Who: Mitsuko, Logan and Adrienne
When: Late evening
Where: Kamiyama-Nagamori/Jung cottage
What: A dinner between friends after organization fun

Mitsuko opened the oven and peeked in at the cooking steak. She licked her lips and poked at it carefully with a fork, not quite piercing the flesh. It was nice and rare on the inside, she could tell. Perfect for a pair of Kitsune and a Lycanthrope. She just hoped Charlie would be okay with it as well.

She put on an oven mitt and pulled the meat out of the oven, setting it down onto the table. She then placed down a side of greens and some rolls from the bakery. "I think we're just about ready to go," she said to Adrienne. "Let me just go call the boys."

Tranforming into her fox form, she darted out of the room and her soft fur-covered footsteps could be heard going up the stairs. "Logan! Charlie!" she called out. "We're ready to eat if you're done with your things!"

Mitsuko went back down into the kitchen with Adrienne. She grabbed a bottle of wine and began to uncork it. "Thanks for the help, Ookami-chan. I didn't realize just how settled I'd gotten in the other cottage."

Mitsuko and Logan had moved to a larger cottage. With Charlie and Chris now living with them the old one was too small. They had moved several days ago, but the last of the unpacking and organizing had only happened today (truthfully, Mitsuko probably would have finished had she not taken a 'stress relieving break' the night before at Sascha and Irei's).

She held out a glass of wine to Adrienne. "I can't believe it. Less than six months ago, the Council was saying I'm not mature enough to take care of three kids... Guess I showed them." She puffed out her chest briefly in pride, before dramatically deflating. "Of course, back then I didn't have much of a social life. I guess that's going to change." Certainly, sneaking out for sleepovers with Irei and Sascha should probably be curbed. Leaving a seventeen year old was one thing, but a seventeen year old and a pair of fourteen year olds? That seemed like a recipe for trouble.

Logan crept into the room silently. He went to Mitsuko's side and leaned in, whispering in her ear. Mitsuko frowned slightly. "Sweetie, it's Adrienne. You don't need to whisper to me."

"Charlie's asleep," Logan managed out, smiling nervously at Adrienne. "He was pretty tired."

"And Chris is still out..." Mitsuko cast a wary eye towards the door. She was going to have to keep an eye on that girl now that they were living together. But she put on a smile regardless. "I guess it's just the three of us! Sit down! I hope the food's all right, I'm still learning."

Adrienne felt a little guilty for thinking that Mitsuko hadn't cared about her. The kitsune hadn't stopped by during Adrienne's "hell week", and the girl took it entirely the wrong way. She didn't stop to think that Mitsuko might have had other things to take care of, things like moving into a new house with two more teenagers. That alone would have taken up more time than Adrienne could imagine. She didn't mention her feelings to the fox, though, and when she was asked over to help with some organizing, and for dinner she accepted immediately.

Adrienne lent her strength to the new household as they moved around furniture, and set up each of the bedrooms. Mitsuko had spent a greater part of the evening in the kitchen, and Adrienne was left alone with the kids to finish the decorating; it was the least she could do while her friend was cooking her what smelled like a wonderful dinner.

When they were able to finally sit down, and relax Adrienne joined Mitsuko for a drink. "Anytime," she said with a smile. "I had no idea you guys were moving. You should have told me sooner." The girl took a sip of her wine, and joined in congratulating Mitsuko on her new responsibility.

"The Council meant well," she said with a grin. "But you have proven yourself beyond a shadow of a doubt. Though I honestly think you could have taken care of Chris and Charlie ages ago."

Adrienne took another sip of her wine when Logan appeared in the room. The boy was so quiet that Adrienne couldn't help but wonder if he didn't like her. She chewed the inside of her cheek, and offered up a smile to Mitsuko's brother. "Hi Logan," she said brightly. She didn't want to make the boy any more nervous than he seemed, and so she turned her attention to her dinner.

"Mmmm, Mits," she said mid-chew with wide eyes. "This is really good. New recipe?" She reached for the rolls, and then handed the basket to Logan. It was her way of trying to make the boy more comfortable around her.

