Who: Midori and Irei
When: Afternoon
Where: Irei and Sascha's bungalow
What: Midori goes looking for Sascha, but finds Irei instead

It was time for Midori to take care of some business.

Oh, it had nothing to do with her position on the Vice Council. She had no doubt she would be called into duty soon. News of the showdown had reached her. But she was certain the High Council would be handling the situation themselves. She would come when she was called, but not before. She had some... More personal issues to attend to.

She knew of Mitsuko's affection for Zechariah Kitano and Adrienne Conte. No doubt she was preoccupied with what had happened to them. Too preoccupied to spend time with her lover. That gave Midori a rare opportunity.

It had been well over a month since she'd discovered Mitsuko's involvement with Sascha Connolly. As with Loki before him, she found the idea... Troubling, to say the least.

There were so few of their kind left. Much of their own clan had disappeared before arriving in Elysium. The idea of Mitsuko breeding with a human, diluding their bloodline...

Even with her flaws, the daughter of Kamiyama Midori was far too good for a perverse, smartaleck, human Gaijin. She needed to let the man know that.

There was also her want to have her command respected by someone. While she was part of the Vice Council, she could not say she felt entirely useful. In fact, she felt rather impotent on most things. But Mitsuko... Mitsuko was something she might be able to exact some control. Mitsuko was her daughter after all. She was perfectly within her right to control what Mitsuko did.

She opened the door and allowed herself in. Like her daughter, she had little use for knocking. The home was not large and it wasn't long before she found someone. It was not, however, whom she'd come her to see. Rather, it was the other. "Arakaki Irei," Midori said impassively. "You were not the resident I expected to see."

Sascha hadn't come home last night.

Irei was used to Sascha not always coming home until the next day, but even the dogs were gone. He decided to wait and give his friend some time before he decided to go out and search for his telepathic friend. Sascha was a big boy and could take care of himself, but that didn't stop Irei from working about his stupid ass.

Noon passed and Irei figured he should probably head out and look for him. He wasn't in any hurry and had just stepped out of the shower when he picked up his black cat. She had been wandering around the currently empty bungalow. It wasn't often that she had the run of the house without a big dog trying to play with her.

Irei was in a towel when he heard the woman speaking in Japanese to him. He turned and looked at her. He could tell almost right off that this woman must have been Mitsuko's mother. They looked very similar.

"Konichiwa Midori-san." He picked up a pack of cigarettes that had been lying on a end table. "I see you have your daughters manners when it comes to entering someone's home."

He looked at her strangely, and then looked down at his own crotch smiling. He placed the cat down and then looked back up at her. "Then who exactly were you expecting?"

Midori took a step towards Irei. His near nudity didn't even phase her as she kept her gaze trained on his. "I would have thought you would know well enough to refer to me at least as Kamiyama-san, if not by my proper honorific." She said firmly. She cocked her head to the side. "And you will find I am very different from my child." She leaned in and pulled the cigarette from Irei's lips. Disgusting habit. "But she's been making herself at ease with entering your home often? I shouldn't be surprised by that, given Connolly-san's greeting of me when he thought I was her."

She sat down primly, smoothing down her kimono. "I came to see your roommate. I wished to discuss my daughter's relationship with him." She ran an idle thumb over her lip as she observed the man. "Maybe you can explain to me how that came to pass. It was you-- was it not-- that was caught with Mitsuko at the temple. How is it your roommate became her lover rather than you?" She paused. "Unless...." Her lip curled in absolutely disgust. "Connolly-san spoke of your generosity. Tell me that generosity does not include passing my daughter around like some cheap whore."

She had not considered that option until she had seen Irei. But now that she had, it seemed the only possibility. Irei was very attractive, the very type of man Mitsuko would like. She also had no doubt her daughter would be so depraved as to be the lover to two friends.

"I would if I cared. But I think living in America has kind of killed most of my Japanese mannerisms, Kamiyama-san. Besides, you didn't use an honorific for my name and if you had any manners at all, you would have knocked before entering someone's house. I could have been walking around naked for all you knew." And he had been not to long ago. Irei tightened his towel to make sure it wouldn't fall off during his conversation with Mitsuko's highbrow mother.

He looked at the lady as she sat down without being invited. "Well as you can see, my roommate is not here at the moment. So what is your reason for staying?"

