part of the festival held the games geared toward the young or simply the young at heart. Barrels were available for those who wished to roll down hills, piles of leaves were created for those who wanted nothing more than to jump and play in them. Colored sparklers were handed out freely and there were even pegasus rides for anyone who wanted to soar through the skies. There were contests here as well, simple ones that had participants bobbing for apples and fruits and curious prizes, searching for toys in piles of hay, and even pinning horns on a wooden faun.

As fairies danced their way through the crowds to spread the joy of the festival, fireworks explode into the night sky. The magical light show added to the overall joyous atmosphere of the first festival in the safe haven of Elysium.

As per usual for the dynamic duo of mischief, which was sometimes a trio whenever the two of them talked Zach into joining in their escapades, Loki and Nico arrived on the festival grounds together and ready for some action. The innocent partying kind of action, of course, since this wasn't one of those types of parties that the two of them were used to attending in the past. And especially back in California! Man, those were some rockin' parties with beautiful babes. Loki's gaze strayed towards a cute brunette that walked by and nudged Nico's arm to get his friend to look at her. The two of them nodded in smooth approval of her looks.

Zach was around here somewhere. Probably on the arm of his girlfriend, Adrienne. They would've gotten him to show up with him and hang out to do cool guy stuff, but it was likely that Zach decided a romantic carriage ride with Adrienne was the way he wanted to spend this evening. Or whatever it was the two of them planned to do. Definitely something romantic. Romantic in that cutesy-wootsy way that reminded Loki of Disney princess movies. Which was not to say that Disney princess movies weren't cool, because Loki really liked those things. Belle was hot for a cartoon.

"Hey, Nico, do you remember that time when I put glow sticks all over meself?" Loki asked with a goofy grin. He made his way over to the fauns passing out garlands and snagged various floral bands for his wrists and began to roll them on until he had four or five for each arm. "Look, man, look!" he called out, turning back to Nico. Loki held up his forearms in front of himself and pumped them up and down in a manly fashion after they had been covered in floral garlands. "FLOWER POWER!" Loki yelled. "Whooo!"

The muse accepted three more for his head and placed them strategically in messy positions. Only a dude as crazy, and as okay with flowers, as Loki could've pulled off the look. After all, this was normal behavior for him. Right after he had decorated himself in flowers, someone both of them knew bounded over in a skip-hop motion.

"Hello, guys!" Alicia greeted them, stopping beside Nico and leaning against his side with crossed arms. "I see Loki is covered in flowers. Nothing new there." She turned her head to look at Nico beside her. "What's crackin', mack?"

"Hey, Alicia!" Loki called, hurrying back over to the two of them. He held out a crown of flowers and placed them on Alicia's head. "One crown for our little princess," the muse announced with a grin. Alicia laughed and tipped her head in thanks. "Aww, thank you," she said. "That's very sweet." Reaching out her hand, she patted Loki on the head. "Where's Zach?" she asked. "With Adrienne, huh? Mom and Dad are around here somewhere. Grandma is out and about, too, I bet."

The parties back in California were always the non-innocent kind, at least the ones that Nico had dragged Loki to. Not that the muse minded in the least since he always seemed to have a blast at them. Nico couldn't drag Zach to the parties - he never really liked them as much anyway. No doubt the alchemist would have left early anyway. But not Loki - no way in hell would he have left early. There were times when they were the last two guys at the party, dancing and flirting with all of the chicks that stayed till the end as well.

But tonight was all about the fun, innocent type of partying. The kind where families could gather and talk and laugh and have a good time all around. Nico liked these kind of parties , too. They were wholesome fun and always had a lot more activities to do, other than dancing and drinking that is. This was definitely more Zach's scene and he no doubt brought Adrienne along with him.

Nico didn't have a problem with Adrienne. He actually liked her a lot and the two of them had gotten to be better friends since they left school. But it seemed as if guy time between him and Zach was cut in half since a lot of Zach's time was spent with Adrienne. He wasn't jealous, but he did miss hanging out with his friend. He shrugged off the thought though and laughed at Loki with all of the flower bracelets. Inspired by Loki, Nico grabbed a handful of flower crowns and placed them on his head.

"Flower squad! Let's move out!" Nico pointed straight ahead into the festival and had barely taken a few steps when they were sidetracked by Alicia. Nico smiled at Zach's younger sister and placed a garland on her head after Loki had already done so.

"M'lady," he said in his best English accent, which wasn't very good at all. He laughed as Alicia played along with their gestures and grinned.

"You know Zach is with Adrienne," he said with a dramatic roll of his eyes. "He probably set up something romantic for them. All their sweetness is going to give me a toothache." Nico made a face and laughed again as he glanced around the festival grounds. There were so many things to do that it was hard to choose where to go first. In the end, Nico decided on the archery ranges.

"Let's go shoot some arrows," Nico said as he cracked his knuckles. Oh yeah, he was going to show his skill in archery. Or better yet, lack thereof. But hey, it was all to have fun and that was all that really mattered.

