WHO: Werewolves and anyone who wants to linger around the barrier ^_^
WHERE: North East of Helicharis (just beyond the Abandoned Elven Palace)
WHEN: Approximately 5:30 PM (1.5 hours before sunset)
WHAT: Werewolf playtime

Important OOC notes: 1) Start sub-threads in this post by posting the name of all characters involved in the subject and the approximate time of night that particular scene is happening. 2) You can choose how your character arrived at the enclosure. 3) Don't forget to describe the character shifting and what they look like while shifted. 4) Don't forget that the transformation hurts unless you are used to it. 5) Lastly, have fun and go wild with it!

There was an ominous feel to the evening as the sun began to descend in the sky. The forest was quiet, eerily so, as the animals that lived there burrowed themselves deep into their homes. They knew what was on its way by instinct, knew what the full moon meant and the terror it would soon bring. They could feel it in the same way that the lycanthropes felt the ache in their bones.

The wind howled, a long and lonely cry that told of the foreboding moon. The werewolves would be out tonight, their howls echoing among the trees and carried on the breeze. The North Eastern part of the forest would be their home tonight; the entire area would be blocked off by a barrier. Orc shamans and their powerful totems lined the perimeter of the forested area and waited for the Weres to occupy the designated space. One by one they would come, some on foot, others in wagons pulled by only the bravest of Elven steeds and handlers. The lycans' bodies would pulse with the power that was ready to be set free as their beasts clawed just beneath the surface waiting impatiently for the sun to sink below the horizon.

Ten shaman surrounded the area on all sides, and those moments before the sun's rays slept for the night they would focus their energy into their totems to cast the invisible barrier. The power of the wise orcs was more than enough to hold the lycanthropes inside. It kept the citizens of Elysium safe from their hungry teeth and sharp claws, while still giving the wild beasts enough space to hunt and run free under the light of the full moon.

Simon at Sunset

He tracked through the bushes. Away from the rest. Didn't like packs. Didn't want to be a part of one tonight. Never did before. Never would now. Lone wolf was Simon. Soon the wind would be rushing over his fur while he ran through the forest. The breeze ruffled his hair. He looked up to the sky. Tonight was the full moon. Come again like it did every other month. Hadn't felt it till the last two days. Faint aches in his bones. It got that way after a few years of being a wolf. Got used to it. Learned to deal with the pain. Still felt it though. Simon always felt it. Low thrumming throughout his body. The moon. It called for him.

Twigs snapped under his feet. Bare feet on the soil, grass, and prickly wood of the forest floor. Simon wore nothing on his feet. No point in wearing something. It was just gonna tear off anyways. He came out to the barrier with old sweatpants, a pullover and old socks on his feet. Left all but his sweatpants with one of the orcs. Barefoot and shirtless. Perfect way to shift. Back home he just went out full on naked but Simon wasn't parading around nude in front of these people. Didn't have no one to worry about seeing him in those days. Under moonlight ain't no one gonna see him now but he wore the sweatpants still. They would've saw him coming in buck naked. Simon kept them on. Kept walking. Taking them off now and leaving the sweatpants inside the barrier was about as dumb as letting people inside. Some wolf was gonna find it and tear it to shreds. They'd smell the human in it. Get an idea and chase for the clothes. Might as well shred them yourself.

It came. The moon. Up in the darkness he felt its power taking over. Simon knelt on the moist soil. Smelled the earth all around him. Leaned onto his balled fists. On all fours when it hit. Hit like bones breaking. Crack. Snap. Crunch of bones realigning. Each break and pop echoed in the air. Simon gritted his teeth. Jaws maddeningly tight. Not a damn sound came outta him. Nothing but the crunch of bones. Skin grew and stretched. Muscle compounded on itself. Sweatpants tore off during the change. He was becoming the wolf. The other part of himself. His second half. Embraced like a part of his soul. And it was. The wolf.

Fur the same dark color as his hair sprouted all over his new body. Eyes didn't change. Above the snarl of the wolf's snout were blue eyes. The wolf howled at the moon. Free. And now it was time to roam. Roam free.

Ahead laid the forest. Wide and open and his to rove. He plunged into the depths of tree and wood. Time to hunt. Time to run.

Time to be free.

Jack, about an hour before the moon rises.

His bones hurt. His muscles hurt. He'd swear later that even his hair hurt, even if the possibility wasn't likely. Every minute movement reminded him that in an about an hour's time, his body would be breaking and bending itself to match that of the monster trapped inside of him.

Jack was sitting down on the grass. Like Simon, he wore only sweatpants, old, hole-y ones from what had to have been high school. They were too short for him by several inches, but it hardly mattered. They wouldn't last the night. Jack remained stock-still; he might have been a statue of a person locked tight within marble. His knees were drawn up to his chin and every now and then he shuddered with a mixture of anticipation and pain. Oh, he wanted to run, he wanted to get out of here and tear off and never be seen again. The pull of the moon was fierce and couldn't be ignored, not even with his diehard grip of denial. But sitting still, refusing to surrender control until he absolutely had to was his one last refuge, and so he sat, biting down on any urge to do anything else.

If it had been any other day, Jack would have hung to the side, preferring not to be near any of the other werewolves. He didn't like socializing, and he didn't like being reminded that his strengths were theirs, and their weaknesses, his. But today, he sat by the edge of the barrier with the other lycanthropes that waited for the moon rise, not bothering to move on his own or try to be alone. His expression was both tight and blank - nothing on it to reflect the tension within, and the extreme hatred that he held for this particular aspect of his new life here at Elysium. He neither acknowledged the other lycanthropes nor noticed them; for all purposes, Jack had checked out.

Adrienne before and after sunset

The ride over to the enclosure was a lonely one for Adrienne. She had lied on her back on the pile of hay, eyes trained up at the sky and the clouds that reflected shades of purple, orange, and yellow. The sun would set soon, and then her night of roaming in the forest would begin. She heaved a sigh and closed her eyes. "Please... don't shut me out tonight," she begged of her beast. She wanted so badly to be able to see Zach at the barrier, wanted the wolf to approach him and accept him. The truth of the situation was that the wolf had already begun to accept Zach, if only Adrienne would fully accept the wolf and not try to control it. It wasn't about control, but of harmony. An actual symbiotic relationship except the wolf wasn't some sort of foreign entity, it was a part of Adrienne. One that she hadn't fully come to terms with yet, but was extremely close to accomplishing.

The wagon stopped a mile from the barrier and Adrienne thanked the driver. He smiled nervously and the dark-haired girl couldn't say she blamed him. It was scary; the idea that people could turn into vicious beasts with sharp teeth and claws should have made anyone riddled with anxiety. No, Adrienne didn't hold it against him; at least he was brave enough to bring her this far.

Barefoot and clad only in a pair of tattered shorts and a tank top, Adrienne made her way to the enclosure where the orc shaman were ready and waiting to put up the barrier. A cold wind brushed past the girl before she reached the safety of the trees causing the small hairs on her arms and legs to stand on end. She wrapped her arms around her body and looked over her shoulder. In the distance she could see the abandoned Elven palace standing high upon its majestic hill. She and Zach were just there the other day, exploring the contents as the sturdy walls protected them from the rain that was falling outside. She smiled sadly and brushed her hair away from her face. Would he show up tonight, she wondered. Adrienne knew that he was frustrated with their lack of progress and she feared that one day he would just give up on the whole endeavor.

