Thursday: February 14, 2008
Who: Kelckek, Theora, and Open
When: Morning,
Where: Water Bungalows
What: A very eventful Birthday... Maybe...

The early sun filled the room with the graceful pinks and yellows of morning as Kelchek opened his eyes to the new day. "Hhuhhh." He sighed with relief, thankful to have woken up. His muscles still ached as Zane said they would, but he managed to sit up with little trouble. He was definitely a sight for sore eyes with his short brown hair all a mess, his facial hair wild and scruffy, and his body hunched over in discomfort. At least he was no longer tired, although he was sure he looked it as he nearly fell off of the full sized bed in an attempt to straighten his posture. He had never liked slouching, or the awkwardness that came with this pain. Grace and poise had always been a part of him.

He slowly scanned the room. So this is my room... He hardly believed himself. My house. Lost in his thoughts he sat there dazed, trying to find something that seemed even vaguely like his, something that felt like home. He found nothing. This room was no more his than anyones. He turned his head away from the foreign room and back to the pillow, his pillow? He eyes caught sight of a small note left on the end table.

"BED REST"

"Whatever." Kelchek scoffed, unsure whether or not to take it seriously. Zane had been more than helpful and kind, but he always viewed "doctor" as an acquired taste. A taste that he hadn't acquired. Let's see how well this works. He slowly placed his feet firmly against the chilled wooden floor and applied enough pressure to test his knees for stability. So far so good. He managed to stand, but left one hand on the bed for support. Taking his first few steps was a little bit more than shaky, but it soon became easier.

He wanted to leave this unfamiliar place, leave and run back home to his small apartment in New York. He knew this was impossible, at least for right now, but he couldn't stay right here, alone. He walked more steadily into the living room and leaned against the small love seat couch just in case. In a somewhat cocky state of mind he felt enjoyed at the accomplishment of making it this far. He hadn't even noticed that he was in only his boxers until his hand slid over a pair of jeans draped over the corner of the couch. He stared blankly at the jeans and and shirt, and reconsidered going out. How much effort is that going to take? But his urge to leave over took him.

He stretched slowly testing his flexibility before tackling the task of getting dressed. He was certainly looser than yesterday. "Doctor, I do believe your prescription of bed rest hath healed me!" He mocked the air. After getting dressed he headed for the door, but stopped at the sight of food. A basket of fresh fruit caught his full attention. He grabbed an apple and bit into it, its peel gave way to the juicy meat. He continued to eat it as he slowly walked outside. The sun had risen just over the horizon shedding its brilliance onto the elf. On any other day he would have just stood there absorbing it, but not today. He was determined to explore.

Kelchek had never been that comfortable when he didn't know the lay of the land, where he could go to hide, to rest, to find herbs. Exploration was his goal as he mentally captured everything he had missed on his walk just yesterday. The path was pretty well worn and he had no problem following it for about fifteen minutes until his body had had enough. The was nothing more that he could do but lay down in the grass. Sweet natural nature. He laughed at himself as if he were watching his predicament hsppen to someone else. "Maybe the doctor was right?"

"I suppose it depends on what the doctor was right about," said Theora to the man that had just lied down upon the grass. The priestess happened upon him while she was out for a stroll, her mind focused on the events that were to take place that day. The situation with Dante weighed heavily upon her mind, and heart, but Theora had found no burden was ever too troubling if she could surround herself with nature. It was the reason she was out so early in the morning, breathing in the fresh scent of the world around her, and communing with all that was natural.

Theora recognized the man on the grass as an elf, one that she had yet to meet. Curious, she strode over with graceful steps, and knelt down beside his prostrated body. She could see no visible wounds though she knew very well that that meant very little when it came to injury. "Do you need any assistance," she asked gently. She could sense from the elf's energy that he was not feeling one-hundred percent well, and that caused her to worry even though she did not know him personally. It was in Theora's nature as a priestess, and a healer, to care about a person's well-being, and at that moment she cared about the elf that was lying on the grass.

