Friday: February 8, 2008
Who: Adrienne and Ivy
When: Evening, after sunset
Where: The Wine Bar
What: Adrienne's feeling a little down, and is attempting to drown her sorrows

Everything had been going too well in Adrienne's world, and life saw fit to kick her in the ass for it. It figured she couldn't be happy forever, and with as much as she had to deal with lately there was just no way she could smile in spite of it all. She tried; she really really did, but it continued to build upon itself until she felt trapped underneath it all. Like Atlas with the weight of the heavens upon his shoulders Adrienne was forced to carry the burden of her troubles.

It had been a near week since she had spoken to Zach let alone see him, and four days since she found out the truth about Danté. He was the one who had bitten her over a year ago, and thrust her into the praeternatural realm. She had come to terms with it, or at least she thought she had until she had spoken to the sociopathic werewolf. Now she was facing all of her self-doubt again, and she was doing it by herself. Sure she had her family, and she had tried to talk to her brother about it, but she ended up shutting down around him. It was like she was trying to protect him and her father again like she had done in the beginning. She didn't lie to them she just neglected to tell them the whole truth.

"Can I get another," Adrienne asked the bartender as she pushed her glass away from her. The bartender filled the glass with ice, and poured whiskey straight over it before handing it back to her. She thanked him, a half smile forming on her lips before she drank half of it in one gulp. Adrienne had no idea why she was drinking since it barely had an effect on her; it always took a shitload of alcohol to get her drunk these days. The girl wasn't a smoker either, but she was smoking now taking a long drag off the cigarette she had bummed from a guy at the Wine Bar. It wasn't like it was going to kill her; there were far worse ways to die in her eyes. Besides, it wasn't like she was going to get addicted to them.

She just didn't want to be herself for one night, and she wanted to forget every bad thing that had happened in the past week.

"More," she said to the bartender. "In fact, leave the bottle here. It's going to be a long night."

"You don't strike me as a smoker" Ivy stated bluntly while she tended to a drink that tasted bland credited to being a vampire. Even so, it was nice to pretend she still was normal and could taste the tequila placed in front of her. She doubted a glassful of blood was a conversation starter. The vampire had no problem playing pretend in order to make friends. You do what you got to do.

Maybe this girl wanted to be left alone and Ivy would back off if that was her wish, otherwise, she would go on. "If you are a smoker, it looks like your current sticks running low. You want another one?" Ivy dug into the confines of her purse and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. Her precious babies. But she was willing to share with someone who appeared to look so down.

She set the pack down along with her nicely decorated lighter. "Have at it sweetheart. When someone's down there's nothing like a mix of smoke and booze to drown the bullshit away." Ivy wasn't trying to be nosey, but she gave a sigh and ever so casually re did the makeup on her dulling lips.

"Strangers can be the best people to vent to." She fully turned her attention to Adrienne, lips now as vibrant as her eyes." What's the matter?"

"I'm not usually." The werewolf took a long drag off the cigarette, and blew it in the opposite direction from the girl who had decided to strike up conversation with her. "But I am tonight," she added with a wry grin. Unlike a vampire Adrienne could taste the alcohol as it passed over her tongue. She could feel it traveling down her throat, cool and almost refreshing to her higher than normal body temperature. It just couldn't get her drunk as easily. That was probably the same for the vampire.

Adrienne eyed the pack of cigarettes, and then looked at the girl. She hadn't seen her around before, but that wasn't surprising in a place like this. Elysium wasn't a small haven by any stretch of the word, and she had probably only met a handful of the thousands of people that inhabited the valley. "Thanks," she said as she pulled a single cigarette from the pack. Her current smoke was coming down to the very end, and like her new companion said there wasn't anything like smoke and liquor to make it all temporarily go away.

The werewolf had initially intended on spending the evening alone, but she couldn't deny the truth in the other girl's words. Strangers often did the best listening because there was no emotional attachment to the situation, and it was that reason that Adrienne began to talk.

"You sure you wanna know?" Well, almost talk. She wasn't going to bother the girl with the sordid particulars of her life if the offer wasn't genuine. Most people didn't expect a truthful answer when they asked questions like "What's the matter?" or "How are you?". They were just being polite, and they didn't really want to go into details.

