Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:adrienne conté, katy wilson

Sunday: February 10, 2008
Who: Katy and Adrienne
When: Afternoon
Where: First at Adrienne's house, and then across the street to Danté's home
What: A little breaking and entering

Katy had been more than a little bit disturbed since she had met with Danté in his cell. She had learned things that she probably would have been better off not knowing, but she had opened Pandora's box the moment she had involved herself with the public kidnapping of the young man, whom she had come to learn was named Zach.

He had pictures of her.

The thought had become obsessive and she hadn't been able to sleep last night. She had made sure every possible way someone could see into her house had been covered. She felt violated and powerless because of the loss of control in her world. She had become used to feeling strong, thinking nothing could actually hurt her because she was a lycanthrope. She needed to know whether Dante had lied to her again just to put her through this.

She had spent the morning figuring out where the madman had lived while he was still free, and found out that he lived in town. She was surprised to learn however that he lived so close to Adrienne Conté. She remembered Adrienne at the scene when Dante had broken her ribs and nearly suffocated her. She had wondered what could have prompted the two of them, Dante and her, to know each other.

She knocked on Adrienne's door. There was something she needed to do, but she felt like she should ask Adrienne if she would help her.

As much as Dante had affected Katy the psychotic werewolf had done ten times worse to Adrienne. The girl had to learn to live with the fact that the man not only tried to kill her boyfriend, but had been the same werewolf that had bitten her over a year ago. He had stalked her since her European trip, followed her home, and had bitten her when he had the chance. He was the one that had made her a werewolf, and that was a fact she'd have to live with for the rest of her life.

Her father and Jason had left for a trip to the Dwarven kingdom (they loved the beer), and Adrienne was all alone in their cottage. She had settled down onto the couch in the living room with a book, but her mind was barely on the words that were on the page. She was thinking of Zach, and how much she wanted to be with him, and just talk to him about what she had learned. She had passed by his cottage numerous times with every intention of stopping by, but when she recalled their fight in the medical pavilion she couldn't bring herself to bother him. He needed his own space, and time to cope with what Dante had done to him, and she was going to respect that.

Adrienne wasn't expecting any company, but that wasn't to say she didn't want any. The werewolf was missing her friends, and she wondered why none, with the exception of Adair, had stopped by to see how she was doing. The news about what Dante had done to Zach was known by almost everyone in the haven, and it would be hard for them not to know what had happened. She wondered if they even cared, and had convinced herself that they hadn't. If they had they would have stopped by, or sent a note, but they didn't. It made Adrienne upset, but there wasn't much she could do.

She stood to her feet, and walked toward the door. "Coming!" Her voice rang out toward the visitor a few moments before she actually opened the door. "Katy! Hi," she said with a bright smile. Adrienne remembered the time when she ran into the other werewolf, and she remembered that she enjoyed the girl's company immensely. Adrienne also recalled seeing her at the scene of Dante's attack, and she inwardly chided herself for not checking up on the girl especially when she did try to help Zach.

"How are you feeling?" She leaned against the door a moment before she opened it fully. Adrienne wanted to say more, but she didn't want to do it in the doorway of her cottage. "We can talk inside. Please, come in," she offered.

Katy was still chewing on her thumb nail when Adrienne opened the door. There was a notable difference in Katy's demeanor since the last time she and Adrienne had met. She didn't smile the same. It was strained. She looked up at the other girl with her arms were crossed under her chest in an almost protective manner. She had never had to deal with a stalker before. With her semblance of control shattered, Katy's whole world seemed to be different. It would be much harder to trust people now. However, she refused to just quietly except it and let Dante win.

"Hi Adrienne. I've been better, but then again I've also been worse." Katy still wore bandages under her shirt. It took a normal human at least two or three months to heal from broken ribs. She would heal faster, but it was better to keep herself wrapped up just in case. Every time she looked at her wrapped up chest in the mirror, she thought of that perverted doctor at the medical pavilion. At least he had been amusing.

She walked inside the cottage that the girl apparently shared with her father and brother. Katy could smell them everywhere, but they didn't seem to be in the house. Adrienne must have a happy family. Katy felt a loneliness like a distinctive pressure against her chest. "Your father out?"

She didn't walk to far into the home when she turned around and looked at the other werewolf girl. It was probably best to just get to the quick of it. "Adrienne, I came over today because I visited Dante yesterday afternoon." She looked up at some of the pictures on the walls. "I, uh, learned some disturbing things from him. And I know it sounds crazy, but I need to get into his house to get something. I wanted to know if you would help me." She looked back at the shorter girl and wondered what she would say.