He hadn't sensed anyone around him as he fell to the ground most ungracefully. Her voice had startled him. He lifted his head slightly and looked in her direction. An elf? He figured that he would run into one eventually, having already had a run in with a wood-nymph and a mermaid, but it being this soon frightened him. This fright didn't stop him from admiring her beauty. Kelckek had always admired the female body as a piece of art, nothing more, and this woman was by far one of the most exquisite he had witnessed. He graceful steps toward him help relieve the tension he felt between them, but not completely. He half held his breath as she knelt down beside him, more out of habit than discomfort.

He didn't know how to answer her question. Assistance? He thought before replying. "The doctor prescribed bed rest, but I can't stand not being..." His need to breath over took over his speech. That was going to irritate him. "Being out in nature." He sighed as he let his head fall back into the grass.

He could feel a certain aura around her, one of importance. He couldn't quite place it, not did he know how to respond to it, having never been taught proper elven etiquette. He suddenly felt unsure, while the meet seemed casual enough, he couldn't ignore the feeling that he was getting from her.

"I don't mean to insult you in any form by my informality," His breathing sped back up. "I am just not in the condition to..." His voice broke off again- it was certainly pissing him off. He growled in anger, hoping that this new acquaintance would not take it as against her.

She had not meant to startle the younger elf, but it was not uncommon for the priestess to do. Her footfalls were always light, and graceful; almost as if she were dancing upon air. She had on more than one occasion taken people by surprise, and she always had to apologize for doing so. “I did not mean to frighten you,” she said with a soft smile as she settled down upon the grass next to him. Theora could sense the apprehension emanating from him, and she would have taken a step back were it not for the fact that she was worried about him. It was clear to her after he had spoken that he truly was weak, and Theora could not leave him in his current state.

“I understand why he prescribed bed rest considering your state, but I can also understand your need to be within nature. It is out here that we are truly at home, is it not?” Theora settled onto the grass beside him in a manner befitting her status has a High Priestess. She could not help the aura that she portrayed; her life was one that she was molded to fit since a very young age. All of her mannerisms, and etiquette were first nature to her, and she would not know how to act any other way.

“You need not apologize,” she said with a raised hand to halt him. “Formalities are not necessary with me,” she further explained though most people had a tendency to be very formal around her. “Are you sure you don’t need any assistance? I could facilitate your healing, if you like. “ Theora could tell that this elf did not like feeling, or being weak. His constant growling, and scowled expressions told her as much, and she could appreciate that as a trait of an independent soul, one who did not like to rely on others.

Kelckek shook his head in agreement, out here was more homey than any home he had ever had. Her continued elegance and soft movements continued to lighten the tension. Surely she must hold a high position in this new place, although he couldn't think what it could be.

Hmmm, he wondered, if formalities were unnecessary, maybe she didn't hold any particular standing. His mind was a buzz. There so much that I don't know... "What exactly is this place?" He mostly mumbled before she continued speaking. "Healing? Like magic healing?" He could hear the excitement in his own voice. Having been unable to heal himself the day before, her offer couldn't have sounded better. "Bed rest has never worked for me..." his voice trailed off into another place, "neither has modern medicine." he stated almost to himself.

He looked at her with a childish face full of longing and joy. Could she really help him, or was it just some alternative form of rest? He was starting to warm up to her, but wasn't sure if he was getting all worked up for nothing.

Theora's life had been filled with so many formalities that the priestess no longer saw a need for it. She wanted to be more relatable to the people she interacted with, and more often than not all of that was tossed to the wayside the moment anyone learned of her status as a high priestess or a council member. She chose to keep those things out of her introduction.

"Yes, healing, like magical healing," she reiterated, quite amused. Though Theora knew how to heal a body through herbal treatments she was most familiar, and comfortable, with using magic to heal. It was one of her primary objectives as a high priestess, and Theora was the best there was when it came to healing. "Modern medicine does have its benefits," she said. "But healing through magic has never let me down once in my lifetime." She smiled at the elf, and then moved closer to his body.