"Zach is definitely with Adrienne," Alicia announced loudly and dramatically, pretending to faint like they did in old fashioned movies by putting the back of her forearm to her head and tilting backwards. She stood up again quickly. "I heard he ordered her a carriage or something. Like, a carriage ride from her cottage to the festival." Alicia scrunched her nose. "Please suffocate any guy who does that to me with a pillow."

"Arrows sounds good to me!" Alicia said happily. "As long as I don't get shot in the butt. Because that's never fun. But I won't promise not to do it to other people," she added mischievously with an evil twinkle in her eyes. "Okay, who's ready to go! Are you ready, Loki?"

Loki nodded in agreement. "To the archery range!" he concurred.

Now that Echo had run off and started to enjoy the sights of the festival, Emily felt quite alone. She tried desperately not to give into the urge to cross her arms over her stomach and drifted towards the food and drinks area. Dancing would come later, if her daughter wanted to do that with her, or she found someone willing enough.

She decided that she'd have a cup of tropically orange juice, and sipped it as she watched the fauns play their instruments. There was no reason for her not to enjoy herself. Parents were supposed to want time away from their children, not being as clingy as Emily was. Her father's words suddenly came back to her: "You've given a lot more than you've taken, sweet pea. Do something for yourself." That was all the motivation she needed to finish her drink and walk closer to the people who were dancing before she started to move.

Someone met her gaze as they danced and Emily gave them a small smile before twirling, then attempting to copy the jig that a couple of men were doing. It only took a minute before she really started to get into the dancing, and a woman actually joined her with a similar jig! This was too much fun. Emily laughed as the woman's footwork turned into something complicated and clapped in approval. Having fun isn't too hard, see? a voice similar to her best friend Beth said in her mind. Emily grinned in the direction of her fellow dancers and twirled again. Maybe she would let herself loosen up.

Malcolm had arrived at the festival along with Elspeth and Fiona. Ide hadn't felt like attending, which hadn't surprised Malcolm in the least. His sisters hadn't been much more excited about attending, but they had agreed once they realized Malcolm wouldn't leave them alone if they didn't.

Not that this was the sort of get-together Malcolm normally attended. But he had his reasons. He wanted to get to know the other residents of Elysium and this would be the biggest gathering. He also wanted to speak with the Fauns. And then... There was her. One of his big reasons for attending. She was twirling and dancing amongst the other revelers. Malcolm smiled as he watched Emily.

"Oi there!" Elspeth poked Malcolm in the back irritably. She shared an annoyed look with Fiona. "Why you standing there all slack-jawed?"

"I... Uh..." Malcolm cleared his throat. "It's... Nothing...." He adjusted his tie. "I just... Saw someone I know." He watched Emily, the smile on his face growing.

It was when she turned during her dance away from the musicians that Emily saw Malcolm with... two other women? He hadn't mentioned anything about them, but then their conversation hadn't touched upon his love life, per se. She stopped dancing and started to walk towards them, wondering which one of them was his girlfriend. Honestly, why did she care? It wasn't any of her business, really.

Emily put on a brave face and decided to pull an Echo. "Hello, Malcolm!" she said in the most cheerful tone she could muster. Now, to introduce herself. "I'm Emily Planck, Malcolm's neighbor. It is very nice to meet you." She brushed a couple strands of hair out of her face and wiped her forehead free from beads of sweat. "The music's great, isn't it? I didn't know it would be this addicting to dance to it. Huh, turned out it was easier to copy her daughter's attitude than she realised.

"Are you going to look around?" It would be much more pleasant to go around with someone she knew, but she hated to impose on his time with the two women. Her original shyness returned, but she managed to hide it well by keeping the smile on her face and clasping her hands in front of her. She disliked not knowing what to do with her hands and for some reason, she had dfficulty doing so now.

Adrienne's note to Zach about the festival had wound up in his hands earlier that day. Zach wanted to surprise her somehow, so he didn't answer her right away. Instead, an idea hit him and he headed into the market place to get a bracelet and a garland of flowers out of the fauns for Adrienne that evening. Arriving at her cottage shortly before the festival began, Zach greeted her by placing the crown of flowers on her head. "This goes here," he said, smiling as he gently adjusted the crown. Next, he slipped the bracelet onto her wrist. "And this goes here," Zach told her quietly, eyes still glittering.

He kissed her, taking her by the hand and leading her towards the carriage that was parked outside of her cottage. Another surprise he had arranged while in the market place that day. While most people had to walk towards where the carriages were leaving for the festival grounds, Zach had brought one of them straight to her door. The seats were comfortable and made of thick, fluffy cushions that sunk in deeply. Zach wrapped his arms around her from behind once they were settled in the back and the driver had taken off. "I hope you like it," Zach whispered into her ear, gently dragging his fingers through her hair.

Once they were there, he helped Adrienne down from the carriage and kept his fingers laced with hers for a moment. "What would you like to do?" Zach asked Adrienne, right as one of the pesky fairies from above swooped down and danced around his head. Zach shooed it away, an urge to sneeze almost overcoming him. His hand rose to cover his mouth, fingers briefly pinching his nose shut as he released Adrienne's hand and waved the other in front of his face to get the dust away from him.