"Sweetie, would I have asked if I didn't want to know?" She lit her own cigarette and the minute the first cloud of smoke came out she let out a relieved breath. Going several minutes without one felt like an eternity. She could be on a stranded island and she would chose cigarettes over blood. At least she would die a happy vampire. "I meet a lot a people around here, most I don't give a damn about because they look too self absorbed or they pretty much tell me to piss off when I'm trying to make conversation. However you strike me as someone who just needs to blow off some steam."

She smiled, her cigarette wiggling a bit as she did so. Ivy dragged an ashtray in between them and set her thin cigarette in the dirtied tray. "I'm Ivy by the way. I figured if you were going to talk about your troubles, you might want to know my name." The vampire stated with a bit of a chuckle.

She eyed the bottle the stranger had and she snapped her fingers at the bartender. "'Ey! What type of stingy shit is this? Get this girl a bigger bottle!"

Adrienne laughed, and cocked her head to the side to concede the argument. "True," she said as she finished off her first cigarette. She lit the other one soon after, and for a moment there was a cloud of smoke lingering above the girls. "Some people ask without meaning it," she said. "Is it sad that I've encountered more of that than people who are genuine?" A ghost of a smile crossed her lips followed by a chuckle. She watched as Ivy pushed the ashtray between them, and nodded at her introduction.

"Adrienne," she said with another smile. "And yeah, names are nice in a conversation." The werewolf laughed, and then raised her eyebrows in a rueful manner. She transferred the cigarette to her other hand, and held out a hand to the girl. "Nice to meet you," she said with a firm shake. Adrienne always made sure to shake everyone's hand confidently even if she wasn't feeling it all the time.

Despite the down mood Adrienne was in she couldn't help but smile when Ivy ordered a bigger bottle of whiskey. She also couldn't help but notice the fangs that were present in the girl's mouth. Taking a deeper breath she caught the very slight scent of blood, and it confirmed that the girl was either a vampire or a dhamphir. "Bring another glass, too," she added after a minute. "Unless you want something else to drink," Adrienne asked Ivy. "Hey if we're going to talk then you might as well be comfortable, and order whatever you like. Seriously, I'm cool with anything."

She didn't want to come out, and say she knew what the girl was. Some people weren't always comfortable with what they were, and Adrienne wasn't the type of girl to push (not always anyway).

Ivy raised a lip when Adrienne told her about encountering people who just didn't give a damn about what she wanted to vent about. "Are you serious?" She blew out a long line of smoke, then gave a huff. "Assholes." She pointed her cigarette in the direction of this Adrienne. Shame she wasn't back home. She would have made a killer dancer. With a figure like that, she might have had to fight this bitch for some attention. Not that she actually was a bitch or anything. "You know what else gets me? People who are here to let you be a living microphone, but when you want to let things go a little? They all of a sudden have something to do or decide that listening is a chore. What bunch of pricks."

The vampire shook Adrienne's hand in return. "It's nice to meet you too. Nice to see that smile as well. You have a pretty one, it's a shame that you're feeling down but I guess we all get that way, yes?"

Ivy gave a slight arch of the brow when Adrienne noticed her fangs. At first she was alarmed, like secretly her new encounter was playing comfortable just so the conversation didn't take an awkward turn. People saw sharp teeth and immediately though that she was chatting a person up for a nighttime snack all of a sudden. But after a few moments of sudden anxiety, a smile came to her lips and she leaned over the table to yell at the bartender. "Hey! Mr-whatever! Get me the good stuff out back! None of that disgusting year old tasting shit!" She slid back to her seat and glanced Adrienne over.

"I guess the cats out of the bag." She tilted her head to try and find a way to word what she was thinking. "Are you anything...well..hmm..not so humanly?"

"Fuckin' assholes," Adrienne said completely agreeing with Ivy's statement. The werewolf had to admit that having company was better than sitting alone and starting at a bottle of whiskey all night. Misery loved company, or something like that, except that Adrienne wasn't looking to bring Ivy down with her. "I hate people like that. Egocentric bastards who only care about themselves is what they are." Adrienne took another drink of her whiskey, and refilled her glass. No, she wasn't getting drunk anytime soon. In fact it would probably take the rest of the bottle if not more to get her feeling a little tipsy.

