Sunday: February 3, 2008
Who: Dante, Zach, and whoever else wants to join in
When: Evening, after this
Where: The Temple
What: The showdown finally comes to an end

Too many voices. There were just too many voices inside, and out for Dante to deal with. He had to run. Had to feel free even though he was anything but. There was no freedom in this place, and so his frustrations were showing themselves in the most violent of ways.

The lycanthrope carried Zach through the more deserted areas of the town. Back alleys that were nothing like the ones of New York or L.A., but still back alleys with little light, and places to hide. But Dante didn't stop to hide. He just ran, and ran, holding Zach tightly in his clutches. Without realizing it he ran all the way to the Elven temple, a place that would normally be a sanctuary would be the place where Zach would meet his end. It seemed fitting in the werewolf's mind even though it would effectively corner him in one place. Dante just wasn't thinking clearly, but every decision he made was backed-up with a fallacy he created in his mind.

Inside the temple Dante dropped Zach to the floor before he put a heavy foot on his back. He began to revert into a human form if only so he could talk to Zach. He was shirtless when he was done, and wearing a pair of tattered jeans. Dante knelt in front of Zach, and lifted his head by pulling on Zach's hair. "I don't usually kill men," he said with a smirk. "But I'll make an exception for you just like I made an exception for that other guy. What was his name—" He paused, and tapped his chin with his free hand. "Oh right, Simon. You remember Simon, don't you?"

When Zach hit the floor of the temple’s main room, he wondered if Dante had dragged him here on purpose. The werewolf had moved fast enough to lose track of those who chose to follow him, and the temple itself was stranded. It was usually empty as far as Zach had seen, except for in the daytime when the priests and priestesses were there. People didn’t linger for too long at this particular building, and Zach wasn’t sure what the exact reason was for it. He was far from being in the mood to debate religion and philosophy. But Dante had the perfect place to hide while he did whatever he wanted to do with Zach.

He pulled on Zach’s hair, and Zach gritted his teeth. He knew he should have gotten a haircut recently, but he hadn’t anticipated this being the reason for it. The last thing he expected was the revelation of Simon’s fate from Dante. Zach had wondered where the other lycanthrope had gone. Clearly, he hadn’t decided to leave Adrienne alone. He was murdered instead, and no one knew but Zach now — and it looked like his shelf life was almost up.

“So it was you,” Zach said. “Great . . . you’re knocking down everyone Adrienne’s been with. I guess this is to clear the way for you, yeah? I’m sure Adrienne will fall all over herself for a psychotic, murdering freak like you . . . ”

A sadistic laugh echoed throughout the temple; vaulted ceilings made for excellent acoustics, and Dante liked the way his laugh sounded in the building. He released Zach's hair, and then patted the boy's head in a way that showed endearment. A stark contrast from the roughness he exhibited, but Dante wasn't exactly in his right mind to begin with.

"It was too easy," Dante said proudly. "Cocky young pup like Simon thought he could have it all. I had to teach him a lesson; show him who was really the alpha in this place." Dante sat down on the ground near Zach, dark eyes watching the boy as if he were prey. "Surprised me when they kept it hush hush, but-" he paused, and then shrugged his shoulders. "Not my problem. He was a problem, and then I handled it. Just like how I'm going to handle you." He patted Zach's shoulder again in a friendly manner, and even let out a chuckle. Oh the thoughts running through Dante's mind at the moment were to chaotic to pinpoint, but he had learned long ago how to sift through all the madness. His actions could be very frantic at times, while others they were calculated and well thought out. At that moment Dante was calm, and he planned on dragging out Zach's torture for as long as he could.

"Adrienne will do whatever I tell her to do," he said. "I'm the alpha male. I only killed Simon because he bothered her, and now I'm going to kill you because you've blinded her, and made her forget that she loves me." He pushed a finger roughly into Zach's forehead while glaring at the boy. "I knew her first. Saw her first. She belongs to me. For a long time I thought I had lost her, but then I was brought here to this haven, and I found her." He let out a short laugh, and shook his head in disbelief. "I mean, what are the odds, huh? What are the odds that I'd find her after ten months of searching? If it wasn't meant to be then fate wouldn't have brought me and her together. She's mine, been mine ever since I saw her in Greece 2 summers ago. Mine ever since that night in Chicago—"

His eyes were glazed over then, pupils dilated as he remembered the cold November night that he tasted Adrienne's blood for the first time.