"You must lie still until the process is complete," she stated. Theora moved her hands to hover above the man's body, and she closed her eyes. Her hands, as well as her entire body, began to glow softly even in the sunlit morning. She took a deep breath, and summoned her magical energy to the forefront. It surrounded the elf completely, a warm blanket of light that would heal him from the inside out. The process would take several minutes, but the effects would be felt almost immediately by the stranger.

Kelchek could have burst with excitement at the confirmation of Magical healing, but he became relaxed as it reminded him of his departed mother. She was very gifted in the art of healing, but he didn't have a chance to linger on the memory. She begun almost without warning, not like he could have done anything to prepare. Before he could say, or agree to anything, her hands were over him.

His eyes widened as a faint glow of green surrounded her, this was something he had never witnessed before, as for as he could remember. A sensation of warmth began to form at the center on his body. Alarmed at first as this warmth slowly expanded from his lower stomach in every direction, he realized that not all healing must be the same. His mother had relied primarily on water magic and healing had felt like the polar opposite of this. But he became more and more relieved as the warmth continued to grow, now reaching up to his chest and down to his knees.

He closed his eyes it reached up to his neck. He could feel his skin radiating as his entire body came into full relaxation. He couldn't feel any aches, any pressure, anything. He started to wonder how long it had been, how long it was going to take, but was unable to keep any thought as the energy consumed his mind. Everything was perfect. It was as if he wasn't there, the same feeling he forced on himself to achieve invisibility. Oh no! He couldn't move or open his eyes. Am I still visible? He felt concerned, not wanting to insult his new friend, and also not sure how him disappearing would go over with her, but that fear slowly faded away as the warmth continued to flow though him.

As Theora continued to heal the injured elf she could sense all of the little aches and pains in his body. Her magic reached out to those areas, and healed them easily. It wasn't as bad as she suspected, but she was glad that she was able to help him regardless. Those few minutes might have seemed like an eternity to the other elf, but then it was over, and Theora pulled away from him.

She smiled at him as she sat back on her knees. Her hands rested in her lap, and she looked over his entire body. "How do you feel," she asked with sincerity. She was the most gifted healer in her community, and quite possibly in the haven, but it was a habit of hers to ask how the injured were feeling. The priestess watched him for a few minutes, and then tilted her head downward in greeting.

"I am Theora of Eluniar Isle," she said. She hardly ever introduced herself so formally with others except with other elves.

Time had stopped in Kelchek's mind. He was in the place that was not a place, floating without gravity or sense of direction. This is what it must feel like to be dead, is what he would have thought if his mind had not been completely calmed. Then suddenly it was gone. Her angelic voice brought him back to reality. How DO I feel? He questioned himself, not wanting test if it had worked or not. He attempted to raise his body but put top much energy into it and was standing on his feet as if nothing had happened. "Wow! I feel great!" He Stretched out his muscles.

Overjoyed that he was revitalized he knelt down in front of the elf almost in a worshipful manner. Theora Her name echoed softly though his mind. "Enchanté, Je m'appelle Kelchek Rivière. Pleasure to meet you, my name is Kelchek. He lowered his head in a respectful bow and smiled. "Though I'm not familiar with Eluniar Isle, or this place for that matter. This whole place is a mystery to me."

He looked at her with a new, and youthful look on his face. He hoped that she was the person who could answer his questions, and he had a lot more in store for her if she was.

The smile on Theora's face was bright when Kelchek jumped to his feet. She had little doubt that her magic would heal him, but it still warmed her heart to see the effects first hand. It made the priestess happy to know that she could make a difference in a person's life, even if it was something as simple as healing their injuries.

Her smile softened when he knelt before her, and she bowed her head in return. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Kelchek," she said in the same language that he used. She was well-versed in many languages, even those that had long since died out in the world. It was a necessary skill for a priestess, and something she did not get to enjoy very often. English was the universal language here.

