Who: Open to Everyone
When: All Day
Where: The edge of Elysium, near the mountains.
What: Some of the search party checks inside Elysium’s borders for Dante.
OOC: Post multiple threads, leave them open for others to join, or set your character up with someone in particular! Just have fun and use your imagination! Clues, discoveries, and more are up to you!

Despite their reasons for being at the edge of Elysium, the edge of the land was a beautiful place to behold. Mountains rose high into atmosphere, shadowy blue in the distance and snow-tipped at the peaks. Endless caves burrowed into the mountains, though most of them were occupied by the dwarves and their little kingdom apart from most of Elysium. Not only could Dante not hide with the dwarves, for they had been warned of his possible presence at the borders, but the search party could gleam information of local happenings from the dwarves.

It was unlikely they would find Dante today, but the werewolf had to have left a trail due to traveling. There was no way he could not be traced, not when he was being followed by trained guards, eager citizens, and other praeternaturals with senses to combat Dante’s own. Taking the two women with him had been a terrible mistake, and the search party was determined first and foremost to rescue Dante’s captives and to take Dante—dead or alive, the announcement said—back to Helicharis.

Now, it was simply up to them to pick up a trail and discover the location of Dante Donovan, Adrienne Conté, and Dione Castel.

The last few days left Zach with a single-minded focus. As he trekked along with the group, his fingers more than once found their way to the sheathed dagger down by his side. He kept his eyes on his surroundings, but part of him was not really seeing what was there. He saw a recollection of all his time with Adrienne, and he feared he was never going to see her again. For all he knew, she was dead by now. Any possible future they had together could have been gone all in one moment’s choices because of Hayate.

Zach blocked it out as best as he could and pushed onward down the road-less path. He steeled his face against the onset of emotions that threatened to spill over, burying them where he had the space for them. He was lucky to even be on this expedition; they were dead set against letting him accompany the search party. Something about being ‘emotionally compromised’ barred their acceptance of his presence, but Zach’s grandmother pulled some strings and got him a place with the search party. There was something to be said for being a former council member.

Hours of walking and a handful of breaks later, they still hadn’t found anything. Zach needed to take his mind off of their fruitless investigation, and he wished there was a familiar face amongst the ranks. Conversation was a pretty good pastime, and something to distract him from what lay ahead at least for a little while.

Katy eyed the boy. She had been watching him for quite some time. Oh she knew who he was. She clearly recalled him swinging from the end of Dante's fist the day the crazed werewolf had broken her ribs because she had tried to help this guy. That was also the day she learned that he was the boyfriend Adrienne had professed her love for the first day she had met the younger werewolf girl.

She had joined the search parties because she felt that her abilities would be an asset for finding the kidnapping psychopath and the abducted women. Most people seemed to be armed with some sort of silver implement which Katy would eye and carefully avoid. Despite what she had seen Dante do in his now vacant jail cell, she still had a fear of the metal in question. She had just armed herself with a stainless steel wide-bladed knife that looked similar to something you could find in a kitchen and she carried it in a sheath attached to her belt like a Japanese chef. It wouldn't harm Dante in the same way silver would, but the length and with gave her a little of an advantage. It would take him longer to heal from it than just a regular sized fighting blade.

Zach, that was his name, looked like he was itching for a fight. He seemed restless and eager for the search party to locate their target. She didn't know how to tell him she didn't think he would be a match against someone as strong as Dante. She didn't know what she could do herself except buy someone some time to puncture the bastard with something silver. In her mind she kept seeing the half transformed werewolf swing Zach back and forth effortlessly in one hand.

She pushed some hair back from her face and walked up along side the boy. He was a few inches shorter than herself, and smiled at him, although the smile was strained from the recent, stressful events.

"Hey there. You're Zach Kitano, right? My name is Katy Wilson. I'm a fr..." She had really only met Adrienne a few times. Could she really call herself the girl's friend. But then they both shared a pretty big secret. "..friend of Adrienne's." She held out her hand in greeting.

