Who: Logan, Chris and Charlie
When: Afternoon
Where: Their cottage
What: Fending for themselves while Mitsuko is away

Logan was up in his room studying. While he had not begun his lessons with Sascha yet, he had been given several books to read in preparation.

This was easier said than done, at least at the moment. Logan was preoccupied. He knew about the escape of Dante Donovan. About how he'd taken two girls-- Adrienne, Mitsuko seemed to believe. Then Mitsuko had gone out to find her friend.

Dante had been the one who killed Kaiya. That was what the rumour was. For months, he'd thought it'd been Hayate, but now... And he had Adrienne. Mitsuko and Zach were out trying to find her.

Logan had wanted to go with. He wanted to help. Wanted to make sure his friends were okay. Mitsuko refused to let him go. Said he had to stay at home. That she would get into trouble by the Council if she let him come and they could take him, Chris and Charlie away.

Logan felt he was an adult. He was very nearly eighteen. But the idea that Charlie and Chris could be taken away stopped him. Now that they were there, he didn't want them leaving.

After nearly an hour of pretending to read the book in his hands, Logan tossed it aside. He went down the two flights of stairs to the living room, to see if there was any news. Maybe Mitsuko had returned while he was trying to study. The person he found in the living room was very blonde and definitely not his sister.

Logan sighed deeply. "Mitsuko hasn't come back," He ruffled his hair with his hand. "Maybe they found Adrienne and she went to Irei's. She does do that sometimes." He'd not talked to Charlie and Chris about Mitsuko's relationship with the necromancer, but they surely knew she hadn't spent every night at their cottage since they'd moved in.

Chris had been sitting in the living room when Logan bounded down the stairs. She could hear him coming from a mile away, and it was the sound that forced Chris to look up from the manga she was reading. Staying at Mitsuko and Logan's cottage was a nice change from the water bungalows she and Charlie were living at previously. The bungalows weren't bad, but they weren't as cozy as the cottages. Chris definitely liked staying there, and so far it was suiting them well.

She smiled at Logan when he mentioned Mitsuko, and shook her head. "Nope, not back yet," she said before her eyes went back to her manga. "I don't think they found the Adrienne girl," she said without looking up. "Mitsuko would have come back, and told us." She paused for a moment, and then looked back at Logan. "That's like, way more important than going to see I-ray-eee," she said with exaggeration. Chris didn't hide her dislike of the necromancer one bit, and she thought that it was in extremely poor taste for Mitsuko to be dating such a huge jerk. Chris thought that Mitsuko could do better, and that she deserved better than the rude necromancer; though that opinion would no doubt change if the girl ever found out that Mitsuko was the one who had poisoned Hayate.

She put the book down, and stood to her feet. "I don't like him," she said pointedly. "Just so you know he was really mean to me at the Harvest festival last year, and I don't like mean people." She crossed the distance between herself and Logan, and patted his chest lovingly. "Which is why I love you so much because you're so nice," she said. "And you better stay that way buster, or I'll totally beat you up!" Chris was being playful with Logan. Though she used to harbor feelings for the half-kitsune she now looked at him as an older brother, and that meant she could be playful around him. Hopefully it wouldn't bother Logan as much as it sometimes bothered Charlie.

Logan was very happy to have the twins finally living with him and Mitsuko. As much as he liked his sister, it was nice to have his friends around. He just wished it hadn't taken so long for it to happen. The twins had to go through two homes that didn't work out before they got here. But now that they were here, Logan wasn't planning on letting them go. They were a family now.

Probably the best thing that had come out of the arrangement was that Logan's crush on Chris was pretty much nulled. Being around the girl a lot again, he realized that while he loved her, it was a sisterly affection. If he rationalized it, his crush was most likely because things had never gotten going with Kaiya. He'd wanted to share his affection with someone and Chris had a crush on him when they were coming to Elysium. But now that they were living together, he realized he didn't want Chris as a girlfriend, but as a friend and a sister.

Logan swallowed hard, thinking back on his conversation with Zach. He hadn't told anyone what he and Zach had talked about and it preyed on him. He wished he'd been able to help, but he was stuck at home instead. He tried to shake off the thoughts, convincing himself everything would turn out for the best. He instead focused on Chris. "I think it's Ee-Ray," Logan said quietly, remembering how Mitsuko had pronounced the necromancer's name. He couldn't say he cared for the man much-- having been privvy to his dreams-- but Mitsuko liked him.

"Maybe he was in a bad mood that day," Logan suggested. "You shouldn't judge him on one meeting. And Mitsuko seems to really like him. Maybe you should give him another chance."

Logan smiled as Chris threatened him. He grabbed her by the shoulders and gave her a hug. "I'll remember that." He mussed her hair a bit before pulling away. "Oh, before I forget..." He reached into is pocket and pulled out a small box, holding it out to Chris. "Happy Valentine's Day." Inside the box was a small purple heart, wrapped with silver-coloured wire. He'd made it himself (with him from his alchemist friend for the stone). "I hope you like it."