"Eluniar Isle is a beautiful place, but it is guarded by old magic and is hidden from sight. Much like this place. This is Elysium, an ancient Elven land that is now home to many people. A haven from the world outside." She looked at him with curious eyes, and wondered how he could not know about the place in which he now lived. It was possible, of course, but still uncanny. Theora relaxed onto the grass alongside her new friend, feet tucked underneath her body hidden by the folds of her robe. "Is there anything you would like to know about this place, Kelchek? I will assist you in any way that I am able."

Kelchek's eyes widened as she replied in french... she didn't look French, but maybe she was a scholar. He listened to her tone of voice as she explained the isle, and their current residents. She almost sounded skeptical, like she shouldn't have had to answer. He found out that this wasn't the case when she offered to answer more of his questions.

Elysium... He thought to himself. He looked around himself, "So this is where my brother was bringing me when I fell into a coma. A lot must have happen since that spring..." His voice drifted off as his brain brought back pictures from his past. "Everything else is gone now, isn't it." He said, not really questioning her. He could feel his face becoming warm as his eyes started to water.

He took a deep breath and tried to compose himself. He lifted his face upward as he wiped his eyes. "Sorry..." Kelchek felt ashamed. He wondered how long it would be before he could come to terms with what happened. He didn't want to be the overly emotional one that was incapable of having a real conversation with someone.

Theora was a worldly scholar, and she had learned many languages over the course of her lifetime. She did have a love for languages in general, but it was her firm belief that the Elvish language was by far the most lyrical, and beautiful.

The tone of the moment became somber as Kelchek reminisced his past. Theora felt sorrow for her elven brethren. She understood the difficulty of having to deal with a completely new world. It seemed that Kelchek had been unconscious for quite some time, and that he had missed much of what had happened in the world. The priestess worried that her new acquaintance would have a hard time dealing with the current state of the world; but elves were a resilient race, and her worry disappeared once she remembered that.

"Most everything has been destroyed," she said softly. "But you do not need to apologize for your emotions," she added to reassure him. "It is natural to feel confusion, and sadness in a situation like this. This is much for you to take in." Theora reached forward to take Kelchek's hand into her own. "Take as much time as you need to adjust, just know that you are not alone."

Every thing's... destroyed... Her voice was soft and almost soothing as she spoke. He was thankful for the way she put it, clear and to the point. His breathing slowed and his face was emotionless. This is how it is now, I just have to adjust. His attempt at mentally assuring himself failed. If I can.

Kelchek was some what relieved when she reached out and took his hand. He felt the courage he knew that he had within himself surface. He knew that there was something about this elf, something he couldn't quite put his finger on, that made him feel okay. He wondered if it could be more of her magic, or maybe just being near her. Her attitude, her aura, made him feel more assured about things... about this new place. He was definitely not alone.

His mind fixated on his the people he had recently met, leaned on the fact that he could trust them. Susie had offered him friendship, and saved his life, he felt comfortable with Theora, and Adela. Oh Shit! He thought instantly as his eyes widened. How could I have forgotten about Adela! She all but babysat me while I was asleep and I just walked out on her! He felt a wave a guilt pass thought him, but needed to find out more things about Elysium. As much as he didn't want to, he pushed the thought toward the back of his mind before attacking Theora with questions.

"So this is a safe haven, how does everyone survive here? Do you grow your own food? How big is this place?" Each question poured out of his mouth without leaving time for her to respond. "How do you get supplies? How do you make money? Do you even have money here?" He took a deep breath before asking more questions but quickly covered his mouth with both hands to stop his eager tongue from asking more. Patiently, well as patiently as possible, he waited for her replies eager to ask more.