Listening to the madman was almost too much for Zach to swallow. He couldn’t stand the sound of Dante’s voice ringing in his ears, and it took all of his willpower to not let himself become livid from his little speech about Simon. It was too late to be furious over blood split months ago. What good would the feeling even do him now? Even if Zach didn’t like Simon, the guy was far from deserving of death.

“They all saw you taking me away,” Zach said, nostrils flaring with a sense of pride that at least he would be avenged if he died tonight. “If I show up dead, who do you think they’ll go after? Do you really think killing me is going to get you a free ticket to Adrienne? It’ll get you a free fucking ticket to your own grave.” Zach didn’t know murderers, but he knew people who would kill to protect him. If only they were here now . . .

The way Dante spoke about Adrienne . . . like she should love him . . . he knew her first . . . the searching, Greece, Chicago — it all dawned on Zach slowly as a soft light arose in his eyes. His expression turned to a quiet surprise. There was no anvil dropping, just the empty sensation in the pit of his stomach. “You,” Zach said breathlessly. “It was you . . . the one who turned her . . . ”

Zach never thought he would come face to face with the werewolf who turned Adrienne into another werewolf. It felt like a foggy dream, and Zach was waiting to jolt awake in the comfort of his bed.

Suddenly, his face turned sour as he glared venomously at the older man. “You know, the only good thing Adrienne said came out of her transformation was the fact that if you hadn’t changed her, she never would have even met me.” A smug grin, mixed with his disgust for Dante, appeared on the younger man’s face. “So, I guess I have you to thank for that. Good way to foil your own plan, you stupid fuck.”

Nico wasn't always the brightest crayon in the box. He was dense, and crude, and sometime he was just plain dumb. But he knew trouble when he saw it, and a fully formed werewolf carrying around a man was definitely trouble. He could have gone home without another thought, but something told him to follow the creature into the temple.

His heart was pounding in his chest, and sweat began to bead along his brow, and he hadn't even seen the werewolf yet! But he heard talking, and the voices that echoed in the temple were ones he had heard before. It was Danté, the crazy ass son of a bitch, and Zach. The man that was in the werewolf's clutches was his best friend. Nico felt anger welling up in his chest, and without a second thought he made himself known to the sociopath.

"I know I told you before to stay away from Zach, mother fucker." He stood in the middle of the aisle with his arms over his chest. He was no match for a werewolf, but he was going to at least distract the monster long enough for Zach to get away.

Dylan burst through the doors of the temple and through the hallway to the open arch at the end. He could see the man, Dante Donovan, with the young man he had kidnapped at the far end with the altar. The news traveled to Dylan as soon as it had reached the Guards of Elysium. He had taken a horse and rode through the area, inquiring news of those he passed which direction the werewolf and boy were last seen approaching. The trail ended at the temple, and crowds were gathering outside.

None of the other council members were here, only him. Dylan couldn’t explain what urged him to make his presence known or why he decided to show up inside of the temple. He felt he could talk some sense into Dante before the man hurt the younger boy anymore. Dylan wasn’t brash enough to use his powers without thinking of the possible consequences. One wrong slip could cause the boy his life, and Dylan knew how precious it was to his family and friends. A mistake like that would be unforgivable.

Dylan spotted a third person already inside of the temple and recognized him as Nico, one of Zach’s friends. “Nico, back away!” Dylan ordered, his deep voice rumbling through the temple. “Don’t put your friend’s life in jeopardy with foolish behavior . . . ”

Dione had followed from the Marketplace. Did that make her insane? Probably. Even if she knew what he was capable of, she still made her way to the Temple following along like the poor lost puppy it seemed she had become. Her breath was ragged from running so hard, but she immediately tried to suck it up. Hide the weakness as best she could. After all, there was no reason for her to allow her weakness to show.