Had Logan tried to act on his feelings for Chris months ago (before she ever met Hayate) the outcome would have been very different. She would have responded positively to it, and it would have thrilled her to no end. Logan was the first big crush, after all; it was even bigger than the crush she had on Daniel O'Neill back home (and she liked him a lot). But Chris could no longer see Logan in that light. Her heart had moved on, and Logan had gained a new position in her life as honorary older brother.

She rolled her eyes at his explanation of Irei's name. "I so don't care how he says his name," she said in an indignant manner. "I'm going to call him I-ray-ee if I want." She crossed her arms over her chest, and turned her nose upward. "He's not nice," she said. "And it doesn't matter if he was in a bad mood, he doesn't get to take it out on me." Chris was very adamant about her reasons for not liking Irei; plus, she thought he looked super creepy, and he wasn't as cute as Hayate one bit.

Chris accepted Logan's hug, and gave him a tight squeeze in return. Yep, he was definitely the brother type now, and she liked it a lot better than the boyfriend way. When he pulled out the small box, and said "Happy Valentine's Day" she squealed out loud, and accepted his gift. She was entranced for all of thirty seconds before she realized that she had completely forgotten that it was Valentine's Day, and hadn't gotten anyone a gift. "Oh my gosh, Logan," she said as she eyed the box. She could only imagine what was inside of it, but she didn't have the heart to open it if she couldn't give him a gift in return. "I forgot it was Valentine's Day, and I didn't get you anything." Her lower lip jutted out in a small pout, and she looked at him from the top of her eyes. "I'm sorry..."

Logan rolled his eyes a bit as Chris' insistence to continue hating Irei. It was things like that which made him certain his feelings for her had been misguided. It reminded him how very young she was. He couldn't say Irei was his favourite person in the world, but he'd tolerate him for the sake of his sister. "All right, all right..." Logan sighed. "You don't have to like him, just don't be only hostile if he comes by. Mitsuko should be allowed to have her boyfriend in the house."

Logan smiled when Chris squealed at her present, but shook his head when she got upset she hadn't gotten him something in return. "Don't worry about it," Logan insisted. "If you feel really bad about it, you can get me something for White Day. We'll do it like they do it in Japan... Except, with the genders backwards." Logan had grown up in Canada, but he'd learned about his Japanese heritage for the sake of his father. He playfully ruffled Chris' hair. "Just open your present already."

Chris's dislike of Irei had nothing to do with how young she was. She had her reasons, and that was all she needed. Nothing was going to convince her otherwise, not even if he was Mitsuko's boyfriend. She couldn't help but think that their guardian had poor taste in men, but she supposed that was her choice to make. She watched Logan from the corner of her eyes, and nodded at his words. "I can be nice," she said. "But if he's mean to me don't expect me to keep quiet."

All thought of Irei left the girl's head when Logan insisted that she open her present. Her glance turned playful, as did the curl upon her lips. "All right, I'll get you something for White Day," she agreed. She too was familiar with Japanese culture through her love of manga and anime. It prompted some research the year before when everything was still normal, and she remembered that she liked the idea of White Day. She opened the box slowly, eyes widening when she saw the pendant inside.

"Oh, Logan," she said breathlessly. "It's beautiful! Thank you so much!" She leaped into his arms, and squeezed him tight. Chris let go after a few moments, and pulled the pendant from the box when she had stepped back. "Put it on for me?" She unclasped it, and held it out to Logan before turning around. She lifted her hair away from her neck, and waited for Logan to put it on for her.

Logan gave Chris a large smile. He knew the girl would always have something against Irei. He supposed he could understand that. The man could be abrasive and a glance at his subconscious... A shudder went through Logan at the memory. But he still remembered that-- even with the horrific things he'd seen-- Irei had shown himself as a young, scared boy. There was still an innocence deep inside him. Maybe that's what Mitsuko saw in him. "I think that'll be all right." Logan gave Chris' hair a playful ruffle. "If he's dating Mitsuko, he should be on his best behaviour around us. At least I'd hope so."

"It's a deal then," Logan said with a smile. He cocked his head slightly. "But remember, White Day is the day before Mitsuko's birthday. You, me and Charlie should do something for her." He'd never gotten to do anything for Mitsuko's birthday, having only met her several months ago. And now that she was taking care of the three of them... He thought they should do something extra special.

Logan beamed when Chris opened her present and obviously liked it. He had worked hard on it, wanting to make it perfect. From her reactions, it seemed like he had succeeded. Logan took back the necklace and unclasped it. He stood behind Chris and slipped the leather cord around her neck and refastened it. He smiled as turned her around. "It looks good on you."