It was not uncommon for people to feel a sense of ease, and calm around Theora. It was innate in her very being; a part of her immense training as a priestess, but more a part of her kind, and loving spirit. She felt the confusion inside of Kelchek, and she sought to ease it the best she could. But soothing a person's soul, and heart was not as easy as soothing the physical pains of their body. It took a nurturing touch, and that was not a gift everyone held.

She smiled at the questions that Kelchek threw her way, and never once did she let go of his hands. He still needed a comforting gesture while she explained the workings of the haven to him. Theora laughed when he pulled his hands away to cover his mouth, and she settled upon the grass before she answered him.

"The haven is safe from the virus, and the radiation. It was established months before tragedy struck the world, and we brought as many people as we could here. Our food is grown in our own lands to the west, and we have enough to sustain the people who live here. Supplies were gathered before the war, and there have been occasions where we have ventured out into the world to look for other items we may need for survival. There is no need for money here in Elysium; everything is provided for without needing to buy it. Trade is allowed if people wish, but it is not necessary."

She answered Kelchek's questions almost in the same manner as he asked them except she was much more calm, and subdued. Theora knew that the elf had more questions in his mind, and she would answer as many as she could.

Kelchek relaxed his body as they sat in the grass talking. Maybe it was the fact that they were both elves, or maybe she was just a very warm hearted person, but for what ever reason he felt comfortable talking to her, and knew that what she said was truth. she had no reason to lie to him, and the thought that she might never even crossed his mind. He asked his questions and listened eagerly to her replies, some of them comforting, some of them that confused his a little more than when he started, and some that only brought down his mood.

"So are there still survivors out there?" His voice quieted as he asked. He didn't have anyone in mind as he asked, but he had met many different people though out the years and would hate to know that without any doubt that they were all dead. He wished that he could take back his question. The silence that followed was unbearable long, even if it was only a few seconds. He had no way of knowing what she would say, if anything, but he was pretty sure it wasn't going to be good.

Questions with no definitive answer often lead to more questions, and confusion, and it was not Theora's intention to create that within Kelchek. It was just the state of the world, and there was not a person on the planet who understood every single aspect of it. Though the priestess had been alive for nearly eight-hundred years she still found things that confused, and amazed her. Life was always changing for better or worse, and it was that fact that allowed her to cope with whatever situation came to pass.

"There are survivors," she answered with a smile. "Elysium is not the only haven in the world, and people have learned to survive in places outside of the havens. Every creature on this planet has the amazing ability to survive even in the most distressing of times." She knew that Kelchek, along with everyone else in the haven, had been through so much since the virus and the war. It was hard to keep hope in such a bleak environment, but Theora knew it was only a matter of time before people found themselves back on their feet. The world would be rebuilt by their hands, families would be reunited, and new families would be created. This was not the end, not in the very least.

"Many lives were lost," she added after a moment or two. "But many lives were also saved. You must not let the grief of loss consume you; rather, you must look beyond it, and toward the future. There is much to come, and the important thing is to never give up."

Everything around them fell silent as Kelchek fought to keep himself calm and composed. It wasn't easy and he was sure that it showed on his face, but he tired. His eyes sparkled a little at her assurance of survivors, though he couldn't think of anyone in particular. Other safe havens? He wondered who could be there, and where there could be. He shook his head in agreement to her advise and council. He would keep as much of a positive out look as he could muster.

"Where are these other safe haven? Are they bigger then this one?" He realized that the second question would hold no merit, he didn't even know how big this place- Elysium- was. He wondered how anyone, if things were as bad as they seemed, would live outside of this beautiful place, and why they would want to. From what he had seen so far things were quite will off. He had no doubt that humanity would once again thrive on this small planet, though he knew it would take many more years for things to kick start back toward where it left off.

"Is there any plan for the boundaries of this place to be expanded?" He had always had a knack for planning for the future, even the very distant future. "What efforts would it take to do that?" He had set his mind on this, and nothing was going to stop him from thinking about it. Not even being told no. He also had a knack for holding on to something until he fully understood it, and put in ALL of his two cents.
