Who: Chris and Scarlet
When: 3 PM
Where: Town Hall Archives
What: Chris comes in for questioning

...you must be questioned in regards to what you know about Hayate...

It all sounded so foreboding to Chris, but despite that she found herself agreeing to Scarlet's request. The young girl had never been officially questioned before, but she assumed that it would be no different from when her parents questioned her about something she and Charlie did when they got into trouble. Those times weren't that bad, though they did make her tummy twist up in knots.

Chris felt those knots forming once again as she climbed the steps into the building. She took a deep breath, and calmed her nerves. There was no reason to be nervous, or scared since she wasn't in trouble. No, the only person in trouble here was Hayate, and he was completely innocent! It was enough to make her grind her teeth, but she thought that maybe this meeting with Scarlet would be able to help clear Hayate's name.

The front desk gave her directions to the archive room, and Chris made her way to the library-like area. She knocked softly, and then pushed open the door. "Hello?" Her voice echoed a little, but not enough to make it scary. "Ms. Scarlet? It's Chris Jung. Are you here?" She stepped into the archive room, and looked around for any sign of another person.

Scarlet wasn't going to blow it. She just wasn't. She cared too much about proving that this was a wise choice. But maybe deep down inside she always cared about making sure Chris was alright. She may have seemed like a woman who was always down to business and perhaps cold hearted, but she wanted this to go down smoothly. She didn't want to have the girl upset and feeling trapped by a Council member.

While she waited for Chris, she went over evidence and tapped her fingers nervously on the table. She didn't want to be the enemy, she just wanted answers and she wanted the vampire put to justice. Some of the things she read about him disturbed her very much so.

When Scarlet heard Chris come in, she gave a careful and friendly smile. Nothing damned the start of this all with the sight of her teeth. "Hello Ms. Jung. Please, do sit down." She had the Elves make sure there was hot chocolate from the cafe, fresh made and still hot. "Please, feel free to help yourself." She had the guard set a big pot and a cup down in front of Charlie before she had the guard leave so it was just the two ladies.

"Chris." She began slowly. "I know you are a big girl. I'm not going to run around in circles treating you like a child. I just want to know what you know. Think of it this way. The sooner you tell me what you know, the faster this will blow over and you can be with your...friend." It wasn't easy to tell at all, but it was hard for her to imagine Hayate as a friend. But to each their own.

There was nothing like hot cocoa to put a girl at ease, and Chris eagerly agreed to a cup. She smiled at Scarlet before she took a sip, the warm liquid soothing her nervous stomach. "Thank you," she said after she put the cup down. This Scarlet person seemed really nice, and now that Chris thought about it this was a person she voted for. Though she didn't know anything about the woman she did think she had a very cool name.

Scarlet might have had a file to read about Hayate, but she didn't have the experience of actually knowing the man. Chris knew him better than most people, and she did not believe for one minute that he did the things that they had claimed. Chris was determined to make at least one person on the Vice-Council believe that, and she wasn't going to ruin it.

"Well I'll tell you whatever you want to know," Chris said with a nod. "Like you said, I just want everything to blow over, y'know?" She took another sip of the hot cocoa, and let out a content sigh. It really was good.

"Well, what is your relationship with Hayate?" She set her hands in her lap. She was trying her best to seem as friendly as possible. She wasn't the bad guy. She was out to seek the truth, to find justice and to have it all over with. The lawyer in the sanctuary was good. He would take care of this. "Are you guys friends, best friends?" Her gaze turned to a more understanding one. She had liked someone before whom she would have done anything to keep. "Boyfriend and girlfriend?"

Scarlet brushed a stray strand of hair away from her face and tilted her head. "Chris, I know what it's like to want to protect someone, even a crush. But, there are times when you have to break that protection in order to reveal things that are of importance. Especially if you know Hayate did something wrong. He is accused of doing horrible things. Torturing a female therianthrope, killing two faes. I'm not painting him as a monster." Though she truly wasn't sure what she thought. "I don't have a close relationship with him. But I care about the lives of the people he hurt. You have to think about how selfish it is of you to withhold valuable information that is helpful to the dead and to that female that was tortured."