Zach glanced in the direction of the voice and found himself looking up to meet her face. Just about everyone was taller than him, so he was used to it by now. Curiosity marked his expression when she asked if that was his name. She was right, obviously, but Zach didn’t know her, and it surprised him to meet a new person who was aware of his full name without him having to introduce himself to her. He thought about asking her how she knew it until the answer itself came tumbling from her lips.

Her name was Katy, and she was a friend of Adrienne’s. Without having to ask, Zach already had his explanation. Katy’s admission caused an internal pouring of emotions; surprisingly, they were all positive. Zach clasped her hand and shook it, the smallest upward turn appearing at the corner of his mouth. Even if he never met her before, she was a friend of Adrienne. It made her a link to Adrienne, and in a way, it brought him closer to Adrienne again just by shaking Katy’s hand.

“Hi,” he said. “It’s nice to meet you. I don’t know if I’ve heard about you before or not, but sometimes my memory sucks. Especially lately,” Zach added with a quiet voice, chewing on his lower lip. “I guess you’re here for the same reasons as me, then, huh?” he asked, gazing over at her again. It seemed about right, and it made sense for her to be here if she wanted to find Adrienne again—just like him.

Katy watched as his expression changed from a sullen look to something that may have been called a small smile. Katy raised an eyebrow in surprise. He didn't remember her at all? Apparently the kid was oblivious to what went on around him at certain times. Although that incident had been one that was rife with stress levels. But still, to think that she had to go to the hospital for him.

"Well, I remember you. In fact I very clearly remember Dante running around with you in tow. Really?" She just couldn't help looking surprised. "I did kind of jump on his head." She hadn't thought that she was that forgettable. "I guess you wouldn't remember him stepping on me either, huh?"

Finding Adrienne and the other woman was definitely an important reason to be in the search party, but probably another reason that she wouldn't exactly admit to herself was so that she could see Dante again. He had gotten the last word with the little gift he had left in her hallway in front of her bedroom. He was watching her? What kind of bull crap was he talking about? She doubted he seriously had that kind of time with the two women he had taken off with. Once again he was just trying to scare her. He must really like the idea of her cowering in her room.

She nodded. "I guess you could say that." She did want to help Adrienne and the other girl. Adrienne had been so clueless about Dante, that Katy couldn't help but worry about her now. The man was a cold blooded killer, and she really hoped Adrienne wouldn't provoke him. She desperately wanted both women to still be alive when they found them. "Let me ask you something, I've only known Adrienne for a little while, but she'll be OK right? She wouldn't...um...give him any reason to hurt her, would she?"

Zach suddenly turned his face away from her once she mentioned that night. They were still walking, and the movement was something to try and focus his mind on so he could ignore the twisted feeling in his stomach. His face flushed at her inquiry, and though he wished he could escape it, he knew he had to get used to this sort of thing. It wasn’t going to be an easy process to get used to talking about that.

“Yeah, I’m sorry,” he said quickly, trying to mask the uneasiness in his voice as he spoke. “I don’t remember much from that night.” For Zach, it was the truth. The night had been so traumatic, and the only people Zach could remember were Dante, the man who wanted to kill him with his arm crushing Zach’s throat, Adrienne, Sascha, and the tall black Head Council member. He didn’t even remember Nico being there, although Nico told Zach about it later. Zach didn’t know he couldn’t remember anyone else. Maybe it was the trauma afterwards or the panic he felt in those particular moments as it was happening. Zach only remembered flashes of memory and certain moments; the rest of it was a total blur.

Zach hated the way he felt for not being able to remember her. Maybe he could have handled that night better than he did; maybe he could have acted more like a man instead of a victim. Zach was afraid of looking like the victim, looking like he was weak, and the very idea made his blood boil. He wasn’t weak. He just terribly outmatched against Dante. Zach preferred to look at it that way over any other way. It wasn’t like he had super-strength or anything.

His answer might not have been the answer Katy was hoping to hear. “Adrienne says whatever she wants, whenever she wants,” Zach answered, and he glanced over at her to gauge her reaction. “And she acts the same way she talks.” He turned his head to look forward again, watching the path instead of Katy’s face. Given Katy’s question, Zach knew it sounded bad even to his own ears. “So, yeah,” he added, his voice quieter than usual, “she’s probably given him reason to hurt her.”