The change in demeanor was noticeable, but Adrienne didn't mention it out loud. The younger werewolf assumed that it had to do with the girl's recent run in with Dante, and she really couldn't blame her for the reaction. It was understandable, and little did Katy know that Adrienne had first hand experience when it came to Dante's insanity.

"You know, I never got the chance to thank you for what you did in the market place," she said as the girl entered the house. Both of their dynamic personalities were subdued considering the recent events, but each of them did their best to continue on with their lives.

"Yeah, he's out with my brother," she replied. "Visiting the dwarves, I think." Adrienne laughed a little as she imagined her father and brother drinking themselves stupid with the dwarves' especially strong ale. The smile, and laughter was immediately halted when Katy mentioned Dante's name. Her brow furrowed, and her head tilted to the side in confusion. Adrienne just couldn't understand why Katy would want to visit Dante; but then again she did the exact same thing a few days earlier, and it revealed some truths to the girl that she was not yet ready to hear.

The fact that Katy visited Dante was a bit more shocking than Katy's idea to break into the madman's house. Adrienne opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out right away. "Why... did you visit him," she asked regardless. "I mean, yeah, I'll help you, of course! But what did he tell you exactly? What could he possibly have that you'd want?"

Katy looked at her as Adrienne thanked her. She tilted her head slightly. "Well, I really didn't know that he was your boyfriend at the time, but don't mention it. I did it because there wasn't anyone else there who even stood a chance with that psychopath." Not like she had either. Not when he had completely transformed. Katy wanted that power.

She raised an eyebrow at Adrienne. Katy knew that Dante seemed to have a strange obsession with her. That had been made certain by the way he reacted when she had mentioned her name down there. "Adrienne, I know he had done something horrible to you, but do you think someone like that only hurts one person at a time? When I first met him he was taking pictures of me. He told me yesterday...He told me that he had more. Not just of me, but other people as well. Probably you too. He practically lived next door to you."

Katy was incredibly angry. She had felt weak around him. No one had made her feel that way in years. "I want the pictures. I want to prove how demented that bastard actually is so they won't even think about letting him out of his cage."

"Alright, let's go. He's probably so proud and sure of himself that he wouldn't even bother locking his front door."

It was true that there was no way Katy could have known that Zach was her boyfriend, but the fact that she had jumped in there at all was brave of her. Adrienne thought that she should have done something like that, but she hadn't thought of it at the time. She only wanted to save Zach, and she would have traded herself to do so. It was the only thing in her mind that day.

Adrienne swallowed the catch in her throat. Something horrible didn't even cut it when it came down to what Dante did to her. He stalked her, and attacked her, and now he was here to claim what was his; at least that was the impression that he gave Adrienne.

She didn't know about the pictures, but considering the fact that he was a stalker Adrienne couldn't say she was surprised. She did, however, look shocked when Katy mentioned that he lived next door. "What," she said in disbelief. It had never occurred to Adrienne to pay attention to who lived near her, or across the way from her, but now it seemed like a good idea. She didn't know how long he had been there, but now she was almost afraid to see what sorts of pictures he had taken of her.

"I don't think they'd ever let him out," Adrienne said. "With or without the pictures, but more evidence against him couldn't be a bad thing." Adrienne grabbed a light sweater, and slipped into it quickly. "You know, he's more demented than you may think," Adrienne said as they left her cottage. She allowed Katy to lead the way since she really had no idea where Dante lived.

Katy led the way to the house. It wasn't far at all, but Katy's assumption that the door would be unlocked had been wrong. She moved to a side window and tested it. She was able to get it up with a little bit of working. She looked around the neighborhood to make sure no one was watching them. For good measure she sniffed what she could of the upwind and shut her eyes as she listened for anyone nearby. It seemed clear.

She scrambled through the window and helped Adrienne get inside as well. They were inside the living room, and everything seemed normal enough. There was about as much furniture as most bachelor pads tended to have, and there wasn't much by way of decoration. Everything seemed to be perfectly normal.

Katy bit her lower lip. She needed the evidence and she had to know whether or not he had been lying to her again. Had he been just trying to bait her before when she had talked with him? "Now, if I were a psychopathic stalker, where would I stash my photos?" She looked over at Adrienne and shrugged.

She started to check other rooms. She doubted he would keep things in the kitchen. She stopped in front of the closet and then looked up at the stairs. There were many more rooms up there and plenty of places to hide his disturbing hobby.

She clamored up the stairs and looked in the direction of either room that could have been his bedroom. If what he had said was true, and he truly was obsessed with Adrienne, he would probably spend most of his time in a room that faced her house.