"I think I'm allergic to those damn things," he laughed. "Augh." Zach shook his head. "Okay, where were we before the insects attacked? Oh, right," he added with a mischievous grin. "We're here at a party, and it's your choice what we do first." He placed his hands on her hips and moved in closer. "Sooo," Zach drawled, "what'll it be?"

Zach had indeed surprised Adrienne when he arrived at her door. She hadn't expected him in the least since she didn't get a reply to her note. In actuality she assumed that either Nico or Loki had taken the message first and had done away with it, and that Zach didn't even get the note. But he had and had apparently planned an entire romantic evening for the two of them.

She smiled sweetly at him as he placed the crown of flowers upon her head and the garland around her wrist. They matched perfectly with the outfit she decided to wear. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was better than jeans and a tee-shirt. "Oh Zach," she said wistfully. She had a sudden urge to giggle like a giddy school girl but she held it back. "They're beautiful," she added just before their lips touched for a kiss. Adrienne's heart fluttered in her chest as he took her toward the carriage that was parked nearby. She felt like a princess and that feeling caused her cheeks to turn a deeper shade of pink. No one had ever made Adrienne felt that way... ever and here she was riding in a carriage with...

She glanced over at Zach after he whispered in her ear and nodded. "I love it... this is.. wonderful." She kissed him once more, this time lingering longer than usual and allowing herself to sink into it completely. It would be several minutes before they got to the festival and it was the perfect time to be kissing him.

The festival itself was already busy with attendees and Adrienne couldn't help but smile at the sights before her. Even the fairies made her laugh especially when Zach said he was allergic to them. She dusted off the fairy's dust from his hair and shoulders and then allowed him to pull her closer. Adrienne swallowed slowly and pulled her lower lip in between her teeth.

"Mmmm, I think..." she said slowly, deliberately taking her time as she pressed a little bit closer. "We should eat because I'm starving!" She smirked at him before she moved in for yet another kiss.

In actuality, Loki and Nico had taped the note onto his door once they did find it. It was surrounded with cut-out, colorful paper flowers and hearts, presumably additions by Loki, also taped onto his door all around the note. Zach spent a good amount of time carefully removing the decorations piece by piece before he could get the note itself off of his door. At least they spared him anything mean or annoying. Zach found himself laughing when he saw his door, knowing the note had been from Adrienne and the rest were special touches from his friends.

"You look beautiful with flowers on you," Zach said after their kiss, fingers grazing her hair before they fell to take her hand. He grinned, pulling her along. "Why do flowers always look so good on girls?" Flowers were very feminine. Maybe that was why. Soft and colorful and delicate in their looks, much like girls.

The carriage wasn't one of those purposeful cheesy things like they did in movies. All they had were carriages and horses here, so Zach planned it all without much thought to how it would look. The impression he hoped to give to Adrienne was the same as his intention: he just wanted to make her happy, and to make her smile in that sweet, blushing way of hers whenever he surprised her. The flush on her cheeks told him maybe he was halfway there.

Settled in the carriage, he had wrapped his arms around her to feel her close. He wasn't always so clingy like he was the last two days. It was just that they had refrained for so long that he kept prolonged contact with her now, always wanting to be touching her or holding her. They kissed each other in the carriage until they finally arrived at the festival. Reluctantly, the both of them pulled away so they could exit the carriage and enter the bustling crowds.

Zach bit his lip humorously as Adrienne dusted the fairy stuff off of his shoulders and out of his hair. "Allergic to fairies, huh? I learn something new everyday." He laughed as he pulled her closer. "Looks like I have to stay away from those pesky bugs. Not that I mind. I heard they bite," he said, his voice growing quieter as he drew towards her ear and playfully took her ear lobe into his mouth to gently bite down on it.

He pulled back to look at Adrienne's face, waiting for her suggestion on what they should do first. Adrienne drew it out as if she needed some time to think about it before she finally replied. Zach almost laughed as she smirked and leaned in to kiss him again. "Hmm, let's get something to eat, then," he said. "Food sounds really good right about now, and it is dinner time." Zach began to walk her towards the area where tables of food were set out. He hoped there were all sorts of things set out in interesting designs and tiers. Picking apart food that was put together in a fancy manner was always fun.

After a little persuasion on Echo's part, she finally managed to get Emily to take her to the Autumn festival. She was sure Loki was going to be there, and possibly Mitsuko and Alicia - the latter whom she wanted to meet. The first problem was that she had nothing seriously sexy to wear. She finally decided on an outfit and the Plancks finally set off for Helicharis. Echo brimmed with excitement and for once, wasn't talking her mother's ear off as they walked because she hoped there might be at least one cute boy there. If not, she could always spend time with Geoffrey the centaur, who was so beautiful he made her stomach do rumba dances.

Emily viewed the silence as something worrying. "Are you all right? If you're feeling sick, I'll take you home for some tea," she said. She didn't want to go to this thing in town as the two people she'd actually met probably wouldn't be around and she hardly felt like being very outgoing tonight. She was only going to keep an eye on Echo and to make her happy, but chances were that she decided to go home early. She wouldn't know what to say to people.

