Who: Chris, Charlie, and Riley
When: Evening
Where: Their bungalow
What: Fixing up Chris's injuries

"Ow!"

Chris's voice echoed through the bungalow even though they were in their room. "You've got to put that stuff on gently," she said with emphasis. "Not beat it into my skin, you dork." Chris was wincing in preparation for Charlie to apply more balm to her back. It was still bruised from her collision with the wall, but her injuries were not severe enough to warrant the use of a healer. Instead they gave her some salve to apply twice a day to her bruised muscles, and she'd be healed in no time. Her head, however, was another story entirely.

She had to get stitches for the laceration on her scalp. Stitches meant clearing the particular area of hair, and that meant that Chris currently had a "bald" spot. It made the girl terribly self-conscious, and she made sure that she never left the house without a hat on her head. At least the people at the pavilion were nice enough to give her a potion to help her hair grow faster. Hopefully it would work as quickly as they claimed it would otherwise Chris's self-image would suffer the consequences.

"Charlie," she squealed.

"If you stopped squirming it would be easier!" Charlie was trying to be as gentle as he could, and he thought he was gentle, but apparently his sister was just extra sensitive. "Okay, I'm going to rub it in again... ready?"

Chris squinted her eyes, and braced herself. This was going to be a long night.

After hearing about what happened to Chris and having her home, Riley was having trouble sleeping. Though she was home and appeared to be better, Riley worried about perhaps silly things such as her stitches coming out, or maybe she had some injuries that weren't looked at enough. She really was turning into a mamma puma. She just couldn't help it.

Riley was preparing some food for the two and that's when she heard Chris squeal causing her to trot towards the twins room. She knocked, then rushed in seconds later. "Is everything okay?" It didn't take long for her to guess that it might involve Charlie trying to help Chris. She knew the boy had the best of intentions, but Riley moved towards the bed. "Charlie. You got to do it like this."

She didn't want Charlie to feel like he was doing a crappy job taking care of his sister, because he wasn't. In fact, she believed he was doing great. He really wanted to help her. But girls were much more sensitive than guys at times.

So, she applied more of the balm on Charlie's fingers and slowly and very gently helped him apply the balm on Chris' bruises. "See? Almost like you're barely touching the bruises at all."

Riley really was turning into a more motherly figure to the twins much to their liking. It was nice feeling as if they were part of a family again especially since the fate of their parents was still in question. Though the twins didn't want to believe that something terrible had happened to them they had to come to terms with the possibility of never seeing them again. Most people had lost their families because of the virus and the war, and the odds that their parents were alive were one in a million. The hope was there, but the statistics of survival tarnished that hope a bit.

Charlie looked over his shoulder when Riley burst into the room. He managed a weak smile while Chris smiled a little sheepishly. He was afraid Chris's outbursts would get the woman's attention, and he didn't want to bother her when she was trying to cook some food. But she was there with them, and Charlie had to admit that he felt some relief.

"Chris is being a baby," he said jokingly. Chris stuck her tongue out at him, and laughed.

"Maybe if you weren't so rough I wouldn't be crying so much," she retorted with a laugh.

Charlie let Riley teach him how to apply the balm to Chris's bruises. He soon realized that he was pressing down too hard, and unlike other medicines it didn't have to be completely absorbed in order to work its magic. Chris let out a content sigh, and Charlie smiled brightly at Riley. "Thanks," he said as he continued to move his fingers in a slow circles on his sister's bruises.

Seeing her injuries though only made Charlie more angry about what happened. If he ever saw that guy he'd give him a piece of his mind, and maybe a good punch or two. He was getting better with boxing thanks to Riley, and he felt that he could stand up for his sister against anyone who hurt her. He sighed a little, and finished applying the ointment. "If I ever see the guy who did this..." he said through clenched teeth.

Chris turned around, and patted her brother's knee. "Don't worry," she said looking at him and at Riley. "I'm sure Mr. Dylan will take care of it." She truly believed that he would, but that didn't mean she wasn't upset over her injury. She would have rather not have been hurt at all, but she was. And it sucked.

Riley couldn't help but be worried, yet entertained at the same time. While she didn't want Charlie to go out and hunt down the person who hurt Chris, she was starting to hear a hint of herself in the boy. She liked that. But if he started cursing, then that meant she was having a bad influence and that was the last thing she wanted. "Charlie, you and me both can have a go at him. He doesn't deserve to be walking around after what he did." She sighed and kept an eye out for Chris, making sure she wasn't showing any signs of pain. "Did you guys get a good look at him? Is there anything being done about what he did? Was he even caught and at least reasonably punished before I kick his as-butt?" Yes she knew she went into overdrive, but she couldn't help it.

She knew the Council was good at taking care of matters, but it still felt unfair that she couldn't go talk to this man herself and tell him that if he ever hurt Chris again, she was going to hurt him three folds. "I know he will. I just hope he does enough." The therianthrope said with a long sigh.

"Why was he in the same place as you anyway?" Riley didn't know all of the facts, she just knew Chris was visiting Hayate. That man was turning out to be loads of trouble. She was with that man the day he was taken away and now she was hurt when he was around. She dismissed the thought that maybe this Hayate was trouble. Chris knew better, didn't she?