Unfortunately, she didn't get to hear what was said about Adrienne and her place in Dante's life. Not that it would have mattered much. She was deluded, perhaps a little insane herself. So it would have simply gone in one ear and then out the other.

So she had slipped inside, quietly as she could, careful. Not wanting to draw attention to herself in spite of the feeling that she wanted him to acknowledge her again. He'd howled at her earlier and it was something like a bar being placed in a cage, one more thing closing her in now. The vibration of Dylan's voice along the temple walls made her head ring, it felt huge though she knew it came from a human mouth. It was probably just her hearing causing it to feel like so much.

Yet he wasn't what she was listening for. Dante was what she was listening for. Anything and everything from him.

The last thing Dante needed was an audience, but there it was forming right before his eyes. He would have rather killed Zach in private, but if people wanted to see the boy being ripped from this life and thrown into the next then that was their business. People were sick these days, he thought, and it was very much the pot calling the kettle black.

But he was far from being in his right mind. He was someplace he created, someplace where his actions were right and everyone else was wrong. They were wrong wrong wrong!

And Zach was the most wrong of them all.

Dante glared at the boy as he spoke of Adrienne like he knew her. As if he were closer to the female werewolf than he was. Dante made her. She belonged to him. No one else, especially not Zach, had any claim to her. "She got away from me then," Dante said to Zach as he lifted the boy into the air. "But God put her back in my sights. He gave her back to me." He scoffed a bit, and then pulled Zach closer so he could whisper into his ear. "She might not love me now, but she will in time. I'll make her."

With that Dante delivered a hard punch to Zach's midsection to knock him out. The boy had a mouth on him that he didn't like, and it seemed to extend to his close friends as well. The werewolf looked down the aisle at Nico, and then James. Two peons that could be taken out easily. They weren't a problem, and Dante was far from worried. It was the appearance of Dylan that forced the lycanthrope to let out a slow breath. In his time in the haven Dante learned about the people around him, and Dylan was someone he learned he could not face on a whim. The man was a djinni, and that carried much power.

"The boy's life is already in danger with or without that idiot," Dante said to Dylan. "No one here understands what this is about, and none of you can stop it."

Some people could say they were capable of taking a beating. Zach wasn’t one of those people. Okay, maybe he had a mouth on him and maybe he was tough in spirit, but toughness in spirit didn’t save someone from a knockout punch to the gut that crippled him. The force against his midsection felt like his entire insides had rearranged themselves, and his vision was swimming with dizziness and nausea. The only thing holding him upright anymore was Dante’s grasp, tugging him along wherever Dante wanted to bring him. He wasn’t unconscious, but he was out of it. They weren’t getting anything out of him after that.

He may have heard the voices echoing in the background of the buzz in his ears, but it didn’t mean much to Zach. The urge to vomit was strong, but it had been a long time since Zach had eaten and there wasn’t anything in his stomach to come up but acid. He shut his eyes against the blurry, swaying images before him. More people had come, but Zach couldn’t pay attention to them, not even if one of them was Adrienne or someone in his family.

Everything was far, far away, a bad nightmare on the edge of his vision. He clung to the arm that held him and prayed for it all to go away soon.

James didn't really know what was going on throughout the day. He hadn't slept all night, so throughout the day he had been sleeping. When he got up, as usual he and his dad only exchanged a few words before he set out into the evening. He could tell something wasn't right. Not just because he only had two cigarettes left in his pack, but there was something in the air. Normally, he would have just turned and went home. But instead, he turned his uneasy feeling into somewhat of a "I dare you". He dared himself to follow the trail of his uneasiness.

The uneasiness eventually sent him to the exterior of the Temple and he could hear a slight commotion. He was so anxious he could almost feel himself shaking. Maybe people in the temple could take care of it? What if the people in the Temple were in trouble? "For fucks sakes."

He looked at his cigarette which was now about half finished and let his lungs devour one last intake of smoke before he tossed his cigarette to the side then shortly found himself inside of the premise. Quickly, he was next to Nico, out of breath and unsure what to say. "Yeah...uhm..Mother fucker!" He knew Nico, talked to him from time to time. The guy seemed like a kick ass person. So he wasn't going to let him be a dumb ass alone.