There was no chance of her mother finding a little excuse to back out of this and Echo wanted to make that clear. For the life of her, she had no idea why she was so outgoing when Emily was clearly not. Then again, Emily had said that if she treated everyone like a potential friend, chances were they would become one. "No, I'm fine! I was just thinking of who was going to be there," said Echo in an energetic rush, on purpose so her mother'd think everything was back to normal.

"Do you remember seeing the dark haired centaur teaching me Archery?" Echo asked. "Well, he's Geoffrey and he's so incredibly good at archery and he has two brothers named Bacchus and Aidan. They said that they were helping the fauns move things and would hang out near the eating content so I know where to find them. His brothers are really nice, too! Bacchus loves telling jokes and Aidan's really serious but secretly a romantic because whenever he talks about his girlfriend who's not there, it's very poetic. Geoffrey has a centaur girlfriend too and she's gorgeous! Good at archery too." The centaur had said that he would keep an eye on her at the festival - was Echo doomed to befriend watchers instead of friends? It wasn't as though she was going to get into any serious trouble.

Relieved that her little girl wasn't sick, Emily listened to Echo's speech. "I'm glad they're a good bunch of people," she said. "And I have no doubt that you'll introduce me to them some time this evening." Maybe, just this once, she needed to give her daughter a bit of freedom. Elysium was a safe place and on the whole, she assumed people were as friendly as the ones they'd met. "How about, when we get there, we'll say we meet back at the entrance after a couple of hours?"

Her mother did not just say that. Echo blinked. She DID! But they always went around festivals together! What had changed? "All right. I'll be really careful and all that." The festival grounds appeared on the horizon and she started to pick up her pace. This would be too much fun! When they were near the entrance, Echo gaped at the colored lights and then refocused as she was given a garland of flowers for her wrist. Emily opted for one around her neck, as it felt more exotic. Thanking the person, Echo rushed on ahead to the archery grounds, where she waved to a busy-looking Geoffrey. She then took a bow and her first arrow.

At the sprite's insistence of heading over to the archery range to shoot some arrows, Loki offered his arm to Alicia. "Shall we go, m'lady?" Alicia laughed and linked arms with her friend.

"Yes, we shall," she answered Loki. "But only under the condition that we skip the whole way there like in The Wizard of Oz. Ready, set, go!" Alicia called out, beginning to skip her way towards the archery range with Loki in arm. Loki, entirely still sober without a drink in his body yet, skipped along with Alicia's footsteps behind their friend Nico. Shooting some arrows sounded like fun for everyone in the group, even if their arrows didn't hit the marks and landed somewhere in one of the other games nearby.

Alicia broke off from Loki's arm and ran ahead to snag one of the bows and slings of arrows. "Hey, they have slings of arrows!" Alicia yelled to the other two as she pulled the strap over her head and positioned the sling on her back.

Loki picked up one of the bows and plucked at its string a few times, listening to it twang over and over again. "How can you tell if a bow is good?" Loki asked no one in particular. That's when he looked around and spotted Echo not but a few feet away on one of the target rows. "'Ello, Echo!" Loki shouted with a grin, waving at her. He put down the bow and headed over, adjusting the crowns on his head as it tried to fly away. Yep, still covered in flowers and looking like he just came back from a seriously long vacation in Hawaii.

"Ooh," Loki began, "two o' my friends are here I want you to meet!" Turning around to call out for his friends, Loki hollered their names. "Alicia! Nico! Hey, come over! There's someone here I want you to meet!" Alicia's arrow twanged unceremoniously and fell with a weak swoop to the ground. Without bothering to pick it up, she hurried over with a sling of arrows on her back and the bow still in her hand. "Hi!" Alicia said, waving at Echo. "I'm Alicia," she said, extending her hand with a bright smile.

Echo ran what she remembered from Geoffrey's lesson through her mind as she set up the arrow and pulled back the string, letting the arrow fly...for about five feet before it stuck, defeated, in the earth. Well, shoot. She furrowed her brow and frowned before she heard her name called. It was Loki! Unfortunately, her mother wasn't with her, but Echo still liked his company enough to not worry about that for the moment. "Hi, Loki!" she answered loudly, grinning as he walked closer and she could see his flower crowns. "You look very pretty," she teased. Oh, he wanted her to meet friends? She felt so popular already.

Alicia! From what Loki told her of the girl, she sounded like the perfect companion to Echo's energetic self. "Okay!" She saw that a dark haired Asian girl and a guy headed towards them and waved back at Alicia. "I'm Echo," she said and shook her hand gently. "It's really nice to meet you; I've heard great things from Loki. You should come with me to the forest again. It's so pretty there and the trees are perfect for climbing or even making a treehouse! I've always wanted one of those, but I don't have the building skills for it... but it turns out that one of my neighbors is a carpenter and maybe he'll help if he has free time. How does that sound?" After that speech, Echo took a breath of air and realised she hadn't even paid attention to the other friend of Loki's yet.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to ignore--" It was then that she met Nico's eyes and lost coherency for just a minute. His eyes, no, his smile... gah, his shoulders! Echo might have continued to melt into a fawning puddle, except her eyes happened to flick back to Alicia and regained speech. "It's nice to meet you, Nico." She dared to look back at him, but more in the area of his neck so she wouldn't be lost in his eyes again. "Are you doing some archery too?" Her tendency to ramble completely left her at this point. "I know some pointers, but I'm not strong enough so the arrows don't go anywhere."

