Who: Zach & Nico
When: Late Evening
Where: Their cottage.
What: Zach has to talk to Nico about the girlfriend situation. Post will contain chilling, alcohol, and perhaps a little bit of Bad English.

Zach wasn’t a girl, so luckily he wasn’t spending his time moping the way a girl usually did. No ice cream was lying around the kitchen, sad songs weren’t playing from the stereo, and he definitely hadn’t spent any of his time crying. Crying was one of those things Zach strongly avoided and for good reason. It was considered good for girls to cry because they were expressing themselves, but for a guy it seemed the rules were different. Crying made you look like an ass — a pansy — or worse, a mentally unstable person with serious issues. Most people couldn’t handle seeing a man cry, and there was a reason for that. It was very unsettling.

No, Zach was dealing with the situation in a much more manly fashion. He was eating nachos, listening to blaring rap music on the stereo system from their vast collection of CDs, and waiting on Nico to return with the booze. Yes, the booze. Uncle Jack and Cousin José at your service. They were going to have a night of supposed fun, just chilling together as best friends, and get some of their frustrations off their chests. Zach was going to approach this predicament the appropriate way with his friend. First, they were going to bullshit and eventually it would lead up to talking about the more serious things as the night progressed.

Right now, Zach was sprawled out on the floor and staring straight up at the ceiling as he bobbed his head from side to side, which consisted of rolling his head along the carpet. If his hair wound up with static in it, then it wound up with static in it. The two of them would have one more thing to laugh about if it did.

When the front door opened, Zach rolled his head over to look. He was too lazy to get up and check. “Yo, Nico, is that you?”

"Nah, dude, it's fuckin' Santa Claus," Nico said with a laugh. "Of course it's me, and look who I brought." Nico reached into the paper bag that he had rested on the hallway table, and pulled out two medium-sized bottles. "Uncle Jack, and Cousin José! I ran into them on the way home, and they said they wanted to come party with us. Now how could I say no to that?" The sprite held the bottle of tequila above Zach, and let go once the alchemist took hold of it.

The last couple of days in their cottage had passed as if nothing had happened. Nico knew better than to prod, and ask questions after his friend had gone through that shit with Danté. Thankfully Zach had made it out with all his parts in tact, and the best part was that the psychopath was finally behind bars where he belonged. Nico doubted that the man would ever be released which was good for everyone involved.

Despite everything good that had happened Zach and Adrienne had managed to muck up the happy mood by getting into a fight. Nico heard about it from Zach, but they hadn't had a chance to talk about it in depth. Talking wasn't something guys did on purpose unless they were older, and had to go to therapy or some shit. Guys sat around, talked about everything except what bothered them, and then eventually the conversation turned serious. It made it seem less sissy that way.

So tonight was Zach and Nico's night for some much needed guy bonding filled with drinking, fuckin' around, and talking if that's what Zach wanted. Nico had a feeling that Zach might have been ready for it, but the sprite knew better than to push it. It would happen naturally, and with a little help of their extended "family".

“Santa Claus!” Zach hollered out, moving to sit up as he stretched his arms into the air. “Where the fuck are my presents?” he asked with a grin as his arms fell back to his sides. Zach normally didn’t curse as much as he did when he was round Nico, and it came out even more if liquor or marijuana was involved. Of course, they watched themselves on the marijuana. Zach didn’t want to fry what was left of his brain cells, so they only did it once every couple of months. Special occasions only. Tonight, it was just going to be alcohol. They didn’t need anything else.

He noticed the paper bag immediately. Leave it up to Nico to use the old-fashioned bagging technique for alcohol. Zach slowly shook his head as he took the bottle from Nico. “There’s no saying no to that,” he agreed, twisting open the cap to get a drink. The first few initial drinks were always nasty to Zach, but after a while the taste would dull down and he’d drink it more freely. He twisted the cap back on and set it aside, looking up at his friend.

“Well, are you gonna take a seat?” Zach asked, laughing at Nico. “No point in standing up all night.” Then, came the beginning of the bullshitting as guys called it, or ‘gossiping’ as girls called it. “So, what’s up with you and Umeko? Are you two dating, screwing around . . . something else entirely?” Nico surprisingly hadn’t gone into detail with Umeko like he usually did with girls, which piqued up Zach’s curiosity.

If there was anything that Nico could say about Zach was that the boy could drink when the occasion called for it, and with all of the stress he had been under lately Nico couldn't blame him for wanting to drown those sorrows. He smiled when Zach immediately took a swig from the bottle, and then patted him on the shoulder. "That'a'boy!" Nico was never short on enthusiasm when it came to inebriated bliss.