James then noticed that Nico's best friend was in turmoil. All the therianthrope could do was hope that their brave antics would do more good for Zach than bad. He wasn't as familiar with Zach than he was with Nico, but he knew the two were very close. He wanted to make sure he could help out somehow with the situation.

Though it may not have seemed so, Edelia cared about her new friends not getting hurt. She advised River and Cameron to return to their residence (and she was sure Cameron would be needed at the Medical Pavilion so he sure as hell better get a good nights sleep) and went with Adrienne to see where Dante had gone off to. She knew Adrienne was desperate to have this over, the naga couldn't blame her. The douche bag had her boyfriend within his grasp. She still wanted to bite him, but that would have to wait.

In truth, the girls had been there for quite some time. Edelia held Adrienne by the arm while she found a place to slightly to take cover while she watched more people stumble on the scene unfolding. It wasn't hard to find Dante at the temple. Maybe it was, but the two girls just followed Dante's rather retarded instincts.

As even more people poured in, Edelia sighed. "No offense. But that Spanish guy is bringing on a whole lot of stupid. I understand the bromance and all, I'd want to save my best friend and all too. But the idiot is going to get himself killed. Maybe others too" She looked down for a moment before returning her glance at Adrienne. "I mean that with genuine care." She forgot what a bitch she could be. "Don't go rushing in there without me. You need back up..and stuff

Helpless.

Adrienne felt completely, and utterly helpless, and she hated it. No, she loathed it, and she searched her brain for a solution to the current situation. All she wanted to do was get Zach away from Danté, and she'd sacrifice herself if that would work but the psychopath had run off without giving it another thought. She and Edelia had followed Danté to the temple, and Adrienne wondered why in the world he even went there in the first place. It didn't make any sense, but at least it cornered the madman for a short while. This might have been the break they needed.

She and Edelia arrived shortly after Nico, but instead of making themselves known Edelia had lead them to a secluded area to plan their next move. Adrienne was glad Edelia was there with her since without her she would have already made a rash decision that could have gotten Zach, and herself, killed. Her heart was racing, and there was a slight sheen of sweat upon her brow. She was scared, not for herself but for her boyfriend who was still in Danté's grasp.

Adrienne glanced at Edelia from the corner of her eyes. The girl was right, Nico was just making it worse even though she could understand his intentions. Zach was Nico's best friend, his brother from another mother as Nico liked to put it, and he knew he'd do anything for Zach. But his actions were stopped by Dylan just as more people arrived on the scene. Adrienne recognized James as he took a stand alongside Nico; she had seen the other man hanging out with Nico from time to time, and she assumed that he must have known Zach, too.

"This really sucks," Adrienne said as her eyes got a little teary. She ran her fingers through her hair, and pulled at the strands in frustration. "There has to be something I can do," she said just as she stood up. She began looking around for something... anything that could tip the scales in this insane showdown.

Marley wasn't the type of girl who backed down after a situation. Leaving things unfinished wasn't exactly her style. Though she wasn't the confrontational type of girl necessarily, she somehow felt involved in this situation.

The empath couldn't say when she arrived. All she knew was that she was far from being among the first one there. It wasn't hard to find her way there. She just stayed in tune with the reckless angered emotions Dante harbored. She was getting better at not being so overwhelmed with the emotions because she was determined to find a way to ease herself into the current situation. She didn't make herself known at first, she hid in various places while she watched.

The two boys, James who she knew and Nico who she did not must have had a death wish. They were making the situation worse. After a while, she also noticed two girls hiding out and slithered next to them. She heard Adrienne said "this sucks" and laughed. "Sure does." Marley ruffled her hair a bit and gave Adrienne an "are you serious?" look. "Going in there right now is not a good idea. There are already two jack asses trying to get themselves killed. I don't think we should go out there yet."

