Who: Jordan - open
What: Taking a walk at night
When: Very late at night
Where: Out on the road

The djinn was in a restless mood. It was far too cold, and she hated the cold. Thankfully she could warm herself up. She couldn't just sit at home though, she wanted to walk. It had started pacing back and forth her place, but eventually she just left. Now she was walking out on the road, with her arms crossed in front of herself and trying to figure out why she was so restless. She couldn't sleep, she couldn't dream, none of it. Everything seemed to have her on edge lately. She was feeling isolated, and though she only brought it upon herself, she felt lonely. Honestly she had no idea how to get around that though because she was so not a people person, and not being lonely meant being decent to people. Go figure.

So she walked, and kept her arms wrapped around herself, exhaling a large breath, so cold that she could see it in front of her.

Jordan wasn’t the only one in a restless mood. The very same mood had struck Adam ever since he decided to move out of his home with his alchemist and into a quiet cottage in the farmlands. It was peaceful out there with only the occasional animals for company and the vast amount of trees, and Adam had felt it was best to begin some sort of life on his own. He had spent so long attached to Constance’s hip, he never thought about making a life for himself. Everyone else knew who they were, but the only life Adam knew was that of Constance’s elemental. He realized maybe now it was time for him to start.

He was walking alone at night, seeking fresh air and time to sort out some of his thoughts. Adam knew it would probably be futile in one night alone, but it didn’t mean he couldn’t give it a try. He was tired of asking for help with what to do instead of figuring it out on his own. He was, by many people’s standards, a grown man with a mind of his own. Adam hated his mind at the moment, though, and his walk turned brisk as he breathed in the cold night air.

When he spotted the woman ahead, Adam thought first of remaining quiet, but it wasn’t quite in his nature. He paused, looked up at the sky briefly, and aimed his eyes back at the woman on her own nightly walk. He waited until she drew closer before speaking. “Busy mind?” Adam asked, hoping it wasn’t an intrusion.

Whether or not she sensed Adam approaching, or heard the fall of his footsteps remained to be seen. Jordan didn't really act like she'd sensed someone until he spoke up to her. Oddly enough, she wasn't in the mood to snap at the man and tell him to go away. In fact, no amount of anger even stirred up inside of her. Perhaps being out in the cold dulled her senses a bit. Which was probably a good thing for him, so he didn't get harrassed by the obnoxious djinn.

That wasn't to say that she was quite grateful for being interrupted, but she was rarely grateful for anything. Her head lifted at the sound of his voice, and she regarded the man in front of her. With her hands still stuck in her pockets, she nodded her head a bit. "As a matter of fact, yes. Or it's entirely possible that it's not busy at all. I'm not really sure which is worse," she confessed.

It was entirely out of the ordinary for her to release that much information, but it just sort of came out. Hm. "And yours? I didn't think anyone else was foolish enough to venture out here at night but me."

Adam couldn’t help but cast his gaze over their surroundings at her question. Given the recent news in the haven, venturing out at night seemed to be a careless choice. The peace had been interrupted permanently after the knowledge of a murderer in their midst. Adam did not know much about murderers, only that they committed crimes he couldn’t dream of doing. He was young, though, and inexperienced with the world.

“Yes,” he admitted with a shrug of his shoulder. “It tends to be busy as of late. I have a lot of think about.” Adam didn’t speak of anything further on his own matters so soon. She was a new person to him, and he wasn’t looking to ostracize her by making her annoyed with him. He searched for a bench, but there wasn’t one.

“And I think that depends,” he said, considering her first words. “Too busy can wear you out, but so can silence.” Adam preferred a fair amount somewhere in between the two. Moderation always made a better friend than too much or too little. “Do you mind if I join you on your walk?” he asked, hoping it wasn’t too much of an intrusion.

The fact that there was a murderer on the loose didn't seem to phase Jordan much at all. Though nothing really did for some reason. She was just larger than life, and had lived such a long time that it was hard for her to be scared of anything anymore. "Busy's .. busy," she answered noncommittally. "Though if you're looking for a place to think, I suppose out here is as good as any other place. She wouldn't blame him for not wanting to talk about it. She hardly screamed 'please come talk to me' or anything like that.