She cast the negative thought from her mind and entered the forest. The sky was growing dark now and Adrienne could feel her muscles twitching beneath the surface. Her heart raced within her chest and she finally stopped in an area that she was sure was free of any other Weres. Adrienne leaned against a tree and slid down to her bottom slowly. It was starting. She could feel it deep inside as her wolf whimpered and begged to be free. "Just a few more minutes," she whispered softly as the bright colors of the evening began to fade making way for darker hues. Adrienne took a slow deep breath and held it in for those final seconds of daylight. She counted them down in her head as her keen eyes followed the path of the sun as it sank beneath the horizon. 3... 2... 1...

Darkness and freedom all at once. Adrienne doubled over to the ground and grasped at the earth with her hands. The change had begun and the hands that had grabbed at the earth were now becoming strong claws. Sharp nails dug into the soil as the bones in her body snapped only to be realigned once more. Her spine arched upward as the vertebrae extended slightly while the size of the bones themselves increased. A tail sprouted from the base of Adrienne's spine at the coccyx and became covered in muscular tissue . The girl's muscle mass increased, too, while still maintaining the streamlined and toned look of the female form.

Adrienne before and after sunset - Part 2

Adrienne's facial structure had begun to change. The teeth in her mouth elongated into points that were keen enough to bite into flesh and to tear it from the bone. Some of her inner teeth fused to create large molars strong enough to crush the bone of prey. Saliva dripped from her mouth an onto the earth in front of her as a guttural growl formed in her throat. Her mouth and nose had begun to elongate, creating the distinct muzzle of a werewolf. Her ears, too, increased in size and had moved upward. Her eyes became more acute, though they retained their original blue and green hues, with the addition of red flecks interspersed throughout the orb. Adrienne let out a terrifying growl as her body became covered in thick, dark-brown fur, finishing the process.

Her muscles relaxed as her lungs took in deep, heavy breaths. She snorted out of her nostrils and lifted her head to the sky as she steadied herself upon powerful hind legs. Her claws ripped off any remnants of clothing as her eyes adjusted to the darkened forest around her. Another deep breath filled her body, rejuvenating it after its painful transformation. The werewolf was free, and Adrienne howled into the night sky in celebration.

Zach, Sascha, and Adrienne @ Midnight

As the hours passed slowly in the world beyond the werewolf barrier, Zach twiddled his thumbs and waited for midnight. Calling Adrienne too early would interrupt her hunting and potentially cause a failure in what they planned to do tonight like every other full moon before. Once the clock was close to striking midnight, Zach gathered up his things, placed a whistle around his neck, and headed out the door of his cottage. He took a wagon to the werewolf enclosure, saw the orc shamans long before the wagon reached them. Zach looked around and couldn't see the barrier itself, but there were poles of some sort with carvings and decorations on them — totems, as they were called — seeming to form a line long before the trees. Orcs positioned themselves all along the trail of totems, a sign of the barrier that couldn't be seen by the naked eye.

Zach walked right up to the one of the orcs that he knew, Lurdoch, and offered him a small smile. Lurdoch smiled back, nodding his head at Zach. He knew why Zach was here, same as ever. Lurdoch said nothing as Zach walked up to the invisible barrier, sitting down on the grass with crossed legs, and stared off at the tall trees not too far ahead. Adrienne roamed in the forest somewhere beyond, a wolf under the full moon . . . but still his Adrienne.

He sat there for a while doing nothing but gazing off, afraid to pick up the whistle and blow on it. The tiny sound it made would travel far to find Adrienne's ears, a sound they had been training her wolf to recognize. Zach's whistle alone, which made a different sound from any other whistle. It was specially made for him for this purpose by the elf and witch working at the Woodshaper's Shop, emitting a sound that only a sensitive wolf's ears could hear far across a distance. Silently, it hung around his neck.

Sascha wandered along the perimeter of the enclosed area, occasionally reaching a hand out to brush along the hard surface of the barrier as he scanned the dark trees beyond in search of someone- something?- to engage in mental conversation. He'd never spoken with any creatures of this particular nature before, and he was anxious to discover the lengths to which he could still maintain communication with these individuals in were form.

Sweeney had been so frazzled by the strange energy of the day that he'd taken her straight back to the bungalow after his shift at the library had ended that evening. Fortunately, Irei had been there when he returned, and it was with great reluctance that his roommate had agreed to watch over the agitated canine while Sascha set out for the forest area where the lycanthropes had been sequestered.

It had taken a few hours to reach the area on foot, and then Sascha had spent a handful of hours trying (unsuccessfully) to locate one of the creatures from his limited vantage point. He was about to give up hope and head for home when he spotted a figure seated on the grass just ahead of him. He squinted a little in the darkness to better make out the familiar form, and a smile broke onto his face as recognition dawned on him.

"Speak of the devil," he remarked with a goodnatured chuckle as he squatted on his heels beside Zach. "Your father and I were just talking about you."

Glancing up behind himself, Zach spotted a familiar face beside him. For some reason, he was just a magnet attracting a bunch of people towards him today. He smiled slightly, remembering Sascha and their quirky first encounter, but then he furrowed his brow at the mention of his father. "You were talking to my dad?" Better yet, Zach wondered when. His father normally went to bed at a certain time every night, and Zach was fairly certain his father and mother were both sleeping at this hour of night. Not living with them anymore meant Zach could stay up as late as he wanted, which he usually did in the past either way. If his parents were sleeping, it wasn't like they could stop him from being awake.

Then, the next part of what Sascha said dawned on him. "About me?" He narrowed his eyes slightly, feeling utterly confused. "Why were you two talking about me?" No offense to Sascha, but the man wasn't the type of person that his dad normally associated with, so Zach couldn't think of a reason for the two of them to be talking. Let alone to be talking about Zach. His hand reached up to scratch the back of his neck. "That's kinda weird," he said aloud, more to himself than to Sascha, as his eyes gazed ahead at the trees instead of at the man beside him.

Finally, Zach looked back over at Sascha, another curious expression on his face. "So, what are you doing out here tonight? You know this is the werewolf enclosure, right?" Zach couldn't think of why Sascha would be out here, but his mind was full of other thoughts and things regarding Adrienne. All of the tension for the past few days had built up, and now he was worried about what was in store for tonight.

Sascha couldn't quite contain a chuckle at the younger man's expense; the look of confusion on his face was equal parts humorous and adorable, which made the expression all the more endearing. He'd seen that look more than once on Zach's face, although he wasn't about to share that bit of information with his companion. Sascha had developed an unhealthy sort of fascination with Zach since their introduction and had fallen into an erratic pattern of stalking and observing him whenever the opportunity arose. How ironic that he'd managed to get closer to the current object of his attentions through coincidence rather than any effort of his own.

"Weird, indeed," he agreed, smiling widely at Zach and glancing briefly over his moonlit profile while the other's head was turned away. "I'm afraid I'm not Kelsey's ideal conversation partner."

"Werewolves? You don't say." Sascha gestured with his hand in the direction of the darkened trees as if in explanation. "It just so happens I'm a canine telepath. What are the odds of that?" He couldn't help but grin playfully now.