"Adrienne, in your house, which room is yours?" She walked forward and opened one of the rooms, stopping just short of walking in as her eyes widened at what she saw.

Maybe it was second nature for werewolves to be wary of their surroundings. Adrienne sniffed the air, and listened with her keen ears for anyone that could be around. The coast was definitely clear, and Adrienne followed Katy through the window that the girl had opened.

Adrienne noticed how normal everything seemed despite the very abnormal tenant. She guessed that it was all about portraying a normal facade so that he wouldn't draw attention to himself. That didn't work in the end, not with the stunt he pulled with Zach, and now everyone was all too aware of Dante's psychotic nature.

While Katy searched in some places Adrienne looked in others to cover more ground in less time. She didn't want to get caught in the murderer's house by the authorities if they happened to stop by. She doubted anyone would investigate the area, but the thought was still in her mind. Despite that Adrienne kept looking around for anything that was out of the ordinary, and so far she had come up empty handed.

The upstairs was next, and just as she went to the hall closet Katy went to the rooms. Before Adrienne even had a chance to go through Dante's sparse belongings Katy's voice called out to her. "Huh," she said absently as she glanced over at her friend. "My room?" Adrienne looked around at her surroundings knowing full well that the layout of the cottages were very similar. The girl had also noticed that Dante's house was situation across the way from hers, and now that she was looking around a startling thought came to her mind.

She stepped away from the closet, and looked at the room Katy had just walked in. Adrienne took another step forward as her heart beat wildly inside her chest. "My room would actually be the one facing that room that you're in," she said quietly. Adrienne was almost afraid to go into the room with Katy. She had no idea what they would find in there, but something told her that it wouldn't be good.

She turned and looked at Adrienne, and then back into the room. She wasn't sure if the other girl would be able to handle what she had found. She held her hand out behind her as a way to signal her not to come further. She reached up with her other hand and covered her mouth with her fingers.

"Adrienne," She paused and looked back at her. "Don't come in here."

She walked in. She had understood that Dante was a crazy stalker, but she had never dreamed he was this demented. Photographs were everywhere. They were up all over the walls, and scattered over every flat surface. Many of the pictures seemed innocent enough, if not placed in the same room as others where he had cut out Adrienne's eyes. Or in some of the pictures that were supposed to have someone else, Katy guessed Adrienne's boyfriend Zach. Dante had crudely cut Zach out of the pictures and there were photos of the couple together in sexual acts and quite a few of just her nude.

The pictures were mostly of Adrienne, but some were of herself, and other women she could not name. Katy recognized some of the pictures from that day in the snow when she had first met Dante who had introduced himself as Douglas. She had thought there would only be few, but he must have been following her for most of that day.

She bit her quivering lip, and ripped the Polaroids he had taken of her while coming out of the shower off the wall. How many times had that bastard been watching her? And poor Adrienne if she saw all of this...Katy actually didn't know what her reaction would be, but she guessed that it would weigh pretty heavily on her. She shut her eyes and tried to squelch the rising anger. She had never felt so violated, so insecure, or so vulnerable.

"This place...someone should burn it down." She turned her head and looked at the desk in the room and noticed a familiar object. He had her hair brush? She had noticed that it was missing, but she thought she had just misplaced it. Did this mean he had been inside of her house? There were other things lying on the table's surface that certainly didn't belong in a normal bachelor's pad. She realized she was taking short shallow breaths.

"That man is sick..." She almost whispered and swallowed as she felt the bile rise from her stomach. She could smell him everywhere in the room. The whole house reeked of him. She felt nauseous and couldn't stand it.

Katy's words didn't dissuade Adrienne from moving toward the room. She was determined to face whatever was there even if it was enough to make Katy cover her mouth in disgust. Adrienne was sure she could handle anything she came across, but that didn't mean she wasn't surprised when she actually faced it.

Photos everywhere; on the wall, and the dressers, and most of them were of her. Adrienne's eyes widened, and she moved forward to examine them closer. Pictures of her in her room, dressed and undressed. With and without Zach. Some where her eyes were cut out, or her mouth. Some where Zach was defaced, and others where her boyfriend was replaced by pictures of Dante himself. Adrienne had never considered herself emotional, or weepy, but in that instant she felt tears welling up in her eyes. She swallowed them back, and moved to investigate another area.

She turned to look at Katy just as the girl ripped down some Polaroids. Adrienne guessed they were of her, and she moved to stand by her side. She placed a comforting hand on the girl's arm, but didn't say anything in the dead silence. There was no need for words to express what they were both feeling. Adrienne felt she could empathize with her friend, and there was no doubt in Adrienne's mind that Katy empathized with her as well.