Irei decided not to answer her question about him and Mitsuko and the night at the temple. She seemed to know very well that it was him. A smirk curved his lips as she seemed to put two and two together. "You're daughter is not a whore. She's very selective about who she sleeps with, how many, and with whom. Why, are you jealous that your daughter has more fun than you Kamiyama-san?"

While she was a very striking older woman, Irei did not like having someone come into his own home and act if they owned the place. He gave her a once over, flicking his eyes over her body quickly before returning to her gaze.

He continued to smirk as he walked over to the bristly madam kitsune and spoke, but in English this time, "The first time your daughter came to us, Sascha and I had a very good time. She did too, of course, and we still do." He leaned down until he was very close to her, "Were you looking to take us for a ride as well?"

Irei actually hoped he could shock or anger the imperial lady enough into making her leave so that he could finish getting ready to go out and look for his friend.

Midori's lip curled in distaste. While there were quite a few Japanese citizens in Elysium, it seemed most had been spoiled by Western ways. She wanted to hold onto the ways of their people, but the more she met, the more fruitless it seemed the exercise was. She smiled at Irei's comment about her manners. It was not a true smile, it was tinged with bitterness. "Oh, I know how my manners were lacking. But threatening someone is hard to do when one maintains perfect social graces."

Midori cocked her head to the side as she surveyed Irei. "I stay because it seemed I have much an issue with you as I do Connolly-san."

She sneered at the smirk on Irei's face and rolled her eyes at his claims Mitsuko was not a whore. "She's an idiot, that's what she is. An ungrateful brat who spits on the traditions of our people and throws every opportunity I have given her back in my face. I have spent twenty-two years being embarrassed by that girl. The 'fun' she has is disgraceful. You are disgraceful, hardly a fitting companion for the heir to the Tenko Kitsune."

Her back stiffened as Irei moved closer to her. She hadn't even considered the possibility Mitsuko was sleeping with them both at the same time. In fact, Midori wasn't even wholly aware that was possible. The very idea made her feel sick to her stomach. There was a flash of anger in the woman as Irei leaned closer. She wanted to grab him, choke the life out of him, but she held back. "You are a vile piece of garbage, Arakaki Irei. I wouldn't touch you to scratch you. And if you continue to use that child as your personal slut, you will regret it."

"So you admit that you came here to threaten someone? Hardly seems like that type of activities a vice council member should be participating in. Not to mention, I'm sure it still somewhat illegal to break into someone's home. You are a lot more like your daughter than you care to admit." He smirked.

Irei had never cared for the overly polite way many Japanese people insulted each other without actually doing anything insulting. It didn't seem like Midori cared much for that type of thing either even though she professed an interest in preserving a culture that Irei had never cared for anyways. Having been teased at a young age and then locked away for most of his childhood because of his perceived mental state, left him with little love for the society he had been born into.

"I have done nothing to you. What issue could you have with me?"

He gave her a cold look.. “If you feel that strongly about her, then why not just disown her and leave her be. It would probably be best for the both of you. You don’t look so old. You could probably have another litter, or whatever you kitsune call it.” If she could just outright and insult him, then he could return the favor.

Irei smiled at her; it was a mocking smile. “You are wrong on two accounts. First of all, Mitsuko is hardly a child. I believe she has proven that on more than one occasion. Second of all, I don’t use her as a slut. She uses me as one, because I happen to be one. And what, dear lady, is wrong with that? The last I checked it was not against the law. And it is hardly any of your business who I sleep with.”

“You might want to be careful who you threaten to scratch.” He stood up straight looking down at her. “Certain people, not limited to present company, might actually like it. Now will you please kindly get the fuck out of my house?”

"My daughter transcends all duties I have to Elysium. I will do anything I must to protect her, even if it means protecting her from her own stupidity." She did care about Mitsuko, very deeply. She cared about how Mitsuko embarrassed her and tossed aside their traditions as if they meant nothing. She clung to the hope that the girl would come around eventually.

Midori never had much use for the subtly of their culture. She was a woman and had come to power young in Kitsune years. She had to push and be aggressive for anyone to listen to her. Even thought people were far more open to her now, it was a habit she found it hard to break.