Her head nodded just a bit, "Too much of anything one way or the other is bad for you." That much she definitely knew. Moderation sure, that was key but it was also boring. Did she mind though? That was another question all together. Finally, she shook her head. "No, I don't mind." She shoved her hands in her pockets and started to walk again, this time a bit more slowly.

"You do know there's a murderer out there, don't you?"

Adam faintly smiled, focusing his gaze briefly to the ground as he joined her. He was the type of person to ease himself into a conversation, and he wasn’t going to say too much at once unless he knew the person really well. These days Adam didn’t know too many people very well, and separating himself from his family lowered the amount of people he knew drastically.

“To be honest, I don’t really know what I’m doing out here,” he said with a shrug of his shoulders. “I’m just . . . out.” Being under house arrest for as long as he was wore down on him. It was good to be out again and not confined to the inside of a house. He thought about what she said and knew the truth of it. Too much of anything was bad for you, and he had indulged himself in that problem too much as of late. “That’s something I’m trying to clean myself of,” Adam admitted. “It’s gotten me into a lot of trouble lately, and it hasn’t done anything good for me.”

Adam’s mind skipped for a moment as he remembered the news he heard about the murderer. He recalled what happened to Zach and felt his insides clench up at his outward show of ignoring the situation. Most family would visit family in a time like this, but Adam was avoiding them. He figured he invested himself too much in their lives and it had only messed things up further when he did, so he was backing off for now—even if it hurt to do so.

“Yeah,” Adam said, nodding his head, “I know about the murderer.” He glanced over at Jordan. “I’m not really worried about that.” He let out a sigh and scratched the back of his head. “The proper authorities will take care of it, and until then, I might as well continue on with my life, right?” He sounded so different from his usual self, but it was all a part of him trying to grow up.

Jordan didn't know anyone actually. Well not enough to say that she actually knew them. There had been those people she talked to before, some that she'd pissed off, and others that she hadn't but all in all there wasn't anything in those conversations that could make her say that she knew a person. She was the epitome of aloneness. Generally that was how she liked it though, but even if she didn't, she had no idea how to go about making that work. Not anymore.

She nodded her head a bit, "Me too I suppose. Just out to be out." There wasn't really a reason for her to be there either. At his words, she couldn't help but look over at him. "Well don't take it overboard. Too little of something is generally just as bad." Not that she was anyone to give advice to anyone else, but it was out of her mouth before she could stop herself.

Lord she needed a cigarette. "Not worried? I suppose you're one of those that can take care of themselves right? I mean, whatever you happen to be." Most of the people she knew were like that, but then when she had the said murder victims down at the funeral home getting ready to bury them and who knew what else, it was hard for her to believe it. "Proper authorities. Right." Somehow she didn't sound convinced.

Adam laughed at her comment, shaking his head in response. “I’m not planning to take it overboard,” he said, looking over at her with amusement clear on his features. “But if you want to stick around to make sure I don’t, you’re welcome. It seems no matter what I need some sort of chaperone. Since I’m trying to do this . . . alone thing, I won’t have my family around to do that for me anymore.” Which was the whole point, if Adam really considered it. He was supposed to be taking a break from them to learn his own limits and gain his own life.

Adam nodded his head and held out his arm to demonstrate for her. The skin morphed, turning into a dark green vine that stretched out and grew, powerful and deadly if used right. Adam let his arm morph back to normal and tucked it back into his pocket with a shrug. “I’m an elemental. I’ve always been good at taking care of myself.”

His eyes flitted over to her as she said something about the ‘proper authorities.’ Adam wasn’t sure what she meant, but he felt as though there was something scathing in the remark. A part of him even had to agree, but the murderer had been tricky and sly, more so than most murderers. “They do their best, but . . . serial killers are tough, aren’t they? Hard to find, tough to catch.” Adam released a huff of air from his lungs. “Understanding them is practically impossible.”

A chaperon. Great. Now she was a chaperon. Jordan tried very hard not to roll her eyes at the guy. She was trying this whole 'being nice' thing if you could call it that. "If you need a chaperon still, it sounds like you might still need your family around. Though whether you get what you want is always in question. The alone thing is not all it's cracked up to be, trust me." The last part she said with less of a harsh tone then she'd had before, soft almost. It was obvious that she knew from experience. "Not when you get to be as old as I am, and alone for most of that time."