She made sure her gaze remained soft. "I'm not calling you a criminal for liking Hayate. I'm not calling you a criminal in general. I just want to know what you know. You're fortunate. You get to see a side that we don't see. He actually speaks to you."

Scarlet didn't beat around the bush, and Chris was a little taken aback by the questions that were tossed in her direction. The young girl wasn't a natural liar, and she didn't think she would have to lie here with the exception of the boyfriend/girlfriend question. That was something that she was sure no adult, no matter how understanding they seemed to be, would understand. Chris remained calm throughout the questions, and she waited until Scarlet was completely done before she made an attempt to answer.

"Wow," she said with a small laugh. "That's a lot to process." She scooted her chair closer to the table, and held the cup of cocoa in her small hands. She seemed very childlike then, but Chris was far from it. "Okay so your question, he's like my best friend. We're always together," she answered almost truthfully. "He's made it a lot easier to be here without my parents around." That part was true. Hayate made Chris feel normal again even if their relationship was far from it.

The young girl shook her head, and sighed. "He's being accused of those things, but I know he didn't do them," she said with stout resolve. "I care about the people here, too, but it's not helping anyone keeping Hayate in jail when he's not the one who did those things." Chris shrugged her shoulders at Scarlet. The lady was nice, but she didn't have all her facts straight, the first and most important being that Hayate was innocent.

"I don't know who hurt those people, and I wish those things didn't even happen," Chris said sadly. "But just because Hayate's a vampire didn't mean that he's the one who did it. It's wrong treating him like a criminal just because he happens to have fangs, and has to drink blood. That doesn't make him an automatically bad person. That's like... that's like what Hitler did with the Jewish people. He killed them because they were different, because he thought different was bad."

Chris honestly believed that Hayate was innocent, and in her eyes the vampire could do no wrong.

Scarlet bit her lip and looked down with an obvious sign of embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to charge at you with all those questions. Believe me, I know this must be hard on you." She slid her hands on the table while she listened to Chris talk about Hayate. She was very fond of him and Scarlet just had to assume the girl could get the best out of people. It somewhat made her feel a sense of guilt to have to continue to talk after Chris had mentioned that Hayate aided her in feeling better about her parents not being around.

The Dhamphir didn't want to counter attack what she said about knowing Hayate was innocent, but she had to. "We have..people with abilities who identified Hayate as the culprit in a very serious crime. Their abilities are very reliable. Then, there is a girl who was brutally attacked and she lived to be able to identify Hayate...Chris that's pretty damning. I don't think people would point the finger at Hayate just to put everyone at ease."

When Chris spoke passionately about Hayate and the way he was treated, Scarlet simply smiled. "I guess Hayate and I would both be killed then if we were accused of being different." She smiled now enough to reveal her sharp canine teeth as she gave a small chuckle. "Believe me. I know what it is like to be accused of things or speculated about just because of how I look. This isn't what this is about."

While emotions normally got the better of Chris she was able to stay calm in this situation. She didn't like the supposed facts that Scarlet was presenting to her, but she supposed that it was the woman's job to do that. Chris simply shook her head at Scarlet; she obviously didn't believe her.

"You wanna know something that I've never told anyone, not even my brother?" Chris leaned forward, her arms folded on the table. "Last September I," the girl paused a little, and swallowed the lump in her throat. It was a little hard talking about what had happened to her back then, but she thought it would prove a point. "I was taken while I was on my way to town." She took a deep breath, and began to wring her hands to stop them from shaking. "Someone took me, and kept me for a couple of days in a shack in the woods. And do you know who saved me? Hayate. He saved me from whoever took me." Though Chris had been released from her captivity in the girl's mind it was Hayate who had saved her from those two wretched days.

"When I'm with him, I'm safe. He protects me. There's no way he did the things these people are saying he did because he's not a monster. I just don't believe it," she said with a shrug. Chris knew Hayate was capable of violence, but that didn't change her feelings for the vampire, or the fact that she really did feel safe with him. "I'm sorry, but I know Hayate, and I so know he didn't do the things you're saying." Chris sighed sadly; she just couldn't believe that people would so easily believe one side, and not another.

"You asked me to come here to tell you about Hayate, and here I am. But then I tell you, and you don't believe me. That sorta sucks, y'know? I mean... how come you believe other people, but not me?"