He flopped onto the floor next to Zach with good 'ole Jack in hand. He opened the bottle of whiskey, and took a swig of it before he set it down in between himself, and Zach, just in case the alchemist wanted some whiskey to go along with his tequila. Nico arched a brow when Zach brought up Umeko, but instead of answering him right away he picked up the bottle of whiskey for another drink. Nico wasn't a 'chick flick' sort of guy meaning that he didn't readily talk about things unless someone asked him, and since Zach asked he felt obligated to answer. It was his best friend after all, and he knew they'd eventually talk about it.

"Me and Umeko? Honestly?" Another swig, but only because it kept getting easier and easier with each one. "I dunno, man. I think we're dating. We are definitely screwing around, but man... I really like her. Like really." He shrugged, and took another drink. "Dude, I gave her my PSP," he said finally. "I didn't even my PSP to my brother when he asked for it." Nico usually talked casually about women, but Umeko was different in his eyes, and she deserved a little more respect than that.

"What's been going on with Adrienne, bro," he asked after a few minutes. "You mentioned a fight, but what happened? Are you still pissed at her, or something? I mean, shit, I haven't seen her in a few days, and that's saying a lot when it comes to you two."

Unscrewing the lid of the tequila bottle, Zach followed Nico and took a couple of more swigs as he waited for his best friend to answer the question. He knew Nico probably had to think about it for a moment because even the sprite might not have known what to call it. Zach listened, though, when Nico explained how things were going with Umeko. Zach arched an eyebrow at the PSP thing and gave a little shrug of his shoulders as if he wasn’t sure what to say to that. “Well, it is true,” Zach commented idly, drinking a little bit more tequila.

Umeko was a nice girl, so Zach figured Nico had some respect for her if he wasn’t going into enormous detail like he usually did. Not to mention exaggeration. Nico liked to exaggerate things sometimes. Zach hadn’t talked to her recently, but he had seen Umeko around. It looked like her hair had gotten longer.

Zach bit onto his lower lip when Nico brought up Adrienne. Okay, so it was sooner than expected. “Hmph,” Zach said at first, going for another swig of the tequila. It was getting easier for him to drink. “Yeah, we had a fight. I just . . . need some time alone, you know? I know if I’m around her right now, she’ll want to talk about it — or it’ll feel like an obligation to talk about it and in turn I’ll feel stressed and uncomfortable around her, and I . . . don’t want to talk about it right now, so we’re spending time apart.”

Zach downed a hefty amount of tequila. He meant that he didn’t want to talk about what happened with Dante, not about the fight. It just wasn’t something Zach was ready to face just yet. He needed some time to decode, process, and sort. Being around Adrienne would only constantly remind him of what happened . . . and Zach simply wasn’t ready.

Nico took another drink from his bottle. He could always count on Uncle Jack to get him through some tough times, and thinking too much about relationships and what not was definitely tough. He took two more drinks, and he couldn't even feel the burning as it passed down his throat anymore. Despite his inebriated state Nico did understand why Zach wouldn't want to be around Adrienne. Girls liked to talk about their feelings, or their problems. They had to talk talk talk talk talk until they felt better. That was their problem. They thought, and they talked too much.

It was weird hearing that Zach and Adrienne had gotten into a fight. Not a tiff, or a small misunderstanding, but a serious fight. One that was serious enough to garner an almost apathetic response from the alchemist. Nico thought it wasn't a good sign. Fights were never a good sign at least in the sprite's eyes. Hell, Zach and Adrienne were like a power couple to him especially after all the shit they had been through, and if they couldn't make it well then what chance did he and Umeko have?

"Spending time apart," Nico said finally. "Is that like saying that you broke up with her?" The sprite sat up a little straighter, and leaned forward a little bit. "Dude, is she back on the market 'cause if she is..." he bounced his eyebrows playfully, and there was a mischievous curl to his lips. "Man, I'd so hit that."

Nico might have thought the fight was a bad sign, but Zach didn’t see it in the same light. It was just a fight, and those things happened. Zach wasn’t as worried about it as his friend. Adrienne did send him cookies, after all; she wasn’t still mad at him about their fight, but Zach wasn’t quite ready to say something back yet. He was over it, too. It was just stubbornness holding him back from reconciling things so soon. He was allowed some time alone to comprehend and process things. That was all this was.