She grinned at Alicia. "The centaur who taught me is very good at it. He says that archery is almost formal because every part of your body has to be straight and in control. I'm still going to practice, though, because it's lots of fun. I wonder if they do other things here, like javelin throwing or talent contests - Oh!" She suddenly remembered something very important. "Loki, my mom's almost done with two tablecloths and she really wants to show them to you. Maybe she can on Sunday, if you're free then for my dinner party." She looked at Alicia and Nico with a smile. "Would you like to come over for dinner? I'm cooking! And we can play lots of games, card games, charades, you name it!"

The elder alchemist, though a bit old in age, was not old at heart. If a get together for all of the people with wine and ale available came to town, you could be damn sure she was gonna be there with the crowd and enjoying it, too. Adam tried to talk her out of the drinking part earlier without avail, even said she was getting too old for that stuff. Too old to drink? Pssh, there was no such thing as "too old to drink." Adam might say that because he was worried about her, but she was going to have fun and that was that. A festival was a festival, and the lights were glowing and the ale flowing - literally - from the barrels as people drank the dark alcoholic beverage pouring out of them.

Constance arrived wearing simple jeans and an over-sized traditional Native American beige-colored top. A three-leveled necklace made of carved and etched stones wrapped around her neck like a loose choker. In her hair were two strings of different colored beads on each side. One of the strings was adorned with a white feather, which fluttered in the soft breeze. Her destination lay in the northern grounds of the festival area. None of her family were lingering around this area, which made her very, very thankful. Besides, she'd never hear the end of it from them if they knew what she was about to do.

She'd probably never hear the end of it after they heard that she did it, but Constance would deal with that when it came. By telling them to shut up. No one old Constance what to do. Except for her mother and her grandmothers, but her mother and grandmothers - bless their resting spirits - passed away a long, long time ago. Knowing them, Constance could imagine them cheering her on as she went for the winning title.

The winning title in the alchemist's mind? Ale drinking contests. They took place on the northern end of the grounds closer to the saltwater lake and away from the more innocent games. Here, Constance decided to make her mark. She held up one of her arms and hollered out, "Hold me a place at one of those barrels! I'm joining in!" The nearby crowd roared with cheers for the new applicant, none other than one of the Head Council members of Elysium. Constance, none too shabby thanks to her high tolerance for alcohol and flattered by the cheers, threw up both of her arms and encouraged the noise as she made her way over to the ale barrel reserved for her. Now, this was her kind of treat.

By the sixteenth round, Constance surpassed all of the others, even the stout dwarf who had been giving her a run for her money. With a shirt nearly doused in ale, Constance stood up on the small wooden stage erected for the ale barrels and the drinking contest on the end where her barrel was positioned. She held up her winning prize: an ornate pewter beer stein handmade by the dwarves. The crowd cheered loudly for the winner.

Now, this was what Constance called a festival.

The barbecue from earlier that day was just the appetizer for what was going to be a great night. The whole town was talking about the festival and about how the fauns always throw a great party, and Zane hadn't been to a party or festival in who knows how long. He had taken a nap - he had to after all the food he ate - and then showered to get ready. Not that he had a lot to do to get ready, but he liked to be prepared.

When Amada was ready to leave, Zane offered her his arm and lead her outside of their bungalow. "You look amazing, you know that right?" He said as he lifted her hand to his lips and pressed a soft kiss on her skin. "You sure you wanna be seen with a bum like me?" Zane looked down at his outfit - a pair of black slacks and a white tee-shirt underneath a purple button-down shirt - which was casual for the doctor. "I'm gonna have to keep a close eye on you otherwise one of those fauns might try to steal you away." He chuckled and looked up in time to see the carriage arriving. He had arranged for it to come to the bungalows to pick them up and the driver was right on time.

"Remember the last time we took a carriage ride?" He asked softly as he placed an arm around her shoulders. There was a little smirk on his face and a twinkle in his eyes to see if his girlfriend would remember. The carriage began to make its way to the festival grounds, and already the couple could see the fireworks shooting off in the distance. It was a beautiful display of reds, oranges, yellows, and greens, all of which were exploding into various designs. They weren't like the ones back home, simple fountain shaped ones; no, the ones here ranged from simple to complex designs of flowers and mythical creatures. No doubt the result of magic, but hey Zane wasn't going to complain about that.

Choosing what to wear had take up most of Amada's day. She'd taken a quick nap, snuggled up beside Zane for a few hours before she'd risen to duck into the shower and get ready. Her dark hair was left down and loose around her shoulders for the night, blown into straight, sleek layers; her make-up was light...a dusting of eyeshadow, some mascara, a bit of lip gloss - nothing too overdone. She chose a simple, somewhat casual dress
and a pair of nude wedge sandals for the night.