"You have disgraced me by touching my daughter. How can you think I wouldn't take issue with that?" She looked hard at Irei. "This is Mitsuko's birthright. Her destiny. It is what she was meant for." She would not admit to him she could have no more children, that Mitsuko was and always would be her only heir.

"Sleep with whoever you want, slut... Except for Mitsuko. Who she sleeps with is my business." She cocked her head. "You are an attractive man. You most likely have your pick of sexual partners. And you don't seem to care much for emotional ties. So why do you care if you continue to sleep with Mitsuko? Just stop seeing her and I will leave you alone."

Irei looked down at the older woman refusing to yield even as time changed and took away everything she had known and cared about. All this woman had left was the power she seemed to need to exact over her daughter. Irei almost felt pity for her, but the woman's attitude made it really hard to forgive her actions.

He spoke softly and coldly, "Birthright? Who gives a fuck about birthrights now? Is that going to bring the kitsune race back from the brink of extinction? Is that going to make it so that you can return to your beloved Nihon? Japan is a wasteland now."

He had felt bitter for a long time. Everyone just seemed to move so seamlessly into this new world that they were in. Kids who should have been traumatized beyond anything acted as if nothing had changed. Grown up adults believed that their families were still alive even though they were no where near havens at the time of most of the disasters. Some people including himself just got by on a wave of apathy and periodically got drunk on purpose just to avoid it.

"I do sleep with whoever I want, as long as they want to sleep with me. Your daughter positively loves it. She comes back to me often. And there is not a damn thing you can do that can stop that."

Irei pulled out a cigarette from the pack on the table and lit it with the lighter that had been sitting next to it. "I hear you throw the term 'gaijin' around. You realize that you are the gaijin here, ne? I doubt very seriously that you were born in this place Kamiyama Midori-san. That insult really only works in Japan.

Midori was stunned to silence at the words of the young man. He was right. Exacting power over Mitsuko would not bring back Japan or the Kitsune. There was no one for her to breed with to keep the race going. They were truly endangered. But she couldn't give up yet. She couldn't just lie down and let time shatter everything she had worked to preserve in her life. She might not have been the Light of Hokkaido any longer, but she was still Kamiyama Midori.

"Do you wish her to fall in love with you?" Midori asked, cocking her head slightly. She needed to change her tactic in dealing with this one. "Yes, you share her with your roommate, but as I said she is deeply stupid. And certainly she had been stupid over you. She desperately clung to that muse, but he abandoned her. And that left... You. She clutches to you, comes to your bed, confides in you... You don't think her feelings for you are more than sexual?"

She approached Irei once again, ignoring the haze of smoke around him. "Do you wish for that, Arakaki Irei? Do you wish for the love of Mitsuko? Because if you keep this up, that is what you are going to get."

Irei watched Kamiyama as she seemed to take a thoughtful pause. It was times like this that Irei almost wished that he had his friend's ability to read minds.

He smiled bitterly at her. "Your daughter knows what would happen if she fell in love with me. It wouldn't be pretty."

He laughed and blew smoke in her direction. "We share her? No no, Kamiyama-san. Sascha spoke of my generosity? No, it is your daughter who is generous. She seems quite content to share both our beds, or just one all together." He grinned wickedly at her.

"Besides, what do you care if she fell in love with me? I understood you didn't approve of Loki because he wasn't kitsune or Japanese. At least I'm Japanese. I think you could learn to compromise." He held the cigarette out and away from her as she approached him.

"Why exactly are you still in my home? I think your are finished talking to me now, because frankly I don't give a shit about what you have to say."

Irei did not particularly require the ability to mind read to know what Midori was thinking. The contempt and disgust was clear on her face. Despite this, she managed a small laugh. So, this man had no use for love. Well, she could at least respect him for that. But that was the most she could offer him. "I'd say that it would not be pretty for you either."

She didn't flinch at the smoke. She didn't much care for it, but she wasn't going to show weakness in front of this man. She could feel the bile rising at the idea that Mitsuko so freely went between these two men, even going as far as to sleep with them together. Deplorable.

"Compromise--" Midori glared at Irei. "--Is just another word for defeat. And I do not like to lose. That is why I don't."

She looked over Irei carefully. "You just keep that in mind, Arakaki Irei."

Without another word, Midori strode out of the bungalow. Oh, things were going to change in Mitsuko's life. There was no way Midori would let this stand.