"Remember Miss Sweeney? I communicate with her mentally...and I was hoping to try my hand at some conversation here tonight, but I haven't been very lucky yet. No one seems to want to come out to play. Can't imagine why."

Confusion was certainly commonplace for Zach. It hadn't more often than he liked to admit. No, he didn't know of the older man following him around. If he had, honestly, Zach probably wouldn't even be talking to Sascha right now. But Zach remained blissfully unaware, his thoughts lingering elsewhere and not at all concerned about other matters like stalking or unhealthy obsessions. He had some of his own unhealthy obsessions regarding a man that looked eerily like himself, and that was enough for Zach to deal with at the current time. Zach still needed a way to relay the information to his father. Breaking the topic of a potential relative might be the biggest task he had yet to face with his father.

Zach snorted softly at Sascha's mention of not being his father's ideal conversation partner. Okay, so they didn't get along. Which was good, or Zach wouldn't dare say what he said next. "Yeah, my dad tends to have a stick up his ass sometimes." He blinked, rethinking that. "Most of the time," Zach corrected, glancing over at Sascha again. "So, it's okay. He doesn't like most people." Zach was lucky Kelsey even came to like Adrienne. If it weren't for her all around goodness of character, Kelsey wouldn't have accepted her since the very moment he met her. What with the whole werewolf thing, especially.

Turning his eyes over to Sascha again, Zach found his mouth falling open as a smile creased his lips. "Really? A canine telepath? Cool," he said, genuinely amused. Zach was grinning; he couldn't help it. "Maybe you can help me with something tonight," Zach added. He lifted the whistle, which lay around his neck, and put it between his lips to blow in the instrument. A high-pitched sound, barely even discernible, passed through the nightly breeze and carried into the forest beyond.

The hunt had been good that night. Adrienne didn't just watch the action like she normally did, she felt like she was a part of it. It connected her with her wolf, and the wolf, in turn, connected with Adrienne. It was the first time she had done such a thing, and she realized that it wasn't as bad as she originally believed. She was roaming the forest now, her sensitive nose lifted in the air as she familiarized herself with the area. Leaves and twigs crunched underneath her heavy paws and there were a few times she snorted roughly when the wind blew dust in her direction. Apparently werewolves weren't immune to the irritating qualities of the small particles.

Adrienne's ears stayed alert through her exploration. The wolf knew what they were waiting for - the sound of a whistle. One that told them that he was waiting for them. He had always been there for Adrienne, and in many ways it was his efforts of wanting to communicate with Adrienne while she was in her werewolf form that allowed the wolf to accept him as well. Adrienne trusted him, and loved him. He had cared for her, protected her, even provided for her. Zach was the main male in Adrienne's life, and that made him the wolf's alpha male.

And then it came. The high pitched whistle that told her she was waiting for him. Adrienne darted off toward the sound, pushing aside low-hanging branches while jumping over bushes. Her feet were swift, strong muscles pushing her form toward the barrier and toward him. Adrienne finally caught his scent as she neared the edge of the forest. She slowed down and lingered near the trees. She peered out from behind a tree, watching and making sure that it was him who called and not some stranger. But his scent told her there was no other, and the sight of him waiting there caused the Were's emotions to soar.

She emerged from the trees and came forth, only to pause when she smelled another nearby. Her head darted in Sascha's direction when she saw him and a growl came from her throat. Her eyes turned toward Zach and her feet started moving in his direction, though she would occasionally turn to glare at Sascha. He was a stranger, and strangers meant danger. She was tempted to bolt from the scene, and her instincts had begun to make her back away from the both of them.

Sascha's forehead creased slightly in bewilderment as Zach raised the thin little whistle to his lips and blew, unleashing a tinny screech that was barely perceptible save for the tell-tale ringing in Sascha's ears. One particular feature of his telepathic abilities, he'd discovered some time ago, was the fact that his mental connection with canines enabled him to physically register some of the higher-pitched sounds that were beyond the range of most human detection. He'd always been able to hear dog whistles- perhaps not the full strength or intensity of the sounds they made, but certainly well enough to know when one had been used.

When the creature emerged from the cover of the trees just in front of him, Sascha nearly toppled over in shock. He thought he'd prepared himself for an encounter of this sort, but truth be told, he'd never seen an actual werewolf before, and its sudden appearance had caught him off guard. He reached out a hand to clasp over Zach's shoulder for support as he shifted closer toward the invisible barrier, watching the creature as it tentatively approached them.

"Incredible," he breathed as he watched the wolf's fluid motions for a few moments before turning to look at Zach in awe. "I'm guessing you two must know each other, then?" The low growl reverberating in the wolf's throat was a clear warning sign to Sascha that his presence was unfamiliar and unwelcome, but judging from Zach's earlier words, it seemed as though Sascha might just serve a useful purpose there after all.

"Calm down, friend," he murmured in a quiet but firm tone, lifting his other hand up as if to show that he meant no harm. "He's not in any danger, I promise. I'm just here for the show." He focused his attention on the creature that had already begun to retreat, projecting his own thoughts into the wolf's mind.

Do you understand what I'm telling you? Sascha inquired via his mental connection. It felt a little odd to be thinking full sentences inside his head like this; after all, with Sweeney and most other dogs, he merely conveyed single word thoughts or emotions and used mental energy patterns to translate the responses. But this was an altogether different scenario- this creature was also part human and therefore (at least theoretically) retained some form of human consciousness even while transformed.

Let me know you understand me. Sascha reiterated, gesturing with his hand for the wolf to come closer. Come here, I promise I won't bite.

Zach's face lit up as Adrienne appeared at the edge of the trees. He leaned forward slightly, gazing at her with hopeful eyes. Sascha's hand clasped his shoulder, and Zach could tell he was startled, too. "It's okay," Zach said, whispering the words to Sascha, as he tilted his head towards the other man. He nodded softly in reply, his eyes unable to move off of Adrienne. "We know each other," he echoed in agreement. Zach felt an overbearing smile burst across his face as he placed a hand on the ground and removed his legs from under himself to kneel upon his knees in the grass. Beckoning Sascha to follow his example with one of his hands, Zach looked forward only to see Adrienne growling, beginning to back away from them.

No, Zach thought. He broke away from Sascha and crawled to the barrier, what short foot or so there was lying between his kneeling spot and the barrier wall itself. Zach placed a single hand against the invisible block in the air, staring off at Adrienne with eyes that longed for recognition. For her to stay, for once. "Adrienne," Zach called softly into the nightly breeze, his voice carrying towards her. "Adrienne, it's okay," he told her. His hand reached out behind him, looking over his shoulder briefly for Sascha. Zach's fingers rested against the other man's knee. "He's a friend, Adrienne," Zach assured her. "It's okay . . . "

Please, Zach pleaded in his head, don't run away from me this time. Please don't run away. "Can you talk to her?" Zach asked without looking at Sascha, the pleading tone clear in his voice. His palm fell to Sascha's knee, thinking that Adrienne would see the contact — know that meant Sascha was safe. "Maybe you can," Zach said, turning to finally look at him. "Try," he told Sascha, hoping the other man would try. If he had to beg, he would.