She eyed him as he looked away from her. He was obviously embarrassed by that night and no longer wanted to think about it, but it was the start of Katy as being a part of this whole sick little game created by the demented werewolf. It wasn't fair that he was able to forget so much of it. It would stay with her forever, and in fact she could still feel the pain from her ribs. While she was healing faster than any human, it would still be another month before she couldn't feel it anymore.

"Don't say you're sorry. It wasn't your fault that Dante is mentally unbalanced. You certainly had no control over his actions." Katy looked thoughtful and placed a finger to her chin. What would this boy think if he knew that Dante had been stalking Adrienne so thoroughly that he had pictures of both him and her in some of their most intimate moments? Although She didn't think that Adrienne would really want Zach to know about that, and she knew it wasn't her place to talk about something like that with him.

Katy sighed and rubbed her forehead as if trying to ward off a headache. "If that is the case, then really the only hope we have that she will be alright is Dante's crazed obsession with her. He seems to have it in his head that she belongs to him. We'll need to hurry and find her before she pushes him beyond that point." She looked anything but hopeful. Adrienne was one of the few connections she had made in this place, and the thought of that psychopath having taken her away made Katy feel like she would boil over.

"Did you know that he lived like across the street from her? I can't believe that she never noticed." She narrowed her eyes and said with enough conviction that it had to have been something personal, "I want to see him dead."

Despite whatever he said, Zach remembered that night. He’d remember it for a long time to come, and he might not ever forget that it had happened to him, but it didn’t mean the small things didn’t slip through the cracks of his memory. In a flurry of panic and the fear of dying, Zach only noticed those people close to him trying to help him and everyone else faded into the background. He remembered specifically things clearly, like the painful lock of Dante’s arm around his neck, the piercing of half-transformed claws deep into his flesh, and the stench of Dante’s sweat emanating from behind his head. He remembered the terrifying drag halfway through town and what felt like millions of eyes on him and Dante inside of the temple.

Zach’s perspective of that night was vastly distinct from hers, and both of them took away a different view of what happened as a result of their personal experiences. He didn’t know how to respond to her, so he simply bit his lower lip and nodded in reply. He was pretty sure he didn’t have to say anything.

Hearing Katy say that Dante believed Adrienne belonged to him caused an unnatural twitch in Zach’s gut, revolting against the sordid idea that some sick stranger thought Adrienne was his property. To Zach, Adrienne was her own person, but mostly she was also his—Zach’s girlfriend, Zach’s companion, and Zach’s lover. Dante wouldn’t kill something he wanted so badly, would he? Zach could only hope the werewolf wouldn’t be pushed past such a point.

Zach furrowed his brow as he looked over at Katy, an incredulous expression marking all of his features. This was clearly new news to him. “He lived down the street?” Zach asked, just barely echoing the question. He faced forward again and fought off the sudden racing of his heart. His next question wasn’t asked in a negative light, his tone ultimately curious above all else. “What’d he do to you?” Apparently, Dante had a whole list of people waiting to off him for one reason or another.

Katy raised an eyebrow at him as he basically admitted to not having knowing where Dante lived either. She had figured it out rather easily, and she wondered why neither Zach nor Adrienne never even made an attempt to figure out where this man lived. She could only assume that he had approached Adrienne before, but couldn't believe that her boyfriend couldn't have possibly known about him before the incident when he was brutally attacked.

"You had no idea did you? Really? He lived in the house that burned down a few days ago. It's kinda hard to miss, now at least." She wouldn't admit what she did to this boy. She had no reason to trust him, and she wasn't interested in giving away any sensitive information about herself.

He wanted to know what Dante had done to her. She moved in front of him and stopped walking, forcing him to stop as well, or have to walk into her. "Do you really think a maniac like that only hurts one person at a time? He took two women with him. You really don't think that the crazy bastard wouldn't do more harm at any chance he got?"