Zach glanced over at Nico as his friend asked if Adrienne was back on the market. For a moment, there was dead silence sitting between the two boys despite the music in the background. Zach didn’t even bother to say anything. Without warning, he launched at Nico and tussled his best friend to the ground. His arm went around Nico’s neck to get him in a headlock, and he squeezed tight to hold him in place amidst all of their struggling. Those were fighting words to Zach’s ears, and Nico was going to get what was coming to him for saying them out loud like that.

Having never been in a real relationship before Nico didn't know how to measure the severity of a fight. He only knew that Adrienne hadn't been over in almost a week, and that usually wasn't a good sign. He didn't take into consideration that Zach needed the time alone, and that despite the fight Adrienne understood that to some degree hence her staying away. No, Nico didn't think about any of that. And he wasn't really thinking when he asked if Adrienne was still on the market.

Without warning Zach had launched himself at Nico, and had gotten him into a headlock. Nico may have had wrestling experience from high school, but that didn't do him a lick of good when he didn't even see the attack coming. "Fuck dude," Nico exclaimed as he struggled to keep his bottle upright so the contents wouldn't spill. "You're gonna make me spill my booze!"

Nico used one hand to pull at the arm that was around his neck while the other hand was holding onto the open bottle. "You could've just said 'no'," he yelled though his voice was getting a little raspy from the pressure Zach was exerting. Though Zach was small he was fast, and scrappy, and Nico just didn't know how to fight against that.

Spilling booze was the least of Zach’s worries. He just wanted to get Nico back the old school way by making him cry uncle instead of talking about it. It was so much more fun this way. Nico didn’t have time to fight back. He had the open bottle in one hand and his hand on Zach’s arm, but Zach had the upper hand for being quick and agile and getting Nico in a good headlock. There were some people he could trump physically, even if he was small for a guy, and Nico was one of them.

He still hadn’t let his best friend go. “Now, where’s the fun in that?” Zach asked, and there was actually a grin on his face as he said it. “Cry uncle, and I’ll let you go.” Zach was proud of himself for getting the upper hand on his best friend, and he had to admit: it was a good feeling given recent events, even if it was just a playful tussle. It brought a sense of normalcy back to his life. “C’mon, say it,” Zach urged. “Say it.” He tightened his grip around Nico’s neck. It definitely wasn’t enough to hurt him, but it was enough to get him to plead for Zach to let him go.

In the midst of their tussle Nico had managed to find a flat spot for his bottle. Putting it down freed up one of his hands, but it didn't do him a lot of good considering the fact that Zach already had a good hold around his neck. Nico tried to pull at Zach's shirt to give him some leverage, but Zach was agile enough that he managed to stay just out of Nico's reach.

"Don't make me open a can of whoopass on you," Nico cried as he tried to roll over onto his back. He did, but only for a second since Zach refused to let go. In fact the alchemist tightened his grip around Nico's neck. It wasn't a lift-threatening grip, but it was enough to make it hard to breathe, and it made Nico's voice raspy when he did finally talk.

"Uncle! Uncle! Mother fuckin' uncle," Nico said. His chest shook with laughter, and he kept pulling at Zach's arm. "Let go of me, bitch," Nico continued to say. "Or I might puke all over the floor."

Zach smirked at his victory and finally released Nico from the headlock. He straightened his shirt by tugging at the bottom and ran a hand through his hair afterwards. “Next time,” Zach said, pointing over at Nico, “think before you speak.” Zach pointed at his head to indicate thinking was a good thing before he reached out for the bottle of tequila to get another drink. He wasn’t a big drinker, but certain times just called for alcohol consumption. This was one of those times. Of course, it never took much to get Zach drunk and he wouldn’t probably be knocked out like a light long before Nico. He’d best hope Nico didn’t write on his in his sleep or pull a shaving cream trick.

“It’s hard to imagine you attached to a girl,” Zach suddenly said, feeling the woozy affects of the tequila finally reaching his brain. His stomach tingled halfway between a good feeling and a bad feeling, and the corners of his vision were a soft sort of fuzzy. “Umeko’s nice and all, but you’ve just never been the type to stick to one and be happy, you know? I mean, it’s great if you are, it’s just . . . kinda weird at the same time.”

Yeah, Zach would rather talk about Nico than talk about himself. It wasn’t really important to go into too much detail with Adrienne since there wasn’t anything deeper going on than a fight. The Dante issue, however . . . that went deeper, but it didn’t mean Zach wanted to talk about it.