Watching as he morphed his skin into a vine, she looked a bit impressed. "That's good, it can come in handy I suspect." Though she wondered why he hadn't given it any thought that she could be the killer. Not that she was, but she could have been. Though she knew that he was young, and she didn't know how experienced he really was in handling himself, but well hopefully neither would have to find out.

"Yes, serial killers are tough. Otherwise, they'd just be a killer as in one. Because well then, they'd be caught wouldn't they? If they were good enough to get the killer on one try." Or something like that. "Yes, understanding a monster is.. next to impossible unless you are one yourself."

Adam shrugged his shoulders as she brought up his family. “I was mostly kidding,” he told her. The idea of someone following him around twenty-four seven would have drove even someone like Adam mad. It was one thing for him to stay by his alchemist’s side, but it was another thing altogether when he couldn’t get alone time because of someone completely different. He considered her words quietly before saying something out loud to them. “Well, it’s not that I want to be alone. It’s . . . more complicated than that. I don’t . . . ” Adam had to pause to think of how to word it. “I don’t think enough for myself than I do for others when I’m around others. So, I’m trying to learn what I want, and to do that, I need to be alone.” There, Adam thought he had worded it properly.

Quietly, he wondered how old she was since she mentioned it, but he didn’t ask. It wasn’t a dire thing for him to know. “It can come in handy,” he agreed, “but sometimes it isn’t the best thing in the world to be able to do.” Adam learned the hard way that being strong didn’t always lead to the right decisions. He had hurt someone innocent in the process of abusing his power. “It’s not the only thing I can do. It’s just one of them.” But he didn’t feel like a demonstration on everything. Now was not the time for that.

“To be honest, I’ve never given much thought to killers,” Adam admitted. He didn’t know all that much about them. “It’s just one of those things. Why bother? If it’s something you need to know because you hunt them down, then it’s important. But if you’re just a regular person, it doesn’t have a purpose for you.”

It was a good thing that he was mostly kidding, and she tried not to look too relieved about the whole thing. No need to offend the guy. She just nodded her head a bit, but didn't say anything to him. What was there to say? Oh, and that's it? But his explanation of what he was doing all alone and what he wanted struck a cord somewhere inside of her. Her head nodded a bit again, "Well like I said, too much or too little of something in either direction is probably a bad idea. Though I can't really say anything, I have the exact opposite problem. I'd have no idea how to do anything for anyone else." She always looked out for herself and that was it. And so far she didn't have a problem with that. There wasn't a reason or a person she had to look after. No one wanted to be around her and that was ... mostly okay with her.

"Everyone's schtick or power or whatever you want to call it can backfire. It never produces just good things, so at least you're not alone in that. It happens to everyone." That much she did know because she was just that old. She ran into just about every kind of species and they all had that in common. "They all take learning."

Her eyebrows raised up a bit, "Monsters don't go after people who just know about them. They go after everyone. Anyone. Maybe you shouldn't know everything, but enough to know that they're around and to keep your eyes open."

Adam glanced over at Jordan, finding himself intrigued at her problem. It was the exact opposite of his, and yet he didn’t need an explanation for it. There were people in the world who just looked after themselves, and Adam never tried to be one of those people. He wasn’t looking to become someone who never lent a hand, but distancing himself from the urge to butt into everything was an important lesson for him to learn. Adam couldn’t save everyone, and sometimes he wasn’t in the right place to be the one saving.

He smiled at the small bit of advice and nodded his head. “I know,” he told her. “Learning is the part I’m working on. It feels like I’ve been learning all my life, and I’m starting to wonder if it’ll ever stop.” He knew it wasn’t going to, but it didn’t stop the wishing or the hoping; sometimes it even felt like dreading.

She had a point there, not that Adam hadn’t consider it, but he chose to ignore things on occasion. Instead of debate with her on it, a smile came to his face. “You’re the type who likes to know what you’re talking about, aren’t you?” he asked, though it wasn’t meant to be mean in any way. “Sort of like scientists and lawyers and people like that. It sounds like knowledge is one of those things you grasp for.”

