Who: Logan and Marley
Where: Helicharis, near the library
When: Afternoon
What: Mmmm... Chocolate...

For months, eating for Logan was only the basic necessities. It was whatever they could find, eaten as quickly as possible so they could keep moving. Taste wasn't something that was worried about. It was just a matter of survival.

Now, here in Elysium, he was spoiled for things to enjoy. Everyone seemed willing to share things, because nothing cost any money.

Logan still wasn't used to it. He didn't know if he would ever be used to it. It was all... Overwhelming.

What Logan had missed the most during his journey was chocolate. Sweet, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate.

As it turned out, his sister shared his sweet tooth. She kept a good supply of chocolate in the house. Logan had snuck a bag of colorful, candy-coated chocolates into his backpack when he went out. They were like M&Ms, but not quite.... M&Ms, after all, didn't exist any more. But they were close. Close enough for Logan.

Logan had found a quiet place near the library. He reached into his bag and took out the chocolates. He took his time, opening the bag and inhaling the scent. It had been far too long since he had just enjoyed the scent of chocolate.

He took one of the colorful confections and placed it on his tongue. He closed his eyes and savored the rich taste as it melted on his tongue. He licked his lips, trying to make the taste last. Oh, he had a whole bag of candy, but one thing the last few months had taught him was he needed to cherish ever moment like this.

Marley highly doubted it, but as she went towards the library she had high hopes of finding some books with guitar tabs on it. Perhaps there were a few rare books stowed in the Literature section or even in the History section. She had seen that done before with the Beatles. That was just what she was in the mood for. The day had been rather boring so far, but it was on her falling due to the fact that she hadn't been out long enough to greet anyone properly. Now was the chance since when you make long treks you usually bump into someone. Marley hoped she wouldn't do it literally. Messy way to meet someone.

Marley could have sworn she heard a ruffling noise as she neared the library. She thought maybe it was an animal ruffling through the bushes so she went to move along. But Marley was naturally curious so she moved towards the noise. She couldn't help but to put a hand on her hip when she discovered the rather cute 'animal'. Marley tossed a look to the side before speaking.

"Those are the things that melt in ya mouth not in ya hands, yeah?" She hoped she didn't scare him too badly.

Logan's head jerked up at the sound of the voice. His eyes widened, shocked by the appearance of someone new. He swallowed the candy in his mouth, not bothering to chew. It was rough going down his throat, but he somehow managed not to choke himself.

She was very... Vibrant. That was the only word Logan could find to describe her. She was pretty... Oh, not as pretty as the Fae girl, but... Pretty. And bright. Logan tended towards plain colours-- White, black or grey. He wasn't used to someone who was so....

Logan brought a hand up to wave rather pathetically. He wasn't sure what else to do in the presence of this girl.

Marley laughed at his shy greeting, tucking her hands in her back pockets as she tilted her head to the side. "I'm sorry about the scare there. I kinda just pop outta no where sometimes. I heard you on my passing and I was curious." She gave a sheepish look, digging her foot in the ground.

She motioned her head towards the ground near him but not too close. "Mind if I sit down?" Marley hoped she wasn't intruding. He didn't have to worry, she wouldn't steal any of his food, but she was curious about him. He was rather awesome looking with those fox ears. She wasn't the type to stare at them, she was used to be stared at so she knew the feeling.

Logan opened his mouth, but as usual, the words wouldn't come. He looked down quickly, unable to meet the girl's gaze. He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, unsure of what to do.

When she asked if she could sit, Logan hesitated. After a long moment, he nodded and gestured to the spot next to him. He wasn't really sure what he was supposed to do. He had somehow managed a conversation (of sorts) with Zach, but that was the closest he'd gotten to talking to someone who wasn't Mitsuko yet. He just.... Didn't know how to convey himself. At least with Zach, he had known Logan's name beforehand. He wasn't even able to properly introduce to himself to this girl.

Marley kind of figured the boy was shy, she sensed that. But he seemed like he could be fun company none the less if he opened up. As Marley sat down, she drew her knees to her chest. Marley waited a bit, letting the boy get used to her being next to him. Slowly, she looked over to him drumming her knees letting silence only settle in for a moment. She drew out a breath signaling upcoming conversation, trying to make him even more comfortable.

"My name is Marley by the way." She offered her hand, not sure if he was the formal type of boy. "It's nice to meet you."

Marley moved her hair from her face with her free hand before settling it back on a knee. "And you're ears are really far out." She complimented shyly.

Logan couldn't help but be uncomfortable. He was not used to people coming up to him and having conversations with him. Especially not since his mother.... Since he stopped talking. He just tended to blend into the scenery. The longest 'conversation' he had was with Zach (not counting Mitsuko, of course, who could talk enough for the both of them). And that had been something he had initiated.

Logan shook Marley's hand, giving her a small, nervous smile. This girl seemed nice enough. Somewhere around his age. He was also more comfortable around girls than he was guys. Perhaps it was because of his close relationship with his mother.

Reaching up slowly, Logan touched his ears. A blush stained his cheeks. He didn't like his ears. At all. He had threatened to cut them off before. He wasn't like Mitsuko, who prided herself on her fox characteristics.

Not knowing what else to do, Logan held out the bag of candy to Marley, silently offering her to take some.