Katy wasn't feeling particularly inclined to explain to Zach how vulnerable Dante had made her feel. There were reasons why she had burned the house down; chiefly so no one would be privy to the knowledge of what he had done to her, to Adrienne, and to the many other women living within Elysium. Nobody deserved to feel the way she did, and she would try and prevent that anyway she could. How could this boy begin to understand the things that had been done to her with such malicious intent?

She took a breath and looked away from him. "Let's just put it this way, it isn't a regular event for me to wake up with a dead animal left in front of my bedroom door."

Dante was a nice enough man when they first met him, only later turning into what seemed like a major creep towards Adrienne. Neither Zach or Adrienne had much of a reason to suspect Dante to be anything more than a pervert and then an asshole, so there wasn’t any reason to find out where he lived or anything like that. Zach wrote it off as if Dante was just a bastard, and so he chose to ignore him. He had hoped Dante would back off and leave him alone if he just ignored him, but it seemed like his decision then wasn’t the best decision he could have made.

Zach gritted his teeth a little, not caring to think about where Dante lived or why he had moved there. “No, I can’t say I paid anymore attention than I had to with him,” he replied. Dante was still such a sensitive topic for the most part. It must have been the rage pumping through his veins like nitroglycerine.

Katy’s sudden stop in front of him startled Zach to halt, and he was unhappy with the change of pace. He felt his patience wearing away at the corners, and it wasn’t even Katy’s fault. He smiled sardonically, the forced look on his face clearly implying he wasn’t open to this discussion. “Good for you,” Zach snapped. “You’ve figured out he’s a maniac. What do you want, a golden detective star for your hard work?” Zach came so close to wanting to storm past her, but he held back the ridiculous urge for the sake of not wanting to start a useless fight. “It isn’t going to change anything.”

What was done was done, and her questions weren’t going to alter time itself. Zach almost felt like she expected it to—or at least wanted it to, even if she knew it wasn’t realistically going to happen.

He definitely couldn’t help the sudden laughter that passed through his lips. Oh, this was rich. He’d almost been murdered, Adrienne had been kidnapped and was likely being tortured as they spoke, and this girl was acting like Dante did the worst thing possible to her, not them, by leaving a dead animal on her doorstep. Zach was really pissed off now.

“Ha!” he exclaimed. “A dead animal. Yeah, wow, so traumatic. Excuse me for being almost murdered because, you know, that doesn’t matter.” Now, Zach took his moment to storm past her, letting his side forcefully hit hers as he walked by.

Even though the sun plunging behind the mountains meant that the darkness started to blanket the land, even heavier underneath the trees, it actually made it easier for Xanthus to take in his environment. There was no more setting sun to burn his eyes if he turned the wrong way, making the stark contrast of light and shadows difficult to focus on immediately and determine if they were just changes in light or solid objects. Now it was just uniform darkness that his eyes could slowly get used to.

Pausing, he looked around for any sign of the kidnapper, his hind leg cocking into a resting position. Or at least that's what he appeared to be doing. They hadn't had much luck in finding any signs of this two-legger, which was a shame in regards to the two girls he held captive. The positive of the situation was that he had learned the land of their new home a bit more. Places to hide, places to hunt. He grimaced. Places where Lysander could likely be lost for days in the storm of his own curiosity. The dwarves alone could keep the colt busy for at least a month. Even if the idea of it made him mentally shudder, he couldn't help admitting that having plans for possible day trips with the younger centaur to keep him occupied during his more... energetic bouts.

Puffing out a sigh, he swished his tail as he stretched out the hind leg he had cocked. He hadn't realized how little exercise he had gotten since they arrived with his wounded leg. Certainly not walking and searching over terrain like this for an entire day. And that didn't include walking to and from town. He should be getting back. With the kidnapper still on the loose, it would be safer to spend the night with the Kytherion. He was uncertain however if the others meant to search all night and even though he knew the general direction back to town, it would likely take him longer to follow tracks and vegetation markers back to the road rather than just following someone who knew the lay of the land and their directions better.