The compliment about the smile forced a small chuckle out of her mouth. "Thanks," she said. "It's just been one of those weeks. Every fuckin' thing that can go wrong has gone wrong." The girl took another long drag off her cigarette, and let the smoke leave her mouth slowly. Why did drinking and smoking go together so well? It was a mystery, but it was doing a hell of a job at making her feel better. Or maybe it was because she had someone to vent to? Probably a combination of both.

The last thing Adrienne wanted was to make Ivy feel uncomfortable, and without hesitation she answered the girl's question about what she was. "I'm a werewolf," she said nonchalantly. The truth was that she hated being one more than ever if only because she knew who had changed her, but she wasn't going to reveal that just yet to her companion. "And I'm guessing you're either a vampire, or a dhamphir," she added after a second or two. "One of my best friends is a vamp so it doesn't bother me. Seriously, I practically eat raw meat when it gets close to the full moon so you drinking blood in front of me is totally cool."

It was about time Ivy met a chick who was chill. She needed more friends, she knew so. Though the timing for this poor girl was horrible, at least they still found a way to connect. Not only by having same opinions on people, but by the fact that they weren't the standard humans that may or may not have been roaming around the place. She knew there were freaks of all sorts among the large wonderland, but it wasn't like all of them were obvious. "A werewolf huh?" She finally spoke. "Besides the bitch of the moon and.." Well, the girl must have gone through a lot when the attack happened. "The day of, it must have a lot of benefits. Stronger, faster, able to defend yourself. With your abilities you could show others what is what if they tried to start shit with you." She said, promising that she wasn't trying to bring out harmful emotions about how she became a werewolf. She seriously thought the girl was cool.

"Good job, honey. I sure am a vampire. Not by choice, but I get used to it. But boy, do I fucking miss it when a candy bar tasted like a candy bar, you know?" She put out her spent cigarette and looked over to the younger girl. "I feel you on the raw meet. Sometimes when my ass is too lazy to go to the medical pavilion, I just go to the butchers and ask for a shit load of raw meat." Ivy didn't feel weird then when the blood in a wine glass came in. She took a small sip before she tapped her nails against the table.

"So tell me about this week you've had, darling." Of course, there was no pressure. She didn't want to seem like a shrink.

Adrienne needed more friends as well. She had spent so much time with Zach then when she wasn't with him she realized just how few people she actually knew well enough to call friend. It made her sad a little if only because she remembered how things were when she was in college, and how many friends she had back then. The werewolf was glad to have met Ivy on that night even though she was in a depressed mood. She hoped this wouldn't be a one time meeting, either; she'd like to make more lasting friendships in the haven.

"Sure there are benefits," she said with a small smile. "I have to admit that there is something pretty awesome about being able to kick ass." Adrienne let out a small laugh, and then raked her fingers through her hair. "But that only helps if you have fighting skills in the first place. Me? I know how to sword fight, and I can through a punch, but I don't have a lick of training in hand-to-hand combat. I should, though. It wouldn't hurt." Adrienne finished the rest of her drink, and poured more into her glass. She still wasn't feeling the effects of the alcohol, but she wasn't going to stop until she did.

"Same here. I wasn't turned by choice," she added. Of course saying so only made her think about Dante, and that thought sent unpleasant shivers down her spine. She hated that bastard, and considering her current mood all she wanted to do was kill him. Still, Adrienne managed a smile at Ivy's comment about the candy bar, and the raw meat. "Anywhere else a butcher would look at us funny. But here? It's completely normal. It's kind of nice even though we're all here under shitty circumstances."

Adrienne took another drink of her whiskey, a long one in fact just to prepare herself for the story she was about to tell. She felt comfortable enough with Ivy to let her in on the gory details. "Well," she began slowly. "In a nutshell? My boyfriend was taken hostage by a psychopathic werewolf on Sunday. I got into a ridiculous fight with my boyfriend on Monday over his kidnapping, and then on Tuesday I found out that the werewolf who took my boyfriend? Yeah, he was the bastard that changed me over a fuckin' year ago." This time Adrienne took a long drag off her cigarette, and blew out the smoke after several seconds. "On top of that I haven't talked to my boyfriend since our fight. It's like fate was all, 'Hey! Having fun yet? No, here's more shit for you!' and then it like dumped this all on me at once."