"Great." Edelia said with a frustrated sigh. "We're like the Charlie's Angels. We're beautiful but we can't do shit." She turned away from the situation and decided to think about what they could do. Was it best to just let other people handle it? She doubted Adrienne would be okay with that. She would want to stick it through until she knew Zach was okay. "I think your name is Marley right? We need ideas. So if you have any, just feel free to shoot them out there."

She tapped her fingers against her knees, then finally turned back towards the situation. "Can't we hit him with something silver and call it a day? The guy doesn't know we are here yet. Maybe we can sneak behind. I want in on the action dammit. It sucks just watching a bunch of idiots do this wrong over us maybe coming up with a good plan." Edelia always thought girls thought with their brains and guys..well they had another head they sometimes used.

Dylan seemed to actually be the smartest one there. He wasn't trying to be all bad ass. He cared about the situation and his tactics were probably going to save people's asses. Of course, she didn't know about Hayate yet.

Adrienne didn't know Marley, but for some reason her appearance made Adrienne a lot more calm. She took a deep breath, and realized that if she ran into the situation recklessly that it would only do more harm than good. She nodded at Marley, and then looked over at Edelia. Adrienne knew she was lucky that she had someone (and now two someones) to keep her from doing anything stupid. The female werewolf had a tendency to not think when it came to Zach. She would do anything for him, even sacrifice herself.

"We do need a plan, but with so many people scattered around it would be hard to put anything together." Adrienne copied Marley's action, and ruffled her own hair in frustration. She felt like a small child, the type that hid in a corner while an adult took care of everything. In this situation the djinni was the 'adult', and all she could do was hope that Dylan would save Zach from Danté's grasp.

It was then that Hayate stumbled into the temple. His appearance forced Adrienne to stand, and she took a step forward mindlessly. "Hay-Hayate," she muttered under her breath at the appearance of Zach's relative. The vampire was still in the dungeon the last she heard so seeing him there was a big surprise. Adrienne didn't know what to think, but that didn't seem to matter since it seemed he was there to help Zach.

It was the spark of hope that Adrienne needed, and in that moment she truly believed that everything would be okay.

Nico was a hot head, and he often didn't think about the consequences of actions until after the fact. His impulsiveness was usually something that he decided on his own, but having friends around usually pushed the boy just a little bit more. If anything friends gave Nico more confidence, and when James arrived by his side Nico's confidence skyrocketed. He smiled over at the therianthrope, and nodded a hello. He had hung out casually with James from time to time, and Nico would call him a friend though they weren't as close as he and Zach. The fact that James stood there next to him during the situation earned him a lot of respect in Nico's eyes, and the sprite made a mental note that he had to hand out with him more often.

"Now's there's two of us, mother fucker," Nico said as he took a step forward. "What you gonna do about that? You can't take the both of us." Nico didn't know the strength that Danté possessed, but he was positive that he and James could take him down. He would have literally leapt forward had Dylan not arrived, and told him to stand back. Nico shot the djinni a look, but kept quiet. He looked forward at Zach, his teeth sliding roughly over one another. "Don't worry buddy! We'll get you outta here!"

He took a step back, and pulled James with him. "Got any ideas," he asked James quietly. "Don't you turn into an animal, or something? Maybe we can do something with that." Though he had stepped away to gain some privacy he failed to notice that Dione was close enough to overhear them. Even if he had noticed her he wouldn't have even thought for a second that the girl would have sided with Danté, and not with the victim.

James seriously felt like he was going to throw up, but he kept up a persona like he was just as badass as Nico. He hadn't shaved in a few days so that helped right? Not to mention he lit a cigarette because holy shit, if he didn't, he was going to piss his pants. He wasn't dealing with an ordinary dick head kidnapping someone. This guy could probably kill them. "Yeah Zach! Just hang tight!" And let Nico and him get their heads out of their asses and think of a good plan.

James turned his head lightly to speak with Nico and whispered to him harshly. "Shit man! I only turn into a red fox! What the hell is that going to do. I mean I can..maybe..I don't know jump on his neck? Crawl towards help. I'm nothing that of frightening I can tell you that much."

The therianthrope couldn't fathom why someone would want to be on the side of this monster causing such destruction. James just couldn't even picture a soft side. That was like Paris Hilton being a virgin.