The younger werewolf moved away from Katy for a moment as she moved to the window. It was then she realized just how Dante had been getting all of his photos. His bedroom window faced Adrienne's room, and he could see everything that took place in the supposed safety of her room. She swallowed back the catch in her throat, and turned away just as Katy spoke. "I don't care what they do with this place," Adrienne said in reply as she pulled open the top drawer of the dresser. For all intents and purposes it looked normal enough except that underneath all of the clothing were even more disturbing items.

Adrienne pulled out a few things that she recognized as her own. She never imagined that her lost possessions had actually been taken from her cottage when she wasn't at home. She let out a shaky breath as she let the things fall back into the drawer. Though they were hers she couldn't stand the thought of touching them. Dante had contaminated it with his perversion, and she didn't want to be reminded of him.

"That's the understatement of the year," she said quietly. "I want to tell the authorities about this but..." her fingers trailed lightly over the photos on the walls. "It's all so personal. I don't know if I want anyone else seeing them, y'know?" The tears were threatening to spill again, but Adrienne was fighting against them with all her might.

Katy couldn't stop Adrienne from entering the room if she felt that she had to, but she had given the girl a fair warning. The product of a demented mind was something that while rare for most to see, was none the less awe inspiring as much as it was terrifying. How had Dante gotten close enough to people, especially two werewolves like themselves, to take pictures like the ones he had without being noticed? Katy was appalled by her own inability to have picked up on the multiple times he must have been spying on her. No one had been able to sneak up on her in years, until she met the lying, crazed werewolf.

She continued to rip the pictures of herself in various stages of undress off the wall. Her cheeks were red not from embarrassment, but anger. Why? He even had pictures of her completely dressed, cooking in her cottage, taking pictures herself while outside, or relaxing at night under a thick quilt on her porch reading. He had told her he used the photographs for masturbating while he hadn't been locked up, but what of the photo's taken of her in just an everyday situation? What was the point of it all? She couldn't possibly begin to wrap her head around it, and if she were to be honest with herself, it would be the thing that continued to bother her more than anything else about the situation.

Perhaps it was her train of thought that made Katy snap at the younger werewolf, but she couldn't help it. "Why would you even say that? Understatement of the year? When we obviously agree.."

Katy took a breath, but nothing she could do would calm her completely down. It was all to new, to raw, for her to even think about it healing over. "Sorry, I didn't mean that. I'm just...upset." She felt that statement would probably rival the other for understatement of the year. The beast inside of her reacted to her out of controlled emotions. It was a fever in her blood. She needed to do something about this and she longed to do something violent.

"Then we will keep it to ourselves. No one has to know about what happened here." She turned to Adrienne again. "I doubt there is anything more to see. I'm sorry I brought you all the way out here to have to see this, after all he has done, and to so many others as well."

Katy reached into the pocket of her jacket and fingered the object she had in there. She had said earlier that she wanted to bring the evidence to the council and make certain that he couldn't ever be released from prison. But this, she hadn't expected all of this. Adrienne was right, it was to personal, to macabre to allow anyone else to see. She had already made the mistake of asking Adrienne to accompany her into the psycho's den to find the horrific shrine he had built around himself based on her and the other victims of his stalking tendencies. Did she really want to destroy the other women's sense of security and control of their lives like how she herself felt?

She shook her head. "You should go home. I'll take care of this. No one will know what that bastard was doing here."

Adrienne didn't take Katy's outburst personally. She hadn't meant anything derogatory by her words, but she couldn't blame Katy's reaction. They were both upset by the contents of Dante's bedroom, and they were both reacting on pure emotion. "I know. It's fine." It might have seem curt in comparison, but Adrienne didn't think there was anything more she could say. She smiled to show there were no hard feelings, and she hoped Katy wasn't truly upset with her.

The pictures were like a train wreck. Adrienne couldn't help but stare at them over and over again. She didn't want to see them, but she couldn't help but to look. Her fingers moved over a picture of her and Zach slow dancing in her room, and another of them walking hand in hand. Private moments made less so by Dante's intrusion. They were defiled now considering the poked out eyes, mouths, and the way Zach was scratched out in each photograph. Adrienne threw down the photos, and turned to Katy.

"You don't need to apologize," she said. "I came because I wanted to." Adrienne couldn't look at the images any longer, and she wouldn't. She wasn't going to let Dante control her in the same way he did back when she was first changed. It was an indirect influence, but it had made her feel as if she had lost herself when she was made into a werewolf. It had taken time, but she had regained control in her life, and had moved away from him.