Adam gestured at his own chest. “Take me for instance,” he said. “I like to know what I’m talking about, but I don’t really have to. It doesn’t bother me very much if I slip and make a mistake. That’s just life.” His eyes turned to take in her profile, and he hoped nothing he said sounded offending. Adam couldn’t always tell the difference between frank and too frank.

"Doubtful," she told him gently. Well gently for her anyway. "Even when you're my age, you're still learning things." At least that was her own opinion. God knew that she didn't know half of the things that she probably should. After all, she cut herself off from everyone and everything for so long that it was hard not to feel anything else besides that. "I've always wondered what it was like to take care of someone and to have someone to care for. But.. I don't think anyone would give me the opportunity to do that." Very and highly doubtful. It was something she just had to live with though.

That was something she hadn't admitted to anyone. Perhaps she was just feeling sentimental that evening. Especially since she was in an actual 'good mood'. She hm'd a bit at his words, trying to choose her words carefully. "I suppose so. I guess that I've just been around so long that you pick up all sorts of useless things. But I suppose so. I do like knowledge."

She liked it better than a bunch of other stuff, anyway.

Hm'ing again, her shoulder shrugged. "I don't think I have.. pride about it. Pride about other things, but probably not making a mistake. Those are the times you learn the most." And the fact that she hadn't been insulting to him at all said wonders. What exactly it said remained to be said though. Though sadly he wouldn't know much of the difference, unless he caught her in a bad mood one day.

She drew Adam’s curiosity with her remark about how she’d like to take care for someone. He thought about what she meant by it and decided to ask her. “Do you mean like take care of someone when they’re hurt, or take care of a child or someone older — or just in general?” So far, from what he could at least tell from their conversation, she seemed adverse to the idea of taking care of people or being close to them; therefore, her admittance surprised him a little.

“How long have you been around?” Adam asked her, finding himself interested in knowing more. He knew a handful of people who lived long lives, and each of them seemed so different from one another. Adam supposed long lives could make all sorts of diverse individuals out of people. He himself hadn’t lived that long, nor experienced very much to go by.

Adam rarely caught onto insults, but he also hardly ever took things personally. Even when people were in bad moods, he often accepted it and simply felt bad for bothering them when they were upset. Eventually, both parties would get over it as far as Adam was concerned. He smiled at her response, turning his gaze forward as they walked.

Suddenly, he wondered where they were walking. He realized he wasn’t paying much attention, his feet merely following the path laid out ahead of them. “Where are we going, by the way?” Adam asked with a laugh.

For a moment, Jordan had to think about what she meant by take care of someone. And if she admitted that much, she might as well admit the whole thing instead of just write i off like she hadn't said anything at all. Half of her wanted to do just that not just because it was a matter of pride, but because she wasn't quite sure she knew the answer to his question. "I.. suppose all of the above? I guess in general. Though I've taken care of people who've been hurt, and it's not always a personal thing, so perhaps not as much that. Just.. being close in general, maybe not even taking care of them." After all, she didn't take care of her parents when they were around.

Thankfully his second question she could answer much easier than the last one. "Just shy of five hundred years," she answered him with a nod of her head. "I'm.. middle aged for my species." She knew that there were people out there as old as she was, if not older. And they were most definitely all different from each other. The only other djinn she knew that was around was completely the opposite of her.

As soon as he asked where they were going, she kind of slowed down to a stop and then looked around. Honestly, she hadn't been paying any attention as to where they were. It wasn't like she was lost, but still. Her shoulders shrugged, "I .. have no idea. I was just wandering until I got bored and then I'd hope to find my way home. You're not cold?" she was just making sure since she wasn't. It was rare for her to get cold at all, considering what she was.

It was funny how her mind was headed in the opposite direction as his mind. Adam was trying to separate himself from the people around him and the conflict of protecting them, but Jordan seemed to be interested in the very idea he was running away from. A part of him thought it was ironic that he should share one of his first conversations since his decision to be on his own with a person like her. Given her experience with people, she was the type of person Adam was trying to be now, but it sounded almost like she was tired of it. Much like he was tired of his own life.