A small chuckle came from Nico when his "fight" with Zach was over. "Think?" There was a smirk on his lips, and he scoffed a little. "That's too much work," he said. He was joking, of course, but he felt like contradicting his best friend. "Besides, it's more fun to just say shit that'll freak you out," he said with a laugh before he picked up his precious bottle of whiskey.

The topic veered back to Umeko, and Nico didn't see any way out of talking about it. It wasn't that it was hard, or uncomfortable; on the contrary if he didn't restrain himself he'd run off at the mouth about the therianthrope. No, the truth was that Nico - for all his trash talking, and flirtatious antics - was actually a little bit superstitious when it came to relationships. In fact, he was afraid of jinxing whatever he had with Umeko if he talked about it too much. It was completely irrational, and possibly childish, but it was how he felt. And for the first time he didn't want to jinx what he had with Umeko because he really did like her.

Nico shrugged at Zach's comment. "I never have stuck with one girl," he answered easily. "But, I dunno," he said before he took another drink of his whiskey. "Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a steady girlfriend. Someone who is nice, and fun, and really does like me." The sprite was beginning to feel the effects of the alcohol on his body. His stomach was warm, as were his cheeks, and everything swayed a little when he moved. "I get jealous of you sometime, bro. You've got this girl who loves you, and you love her, and I want that. Not with Adrienne, but with someone, y'know? I mean it must be nice knowing someone loves you; someone who isn't family."

It was something that Nico had never really expressed out loud to Zach before, but there it was now. It wasn't the type of jealousy that could break up a friendship because Nico wasn't going to take what Zach had. He just wanted it, too; he wanted the type of happiness that Zach had, and he believed he found someone he could try to have a relationship with. Maybe if he really worked at it he could be happy, too.

Zach was quiet as his best friend admitted the truth to him. He pursed his lips in thought and glanced down at his bottle. He and Adrienne had a nice relationship, Zach believed as much, but sometimes he wondered about things. None of it was a current doubt he held himself, but he thought about things like what usually happened with young couples, and statistics, and ridiculous things like what people said about his age. It all rounded up to the possibility that nothing really lasted when you were that age, and sometimes it seeped into the corner of his brain and polluted the picturesque image of his time with Adrienne.

There was no telling how long it was last or if they would ever grow tired of each other. In the sullenness of his thoughts, the look on his face grew dark and he downed more of the tequila. The world was feeling topsy-turvy, and it matched his mood. “Yeah,” he said suddenly, his voice not as strong as before. “I guess so.” Talking too much in depth of his relationship with Adrienne was now becoming a fear for Zach as well tonight. He was feeling afraid, like Nico, that he would somehow jinx it if he agreed with Nico too openly, so he let it slide instead.

“You can have something with a girl,” Zach said, shrugging slightly, “but you never know where it’s gonna end up.” He snorted, gesturing vaguely between the two of them. “Especially guys like us. We’re, what, nineteen? Who knows what we’ll want tomorrow. It might be different from what we want today . . . ”

Maybe they were both too young to think about 'forever'. They were only nineteen, and things could change in the blink of an eye. It was kind of scary to talk about it, and even scarier to think about it so Nico did his best to not do either. He drowned his thoughts with more alcohol, and let out a laugh directed at nothing at all.

"Hells yeah we're nineteen," he said a little more boisterous than usual. "We should be out there banging every chick we can, and not be tied down! And then after we're done sowing our wild goats we can get married." He had risen to stand, and was holding his hand in the air with his bottle triumphantly. His body was swaying slightly, but he managed not to fall over when he moved to settle in one of the overstuffed armchairs.

He took another drink of the whiskey though in all honesty he probably shouldn't have. His rambunctious actions were replaced by a more quiet, somber mood, and a good half hour or so passed before he said anything to his best friend. "I'd want to have sex right now if I didn't think I'd puke all over the chick," he said with a small laugh. His speech was slurred, but that tended to happen when he nursed almost half of the whiskey bottle.

"You know," he began slowly. "Sometimes I don't think... chicks really... like me... Like I'm not cute, or some shit." He rolled his head to the side, and looked over at Zach. "Do you think I'm cute?" Nico was far too drunk to consider his words. His lowered inhibitions brought forth some of his insecurities as well. Who said that girls were the only ones who worried about their looks? Guys did, too, they just didn't talk about it out loud with other guys. Not unless they were drunk, and Nico most definitely was.