Dylan treaded on this ground lightly, knowing the risks to the boy in Dante’s grasp if he hastily rushed forward. More people were showing up inside of the temple, and Dylan knew they could serve as distraction but they could also irritate the werewolf. He didn’t like the chances in this situation. It had also been far too many years since he had faced anything similar to the events of tonight. Hundreds of years. Djinn were calmer people than many other groups, and they were also less violent. Dylan hadn’t encountered anything like this since his last encounter with humans. The thought alone was despairing.

Dylan didn’t know the man personally. In fact, he had never met him, but he heard the bustle of whispering and talking around him. The man’s name was Dante, and Dylan thought it best to refer to him by his name if he wanted the kidnapper to listen to him.

“Dante,” Dylan spoke softly, using his calmest voice possible. His hand was stretched out before him, palm down, as if to show he was not going to act suddenly in a way that would startle the man. Startling was the worst option at this point. “You don’t want to hurt the boy.” Dylan shook his head, furrowing his brow. “He can’t do anything to you. He’s not a threat. He’s just a boy, and he’s not your enemy. Why would you take him like this? What does it solve? Is it going to fix anything, or will it just make things harder?”

It was all about her. Dione remembered Adrienne saying something to that effect and listening to Dante as he spoke said that this was indeed true. It should have upset her to the degree that she let him go, backing away from what was happening. It should have. Unfortunately, all it did was make her wonder what made her less, why was she not good enough that it was about her? Did he not care for her as he said he did? Was it all a lie? Or perhaps it was no more than a test. A chance for her to prove that she was better. After all, didn't she love him while that other woman only seemed to spite him, spit on him, and force him to have to hurt others so that she could feel important?

Rationalization was a dangerous thing. A very, very dangerous thing.

Even as she put those thoughts together, Dione could hear what was said between James and Nico. They wanted to distract Dante, try to get to his victim (the boy's name was Zack, but it seemed unimportant in her mind), try to stop him from what he wanted to do. That simply could not be allowed. So she was going to distract them.

Her cane was still very much in hand, it was always right there and normally she didn't think of it as a weapon. However, she certainly did not think she could take on two challengers with nothing more than her bare hands. It was also true that it wasn't meant to be used as a weapon. It was a collapsible cane, one that would probably hit something and wrap around it, but she used it anyway, closing the distance quietly as if she were going to take refuge with the other two and then swinging it at their voices as hard as she could.

I have no idea if this works or not. Somebody let me know.

Dione was traveling down the same dangerous path that had brought Dante to where he was currently. Rationalization of his actions, and the world around him made him think he was above the law. That he could do anything he wanted simply because he believed he was powerful enough to do it. What could stop him when he was given the wonderful gift of lycanthropy?

The current situation might have been about Adrienne, but it did not make Dante lose sight of Dione. He noticed her there in the temple, caught her scent the moment she entered the area. Once this was all over the lycanthrope had every intention of taking both Adrienne and Dione away with him. They'd live like a true pack of wolves out in the wild. Kill whenever they needed, or wanted, with no walls to hold them in. Elysium might have been a haven, but for someone like Dante it was a prison.

Dante reeled on Dylan, and growled loudly. He let his fangs and claws grow once more, and his voice was raspy when he spoke. "My enemy is whoever I say is my enemy, and what makes you think I want to solve anything. Maybe I just want to kill him for the pure pleasure of it."

He didn't do that, of course, because Adrienne was there. Even with all his arrogance Dante couldn't be sure that Adrienne would succumb to him if she saw Zach's blood all over his hands.

Even for a vampire, breaking out of the confines of a barred cage was not easy. It left marks and bruises that needed time to heal. Hayate managed to escape from his prison, but he was a walking hazard; covered in his own blood from head to toe, his body showed signs of ruptured vessels beneath the skin and multiple battered wounds, a number of them split open and oozing fresh blood. He appeared weak, and in part he truly was, but he was saving what little of his strength he had left for the most important moment of all. He needed it for when he approached the lycanthrope that had taken Zach. A wounded foe had better chance of inching his way forward than a fully capable man, and one moment of weakness from his opponent was all that Hayate needed on his side.