Adrienne heard his voice and stopped in her tracks. Zach was calling out to her with his hand held against the invisible barrier. He was reaching out for her, pleading with her to come closer. And she wanted to, too. But there was a stranger with him, and this was something that was supposed to be just for the two of them. A small growl left her mouth this time, only to be followed by a whimper as she gazed at Zach. She was finally able to connect with her wolf, to become one with that part of herself, and she wanted to share that with Zach and Zach alone. But this guy...

And then he spoke. Not out loud but in her mind. She heard him there, inside and he was asking her to come forth as well. Adrienne turned her eyes to him, and though it was probably invisible on the wolf's face, she furrowed her brow in question.

Who are you? she asked him before she turned to look at Zach. The emotions that welled up inside of her when she saw him came to the forefront like a wave. Love. Trust. Safety. Happiness. Alpha. Friendship. Kindness. Love. Love. Love. Sascha would no doubt pick up on those emotions since they flooded around her actual sentences. She lowered herself into a crouch so she could approach the barrier on all fours. Her eyes were locked with Zach's though her mind kept returning to the man who could talk to her and understand her.

Zach says you're a friend... so... Her sentence became flooded with more feelings and energies, ones that relayed that if Zach said that he was okay then Adrienne was okay with him, too.

A howl resounded in the air in the distance and Adrienne turned her head around sharply to listen. She dismissed it after a second and then continued to get closer to where Zach was kneeling. There was a soft whining sound that could be heard from her as she approached him, though her eyes continuously darted back to Sascha. She just wanted to be with her alpha male, her mate, and nothing else mattered to the werewolf.

Adrienne. Ah, so that's who this werecreature was to Zach. Sascha had seen the girl with him on numerous occasions (during several of his stalking excursions, of course), and it hadn't taken much to discern that the two were fairly intimate. The idea was further cemented by her sudden emotional outpouring through the mental connection, an almost overwhelming barrage of thoughts and information that left Sascha blinking disorientedly.

He looked at Zach for confirmation. "If I had to guess...I'd say she's your girlfriend," he offered, a sly undercurrent in his voice as he added, "And believe me, she's very happy to see you. Her name's Adrienne, you said?"

Sascha returned his attention to the hulking creature lingering mere inches away from them, knowing that the invisible barrier formed a more than adequate shield but still a little wary for the simple fact that he couldn't see anything there to protect him. It looked like she could reach out with a single swipe and-

Yes, I'm a friend. It's Adrienne, isn't it? he channeled to Adrienne, trying as best he could to sound upbeat. Call me Sascha. You can think of me as your translator for the night.

He gave a short nod in Zach's direction. He asked for my help, so don't worry. You're the one with the claws, anyway. Zach's presence at his side helped settle his nerves a bit- the younger man was obviously more acquainted with this kind of situation than Sascha- and he hadn't failed to notice how Zach's hand had settled over his knee. It was most likely a gesture of trustworthiness to pacify Adrienne, but Sascha could have cared less at the intention. He had to try very hard to keep a smirk of satisfaction off his face.

Looking over at Sascha, Zach found himself biting back a smile from the inside of his mouth. "Yeah," he said. "She's my girlfriend." His gaze turned back to the barrier, to the werewolf that would have been scary to anyone else (and had been scary to him the first few times), but Zach looked at her with an expression of happiness despite the natural fear he once felt for something as frightening as a werewolf. Adrienne was more than just a werewolf, always had been to him, and hearing Sascha say she was very happy to see him only made the smile break out more. "Yeah," Zach confirmed, his voice sounding faraway as he looked at his girlfriend. "Her name's Adrienne."

His hand left Sascha's knee to touch the barrier with the other. She was right across from him, a wall standing between them, but it didn't matter. Zach's face lit up with the brightest smile as he began to laugh softly, his eyes twinkling with the happiness flooding throughout him. "Adrienne," he said to her, his hand grazing over the barrier where her muzzle was sniffing. "You recognize me, don't you?" he asked, tilting his head to the side, looking her in the eyes. Despite the fur and the hulking form beyond the invisible barrier, Zach knew the eyes. They were Adrienne's eyes, one blue and one green, even though flecks of red and yellow stained the irises.

"Sascha," Zach said softly, "tell her I'm very happy, too. Tell her . . . tell her I wish I could be on the other side of the barrier. That I wish I could touch her." His hand slid against the wall that couldn't be seen by any of their eyes, but that no doubt still kept him apart from Adrienne. For their safety, of course. But now that she recognized him, Zach wanted to rush forth and throw his arms around her neck to hug her. "Tell her, please." His hand stilled against the barrier, pressing to the invisible wall as he gazed in her eyes, the soft smile still clear on his face.

The look on Zach's face was enough to quell any smug or lustful urges Sascha might have been experiencing, and he carefully watched the strange interaction between his two companions on either side of the barrier. He'd be lying if he said he didn't feel just the slightest bit jealous of the intensity of the emotions passing unspoken between them. That kind of trusting, unquestionable devotion reminded him an awful lot of the relationship he'd had with...

He wasn't about to go there, not tonight. Not while he was in such a good mood.

"I'm not sure she really needs me to tell her that," he murmured at Zach, raising an eyebrow in amusement. "But you're the one calling the shots here." He looked back to Adrienne in her wolf form and sent out another mental link.

He says...he wishes there was no barrier between the two of you, so he could touch you. He wants you to feel special and loved.

Sascha had to forcibly restrain himself from sighing. God, he felt like he was working some kind of three-way bestial sex phoneline...only he wasn't getting paid for his efforts. He paused for a moment then, eyes widening as he realized he'd let that last thought slip through the connection. Well, damn.

Adrienne was sniffing at Zach's scent through the barrier and it touched her that he looked so happy to be there. Her eyes gazed up at him in recognition and she inched closer to the unseen force that was keeping them apart. She continued to sniff at the barrier and then over at Sascha a couple of times just to commit his scent to memory. Adrienne could hear Zach's voice talking but she couldn't make out all of the words. It was still hard to comprehend language as processed by a lycan's brain. But a part of her understood what he was trying to say, it was evident with the way he was reaching out for her despite the force field.

Then Sascha transmitted thoughts straight into her consciousness again. He was speaking for Zach, communicating to her what he wanted to say. Adrienne felt her heart beating faster and her tail began to wag back-and-forth slowly. It was a small indication of the happiness she was feeling inside. It wasn't until Sascha's next little 'message' did Adrienne actually tilt her head at him in confusion. She began to chuff softly out her nose as she spoke to him through their telepathic link.

Bestial phone sex? Hahaha, that's funny.

Her tail wagged a bit more and she got as close as she could to the barrier and nudged her muzzle against the palm of Zach's hand. Though she couldn't physically feel his hand, the thought of it touching her nose brought her comfort. She shifted slightly and then brought her tongue out to lick at the barrier by Zach's hand. Adrienne repeated the gesture once more and hoped that Zach knew just how much he meant to her.

Zach saw Adrienne's tail wagging somewhere behind her head, and he glanced over to her to look more closely, seeing the happy sign that he recognized the meaning of as a laugh escaped him. Her head tilted at Sascha, though, a mark of confusion, and Zach glanced over at Sascha. Confused at her chuff, he wondered what Sascha had said to her, but either way, she seemed mostly to be happy at Zach's presence. He turned back to Adrienne, wishing he could scratch behind her ears or something. It brought a chuckle forth, as he remembered his run in with Logan and the sketch he witnessed of Loki snuggling up with Mitsuko in her fox form. If Adrienne growled, she looked very scary. But Adrienne wan't growling now, she was happy and different from all of the other times before, and Zach let out a breath he hadn't even realized he'd been holding.