Adrienne moved to touch Katy's arm. It was meant to be a comforting gesture, but the girl didn't know if Katy felt comforted by it. "I'm not going home. We started this together, and we're going to finish this together. Whatever this is." She smiled softly. "You're my friend, and I'm not letting you stay here alone."

The expression on Katy's face as she looked at Adrienne was unreadable. Did the younger girl look to comfort her within the psycho's den? She shook her head. There was no comfort to be had in a place like this. The very air was thick with him. His presence, his sent was everywhere and Katy felt like she was choking on it, drowning in it.

"I won't allow him to ruin me."

Katy was alone. She had never felt more alone than she had in the last few days. Her father and her brother were separated from her by an ocean and she had lost count of the days since the last time she had heard from them. Truthfully she had no idea whether they were alive or not, aside from her need to believe that they were. She had to think that there was someone out there still that knows and loves her.

"If you stay Adrienne, you might either have to turn me in for a crime, or keep a pretty big secret." Katy pulled her hand out of her pocket and she opened her palm to reveal a small match book that looked like it had come from a hotel in Greece. She ripped a match from the cardboard base and struck it on the rough surface. She watched as the little match sparked and glowed. Then she flicked the match away from her in a breathless moment and watched it arch as if slow motion, and land on his bed.

The dry and soft bed clothes caught quickly and moved from the mattress as the fire found more fuel to grow. Katy tilted her head and watched as the pictures along the wall near the bed seemed to melt, warp, or blacken. A few fell into the center of the flames as the tape or whatever held them lost the ability to stick against the wall. The fire spread beyond the bed and licked up against the curtains and quickly claimed them as well. The spot where he had watched Adrienne through her window was devoured by the hungry fire.

She took a breath and smiled as the flames reflected in her eyes. This place, this spot would be purified with fire. No one would know what happened within the room except for Adrienne, Dante, and herself. It would almost be as if it had been erased from existence or like it had never happened. She hadn't come here to do this, but it had been in the back of her mind the whole time. Perhaps the crazy that infected Dante and permeated this room fed her craving for retribution and caused her to go a little crazy herself.

"We should probably leave now." She was practically laughing as everything Dante had done to all of these other women, Adrienne, and herself disappeared in the flames that now covered a good half of the room.

The last thing Adrienne expected was for Katy to set the room on fire. She could see wanting the photos to go up in flames, to destroy every last "souvenir" the sociopath had collected from the women he had stalked during his time in the haven. That she understood, but it took a second or two for her to process the flames that grew from the match that was thrown onto the bed. Her mouth opened in shock, but there was a bigger part of her that didn't feel guilty at all. Dante had violated herself, Katy, and various other women in the haven, and this act of revenge was a small comfort for herself and Katy.

Adrienne decided to see the flames as justice, and not revenge, and when Katy suggested that they leave Adrienne quickly agreed. "Let's go," she said as they ran out of the room. Adrienne took the lead, and moved down the hall and stairs to the main floor. She exited out of the window they had entered through, and once she was sure that Katy was safely out of the house she moved to a safe distance to watch the fire that continued to consume the house, and all of its evil.

The younger girl looked up at Katy, dark eyes flickering with the light of the fire. She didn't need to say anything for her friend to know that this was a secret she would take to the grave. This was theirs to share, and no one would be the wiser to what happened on this night. Adrienne smiled at Katy, and felt a sense of relief as the flames continued to cleanse the impurity of Dante's cottage.

Dante's house. Katy was so happy that it was burning. Later her actions would probably shock her, but now she only felt a whelming sense of joy, or elation at seeing the place where he had slept, had plotted, had spied on Adrienne through her bedroom window, and had done all manner of other things disappear into the orange flames. His scent was even disappearing with the hot wind. It was beautiful, and simply breathtaking.

She followed Adrienne out of the burning house, but everything seemed to be in slow motion as Katy moved. She looked back over her shoulder at the room that seemed to pulse with heat and light. She turned back toward the stairs as they ran down them. She could see Adrienne's hair flying up with the speed she was moving, but it still felt like everything was moving at severely reduced speed.

It didn't speed up again until they were out the window and Katy landed on her butt outside the house. Katy blinked a few times after they had managed to get sufficiently away from the burning house, and shook her head as if to clear it. She looked back at Adrienne and smiled back at her. It looked like she hadn't shocked the other girl too much. So it seemed like she wouldn't end up getting stuck inside a silver coated jail cell too quickly anyways.