Adrienne flicked the ash off the tip of her cigarette, and let the slim stick hang loosely in between her fingers. "Did I scare you off yet," Adrienne asked with a wry grin. "My life sucks right now," she added afterward. There was a part of her that felt like crying, but she wasn't going to do that in a public place, and not in front of her new friend.

Ivy gave a sheepish laugh while she ran a hand through her hair. She would make sure to shower when she got home. The funny thing about the vampire was though she never planned on getting rid of her habit of smoking, she hated it when her raven locks reeked of smoke. So she used potions to make her hair smell almost like peaches. She loved peaches and strawberries. Of course, this was just a brief thought before she turned her attention back to Adrienne. "Wow. I am impressed...all..I uh. Can do is dance." She didn't go into detail. Sometimes people judged her on the type of dance she indulged in. "But hey. Not everyone can be badass, right?"

Ah, boyfriend troubles. That was the starter, but her eyes grew wide with interest as the lycanthrope went into detail as to what exactly what went on. "Holy shit. You mean to tell me that the fuck face who made you a lycanthrope is here? Fuck girl, I'd be downing that whiskey like it was my job too." Of course, after that commentary, she let Adrienne continue. This was like a grade A movie. Of course, not a pleasant one. Poor thing almost seemed to be in a love triangle. "Has he wanted to talk to you?" Ivy inquired about her boyfriend. "You know how guys can be. They can try and make their dicks bigger by pulling the whole "oh, I must protect you!" routine.

Ivy shook her head at Adrienne's question. "Hun, though I can't top your crazy ass situation, believe me. I have been in some crazy situations and considering the life I had before, it takes a lot to disturb me." She gave a worried sigh afterwards. "I hate sounding blunt, but your life sure does seem to be in the shithole. But you know what i would do? I'd have me a wonderful amount of booze, eat lots of chocolate, cry a little or a lot and then get my shit together by doing what I think is best in this inglorious shit storm." The vampire didn't know if her advice was any good, but she tried. Adrienne and her could be totally different on that scale, but Ivy felt like the lycanthrope and her had some common methods.

Adrienne blushed a bit at Ivy's comment, and shook her head. "No no no, not impressive since I'm not very good," she said with a laugh. "I only took a beginner's class, and that was a year ago. I can swing the sword, and that's about it. But you're a professional dancer, huh?" She took a drag off her cigarette, and blew it aside. "Maybe you can teach me some moves because all I can do is slow dance at best."

Boyfriend troubles were only a very small part of the problems in Adrienne's life. Ivy's reaction was perfect, and it was enough to prompt the girl to pour herself more whiskey and down it. It was like a disaster movie, only so far there had yet to be a happy ending. Adrienne wanted one for sure, but that had yet to be seen.

"Yeah, he's here. He's the guy in the jail now, but he sure did a lot of damage before he got there. As for my guy... well, I think he just needs some time alone. I don't think being in a kidnapping is the sort of thing anyone gets over quickly. He needs time to do whatever it is he needs to do." Adrienne shrugged, and cast a somewhat sad smile at Ivy. Though the situation with Dante was the most pressing issue, it was the one with Zach that made Adrienne the saddest. She respected that he needed space, but that didn't take away from the fact that she needed (and wanted) to see him.

Ivy's bluntness didn't bother Adrienne at all. It was refreshing, and quite frankly the werewolf didn't need anyone trying to sugar coat her situation. She knew it was bad, and anyone who heard about it would know the same. Adrienne just needed someone to vent to, and to get a little bit of advice on how to proceed. Getting drunk, eating chocolate, and crying sounded like the perfect idea, and she was already a third of the way there.

"Thanks," she said finally. "That's exactly what I needed to hear." Adrienne raised her glass to the girl for a toast, and smiled. It was a nice ending to a terrible day, and it was just what Adrienne needed.