Scarlet was secretly shocked and somewhat moved by the story Chris had just presented to her. While the somewhat business woman in her wanted to ask if she talked to any of the council members about what happened, if she was okay-things of that matter, the other side of her was speechless for a short period of time. The silence made her feel certain that this wasn't a good idea. Leon was better for this. She was going to punch him the next time she saw him. Night meetings were a bad idea. She wasn't good at all with girl talk.

"Chris, that's incredible that he saved you. That was very brave of him. I've been thinking that you probably bring the best out of him which many others aren't fortune enough to see. That's the thing. You see, we have seen things that go against Hayate. A hurt female for example who is a hundred percent sure that Hayate is the culprit is not very good for his defense. However, I have not been able to see this kind Hayate that makes you feel safe. If I did, if I could see that he isn't what people have reported then I would have regrets for having him where he was. That's my honest opinion. I'm not here to say you're lying, or to be the bad guy."

She didn't want to say the girl was naive which could also be a playing factor, but it was in the back of Scarlet's mind.

Had anyone told Chris this meeting was supposed to be a "girl talk" session she would have laughed. This was the furthest thing from girl talk there ever was. There was no giggling over crushes, or talk over latest fashion. No making plans for a sleep over, or a night out to the movies. The only thing that made this girl talk was the fact that both she and Scarlet were females. Chris didn't resent Scarlet at all for the meeting, and she was even glad that she had the chance to meet the Vice-Council member, but she just couldn't see the point of the meeting any more when it was obvious that everyone was certain of Hayate's guilt.

Despite Chris's age, and her bubbly personality the girl was actually smart. Having parents that were both scientists influenced Chris in indirect ways; she might not have been interested in genetics like her parents, but she was logical when she needed to be. And she definitely needed it now more than ever.

"But that's the problem isn't it? You really haven't seen anything with your own eyes. You're only going by what that girl said, but you didn't see Hayate do those things. Like how you said you haven't seen him do good things I told you about. But because she's a hundred percent sure that he did it, she has to be right, right? But if I'm a hundred percent sure that he didn't do it, and that he's not that kind of person, I'm wrong." Chris sighed, and her eyes grew moist with the threat of tears.

"Why do people always want to believe that a person is capable of doing really bad things before they believe they can do really good things? I told you I was taken, and that Hayate saved me because that's all that was clear to me. I couldn't tell you anything about who took me though. I was too scared. So can you really really be sure that this girl saw Hayate, especially if she was beaten up as bad as the rumors say she was?"

Chris wiped the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand. Her heart was breaking because no one wanted to believe that Hayate was good. No one believed that he didn't do the things that he was accused of doing. She had wanted to help him, and this was her chance, but she felt utterly useless. Again. Chris let out a sigh.

All that kept running through Scarlet's mind was that this was a bad idea after she listened to Chris. She wasn't trained in dealing with people who were going to be told information that wasn't exactly heart warming. She was a persistent person trained in the leadership field. For some reason, she agreed to two men thinking that having female body parts would somehow make a connection and Scarlet just believed she was making an already hard situation worse than it already was. She couldn't tell Chris about the other female. In fact she feared the day the two ever encountered each other.

"-I-maybe that's enough for today." Scarlet set her hands in her lap and bit her lip. She somewhat felt like she was torturing the poor young girl. Pushing thoughts into her mind that were painful to hear. She was being told someone that she was fond of, someone maybe she almost loved was a man of questionable morals. When in Chris' eyes Scarlet believed he was almost everything to the girl. She should have known better and have kept pushing Chris, but she gave the girl the option of being able to leave.

Chris looked at Scarlet from the top of her eyes. That was all the questions she was going to be asked? She only just arrived in the archive room not too long ago, and now it was already over. Chris wasn't sure if she could take that as something good, or bad. She let out another sigh, and pushed her chair away from the table.

"You know, I don't even know why you guys asked me here. You've already made up your mind about Hayate. You all think he's guilty, and you were just looking for more things to pin on him." Chris stepped away from the table. The look on her face said she was angry, and she pushed the chair under the table roughly. "Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Or is it guilty until proven innocent in this place? Whatever it is, it sucks." Chris let out a huff in frustration, and left the room.