“That’s a long time to live,” Adam said. He had a feeling he wasn’t going to live that long himself, not if he remained an elemental, but he couldn’t be sure of how long he’d live if he wasn’t one anymore. Probably not very long either way. “I don’t think I have that much time,” he added, shrugging his shoulders against the cold night air. “I’m twenty-six right now. I’ll be lucky if I have five or ten more years.” Adam recalled how Constance said she was tired of taking the carmot. If she stopped taking it, she’d age a little bit more and eventually die. He would die, too, if he was still attached to her.

Adam glanced around and looked off into the distance to see if he could spot the town nearby. He wasn’t sure just where he had been walking either. “We could look for a place to sit down,” he suggested. “Somewhere warm. I am sort of cold.” Adam squished his arms against his sides in a childlike manner, smiling as he did so. “Some places in town stay open late.”

For her it was pretty easy to find someone who was the opposite of her. She seemed to find people who were at least friendly enough or just more outgoing than she was to converse with. Okay, so they found her. They bugged her and nagged her and all of that until she snapped and they finally realized they should just let her be. So she was pretty used to it, even if she didn't really say anything about wishing she wasn't so uptight as she was. It seemed like they were both trying to be more like each other, which was something. Of course, Jordan didn't believe she could be like that at all.

"Suppose so. I know older people, but most of them aren't as cranky and ill mannered as I am," and at least she knew it. She knew that she wasn't a people person and thus people stayed away from her. Thankfully she wasn't oblivious. "Only five or ten more years?" she tried to remember what she knew about Elementals and then nodded her head a bit. "I suppose you don't see it as being enslaved though? Since you were created?" she ventured, not wanting to pry too much.

She nodded her head briefly, "All right, let's go in some place warm. Though if you're cold.." she put out her hand. She didn't do that very often. "I promise not to burn you." He wasn't being a jerk smart ass, so she wouldn't hurt him. But she was warm, and he'd probably be warmed up by touching her hand if he ventured to do so.

“You don’t seem that cranky or ill-mannered to me,” Adam replied in all honestly, though maybe he had caught her during a good moment. “Maybe the people you’ve encountered so far are just . . . ” Adam had to think of a word. Eventually, one came to him. “Pushy?” He shrugged, though it was mostly to himself. “People can have good intentions but still get on your nerves.” He had a distinct, niggling feeling that he might have been one of those people once upon a time.

Adam shook his head at her question. He hardly saw being an elemental as slavery. “No,” Adam replied. “It’s just what I am. We’re born what we’re born.” He lived a nice life with Constance, and he wasn’t once treated in any way like a lesser life form or a slave. Constance raised him like he was her own flesh and blood, even if he wasn’t.

“My alchemist is fairly old,” Adam went on to reveal. “She probably doesn’t have much longer to live, especially if she stops taking her carmot or has some kind of accident.” That was a scary thought to think about, but Adam knew in all possibility it was the most likely scenario. “I doubt I’ve got much longer if I remain bound to her, but I refused to be separated. I like being what I am, and I don’t want to trade it up for a longer life.”

He glanced to her and then looked down at her offered hand. He took what she said literally and assumed she had a power; it was the opposite thinking of a human, but it was normal thinking for someone like him—an elemental born of a different mind. “Sure,” Adam said, and he accepted her hand. “Hopefully, I won’t light up like chimney,” he replied, the little joke he made bringing a smile to his face.

It was entirely too amusing that he didn't think that she was cranky ill-mannered. And if she'd been that kind of person, she would have probably laughed at it, though she wasn't that kind of person at all. Instead she just gave a head shake and kind of smirked. "They are pushy, no doubt about that. Pushy and obnoxious, definitely but I'm definitely not the nicest person. Far far.. far from it." Though she was sure that they had good intentions, at least some of them, but she didn't really care much about anyone's intentions. If it came across as obnoxious, that's what it was.

It was true that people were born how they were born, there wasn't any real control over that. But the fact that he didn't see it as slavery made her a bit curious. "Well I suppose I can see where not wanting to live a long time would have some advantages, like I said it's not all it's cracked up to be. And I can certainly understand not wanting to be anything else other than what you were. I certainly wouldn't want to be anything other than what I am." Even if it actually came with slavery, and she'd been a slave before in her life. She still wouldn't trade it.