As she tried to nudge her nose against Zach's palm despite the barrier, he smiled widely at her. He couldn't express with words how happy he was that she had recognized him finally. All of their hard work paid off at last, and she wagged her large tail as her tongue suddenly licked at the barrier where Zach's hand lay against it. Zach felt his heart leap joyously in his chest, and then she licked it again. He laughed softly, leaning forward a little bit as an idea struck him. Zach held back for a moment, but then he leaned close enough to press his nose gently against the barrier across from hers. He rubbed it ever slightly, an action they always shared between each other that held meaning for them both. Zach knew even in her werewolf form, she would understand what it meant for them.

Unfortunately, it wasn't only Adrienne who had heard Zach's special whistle. Any lycanthrope who was in the area might have heard it - and the creature that used to have been Jack was in the area, having just ripped apart a rabbit and finding the kill lacking anything resembling satisfaction. A rabbit was quick, and that was it - it wasn't strong, it wasn't clever, it wasn't filling. That strange noise compelled him to head toward it, his claws clenching at his hairy sides.

Jack was a very tall, broad person when he was in his human form, and it carried over to his lycanthrope form. Now he was massive, an upright wolf with a dark coat of gray, white flecks near his throat and teeth that wouldn't quit. The only thing besides the wolf's size that connected him with the mild-mannered graduate student from Virginia was the set of brown eyes that were now hungry and wild.

Ironically, it was Jack's refusal to deal with the wolf that lead to it being so out-of-control. It had been ignored, after all - and ignored for a long time. He'd additionally never bothered with learning any ways to make the change easier, to cut himself or the wolf any slack. So now, the lycanthrope-that-was-Jack was furiously free. It knew its time was limited. It knew that it wouldn't be long before the sun rose and its form melted away, any influence and control it might have had - was supposed to have - shoved away or resented. And so his bloody muzzle sniffed at the sound of Zach's whistle, and he loped toward the noise. He relished the opportunity to do more than just be shoved back. Be lonely. Be less than nothing.

As soon as he neared the barrier, the wolf saw the humans that were standing just outside. And there was another wolf, some female - Jack took notice of her the way one might assess either a date or a football rival. She seemed strangely docile; he didn't understand why she wasn't attacking. Why she would just sit there when there was the promise of the hunt just a few inches away.

Her loss.

Jack charged the barrier, his growl giving way to a snarl of pure adrenaline.

Adrienne was only docile because of Zach, but also because she had learned to be one with her wolf. She was content at the barrier with Zach and Sascha nearby. She had already hunted, and had already roamed the forest enough to quench the wolf's desire. But her docility was put on hold the moment she picked up the scent of an approaching werewolf. Her lips drew back in a snarl and she turned to face the intruder. Adrienne saw the hungry look in his eyes and knew that he wanted to hunt.

Instinct took over and Adrienne rose upon her hind legs. She wasn't as big as Jack by any means, but that didn't mean she was afraid to fight or to protect the people at the barrier. She growled angrily and when Jack charged at the barrier, Adrienne charged at him. Her teeth were bared, her claws were at full length, and she sped up enough to cut Jack off from the barrier by ramming her body into him. She rolled to the side and landed in crouch, her keen eyes trained upon the new werewolf before she glanced over at Zach and Sascha.

She wasn't thinking about the fact that there was a barrier there to protect them, her rationality having been replaced with pure, raw instinct. All she knew was that she had to keep the Were away from the two men and she hoped it was enough of a distraction to give them both enough time to run away.

For Zach, he was finally sharing an important moment with Adrienne in her werewolf form. She had recognized him, and nothing but happiness seemed to cloud his mind for the next few minutes that passed by without incident. Until Adrienne began to snarl and turned around away from Zach, a new presence interrupting them from the forest beyond. Zach glanced up to look off in the distance, spotting another werewolf coming out of the trees. It was growling, bestial, and suddenly Zach felt a pang of fear strike his heart. The werewolf began to charge towards the three of them, and Adrienne rose up on her hind legs. Zach looked panicked between Adrienne and the new werewolf, his hand hitting against the barrier in an attempt to get Adrienne's attention.

"Adrienne, no!" Zach demanded. He didn't want her to fight another werewolf, didn't want her to get hurt. Zach figured maybe the werewolf was charging toward him and Sascha. They were the meal ticket, after all, and it seemed both werewolves forgot about the barrier separating Zach and Sascha from them. "ADRIENNE, NO!" Zach said louder, balling up his fist and hitting it against the invisible wall. She charged, running straight for Jack. The werewolves collided, and Zach banged his fist against the barrier and shouted at them. He was panicked, scared that Adrienne would hurt herself. That she would get hurt. "Adrienne!"

Sascha's mental connection with Adrienne was still intact when he felt the first jolt of primal recognition, almost as clearly as Adrienne herself had, and his eyes immediately moved to the darkened treeline as he searched for the new presence. There was something else out there, another wolf; he could almost smell it, could almost feel the spark of energy as Adrienne's wolf mind instinctively took over, thoughts and senses and emotions whizzing past in a frenetic current of crackling synapses-

And then the other wolf charged, huge and bulky and rippling with muscle, gnashing his teeth and roaring like a creature possessed- which, in effect, he was. As Adrienne turned to counter the attack, her attention now fully focused on this new threat, Sascha felt the tendrils of psychic energy connecting them suddenly snap with a brute force, and he shot to his feet alongside Zach.

It was a strange feeling, to be so completely immersed in the thoughts and mental workings of another being- a non-human being, or at least partially human- and then suddenly not, suddenly disconnected and disoriented and a little nauseated from the blur of motion before him. It took a few moments' pause before Sascha could get his bearings again, and he looked up just in time to see Adrienne pummel the other were.

Holy fuck, that wolf is huge, was Sascha's first coherent thought, and he reached out to press his palms against the smooth surface of the barrier. Zach was frantically pounding on the invisible surface and shouting Adrienne's name, and the combination of sounds was almost more than Sascha's mind could handle in its hypersensitive state. He snatched one of Zach's hands away from the barrier, using more force than necessary as he tugged the younger man closer to him and glared.

"That's not helping," he practically growled through clenched teeth before taking a deep breath and turning his attention on the new werecreature.

You're going to make my job difficult, aren't you? He spoke into the snarling creature's mind, doing his best to draw its focus, ironically, back onto himself. There was something familiar about this wolf's mental energy patterns, but he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. Let's dance, my friend. It's my lead now, and we're going to tango until we fucking drop.

Jack was a very calm, kind person, ordinarily. He'd only been in one fist fight in his life, and that was when he was in the seventh grade. He never used his height or his muscle-mass to frighten or intimidate people; in fact usually he tended to curl up, slouch, or otherwise attempt to seem less large. His height wasn't something that he was ashamed of, but he did get tired of being stared at in school or getting the age old observation: "Wow! You're really tall!" No, REALLY? was his usual inward response, though his vocalized one was a lot more polite.