Of course Mitsuko cared about Adrienne. The fact she did care scared the hell out of Mitsuko and caused her to keep her distance from Adrienne following Dante's attack. There seemed to be so much tragedy around those she cared about, so many partings. It seemed so much easier to maintain her former attitude, not maintaining connections, having friends. But it was impossible. She couldn't stay away from Adrienne. She liked the girl too much. That's why she'd asked her over. She felt immensely guilty about her own feelings, but she couldn't possibly share them without coming off cold and unfeeling. So instead she would ignore it and enjoy the company of the lycanthrope.

"It just sort of... Happened," Mitsuko said, shaking her head. "Suddenly, the Council was at my door, asking me to look after Chris and Charlie. I guess they haven't been having great luck at keeping guardians." She frowned slightly. "Poor kids. After everything they went through getting to Elysium."

Her frown deepened. "That's the thing. I don't know if I've really done anything to prove it. I don't think I've done anything" She sighed, shaking her head. "Logan's pretty much grown-up. And him coming out of his shell, that just sort of... Happened. I didn't really have anything to do with it." She worried her lower lip. "Not to mention things with the Jungs are a little... Complicated." Well, maybe not the Jungs. Maybe just Chris. But she couldn't share that with Adrienne. She knew Zach was close to Hayate and Mitsuko had no idea how Adrienne felt about the vampire. "It was bad enough worrying I'd fuck up my brother, but now I've got three kids to screw over."

Logan had absolutely no problem with Adrienne. In fact, he quite liked her. She was pretty and nice and both Zach and Mitsuko liked her a lot. Being that Mitsuko was his sister and Zach was his best friend (besides Chris and Charlie), he trusted their judgement. He just didn't know Adrienne all that well and that made him nervous. He still had trouble speaking to those he didn't know well. Except Sascha. But that was... Odd.

"Hi Adrienne," Logan managed quietly, wiggling his fingers in greeting. He fidgeted and averted his gaze.

"I'm glad you like it," Mitsuko replied, giving it a try herself and finding it delicious. "I've been flirting with the cook at the restaurant to get tips. Looks like I'm going to be doing even more cooking from now on."

Logan accepted the rolls with a small smile. "We can help," Logan said quietly, taking a roll and pulling it apart meticulously, so he wouldn't have to look at the girls. "Chris and Charlie and me. I mean, you work too. And you should have some time to spend with Irei."

Mitsuko's eyes widened in surprise. "Irei? What about him?"

Logan finally managed to look up to hand the rolls to his sister. "He's your boyfriend. You went to see him last night and I didn't hear you come in until this morning."

Mitsuko nearly dropped her fork. She didn't realize Logan was so astute. But her new room was right below Logan's. He must have heard her sneak in. She took a long drink of wine. "So Adrienne, are your dad and Jason back from their trip yet?"

Adrienne knew from first hand experience how hard it was to let people get close after it seemed as if everything in life was tragic. She had cut herself off after she became a werewolf, and essentially died away from her family. She was quiet when she first attended the school that helped her with her lycanthropy, but that only made things harder for her. Solitude didn't work for the girl, and she ended up meeting Zach, and becoming closer to him that she ever imagined was possible. It was how she tried to live her life now, caring about the friends she had made in this new place they called home. She couldn't help but care about the people she met even if it did end up hurting sometimes.

As far as Adrienne could tell there was nothing complicated about the arrangement between the Jungs, and Mitsuko and Logan. The teens seemed perfectly happy as far as Adrienne saw, and there was nothing complicated about happiness. "You're not going to mess them up," she retorted. "Give yourself a little credit, and if you have any trouble just call me over. I'll take care of them for you." Adrienne cast a playful wink toward Mits, and then Logan before she continued eating her dinner. It seemed as if the kitsune's flirting was working since the food was very good.

The banter between the siblings was adorable, and Adrienne couldn't help but smile as they talked back and forth. But like Mitsuko Adrienne was a bit surprised to hear Logan use the phrase "your boyfriend" when he talked to his sister. The werewolf arched a brow as her lips curled into a smirk. She couldn't help but snicker a bit at what Logan revealed next, and she grinned at Logan.

"You're a very good brother, Logan," she said with a laugh. "At least you don't tease your sister about it like Jason does." She took a sip of her wine before continuing. "They're still with the dwarves." The thought of her dad and brother passed out with a group of rambunctious dwarves brought a smile to Adrienne's face. "I swear at this rate they're going to become honorary dwarves. Though I can't complain when they bring back that ale with them. Have you had it before? It is really potent."