When he accepted her hand, he'd notice that it was very warm, just her skin was that way. But the warmth spread through his hand and up his arm and through the rest of him so that he could be warmed up a bit. Like raising his temperature a degree or so, just enough that he wasn't cold anymore. "No, I think I've been around long enough to make sure that I don't set people on fire when I touch them. Though that would certainly explain my temperament. Better?"

“Living long isn’t an issue,” Adam told her, shrugging his shoulders as he spoke. He never thought much about time, even though he knew his time on earth seemed like it was meant to be short. There were ways around every rule, and nothing was written in stone. “I’m sort of indifferent to it,” he admitted with a barely visible smile. Time never was very important to Adam, not when he knew he wouldn’t really die upon his physical death. He would only return to the form he had before Constance called him into a body, a time he hardly remembered in any clear way but had small flashings of feelings and thoughts from all the same.

“But it’s true I wouldn’t know what to be at all if I wasn’t an elemental anymore,” he continued on to say. “It’s part of who I am as much as moving or eating, and I don’t think I’d ever get used to being anything else. It’d be like losing a limb and still feeling it there when it’s gone.” Adam fell quiet for a moment, the wind being the only thing he could hear aside from their footsteps crunching on the ground. “Seems like it would torment a person.”

As they walked for a bit longer, he felt the coldness slip away and leave a comfortable warmth behind, which bloomed underneath the sleeve of his coat at first and then traveled up his arm to his torso. Eventually, it spread to the rest of him and left him feeling cozy as if he was sitting before a fireplace at night with a cup of hot cocoa in hand. Adam looked down at their hands, knowing what she had done. “Much better,” Adam answered her. “I wish I could do something like that. It would come in handy.”

A funny thought struck him then, and Adam had to try and recall if he ever learned her name over the course of their conversation until he realized he hadn’t heard it yet. He gazed over at Jordan with a curious expression to match the statement that came next out of his mouth. “I can’t even address you because I don’t think I know your name. Mine’s Adam, by the way.”

Jordan supposed that she knew too many people who just wanted to keep on living, and didn't know many that were okay with a short life span. "Well it's good that either way you're settled and resolved I suppose." It meant that he didn't really have any unfinished business, or something he wanted to keep on doing. That was to be admired, she guessed. She didn't actively have anything at all keeping her around except for the fact that she was just one of those kinds that lived a long time. Just the fact that she'd been through so many wars sad a lot. Then again, she knew better than to get involved with war now, and she wasn't actively looking for a way out. Things weren't that bad.

Her head nodded a bit, "I wouldn't know who or what I was if I wasn't a djinn either." Well at least she said it out loud. Had she said it before, what she was? Really, she couldn't remember in the course of their conversation. But now he knew. "The only time I've ever wished to not be what I am, is when I was a slave." Which wasn't that long ago. Just around the time that he'd been born actually, though it was like it was just yesterday for her. "But still there's no way to get out of that sort of thing, even when you are a slave." Lots of people were enslaved, humans and the like but they weren't actually bound by something stronger than another person. Maybe that was why she didn't like them that much. "I'm sure it would."

She would have smiled then, but honestly Jordan rarely knew how to smile. It would feel weird coming from her lips and she didn't want to scare him off by looking like a mad woman. Though for just a moment, she tried it out. "Good. It does come in handy, at least during the winter. It's a bit of a pain in the summer, but that's the time I like the best anyway." And see? She hadn't even lit him on fire or anything like that. As long as he was warm, she'd done her good deed for the century.

Her name? That came as a surprise, "Oh, well Adam, it's nice to meet you. I'm.. Anerael, though not many people can say it so usually people just call me Jordan. It was one of the first countries I'd ever been to outside of my own, so I just.. picked it up. Did yours name you after the first human man, or did they just like the name?" Curiosity, she supposed.

It was the first moment Adam learned for certain that she was a djinn, though it was one of suspicions when he heard of her age. Few species lived up to five hundred years, and even fewer considered that to be middle-aged for their species. His brows furrowed at the unpleasant thought of her enslavement, and he frowned as he looked ahead of them. “I’m sorry that happened to you,” he replied, “but it sounds like you’ve dealt with it. That’s always a good thing as far as I know.” If Adam knew anything, he knew letting things eat you from the inside out was the worst way to handle anything.