He trudged past the entrance of the temple, one arm hanging limply at his side. It was broken from his constant pummeling of the bars in his cell. While his legs were not damaged, Hayate made an appearance of walking with a limp. All of the blood on his body would cover up the lie with a good enough illusion to stave off inquiries. Hayate could use masks to his benefit.

“Dante,” Hayate called out, his voice naturally gruff and deep for someone of such small stature. He tilted his head back, blood pouring slowly down his face near the left eye. His hair was matted and stained with dark red. Still, Hayate raised a single eyebrow as he limped towards the front of the temple. “I thought you were stupid,” he commented idly, “but this just takes the cake right out of my bakery.”

The distance closed slowly but surely, and no one on the sidelines seemed very interested in stopping him just yet. Hopefully, they would not dare to try it even as the next tense moments ticked by.

It was in the midst of Nico and James' planning that the vampire arrived. Nico knew who the man was when he saw him limping into the temple. He had no idea how he had gotten there since the last Nico had heard from Zach the man was still being held (unfairly) in the dungeons. But there he was walking boldly toward Danté and Zach.

But Nico's attention was pulled away by the first swat of the cane on his shoulder. The sprite was a pretty tough guy, but that didn't make the sting of the cane hurt any less.

"OW," he exclaimed out loud as he lifted his arm to shield his face. He looked at his attacker in between the swings, and found it to be a fairly good looking woman. Leave it to Nico to notice a woman's looks even in the midst of being attacked by said woman. "What the fuck!" Nico wasn't the type of guy who hit women, but he would have made an exception here if he hadn't noticed that she was blind. So he decided to tough it out. It didn't hurt that bad; it was more annoying than anything.

James wasn't as nice because he didn't observe things as fast as normal people did. Not to mention he was fail with girls and he was terrified. When he felt the sharp sting of a cane, by natural instict, he hit back hard at the source. The skin his hand came in contact with felt soft, somewhat not too manly to be slapping. When he turned and saw it was a woman he hit, he felt a whole world of guilt come over him. It got even worse when he found out she was blind. "Oh fuck." He muttered. But he didn't think the female would want his help because she was fighting for the douche bag. He felt like a giant dick, but he couldn't bring himself to help her. Maybe someday soon he would apologize, but for now it wasn't coming out of him.

"Jesus fuck! Those things hurt like hell." He turned towards Dione, still feeling guilty before he turned towards the new arrival in which he just noticed. The whole getting hit by the cane and hitting a girl got him distracted. "...Who the hell is the guy making a Bon Jovi like entrance?" The therianthrope whispered towards Nico. James thought he looked familiar, but he couldn't quite place him.

Dylan thought for a brief moment that he had overstepped his bounds. He could try to use his abilities on Dante, but who could say whether or not one of them would hurt the boy in the process? Dylan wanted the situation over with as soon and safely as possible, but there were too many outside factors to consider. He wasn’t willing to take a risk that involved harming an innocent person, even if it wasn’t a guarantee. Someone else brasher than Dylan would take the shot, but the boy could have his neck snapped or torn open in the matter of a split second once Dante realized what was going on.

The djinni didn’t reply to Dante, but he didn’t need to. He heard the voice of a familiar person . . . someone who was supposed to be locked in the dungeon. Dylan turned to see the vampire walking bloody down the aisle toward the pulpit. Toward Dante and Zach. Dylan should have thought first about why Hayate was heading towards them, or why he was covered in blood, but he flared at the sight of the vampire. “What are you doing out of your cell, Hayate?” Dylan demanded.

He'd knocked her down, one of them did anyway. Which one, she didn't really know or care, they had names. Everyone had a name at least. Unfortunately, that information didn't want to penetrate her skull at all.

If it weren't for Hayate's entrance, she might have gone after them again, but she had a strong feeling that she didn't want to move. If she moved, it might draw attention from either Hayate or Dante and somehow, perhaps a touch of good sense, that seemed like a bad thing.

Instead, she folded herself up small there on the floor.