Being close to people was still something entirely new for Mitsuko. She had been raised to believe she was better off alone. That attachments only brought weakness. This made is so much easier to just push away her fears by cutting herself off. It was what she knew. But deep down, she knew keeping herself away from those she cared about-- Adrienne, Logan, Irei, Sascha, Zach, Loki-- was easier said than done. But she couldn't rid herself of the fear at the idea of losing them.

Mitsuko knew she had a long road ahead of her as the guardian of these teenagers. She was barely out of her teens herself. Was she really going to be able to handle it? "Arigatou, Ookami-chan," Mitsuko said with a smile. "That means a lot to me." And it did. As much as she wanted to protect herself, that she wouldn't be doing this alone made her feel good.

What threw Mitsuko the most about Logan's statement was that he immediately assumed it was Irei she was involved with. Of course, she had spent more time around Irei and they were closer in age than her and Sascha, but could it have been more than that? Maybe Logan had been able to intuit her feelings for the necromancer. While she did care for Sascha as a friend and lover, she had to admit there was a bit more of an emotional bond between her and Irei (foolhardy and fruitless as it might have been).

"It's not funny," Logan murmured. "Irei scares me," he admitted. "But if Mitsuko's happy..." He looked down. "I just don't want you to be hurt again."

Mitsuko rose from her seat and threw her arms around Logan, hugging him tightly. "You're a good brother, Logan." She ruffled his hair. "But don't worry. Irei-kun's not my boyfriend. We were talking and it got late, so I decided to crash there." Okay, so she was partially lying and left out the sex they had in between the talking.

She gave Logan a kiss on top of the head and went back to her seat. "I stay away from most Dwarven things." Mitsuko was still a bit bitter about getting the blame for Frar and Fror's thievery. "But when your dad and Jason get back, tell them to come over for dinner sometime. I miss seeing them." She had adopted Adrienne's family as her own and if she wasn't going to be able to cut off her ties, then she wanted to enjoy them.

The interaction between Mitsuko and Logan was adorable, and in ways it reminded Adrienne of her own relationship with her brother (just in reverse, of course). It seemed as if it didn't matter whether the brother was younger or older they both would worry about their sisters regardless. Adrienne smiled softly, and laughed at Mitsuko's comment about the dwarves. The lycan was fully aware of the situation involving Fror and Frar, and how Mits was blamed in their place. She could understand her friend's bitterness, but she was also sure that she could laugh about it in a few years.

"They love the dwarves,' Adrienne said with a laugh. "They seriously love that ale." She laughed, but then turned a little rueful. "I feel bad for them, you know. They had things to do before all of this, and now they don't do anything. They don't say it out loud, but I know they feel restless." She took a bite of her dinner, and chewed slowly in contemplation. "I just wish I could help them somehow, you know?"

She sighed softly, and gave a little shrug. She didn't really want to talk about her own feelings on the subject since she felt the same way a lot of the time, too, so she just smiled at her friend. "But then again it's like an eternal vacation here. Early retirement. Can't complain about that, right?"

Adrienne took a few more bites of her food (it was really good), and after a few more minutes of silence she turned her attention to Logan. "So how are you liking having two more people in the house? Not as lonely, huh?"

Mitsuko and Logan were indeed starting to become very comfortable with each other. It had been just about half a year since they'd first met and it was like they'd been together forever. Only every once and a while did there seem to be a moment of estrangement between them, but it was fleeting.

Mitsuko was close to laughing about Frar and Fror now. Yes, she had been blamed for what they'd done, but she'd made sure they paid for it. She caught them herself and got her name cleared. That was all that really mattered.

"I think there's a lot of people who feel like that," Mitsuko said softly, thinking about the number of people in Elysium who seemed to be lost. "Don't get me wrong, Elysium is... Great." She hesitated a bit on the description. She wasn't always certain she felt like that. "But it's just so different. And there does seem to be a bit of a premium put on people who have powers. If you're normal, there seems to be less to do." She bit her lip. "Not to mention... What are you supposed to do with kids? There's really not a school or anything."

"Sascha's going to be tutoring me," Logan said softly. "He's going to help me finish high school."

"Really?" Mitsuko beamed. "That's great! That Sascha... I'm going to have to..." She stopped herself quickly. "...Bake him some cookies." Considering they had been talking about Irei as her boyfriend, she couldn't well let Logan know she would give 'thanks' to Sascha.