“Why do you like summer the best?” Adam inquired, glancing over at her with a genuinely curious expression on his face. He couldn’t help but wonder why she liked summer the best, even if it was such a menial question. Life was made out of menial things more than it was made of spectacular ones.

He actually laughed when she addressed him by his name, though it was the surprise in her tone that sparked such a reaction out of him. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, too, Anerael,” Adam said, choosing to call her the first name he was told. “And yes, I was named after the first human man, though I think Constance chose it because of the meaning more than anything. She thought it was a very poetic name, especially since I came out of the earth and almost every fable in the world says the first man was made out of the earth.” He smiled to himself and turned to look at her. “I guess the first man was an earth elemental.”

Letting out a breath of warm hair that formed steam when it came from her lips, her shoulder shrugged slightly. "I'm not sure dealt with is the appropriate term. I'm not sure one can deal with doing things against their will." Sure there was slavery in a lot of ways with humanity, but it wasn't quite the same. There was no physical way for her to get out of it, her body and her mind would not let her do anything but obey the person in control of her. And so she'd done things that she'd never wanted to do. That was usually the case when people enslaved djinn anyway. "But I suppose I'm.. as fine as I can be." Though it probably explained some things about her.

"Well I'm an ifrit.. I like for it to be warm. It feels most like.. the rest of me," she suggested. "My temperature inside corresponds with the one outside? I'm not quite sure. Everything is more alive then. Cold is nearly the opposite of me. It's not my favorite time." That was the only thing she could think of, though honestly she'd never thought about it before.

That was true, as she was now remembering, that Adam had been made out of the earth. Jordan nodded her head and actually looked pleased to be called by her real name instead of her human one. "It's very fitting, I think. It suits you. You look like an Adam. And thank you.." though she didn't say what exactly she was thanking him for, maybe he'd just figure it out or something. "She sounds like a wise woman." Not that she knew many of those, that was for sure.

Adam remained quiet at first, letting her speak on both things before he said anything in reply. “That makes sense,” Adam finally said after she explained why summer was her favorite month. “I like being outside in a natural setting more than I like being indoors or in the city. I guess our nature pulls us in certain directions, huh?” he asked, but she could take it as a rhetorical question.

“You’re welcome,” he said, even if he didn’t know the real reason why she thanked him. He thought maybe it was just her saying thank you after he said it was nice to meet her. “She is a wise woman,” Adam agreed, “but she’s also brash, and sometimes she lets her emotions cloud her judgment.” He gave off a little smile, realizing how much alike he and his alchemist really were. “I guess that’s where I get it from. I don’t always think things through the way I should. Keeping a calm head is harder than most people think in certain situations, especially those close to home.”

"Mmm, yes I suppose you're right," was all she said. It was kind of true. After all, she spent most of her time at the mausoleum, and with dead people and the mourning. It was in that way, just who she was like everything else. She didn't know any other djinn's who liked the job though. But she did.

Her head nodded a bit knowingly, "It is very hard to keep calm, that is for sure. It looks like I'm calm most of the time, but inside I'm not. Even though I've tried not to show or have much emotion at all really, inside it's a bit like a ticking time bomb." At least she could be honest about it, though she wondered if that would put him off wanting to speak to her again, knowing that she could just go off at any moment. "Especially close to those at home. Guess that's another reason I keep my distance. For their safety, as well as my own.."

Just ahead she spotted her own house, right there across the road and she slowed down a bit, "Well I'm afraid my place is right there, so I suppose I should get inside. It was.. actually very nice meeting you, Adam. And I don't say that to many people."

More than anything, Adam felt like he could relate to that. Sometimes he felt like a ticking time bomb himself, and he had begun to wonder if maybe in this new world he was a danger to those he loved instead of a savior. So many people got hurt because of him, and so many of them were innocent. It wasn’t something he wanted to become known for, but he wasn’t sure what he was even trying to become. “I can relate,” Adam finally agreed out loud. “I somewhat that way myself.”

He looked up when she mentioned it and spotted the house with his eyes. A small smile came to his face, and he glanced back at her to tilt his head in her direction in a sort of nod of farewell. “Well, it was nice meeting you, too. And neither one of us should probably stay out too late, so . . . take care.” Adam released her hand and tucked both of his inside of his coat pockets. With that, he smiled one last time and turned around to look for the road towards his own home for the night.