Once she was set, she wandered out to meet Zane so they could head towards the festival happenings. Linking her arm through his, she followed him outside, an amused smile gracing her lips as his brushed across her knuckles. "I think you look pretty good for a bum," she assured him with a playful wink, glancing up just as their carriage arrived. She stepped up and made room for him to join her, leaning against him as his arm settled around her shoulders. Tonight had all the makings of being their first truly wonderful evening in Elysium.

"Of course I remember!" she elbowed him playfully as if offended that he would think she'd forget. "It isn't everyday a girl forgets moving into an apartment with a view," she teased with a little smirk. Fireworks exploded overhead and Amada turned to glance up at them, her head resting against her boyfriend's shoulder.

"Tonight's going to be good," she glanced up at him, head tilted back just slightly with a smile. Things were starting to look up.

"Just making sure you remember," Zane said playfully as he leaned in to kiss her cheek. He thought back to their time back in New York. They were happy in their apartment - "domesticated bliss" as his youngest sister would say. But Zane didn't mind, not as long as he had Amada with him. He interlaced his fingers with hers and held it in his lap.

"So I hear these fauns are some wild party animals," Zane said with a chuckle. "I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that they are part animal. Though I never thought of a goat as being a party type of animal." He laughed a little bit harder as his eyes looked up at the fireworks in the sky.

"It almost seems surreal, doesn't it? Like, I never thought in my entire life that a place like this could exist." His brown eyes gazed over at Amada and he rested his forehead against hers. It was rare that Zane got into his introspective moods, but for the first time in a long time, the metahuman felt as if things were actually going to turn out all right in the end. Amada was his good luck charm, after all, and he could do anything with her around.

"Hey... I need to ask you something..." he said softly as the carriage traveled down the path toward the festival. The sounds of singing and music and people laughing were resounding through the air. It was indeed going to be a good night.

Irei picked his way through the sand that changed to dirt as he made his way towards the Festival grounds from the freshwater lake with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He had taken a third beer from this morning/noon meal with Zane and Amada. They were a really nice couple. They were truly very nice. Irei hadn't come across too many people like that in his life as of yet.

He took a drag from his cigarette and followed the carriages that seemed to know where they were going. If it hadn't been for them Irei probably would have gotten lost on the way there because his sense of direction is a little lacking. Plus, the ever present ringing in his ears was constantly distracting him, or trying to anyways. That was one of the reasons he liked being around people. Noise, especially of people, tended to drown out the other voices.

He arrived at the festival when the fireworks were starting and he looked up at the amazing colors and designs appreciatively as he sipped on the beer. That comfortable buzz he had developed from this morning's beers had long sense worn off, but if there were any place to build up a new one, it would be at the festival.

He looked around and counted the amount of couples there seemed to be. He shook his head and finished off the beer he had brought with him and decided to wander around the festival grounds.

After Emily finished talking to Malcolm and they parted ways, she still had time before she met her daughter. She decided to stay away from the food table in case she had the urge to stuff her face. Why was it that she still missed her father and Beth? She had a couple of new friends here and no doubt more were to come if Echo had anything to do about it. She avoided the archery place, but that wasn't much of her thing anyway, and moved onwards to the games area. It was childish, but she loved watching people bobbing for apples and whatnot.

She watched the apple-bobbers for a while before walking to collect a colored sparkler. Oh, she hadn't had one of these in ages and it was much too fun to wave them around to watch the trails of lights they produced. In fact, she liked them so much, after she finished the first one, Emily had to get another. Odd how she acted less mature when her daughter wasn't around.

The second sparkler burned a fifth of the way down the stick and Emily walked down the road, noticing a man sauntering towards her with a beer in his hand. Normally she wouldn't have paid attention to the passersby, but having a sparkler in her hand changed things. She gave him a small smile and then turned away slightly to look at a couple of fauns walking by, carrying some boxes of who knows what. It was just her being friendly, not anything else... right?

Irei finished his cigarette and found a place to dispose of the butt without throwing it on the ground. When living with a hippie, one starts to pick up habits such as making sure all your non-recyclable trash is thrown away in the proper place. That is if you didn't want a earful later when the said hippie finds the hapless rubbish in the wrong spot.

He took another sip of his beer when he spotted the pretty young blond woman playing with the sparklers looking at him. She was smiling. Irei was normally pretty shy around other people period, but the combination of alcohol and atmosphere caused him to be a bit more bold. He smiled back and walked over to her to introduce himself. That's what this party seemed to be about, right? Getting to know everyone.

"Hi, my name is Irei Arakaki. You seem to be having a lot of fun with the sparklers." He picked up one of the sparklers for himself and lit it with her sparkler that was already half burnt away. "Looks like a fun party."

Mitsuko arrived at the festival fashionably late, as was her style. She liked to make an entrance. Knowing this was a far more innocent party than she was used to, she decided to dress cute as opposed to sexy-- in a cream-coloured dress with a grey jacket. Her long, dark hair was swept up, pink flowers decorating it.