There was no slouching or shying away now. Jack was thrilled at the prospect of a tussle, even if it was with a much smaller female. Who cares if he out-weighed her? She attacked him back and there was no such thing as gender politics to an enraged werewolf incensed with thoughts of the hunt. Adrienne's body slammed against his and the sheer strength of it did give him pause. She was blessed with a large amount of supernatural strength, after all. Jack's wolf roared in fury at having been intercepted, and he snapped at her as soon as he'd gotten his balance back. She was fast, and determined to protect the people just beyond the barrier. Protection? If wolves could sneer, Jack would. Humans were for hunting. Feeding on. Few could merit respect and even if they could, Jack wasn't exactly in a reasoning frame of mind at the moment. Growling, Jack once again lunged for the barrier, this time using his full weight and strength. He wouldn't be surprised by Adrienne again.

...however, he was surprised by the sudden voice in his head, enough to pause in his leap. Jack wasn't clear enough (or, for that matter, in control enough) to fully understand speech, but there was no mistaking the tone that the voice had taken. Challenge. Dominance. And it was everywhere at once, rattling against his bloodlust and desire to stay free, not to mention the frustrated feelings of when the sun rises this will be over, and I'll be ignored for another month. The werewolf growled, batting a paw over his head in frustration at the intrusive voice, temporarily distracted from attacking Adrienne or the barrier.

Adrienne knew that ignoring the wolf for too long meant that it let out all of its frustrations and ferocity on the night of the full moon. She learned it herself in the beginning, and it taught her to not ignore the beast in the time that it wasn't allowed to be free. No, not many people liked being a werewolf and yes, it did take time to get used to. No matter what a person's feelings were on the matter, one thing was clear - it was something that every Were had to learn to live with.

Adrienne did, with Zach's help, and that allowed her to make contact with him tonight for the first time. It allowed her to act docile and tame because there was no struggle for control. It was just Adrienne finally accepting her wolf form and the power that came with it. And she was doing that now as she stood upright and circled around the intruding Were just enough so that she stood in between him and the barrier. She held her hands out to the side and extended her sharp claws in preparation for a fight.

Jack held the advantage over Adrienne size wise, but she was a more experienced Were than he. She knew how to maneuver her body to its advantage. It wasn't always about the brute strength that came with lycanthropy, there were other gifts given to those with the virus. Speed, agility, stamina... all of these were heightened as well. And for someone like Adrienne who was a skilled athlete already these extra attributes worked with her strengths.

A snarl left her muzzle and for a brief moment, she looked over her shoulder at Zach. There was something reflected in her eyes, something she hoped he could understand without having Sascha translate her feelings. There was love and caring despite her monstrous form, and she would protect him from this other werewolf at any cost. She turned her attention back to Jack and watched curiously when he batted himself in the head. Instinct took over again and she lowered her knees slightly in preparation for the fight that Jack's wolf so desperately wanted.

Snatched like a rag doll at the wrist and jerked aside, which nearly made him lose his balance and fall over with the suddenness of it all, Zach looked up quickly at the culprit with a glare of anger visible on his features. It rivaled the glare Sascha sent at him. Sascha had no right interfering with Zach or trying to prevent any interfering. They were on the safe side; if attracting attention worried Sascha, then he was being an idiot. They should attract attention to get the werewolves off of each other. Let the other werewolf leap at the barrier; it wouldn't do any harm and it would keep him away from Adrienne.

Sascha growled at him, surprising Zach more than anything and stilling his attempt to shake his arm free of Sascha's grip. Zach didn't have to time to ask how is that not helping? Instead, he looked back to the werewolves, just in time to notice how they had seemed to stop for a brief moment. At least, the attacker ceased. The werecreature batted at his head, and Adrienne, she circled around it without giving the intruder any clear shot towards Zach and Sascha, as if . . . as if protecting them.

Zach could only be touched for a second before the internal panic set in again. No, don't protect me, he thought, placing his free hand to the barrier once more. "You'll get hurt," he said quietly out loud, not realizing the words had slipped past his lips.

A thin sheen of sweat had already broken out on Sascha's brow from the effort of maintaining such an intense mental connection between himself and the unknown werewolf. He'd never been locked in such a strong battle of wills before, not even that time the shelter had asked him to train the dangerously aggressive pit bull that had been rescued from a dog fighting ring. The pit bull's issue, however, had been mostly fear; that was not the case with the were standing just on the other side of the barrier. Sascha knew dog psychology at a fairly intimate level, but he didn't know what to make of the new addition's unsolicited aggression. He and Zach were obviously the targets, and since Adrienne was in his way...

Fuck. This was not a good thing. It was probably best to keep talking to the creature; he'd noticed its response to his first mental message and decided to run with it.

Didn't see that one coming, did you? he taunted, making sure to keep the voice in his thoughts even and firm to convey a sense of dominance. He honestly didn't want to provoke an even more aggressive response by appearing confrontational, but he realized his options at the moment were severely limited. Adrienne already looked as though she was ready to tear into the other were, muscles tensed beneath her glossy fur coat as she stood between the two men and the beast.

There's plenty more where that came from, friend. I can stand here and chat all night, if you like...but that's not very exciting, is it? He searched his mind for more verbal ammunition, wincing as a spurt of pain briefly ignited just behind his eyes.

Sascha released Zach's wrist and pressed his fingers against his temples, massaging firmly in hopes of assuaging some of the pressure that had begun to accumulate there, although he never broke eye contact with the creature. He did, however, direct his next statement out loud to Zach, hoping the younger man would take the hint and do as Sascha told him.

"They can't understand your screaming," he reasoned simply, narrowing his eyes and alternating between his vocal conversation with Zach and a few well-placed mental barbs to keep the wolf distracted. "And you're giving me a headache. If you leave, maybe your girlfriend will follow you. I'll keep him busy as long as I can." He struggled to keep his voice calm, even though his first impression was simply to yell, Get the fuck out of here before this drives me crazy!!

He relayed his sentiments to Adrienne via another mental link, hoping the human psyche buried deep beneath the wolf's layer of protective instincts still possessed enough clarity to understand what he was telling her. If she didn't, he'd be forced to resort to some desperate diversionary tactics- namely singing.

He hoped to God he wouldn't have to sing.

Sascha's idea made sense to Zach, and it was the best course of action to take at this moment. He couldn't think straight, but when you had someone you cared about in danger of being hurt, it was hard to make sense of anything. Zach nodded his head quickly, beginning to jog along the side of the barrier away from Sascha. "Adrienne!" he called as he went, tapping his hand occasionally against the invisible surface. The softest, dullest sounds echoed off of it. Maybe Adrienne would hear that or him calling her name and she would follow him. Zach kept jogging slowly, waiting for her to show some sign of following him.

The other werewolf could remain with Sascha, and Zach hoped it would. Otherwise, the whole situation would remain a disaster in the making. Sascha seemed to be channeling his thoughts towards the other wolf. Zach hit his hand along the barrier as he began to run. "Adrienne," he called in a softer voice, loud enough to reach her but not loud enough to be annoying or distracting for Sascha. Follow me, Zach's mind begged quietly, hoping Adrienne would find Zach more important to guard than Sascha. That is, if she even realized Zach was running away from the scene.