Marley bit her lip and looked away for a moment, the drumming in her knees halting. Maybe she should not have said something about his ears. She wanted to let him know that she had noticed them but did not think they were something that she saw as 'weird' or she judged him because it was apart of him. In fact, she thought it made him all the more cuter and harmless looking. Was it from catching eye from manga at the bookstores? Perhaps. Either way she gave an apologetic look.

When he offered her some of the small chocolates she took some carefully. She didn't want to delve her hands inside and take take too many. The empath was fairly new so she did not know how rare chocolates like these were as well.

"Do you come here often?"

She was okay if he responded with just light comments. It was good enough for her.

Logan wasn't all that bothered by Marley's comment about his ears. In fact, he kind of liked it. He didn't often have pretty girls talk to him and tell him how they liked his ears. Well, except for Chris. But Chris was... Chris. She was special. He shrugged off Marley's apologetic look, trying to convey that it was all right with him if she commented on his ears, as long as she didn't say how bizarre they were.

He managed a small smile when she accepted the candy. His shoulders slumped nervously as he watched her.

He cocked his head at her question, his trademark 'fox curiosity' look. After a moment, he shook his head. This had been a spot he had only just found today. He liked it though. He could watch people go by, but they didn't notice him. Well, except for Marley. He was sure he was going to come back here again.

He wanted to be able to tell this girl his name. But he couldn't think of a way to... Oh wait! Logan went into his backpack and scrounged around. He pulled out his dog-eared notebook and held it out to her. On the cover, in neat printing, barely visible against the black cover were two words

Logan Nagamori

He bowed his head slightly, a bit embarrassed at the introduction.

Marley leaned in a little to make sure she was able to see the words. As she popped a piece of chocolate in her mouth she smiled gratefully when she leaned close enough to read his name. "That's a very cool name. I like that name-Logan. Sounds really unique with your last name."

The notebook then brought curiosity. Marley didn't want to pry but the adorably designed notebook seemed like it had a very important meaning to him. Perhaps he towed it around wherever he went? She didn't know. Maybe it was a rather private thing like a journal of sorts and he would rather not share. But Marley decided to at least ask anyway.

"What is it you got there? You write things? Or do you talk to people that way? Or is it for something else?"

Logan managed a tiny smile. He'd never thought of his name as unique, but now that he thought about it... He suppose it was. A mix of his Japanese-Irish heritage. There was no part of him that did not scream 'halfbreed'... Not even his name.

Eyeing Marley warily, he considered whether or not to show her the contents of his book. He was often protective of his art, but she seemed like such an honestly nice person... Logan opened the book slowly, showing Marley one of the pictures within. It was a new one, of Zach. Logan had only just recently finished it.

He supposed he did talk to people this way. Maybe not in the way Marley had expected... But it was his best way of communicating.

"Holy Cow.." She said, for lack of better words. "That's one heck of a picture. You know there is an art supply shop here. I don't know how long you have been here. But if you ever need anything they have pretty much everything." She popped one of the small colored chocolates in her mouth. "All sorts of things if you do other things 'sides sketching."

Marley picked at a piece of grass on her shoe as she shot another curious look his way. Her words came out slowly, carefully. But she did not want to act as if she was afraid to ask the question. It may be a sensitive one to ask, however. "Have..Have you..you...always been so quiet?"

Logan blushed a bit at Marley's compliment of his picture. It was just a sketch. His paintings were far more impressive, but the compliment touched him all the same. He smiled at the memory of going to the art supply shop with Mitsuko and Loki. That had been when he first arrived in Elysium. Despite the dark cloud of their father's mourning, Logan and Mitsuko had fun. She had sparkled, as she always tended to do around Loki. While they had been a bit overwhelming, Logan felt brighter around them. It was hard to be unhappy in the presence of Mitsuko and Loki.

Logan went very still at Marley's next question. Her hesitance was clear in her voice. He swallowed hard, shaking his head slowly. No, he hadn't always been this quiet. Oh, he'd never been extremely talkactive, but now... He felt a swell of panic, fear and frustration at his inability to convey his thoughts to Marley. He began to gather his things. He had to go. He had to get away. Now.

Marley scooted away from Logan to give him room to leave. She didn't mean to ask such a personal question. She should have known she was treading on personal waters. She cleared her throat as her eyes managed to sheepishly travel on over to Logan as he prepared to make his hasty retreat.

"I...I it was nice meeting you. perhaps I shall see you soon."

The Empath said sadly. She shuffled a little farther away a little saddened they may have gotten on the wrong foot. "Hey! If you ever wanna talk i will always be around. Just..Just I'm sorry, yeah?" She smiled at him, apology all over her face. She picked at the fabric on her jeans, now no longer able to make contact with him since she had already managed to make words and say goodbye.

Logan paused. He wanted to be able to say something to Marley. He wanted to say that he liked her company and she seemed really nice. That he wanted more friends and he would have liked her to become one. But the words died in his throat and he remained as silent as ever.

His eyes were woeful as he looked Marley over. It was... Impossible. He would never be able to make friends the way he was now.

He couldn't even say he was sorry. He tried to come up with a way to apologize, but found himself lacking. Instead, he just went running, tears clouding his vision. He was doomed to be alone.