It had been a long time since there had been anything to celebrate. A party was just what everyone needed. It would also be a good way to get to know everyone in town. On this sort of occasion, Mitsuko would normally be on the prowl, trying to find some gullible person to rob. But she didn't feel like that today. Maybe it had been too long and she was out of practice. But these people were going to be her neighbors for a long time now. The last thing she wanted to do was isolate herself because she couldn't keep her sticky fingers under control.

She hoped she would run into Adrienne. Perhaps she could finally meet her boyfriend Zach. Or the infamous Nico. And-- Mitsuko's stomach flip-flopped-- Loki. The thoughts she had about him hadn't abated after their meeting the day previous. In fact, their little frolic at the lake had just confirmed that fact that she had feelings for the Muse. Perhaps it was time for her to make an honest go at a relationship.

But most of all, she just wanted people to be around. She had been painfully lonely during the duration of the war. She wanted to have friends again and to just have fun.

"Hey Mitsuko!" Adrienne called out from across the lawn. The werewolf had spotted the fox after she and Zach had finished eating their food. She grabbed onto her boyfriend's hand and pulled him toward Mitsuko, anxious to talk to her new friend and to introduce the kitsune to Zach. Adrienne was all smiles when she reached Mitsuko.

"I'm so glad you came," she said sincerely. Her hand reached up to brush her hair out of her face while her other hand squeezed Zach's hand gently just because she liked to hold him. "Oh I love your dress," she said finally noticing the fox's outfit. The fact was Adrienne believed that Mitsuko would probably look good in just about anything because she was that pretty.

A few seconds of idle chatter passed between the girls before Adrienne had a chance to introduce the man by her side. "Oh Mitsuko, this is Zach, my boyfriend. I told you about him the other day," she said proudly as she smiled at him. "And Zach, this is Mitsuko. I met her the other day when I went out for a run. She's really nice, and she turns into a fox!"

Mitsuko heard Adrienne call her name and turned to see where it was coming from. She smiled broadly and waved at the werewolf as she dragged her boyfriend over. "Ookami-chan," she said happily. "It's good to see you again. I was hoping you were going to be here." Of course, it seemed like everyone in the town had come out for this.

She looked over Zach briefly. Oh, he was cute. He could see why Adrienne liked him. She hadn't realized Adrienne's boyfriend had been of Japanese descent from the description of him, of course she should have since Adrienne had mentioned his father teaching her some Japanese. She ran a hand down her dress. "Thank you. I've never actually wore this before. Don't even know why I stole it. Guess I thought I'd like it more once I had it."

Mitsuko bowed to Zach. "It's very nice to meet you, Zach. Both Adrienne and Loki have said very nice things about you." She looked back at Adrienne, grinning mischievously. "Before you ask, yes... I ran into Loki again. As always, an amusing guy."

The Fae Dance!
[info]capriccio
2008-02-06 05:41 am UTC (link)
Dressed in a silken sheer dress, the fabric flimsy and light and see-through so that her naked form beneath shone out, Faye held the hand of her friend Kaiya and led the other fae to a group of their kind gathering around one of the bonfires. All of them were female and dressed in earthy, light fabrics. Their colorful and iridescent wings, free upon their backs, fluttered in the cool nightly breeze. Each of them wore flowers on themselves, whether in the form of garlands or simple plucked flowers worn within their hair. Faye chose to just wear them in her hair, which had been pulled up loosely with fallen blonde locks swaying freely in the breeze.

Knowing her friend was shy and spoke very little, perhaps because their lack of a similar language, Faye held onto her hand and did not let the younger fae wander from her sight. It would not be good for her to get lost amongst the crowd if she could not communicate with anyone in a proper fashion. Faye would keep a watchful eye on her throughout the night to make sure Kaiya was comfortable and safe. Her friend did not wear an outfit as revealing as Faye's dress. It was sheer, but not so see-through as to reveal anything beneath it. Faye recommended a more subtle gown for Kaiya, pleased with the result they had chosen.

As the fauns began to play a fast-paced tune upon their flutes, the sound of beating drums echoing in the air and in the earth under their feet, the circle of fae began to dance around the bonfire. Together, they danced at first, holding hands and prancing their way around the burning wood and fallen leaves used to fuel the fire. The music rang through the air like wind chimes in a summer wind, catching onto the spirits of the fae and all of those around their dancing ground.

Others, who were not fae, began to dance around their circle. Fauns with their flutes joined the fae on the outer ring, dancing in the opposite direction as them as they played their flutes and pipes and other woodwind instruments. Faye laughed and smiled, continuing to dance and hold onto Kaiya's hand even though all of the other fae had let go of each other by now. She would not let the younger fae separate from her until the girl grew more comfortable in such settings. It was enough in one night to have her come out here to dance in a gown with her kind. Kaiya would spread her wings later and fly free. Faye hoped to see to that one day.

The Fae Dance!
[info]forlornfae
2008-02-06 06:30 am UTC (link)
Kaiya wasn't so much shy as she was uncomfortable and a tiny bit fearful of her surroundings. Her life, up until a few months ago, was isolated to the isle of Japan where she had to endure many hardships in her short, fae life. She did what she had to to survive in the world that she was thrust into. It wasn't always pretty, but it was necessary.