The words coming out of Zach’s mouth were the words beaten into his head by his father, sometimes from his mother, and by every other adult he’d ever encountered in his life. They always told him that he didn’t know what he wanted, that no one his age knew what they wanted, and it’d been beaten into his head so often that Zach started to believe it to be true. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy. If no one told him differently and wouldn’t let him believe differently, then he wasn’t going to see the forest for the trees.

Zach liked to think he knew what he wanted most of the time. He had been raised with way more responsibility than other kids his age, and he knew more about maturity and commitment than he was given credit for. Did any teenager get credit for those things, though? Hardly. Most adults liked to belittle the younger generations and tell them how confused they really were, how everything was just a phase, and one day they’ll grow into an adult when they’re starting to bald and looking for a second mortgage. Zach hated it. He wasn’t stupid, but they wanted him to believe he was. Slowly but surely, some of it started to seep in. The doubts were getting to him, if only because he was told he was supposed to doubt. He couldn’t stop the prophecy from coming true.

He laughed at Nico’s joke and fell over onto the floor. They remained quiet for a while, drinking more and more into a stupor, until Nico broke the silence. Normally, Zach would have scoffed at the ridiculous question, but he was actually trying to consider it this time. Zach frowned in concentration. “I dunno, dude. You’re kinda ugly,” he said, turning his head to look up at Nico from the floor. “I mean, you’re a dude. All dudes are ugly. It’s the nature of the universe.” Zach pointed at himself. “I’m fucking ugly, too.” Zach shook his head sadly. “Guys are just ugly, man. Law of nature.”

Nico had heard the same words his entire life, too, but unlike Zach they had already molded some of the sprite's beliefs. It was part of the reason he had never been in a long term relationship before. Sure, he always said it was because he didn't want to be tied down, but he didn't want to be tied down because all of the adults around him (and society, too) told him that he was supposed to be having fun when he was a teenager. Having fun meant not committing to one girl, and so Nico did just that. Of course it was witnessing Zach's relationship with Adrienne that got him to thinking about being serious for once in his life. He could give it a try even if it didn't work out in the end. The important thing was to try, wasn't it?

So this was his time to try with Umeko, and he would give it his best shot. And if some adult tried to tell him that it couldn't be done then he'd have to prove them wrong. If only Nico knew of the doubts starting to creep into his best friend's head he would have told him the same thing.

It was rare for Nico to get (somewhat) serious even when he was drunk, but this was a rare occasion. He wasn't sure what sort of answer he was expecting from Zach, but he didn't expect his best friend to call him ugly. Nico frowned a little, and reached behind his back for the pillow that rested there. He threw it at Zach, but it landed somewhere to the right of the alchemist. Damn motor skills were shot because of all the alcohol. "That's cold, man. I'm not that ugly," he said. He took to taking another sip of his whiskey before he placed the bottle on the coffee table. He was at his limit, and anymore than that would make him puke all over.

"You ain't ugly," Nico added after a few seconds. "Ugly guys don't get hot girlfriends. And you have a hot girlfriend, and I have a hot girlfriend. So we can't be ugly." He closed his eyes for a minute as he started to imagine something wonderful, and beautiful. It was enough to make his lips curl into a smile. "Dude... close your eyes and imagine our hot girlfriends being hot together. Oh my god, it's fuckin' amazing!"

Zach simply raised his eyebrows at the projectile pillow and turned his head a fraction just to look at it. Passiveness crept through the cracks and mellowed him out. He usually had one of three reactions to alcohol in his system, and two of those involved laughter or mellowness. He apparently wasn’t ripe for the hysterical reaction tonight, and instead found himself perfectly content doing absolutely nothing but lying on the floor and staring upward at the ceiling, even if a pillow did come flying his way. Still, Zach did smile mischievously knowing that Nico was trying to hit him with it.

“It’s not cold,” Zach countered his best friend with a mild shake of his head. “It’s the truth.” As for the hot girlfriends thing . . . “Well, you’re wrong there ‘cause ugly guys get hot girls a lot for other qualities, like money, or something cheesy like personality.” Zach chewed on his bottom lip. Maybe they had personality? It definitely wasn’t a hot thing for their girls from Zach’s point of view. He wasn’t that smoking and he couldn’t speak the same for Nico either, but Zach couldn’t judge a man’s looks anyway.

Zach followed the first instruction and closed his eyes, but he made a face at Nico’s further suggestion and reopened them to look incredulously at his friend. “Ew, what the hell? You’ve been all over Umeko, and I don’t want remnants of you getting on my girlfriend.” This time, Zach picked up the pillow and threw it at Nico. It landed on target, but the throw was so weak Nico probably didn’t feel it. “That’s disgusting.”