Dione's presence was not lost upon the lycanthrope. He had kept an eye on her even though he hadn't addressed her directly, and it pleased him that she was there in the first place. It showed loyalty, the type of loyalty that Adrienne had not shown but would show in time. It was the only thing Dante needed - time.

He growled in James' direction when he had struck the medium, but he had no time to do anything when Hayate entered the temple. The appearance of the vampire was unexpected, and confusing. Dante had always believed vampires to be repelled by things holy, and there was nothing holier than being on hallowed ground. But the vampire was in the temple walking forward with much difficulty. Perhaps the power of the building was slowing him down.

"This isn't stupidity," he said with pride. "But breaking out of jail is. Did you really think you showing up here would help anything? You look like you can barely stand!" He let out a haughty laugh, and threw his head back in the process. "You're a fool, Hayate," he said. "And you'll just be another witness to Zach's demise."

Hayate kept trudging forward, the slightest of smiles appearing on his face. He ignored everyone around him — everyone but Dante. “*No, it’s not,” Hayate called out quietly, focusing all of his energy on Dante. His power was much different from that of a siren; it made people trust him, believe him. It did not inspire love nor like. It inspired a simple peace to put them at ease, to allow him to get closer when they might put up their guard. He used this magic on Dante as he spoke to the lycanthrope. It would let him get closer than any other person.

“I don’t need to stand that badly. I just need to come closer, and you’ll see . . . it’s all right,” Hayate said, only a few feet away now. It turned into three feet, and then it became two. “I just want to talk, Dante.” The vampire did not stop until he was right in front of Dante’s face. “Like this.”

Hayate moved so swiftly that it was hard to tell what happened next, but his arm shot out and sliced something across Dante’s neck. A gleam of silver caught the light before the vampire grasped Zach in his arms and pulled the boy away from harm as fast as possible. He left it open for the djinni to take down the lycanthrope. The cut delivered to Dante was not deep enough to kill, only enough to wound badly.

If Dylan reacted fast enough, they would not have to worry about anyone else getting hurt.

** Italics indicate he is using his magic while speaking.

Nico was laughing when James hit the girl, but he reigned it in quickly when his conscience got the better of him. As funny as James' reaction was it made the sprite feel guilty all the same. One, the girl was just a girl; and two, she was blind. For all he knew she was trying to defend herself since she couldn't readily see what was going on. Nico cleared his throat, and shrugged one shoulder at James before he knelt down next to the girl. "Hey, are you okay?" All he needed was a positive answer from the girl to make his guilt go away.

He stood back up just in time to see Hayate limping forward toward Danté. He furrowed his brow, and then leaned in toward James. "What the fuck is he-" the sprite began to say before the vampire charged forward so swiftly that the only thing that Nico was able to catch was glint of a blade, and a flash of red coming from the werewolf's neck.

"Holy fuck, what the hell was that!" Nico saw Zach in Hayate's arms, and instinctively he moved forward pulling James with him. "We gotta help!" The injury that Hayate caused the lycanthrope was the opening they needed to get close to Zach, and maybe put an end to the entire ordeal.

Dylan took his moment to use his powers on Dante, throwing out his arms and creating a massive wave of water to consume the wounded werewolf. The wave shaped itself into a large, ever-moving ball of water and remained full long enough for Dylan to feel secure about entrapping the dangerous man, long enough to hurt but not kill. He dropped the magical creation to the floor a moment later, water splashing over everyone and everything but leaving Dante defenseless on the ground and choking.

Dylan called the guards to his side to help him with taking the werewolf into custody. Together, they lifted him up and removed him from the temple. Dylan ordered for other guards to take the wounded to the medical pavilion, asking civilians to help where they could, and he ordered for guards to take Hayate there and keep an eye on him as well. Despite the man’s heroic attempt at saving someone’s life, Dylan was furious with the vampire for his escape. They did not need his help in order to solve this problem, but it seemed as if the vampire could not help himself. They would deal with him later once they locked Dante behind bars in the dungeon.

His first concern was the raving werewolf and his rampage across town. Once they had that situation under control, the escaped convict would be next on his list.