There was no doubt that Adrienne wanted to protect the two men beyond the barrier. She lingered in the space between Jack and them, ready to drag her claws against the much bigger werewolf. But he hadn't moved, locked in place by Sascha's telepathy. It was Adrienne's opportunity to attack, and she was prepared to until she heard Zach's voice. She turned her head to look at him and noticed him walking away from Sascha. Where was he going? If he left her side he could draw another werewolf's attention and then he could get hurt.

Her eyes glared at Jack and then she heard Sascha's voice in her mind, urging her to leave. She snorted roughly in the other Were's direction and even though her instincts were in control, Adrienne was still aware of the situation at hand. Be careful... she relayed to Sascha before she followed Zach along the barrier. She dashed forward in a burst of speed to catch up to him and then lingered by his side, though they were separated by an invisible force.

Adrienne kept glancing over her shoulder at Jack, making sure they weren't being followed by the young Were, and began to slow her pace until she came to a stop. She let out a short bark to catch Zach's attention and then settled on her hind legs to watch him. She whimpered softly and inched closer to the wall between them. There was her chosen mate within hand's reach and yet she couldn't touch him. Adrienne had been a lone wolf for quite some time now, but that didn't mean she didn't want companionship on the full moon. Though it had taken a while for both sides of the girl to come to terms, the wolf had always sensed that Zach was the alpha. That fact was confirmed tonight and she longed to be with him.

But she couldn't be with him and it saddened both the girl and the wolf, and for that she let out a lonely howl that she hoped would tell Zach how she felt.

Adrienne's bark caught Zach's attention, and he turned around to see her sitting on her hind legs at the other side of the barrier. He stopped running in the opposite direction and made his way back towards Adrienne, breathing in heavily. Loss of breath overtook his lungs, but he fell to the ground on his bottom near his girlfriend with a smile on his face. Her head seemed to cock to the side, watching him with interest. It reminded Zach a lot of dogs, and he laughed gently as he reached out to touch the barrier again. "Don't do that again, Adrienne," he said in a low voice, though the smile hadn't faded. "You scared me."

At the sound of her whimper, Zach suddenly felt sad. Adrienne tried to get closer to the wall, realizing one was there and knowing it blocked the two of them apart from each other. Zach held his hand against the invisible wall low to the ground, looking down at his hand to get her to look to. They couldn't touch, not really, but they could be as close as this for now, and that was good enough, wasn't it? At least for now, it was. Maybe later they could have more, but they couldn't have more now.

She howled, a sad and lonely howl, and Zach hurt at the sound of it. He shook his head with the slightest of movements. "Don't be sad, Adrienne," he said quietly, his hand laying against the barrier as she pawed at it and whimpered. "Maybe one day we won't need a barrier . . . "

Maybe one day, though for now, there was no way to tell for certain.

While Jack might have appreciate the touching romantic gestures that were occurring only a short ways away from where he was currently located, currently he was a bit more occupied with other matters. Namely: the person who kept speaking to him as if he had any authority. Jack's wolf wasn't stupid - it could sense the pulsing of the magical barrier preventing him from reaching the man who kept staring at him. The man in question kept looking him dead in the eyes as well, a mark of aggression that wasn't going amiss. No, Jack wasn't about to obey someone without a tussle - while he wasn't an alpha wolf he didn't accept authority without question. And so with each word Sascha "spoke" to him, Jack responded, his mouth snerling up and exposing jagged teeth that simply didn't quit. His growls were steady, never ceasing as the werewolf weaved back and forth in front of the barrier, looking for a week spot.

Jack noticed Adrienne and the other leaving, but Jack didn't care. The real threat was right here, daring to stare him in the eyes as if the ability to speak to him would protect him from a vicious, shredded death. If that barrier weren't there... well, it wasn't any use to think like that, for the barrier was there, and going nowhere fast. At least tragedy had been averted for Adrienne and Zach, though - although Sascha was making no friends fast (although his actions would likely endear him to Jack as soon as Jack was in full control of his faculties).

The wolf finally paused in its pacing and stood stock still, his ears twitching as he took in Sascha's stare and position. His brown, intelligent eyes narrowed, curiosity mixing with rage at being interrupted in the hunt.

Sascha felt a shudder of apprehension pass down along his spine as he was left alone with the creature, locked into a strange staring contest with its eerily piercing gaze. The wolf's aggressive behavior and wild mental activity had calmed a good deal since Adrienne and Zach had departed, and the incessant pounding in Sascha's head head somewhat subsided as a result. The were was still on full alert, however, and Sascha could sense that, although the threat of immediate violence and bloodshed had passed, the creature was still in defensive mode.

Slowly, he lowered himself to his knees until he was crouching on the ground in front of the barrier, hands sliding down along the invisible surface as he continued to stare down the hulking beast. He wouldn't go so far as to say the gleaming, razor-sharp teeth exposed by the creature's curled lip weren't slightly terrifying, but he knew his shield was solid and impenetrable. Hopefully.

Sascha was on the creature's level now, and he blinked at the wolf as it paused to study him. He suppressed another shudder at the idea; he had the distinct feeling this were was sizing him up for an attack, which was understandable given the fact that Sascha had openly challenged him to a battle for control and dominance. There was a heaviness in the air that prevented Sascha from continuing his mental commentary, and for several minutes the pair merely sat regarding each other on opposite sides of the barrier.

A thought suddenly struck Sascha, and his eyes widened in shock as he finally made the connection between the familiar mental energies he'd been sensing from the wolf and the young man he'd met behind the library the previous week. It made sense, though- that man had seemed strangely on edge, even for a were approaching the full moon.

Jack, he said, tentatively at first as he dug around in his memory for the name, and then louder as he spoke into the wolf's mind with certainty. You're Jack, aren't you? Jack Harrell. We met at the library...do you remember me? I'm Sascha...Jack, answer me. Can you hear me in there?

There was a glare and a growl, but no recognition. Unlike Adrienne, Jack had never bothered to train for the full moon, nor had he taken any initiative to read up on ways to control the lycanthropy. Controlling it would mean he would have to acknowledge it, after all, which had never been something that Jack was fond of contemplating. And so there was no answer waiting for Sascha, at least not immediately. The only thing Sascha would have been able to catch would have been the frustration mingled with curiosity of the lycanthrope in charge. Jack's name wasn't it's name, after all, not really.

Although it was familiar. The werewolf stopped growling long enough to tilt its head in a comically human gesture before lashing out at the wall again. Nope, there was no way that it could see to get around the barricade. The morsel behind it - for in this form, Sascha was little more than an intriguing oddity - was unattainable for now. And so the werewolf huffed under its breath and gave Sascha a baleful glare, losing interest. There was a hunt to be done, and standing around bothering about some bit of prey that he couldn't get at wasn't really in the cards. Not when the moon would set in a few hours. Not when time to be free was so precious.

Like a radio that was being tuned to get a more clear station, Jack's voice - his true, mental one - briefly was heard against the roar and needs of the wolves. It was almost too faint to be heard, but just enough of it was audible for the confirmation that this was indeed Jack could be concluded.

Sascha go away what if the barricade doesn't hold what if I get loose what if

And then the werewolf sniffed the air and loped off, fixed on a scent it could actually hunt and follow.

Sascha remained kneeling in the same spot for several minutes after the were had departed, trying to gather the thoughts racing through his head. Once he'd assured himself that the creature was really and truly gone, he slid sideways onto his ass in an exhausted heap.