But here she was now in a new world, one that she never imagined could exist. She had been so isolated, her field of vision narrowed to what was within her line of sight. She had lost the ability to dream of such wonders long ago, but to suddenly be shown that they did exist gave Kaiya a small seed of hope that had the chance to grow given time and the proper environment. It seemed that Faye wanted to give that environment to Kaiya.

Faye was only the second fae that Kaiya had ever met in her life. It wasn't until recently that Kaiya herself realized that she even was Fae. She had been led to believe that she was a freak of nature, an anomaly that wasn't meant to survive. But her "mother" saw to her survival, the best that she could anyway. It was Kaiya's father that made their life a living hell. He was a drunkard who gave in to his violent tendencies, and he did so with Kaiya on a regular basis. Though it had been many years since Kaiya had seen her "father" she still flinched every once in a while when someone in her presence would raise their hand. A protective reflex, one that lingered to this very day.

Kaiya looked down at Faye's hand as it wrapped around her own. So delicate and soft and so full of kindness. Kaiya wondered if there was an ulterior motive behind Faye's actions. The Japanese Fae had always witnessed that those who exhibited kindness to her only did so in order to get something in return. The only exception she had met was Daisuke, and he had disappeared without a trace.

The dark-haired fae was glad that Faye had chosen a gown that wasn't so sheer. Kaiya was used to showing off her body, her life in the brothels had seen to that. But showing it off to many people whom she didn't know was another matter. And her wings... it felt odd to have them out in the open in front of strangers, but Faye had explained (or tried to at least) that everyone in Elysium was accepting of one another. That praternaturals like herself didn't have to hide here and they could be themselves. Kaiya yearned for acceptance, but having so much of it at once was overwhelming.

The rhythm of the drums and the music of the flutes danced in the air and a small smile formed on Kaiya's lips. Her wings began to flutter automatically from her heightened mood, and her feet followed along with Faye's feet as the music played. Dancing was something that Kaiya wasn't used to, having never really danced before in her life. But she found that dancing seemed to be a natural response of her body. It swayed with the music and felt alive again. It was strange to Kaiya, but it was not unwelcome.

"Ano..." she began to say to Faye as she tugged on the other girl's arm. "Arigato..." she shook her head and thought of the English. Faye had taught it to her and she had heard it on more than one occasion. "Sank... you... Faye-san," she said with an awkward smile. Perhaps Elysium would allow her to start anew, or perhaps she would make the same mistakes all over again. Only time would tell what the future held and whether or not Kaiya would be able to release herself from the vicious cycle that had dictated her life.

No ulterior motive lied in Faye's treatment of the younger fae. Faye was not much older than Kaiya, but enough of a difference remained between them that she treated Kaiya as if the fae was a little sister. Having not grown up with any siblings herself, Faye never played the role of an older sister. She felt like one with Kaiya, though, and an intense need to act like an older sibling or mother figure arose in Faye when it came to the younger fae she had met since her time here in Elysium. Four months together in cottage, and she learned much of Kaiya from her body language and reactions to things rather than from speaking to her. One learned a lot about someone from body language more so than with words.

Whatever Kaiya had known before this life, Faye knew it wasn't something kind. Despite the language barrier between them, Faye worked with Kaiya to teach her words and phrases in English, while also learning Kaiya's words and phrases for things in her own language of Japanese. Both of them knew many basic words and phrases by now enough to communicate efficiently enough as was necessary. Kaiya was a beautiful young fae, and Faye believed there would be many eyes on her. No cruel eyes would come Kaiya's way, though, if Faye could help it.

However, Elysium was a safe place. The land was full of freedom and much kindness for as long as she had been here. Praeternaturals did not have to hide themselves from humans here, and the two of them lived and would continue to live open side by side. It was very different from the outside world they had once been a part of beyond these borders. Faye glanced over and noticed Kaiya's happy dancing and the fluttering of her shimmering peach-colored wings. A broad smile overtook the older fae's face, and she danced with more energy herself once she saw the younger fae beginning to the enjoy the dancing they were partaking in around the bonfire with many others.

A tug on her hand signaled Faye to look over again at her friend. 'Arigato' was one of those many words Faye had learned from Kaiya of Japanese. She grinned openly at Kaiya and her kind 'thank you' spoke in such a sweet, soft voice. "Do itashimashite," Faye told her, pronouncing it carefully. "You are welcome, Kaiya-chan," Faye added slowly to make sure the other fae could understand her easily, the smile still wide on her face. Her eyes glittered from the bonfire along with her dress and wings, all of the lights and shimmers upon themselves and in the air giving their circle an ethereal glow to its dancers.

Faye felt free and happy here dancing with the other fae. She had not had this feeling of freedom and belonging in a long time, and it was a wonderful feeling passing through her body like a refreshing burst of energy and light. Hopefully, Kaiya felt the same feelings and enjoyed the festival as much as Faye was enjoying it. She began to dance along and lose herself in the music, falling into steps she had once performed but had not known for so long until this night. Freedom, Faye thought, closing her eyes as the bonfire warmed her skin and the cool breeze of the night lightly touched upon her face and hair.