After the fruitless journey with the group outside of Elysium, Dylan parted ways with them and joined the group inside of the haven. He recalled the route they were meant to take, traveling alone through the land in an attempt to find them. He thought perhaps he should also take his own importance into consideration, for leaving the safety of the heaven as a council member was not the smartest of decisions, even if it was courageous. Should something happen to him, they would be one head short of a full council.

Sometimes Dylan thought too much about serving the interests of other people that he never truly thought about serving his own; did he even have any interests to serve outside of helping other people? Doubtfully, for Dylan hadn’t thought about what he wanted for himself in a long time. With so many worries about his dedication to his job, Dylan rarely stopped to enjoy the simple things in life. It was quite possible that he didn’t know how to after such a long life of doing the opposite. He hadn’t thought about what he wanted since he was a boy when he had a crush on a girl in his clan. She had beautiful eyes as dark as her skin and as lively as the sun. She had died during the wars of his past, though he never saw her body and never truly knew what happened to her. She just disappeared during the chaos, and Dylan had assumed the worst like everyone else.

Sighing deeply, he made his way through the trees with his walking stick in hand. He started to pay less attention to the trail and more attention to the colors around him and the little creatures frolicking on the edge of his vision. Dylan smiled at the rabbit he saw in the distance, and he ran his hands over some low-hanging leaves.

The sun fell below the horizon eventually, and Dylan’s eyes adjusted to the nightfall. It was not that late; it was just the winter season. Though at first he thought he spotted a horse on the trail, he noticed the half-man part of its torso and realized it was a centaur and not a horse. It had been a while since he had met one. The centaurs often stayed to the forests and rarely ventured into town or the buildings there.

“Hello,” Dylan called, not thinking this man was a part of the search. The centaur seemed to be alone.

At the deep voice, Xanthus' hand automatically went in a smooth motion to the string of his bow as he turned his haunches about so he could face the man more head on. He doubted that the kidnapper would actually announce himself in such a way, but it was always better to be safer than sorry. He relaxed though once he got a good look at the man as he didn't fit the description they had been given of the kidnapper.

He couldn't help his head tilted a bit curiously as he took in the man's appearance. Seeing people with skin that was the color that he associated with the bark of trees or the dark silky hair and fur of a centaur was still new to him. Another thing he was likely never to have seen if he had stayed in their territory in Scotland. Swishing his tail, he looked past the man, trying to see if there were others with him. Seeing no one, he frowned slightly in confusion.

"Hullo," he replied, his words coming out with a Scottish lilt. "What are you doing out here? Are you part of the search?"

Dylan raised his chin and smiled somewhat as he took note of the other man’s appearance. He noticed how the centaur’s hand went for his bow, though he said nothing about it. He received his answer soon enough, anyway. “Yes, I am with the search party,” Dylan announced. Xanthus wasn’t the only one with an accent. Dylan had a deep and accented voice as well, echoing with the dialect of his own people. “I was aiding them outside of the haven, but it has not been very fruitful. I decided to check within the borders.”

Unlike the centaur, Dylan was not equipped with weapons. He rarely preferred to use them if he could help it, and he often chose his powers over them. With nothing more than a walking stick and pack, he looked more like a lone traveler than a man on a mission. “I take it things have not progressed very much on the inside either?” It was not the type of news Dylan was hoping for, but there was little he could personally do about it.

Xanthus' body language shifted ever so slightly at the raised chin of the man. The raising of his own ascruffy chin and squaring of his shoulders was unconscious, the centaur not even realizing what he was doing or the stimulus for it. In his mind he didn't see the other man as a threat of any sort, but instinctually he matched what he saw among his herd as a gesture of power and challenge with power of his own. The thought that such a gesture might just be because of their height difference didn't even cross his mind.

Huffing out a long sigh, he shook his head in answer to the dark man's question. "As far as I know, it has not been fruitful in the sense of the search's objective," he said softly. "Other's may have been more successful.". Although he doubted this if just in a matter of pride in his own tracking skills. "I was thinking of heading back to town for the night."