Logan didn't seem to noticed Mitsuko's slip, just answering Adrienne's question. He nodded. "Yeah. It's nice. It's... Different." Now that Charlie and Chris were living with him, his crush on Chris was slowly diminishing. She was like a sister now, wasn't she? At least, that's what he was telling himself.

"I'm not so sure if it has anything to do with powers," Adrienne said after another bite of food. She pointed her fork lazily at her friend while she was talking, waving it about with every other word. "That wouldn't make a difference if they had something to do. I mean, my brother was in the Air Force before all of this, and my dad worked at a law firm. There isn't anything that's an equivalent to that here, you know? Not full time, at least." Adrienne returned her fork to her plate. "Maybe Jason needs to join the guard. He'd be good at it. And dad can just relax."

Talking about her family took the pressure away from herself, but not by much. She thought the same things for her own life, wondering what in the world she could possibly do besides working at the stables, and taking each day as it came.

"That's great, Logan," Adrienne said when the boy mentioned the tutoring. "That'll be really great for you." Though what he could possibly do afterward was still up in the air. "And if Sascha is coming around to tutor you he could probably tutor the twins, too," Adrienne suggested. "You could always suggest it to him the next time you guys talk." Adrienne was still a little unsure when it came to how she felt about Sascha. The man was nice enough to tutor Mitsuko's younger brother, and yet this was the exact same man who decide to be a voyeur when she and Zach were having sex in the library. Granted, they probably shouldn't have even had sex in the first place, but it was just creepy that he wouldn't leave them alone long enough to gather themselves. It convinced Adrienne that the man was on the weird side of perverted.

Mitsuko gave Adrienne a sly smile. "I could commit some more crimes, to give your dad more to do." She let out a small laugh. "And maybe Jason needs to find himself a girl. That's always good to take up some time." She wasn't sure how thrilled she was at the idea of him joining the guard. As a thief, it went against her basic instincts. Not to mention all of the guards she'd met were assholes.

Mitsuko knew how Adrienne felt. She wasn't really getting much out of being a waitress. It was something to fill her time, but that was about it. She wanted to find something a little more fulfilling.

Logan wasn't really thinking about what he would do after he finished school. It was finishing that was important. He'd promised his dad. He supposed when it was over, he would go back to his art. That had always been his passion. Maybe he'd write too. Certainly, there wasn't a lot of that stuff being produced now.

"I'm sure Sascha and I can make some sort of arrangement," Mitsuko said calmly. "He likes teaching." If she'd known Adrienne's thoughts, she would have agreed with them. Sascha was on the weird side of perverted. Of course, she found it charming rather than creepy.

Activities in Elysium were meant to pass the time, not become life long careers. Adrienne certainly had no intention of working at the stables for the rest of her life. She didn't even know if she wanted to work there for the rest of the month! She had considered taking up another job in Elysium, something more exciting than tending to horses and pegasi. Maybe things in the haven would change over time, and things would being to modernize, but Adrienne didn't know if she would live long enough to see things return to normal.

There was nothing charming about a lecherous peeping tom, but Adrienne kept those thoughts about Sascha to herself. Her friends were fond of the man, and Adrienne had enough sense to not say anything against his character. "You know, if you wanted to learn about history or anything I'd be more than happy to tutor you. I was a history major in college, and I was pretty good at it. Even worked at the Historical Society in Chicago." She smiled at Logan, and bounced her eyebrows playfully. "It's up to you, of course, but the offer is there if you want to take it."

Mitsuko could understand how Adrienne felt about Elysium. Most definitely. It was not the sort of life she was used to at all. While she liked the people she'd gotten to know in the haven, there were times she grew very weary of the back-to-basics lifestyle that served as the community's foundation. She was a modern girl, with modern ideas. Not to mention staying in one place for a long time rather went against her nature.

Adrienne's silence was a wise one. Mitsuko would have become quite cross if Adrienne were to say anything bad against him. She'd become very fond of the telepath. It was not just the sex. Sure, that was good. But Sascha was a good friend. Thankfully, the conversation about him was over and the peace between the two friends would be kept.

"That would be nice," Logan said softly to Adrienne. He pushed his food around on his plate, nervous about talking so much. "Sascha is an English Professor, so I don't know how much history he knows."

Mitsuko reached over and playfully ruffled her brother's hair. "You're going to be such a smartie. Gonna make me look bad."