"...I think I almost pissed my pants," he remarked out loud to no one in particular, his hand automatically diving into his pocket to retrieve the pack of cigarettes. Damn, he needed a smoke right now.

Sascha mulled over the last few moments of the encounter as he lit up the stick, closing his eyes and inhaling deeply. He'd managed to draw a response from Jack- a brief one, admittedly, but a response nonetheless- and now he was left wondering exactly what he should do with the information he'd gleaned from the experience. Maybe he should seek out this Jack fellow and...what then, he didn't know. Slap him on the wrist? Tell him to heel? Part of Sascha was touched by the fact that Jack had tried to warn him away, because at least it meant there was still a part of the wolf that was decidedly human- even if that part wasn't necessarily in control.

"Fuck this," he muttered to himself as he exhaled a cloud of hazy smoke. "Next time I'm bringing a taser."

Dante - As the moon rises

How anxious he had been for this moment to come. To feel the ground beneath powerful paws and claws that were meant for slicing and dicing. He shuddered in anticipation — sweet, glorious anticipation. The moments before the sunset were always the most intense. Dante's blood would boil in his veins, his pulse would race, and sweat would break out upon his brow. His wolf was ripping at him from the inside out. Out — that's all it wanted. It wanted its night of blood and hunting, of stalking and killing, of darker desires that were never meant for the light of day. This was its night, and it intended to rule with all its magnificent power.

If only he could exert this influence during the day those around him would cower in fear. They would smell and know that he was the dominant one while the rest were just food for the slaughter. Dante's tongue darted out of his mouth to lick at his lips hungrily. Slaughter — what better way to clear out the weak from the strong. And Dante was definitely strong, stronger than he ever let on to anyone else.

The transformation came upon swift wings and for those moments Dante felt as if he were awash with ecstasy. His eyes clouded over in red as his body shifted from human into beast. Claws instead of hands, a snout instead of a mouth and nose. Rippling muscles beneath a thick coat of chestnut colored fur. A blood-curdling howl came from deep within the werewolf's bowels. Dante let his long tongue slide over the razor sharp teeth as he snarled into the darkness.

This was his territory. His night. And he intended to stake his claim.

Radu crouched on the ground, his arms resting on his knees as he waited. The pull to change was strong, but it was nothing new. Nothing he hadn't dealt with many times before. Not yet, but soon. He had a small stick in his hand, and was absently drawing patterns in the ground as he thought. Although he respected the shaman for their skill and service, he couldn't help but feel like herded cattle when they put up the barrier. The space was huge, but it was still enclosed and that was no way for a wolf to live. Sure, there were territorial boundaries, but they were carved out by the wolves in question. If they could not defend it from rivals, they had nobody to blame but themselves.

He thought about the other werewolves in Elysium. Surely they felt the same way. One werewolf in particular rang out in his mind. Adrienne. He hoped she'd take up his offer. What it really was to be a werewolf. She was new to this, and there was so much he wanted to share with her. So much that she was missing out on. What it really was to be a werewolf, and not just a creature that changed on the full moon.

He was able to admit to himself that this was not an entirely selfless gesture. Although his time of grieving was not over, it was time to stop locking himself away. He just had time to make that resolution when an urgency hit him hard enough to cause him to drop the stick he'd been holding. He looked up at the moon rising.

Now, it was time. He felt the energy rise in him as the silver moonlight touched his skin. The only silver that never burned. He took deep breaths as his muscles began to tense. Stay focused, go with it. Don't fight it. Why fight it? No reason when this was what he wanted. His eyes became gold, and squeezed shut as muscle and bone moved, twisting, growing. His nails thickened into sharp claws even as fur grew from his skin. He rocked forward, his clawed hands tearing into the designs he'd just drawn, as his body reshaped itself into a form that was neither wolf nor man, but both.

When it was over, the forest came to life again, this time louder than before, his senses now at their true capacity. The werewolf stood, sniffing at the air around him. Time to hunt, but not before he found her. The one he wanted to hunt with.

She had already begun to roam the forest. Not yet wanting to hunt and perfectly content with actually feeling her body for the first time. It was a wild and exhilarating sensation for Adrienne as she loped through the forest on her powerful hind legs. Various creatures ran and hid from her, but she didn't care. She wasn't going to hunt them, not yet anyway. She sniffed the air, the smell of moonlight upon verdant leaves was intoxicating. Why hadn't she noticed it before?

Adrienne had found something very interesting, a burrow of some kind and had begun to dig her nose into it when she heard something coming close to her. Her ears pricked and she stood tall on her legs. Her snout rose into the air and she breathed deeply. Someone was nearing her and the scent was oddly familiar. Adrienne never hunted with anyone so the fact that another Were was coming near her alerted her senses. She sank upon her knees slightly and kept her keen eyes focused ahead.

Whatever it was that was coming toward her would appear very soon. And when it did, Adrienne would be ready.

Radu had caught her scent in a breeze. It was stronger now, purified by her transformation. He followed it, until he was rewarded with the sight of her up ahead. His gold eyes fixed on her, taking in her form. She was beautiful and wild, just as he imagined she would be. He took a deep breath, committing as much of his sense of her to memory as possible. This was Adrienne, really and truly. The intellectual part of him, which he did not consider human, although others might, was mindful of how few people she knew had the chance to see this. Would Zach, her boyfriend, even be able to stand before her as she was now? Radu doubted it.

She was alert, aware of his presence, although it seemed that she had not recognized him yet. She would. He was confident of that much. Especially while driven by instinct, as she was. Now, the familiarity of his scent shouldn't require conscious thought to identify. That is, if she understood these instincts. Which brought him back to the purpose of his presence. This was not a purely social call, or a simple hunt. Perhaps another time, on another full moon, he could indulge in that.

He stepped out into view slowly, that same intellectual side reminding him that she was not used to interacting with other lycanthropes. He stood his full height, and gave her the opportunity to recognize him. His demeanor was not by any means submissive. Instead he carried himself with a calm assurance, and no markers of challenge or conflict. There was no need for a challenge, the hierarchy was already in place. It went beyond the fact that he was her elder, at least insofar as being a werewolf. They'd agreed that he would teach her. It was possible she would not recall the agreement, but he did. He was the mentor, and she the pupil. He had authority by default.

Adrienne immediately recognized the other werewolf as Radu, and her defenses were immediately lowered. Her mind remembered the deal she had made with Radu, that he would teach her the 'art' of being a werewolf. Adrienne wasn't sure what he meant by that, but she was curious to learn more about her feral side. She and her inner wolf had come to good terms with one another over the past few months, and they had reached a balance. It was a good thing, and she was glad for it. She also knew that one of the biggest reasons she had done so well with inner beast control was because of Zach's help. He had helped her more than anyone, and in her mind he had more authority than Radu.

Still, she showed the other Were respect, and made a chuffing sound in greeting. She would accept the role as mentor, for now, and see what Radu had to teach her. Adrienne took slow steps toward Radu in a stance that was not submissive in any way. She had grown accustomed to hunting alone, to roaming the forests by herself. Just because Radu was her mentor did not mean she was going to submit to him so easily. Mentor and pupil could still show the other respect without anyone having to 'submit' to the other.