"Dude..." Nico began drawing out the word for a few seconds at the very least. "You gotta have more self-confidence. You ain't ugly, and I ain't ugly. Maybe... maybe our girls like us for both? Looks and personality, 'cause I sure the hell don't got any money." He laughed at his own little joke, and let out a loud burp. Nico didn't apologize for it; why should he when he was in the company of his best friend. Burping was a manly thing to do.

Nico continued to laugh only because of Zach's reaction. He would never understand why Zach didn't like the idea of two girls making out. If he didn't know better he'd think his best friend was gay, but that was far from the truth. He supposed it was a matter of taste, or how it grossed Zach out that "remnants" of him would get stuck on Adrienne. The more he thought about it the more he understood, and he let out an even louder laugh.

"I kiss Umeko. Umeko kisses Adrienne. Adrienne kisses you, and in the end that's almost like I'm kissing you. Ewwwww!" The mental image was just too much, and Nico shook his head to get rid of it. Shaking his head wasn't the best idea especially since all it did was make him even more dizzy. The room began to spin, and he closed his eyes to regain some sort of balance. "I'm never going to think about that again," he said as he shuddered before he settled further into the seat.

Zach shrugged his shoulders. Like he said, he wasn’t a good judge of men’s looks, so he didn’t know what was attractive and what wasn’t or what in him Adrienne thought was handsome. He supposed he was alright-looking. Zach never thought he was actually ugly, just a little round around the edges and soft-featured. He reached up and smoothed his fingers over his chin as if to feel for rough corners. There were some, but they weren’t terribly pronounced. Okay, he had slightly delicate features. It didn’t mean he wasn’t manly, did it?

The thoughts of manliness went out of the window when Nico had to say something to Zach’s protest of Umeko and Adrienne. Normally, Zach liked the idea of girl on girl . . . he just realized the idea of Adrienne wanting to kiss another girl made him all sorts of jealous. Wasn’t he good enough? She didn’t need a girl, did she? Maybe if they weren’t this deep in their relationship, he could toy with the idea and not be bothered by it. He didn’t remember stuff like this bothering him in the beginning, and it hadn’t.

“Yeah, don’t,” Zach added with a laugh. “It’s a dark, dark road once you go down it.”

As much as Nico liked to think he was good looking he was still very insecure about his appearance. In truth he thought he was average looking. He wasn't a supermodel that was for sure, but he knew he wasn't ugly. And beyond his somewhat flirtatious tendencies he thought he had a decent personality. If he found a girl he really liked he would be good to her; that was something his mother taught him when he was growing up.

If Nico had been dating Umeko for as long as Zach had been dating Adrienne he would feel the same way about seeing his girl kissing another chick. He would realize that it was more about being jealous, and that in some ways it had to do with feeling inadequate. No guy wanted to feel inadequate when it came to their girlfriends, and if their girl somehow wanted to kiss someone else then it meant they had somehow failed them.

"Yeah..." he said finally. His words were failing him now, and his speech was slurred. He had slumped further into the chair, and it was becoming hard to keep his eyes open. How long had he and Zach been drinking? He hadn't looked at the time, but it felt like hours had already passed. It was probably past midnight now. "It's a dark... dark... road. I don't want to be kissing you, bro. I love you, but no." He let out a loud burp, and yawned before he closed his eyes for a few minutes.

Zach made a sound of disgust, something between ‘eh’ and ‘ew,’ and shook his head at what Nico said to him. “Please to the no,” Zach slurred, as he felt sleep creeping up on his, too. The two boys had been drinking for a long while now, time passing them by faster than either of them noticed. It tended to slip by fast under the influence of alcohol. All of the fun eventually ended in complete tiredness and an inability to keep one’s eyes open. Zach, of course, was having a lot of trouble with staying awake, much the same way as Nico.

“Yeah, yeah, dude,” Zach mumbled out of nowhere. “I think we need to sleep,” he said, turning over onto his side on the floor and cuddling a couch pillow under his head. The soft carpet of the floor would keep him feeling comfy at least until he woke up with a crick in his neck the next morning. Both boys drifted off to sleep with Uncle Jack and Cousin José unsafely nearby. Hopefully, they wouldn’t get knocked over and stain the carpet sometime in the middle of the night. Neither Zach nor Nico could care much about that when they could barely even think at all, not with dreams on the horizon.

Boys were boys, after all.