Chris thought it was sweet that both Riley and her brother were angry on her behalf. It made her feel loved, and protected, and she liked feeling that way. But she didn't want them to worry themselves over the issue. Mr. Dylan knew about the problem, and he always followed through when it came to important things like this.

"What a jerk," Charlie said. His own anger was fueled by Riley's determination to get revenge as well. "Oh yeah, I got a real good look at him. Tall. Dark hair. His arm turned into a vine-"

"And he was attacking Hayate with it," Chris had said, essentially finishing Charlie's sentence. "I tried to stop him from hurting Hayate," Chris added.

"And that's when he swung at her with his arm, and knocked her into the wall." The twins sometimes had a tendency to finish off one another's sentences. It was what they liked to call a "twin" thing, and it never bothered them when they did it with each other. In fact, it was something that brought a smile to each of their faces.

"I don't know a lot about the law," Chris started to say. "But I'm pretty sure people aren't allowed to go to the dungeon to try to hurt people, and I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to attack other people who just happen to be nearby, either." Chris pulled away from Charlie once he was done applying the balm, and pushed her shirt back down over her middle. She turned around on her bed, and sat cross-legged on the mattress. She smiled at her brother, and Riley, and then shrugged her shoulders. "He was terrible," Chris said.

Charlie nodded. "He was. He didn't even stop to see if Chris was all right. He just turned into dirt, and disappeared. Hayate even tried to stop him, but he just... disintegrated."

"His arm turned into a vine?" Well, she knew from then on in that for one, he wasn't a human and two, she would have loved to cut one of those vines whatever just to see if it hurt. Served the asshole right. She was glad she had the motivation to keep these thoughts to herself. She wouldn't have wanted to let herself go crazy potty mouth and vengeance monster.

The therianthrope thought it was awfully cute that the two finished each others sentences. She always knew they were close, but this truly finished the thought of them being close off for her. "You're right." Riley began, adjusting herself a little bit on the bed. "I'm not all that well with the law either, but I'm sure he knows and the council knows that what he did was wrong. If he doesn't know what he did..then well he's an awful person." Riley stated sternly.

It made her mad that the culprit just disappeared. "Are you serious?" She almost growled. "Well, he is dirt, that's why. You should have stomped on him if you could have." Not that she would condoling violence or anything. "He better apologize. If you point him out to me, I'll somehow...magically get him to apologize."

Yeah, she knew that if some guy could turn into dirt and do some cool viney thing, he would be a challenge for the short fighter. But even so, she would try her damn hardest.

How awesome was it that they had Riley to back them up? The therianthrope was like a mom, dad, and big sister all rolled into one. She was someone the twins could turn to when they were sad, and needed some comfort, but she was also the person who would stand up for them when they were in trouble. The big brother (or big sister in this case) who came to defend their little brother and sister when they got picked on.

Chris smiled at Riley and her brother. Now she had three people taking care of her, and Chris felt like the luckiest girl in the world. "Maybe Mr. Dylan can tell you who it is," Chris said.

Charlie nodded. "You're a grown-up so he'd have to talk with you. Then you can come home, and tell me then you'n'me can go out and kick some butt!" Charlie pounded his right fist into his left palm, and even cracked his knuckles. Chris raised her eyebrows at her brother a little surprised at the tenacity he was showing. She laughed lightly, and pushed Charlie against his shoulder. She didn't say anything, but it was easy to see that she appreciated what Charlie did for her.

Chris sighed, and scooted onto the bed a little more. "I don't know if I want to see that guy again to even get a sorry out of him. I mean, what if he like hits me again? What if he hurts you guys? I don't want that to happen."

I am so sorry ;_;

"That's a good idea. I'm sure Dylan will understand that I am concerned." Of course it was more like she was epically pissed off, but she had to come across as very civil and calm. If she didn't, well then there went her chance of ever getting to meet his guy. Grown up or not, if she gave the man a bad vibe, she wouldn't get the information she needed. She needed to play it cool, play it professional. Just a few deep breaths and a sweet little smile should do it for her.

Riley chuckled at how Charlie reacted to what they could do once they knew more information about the man who hurt Chris. "You know. That doesn't sound like a bad idea! We can pull a fast one too! Kind of like ninjas who are issuing a quick warning to watch out who messes with Chris!" She had two protectors for Chris. One was her twin brother and the other was a very protective puma shifter. Hey, there needed to be people who looked out for each other in the sanctuary.

Riley moved closer to Chris and set a hand on her lap. "I won't ever let him hurt you again. I won't let anyone hurt you again." She was so mad that she even let this happen to Chris, but she had to move forward. "If anyone, especially him even dares to come too close to you again? They'll be on the ground before they know it."

Watching Charlie and Riley both making plans on how to protect her made Chris smile. She laughed at the ninja metaphor, and began to imagine what it would look like if her protectors were ninjas. It began with Charlie and Riley dressed in the typical black outfits with nothing but their eyes showing, and then it turned into their respective therianthrope forms dressed in the ninja outfits. Needless to say it was quite amusing, and it caused her to let out a small giggle.

She looked down at Riley's hand on her lap, and then looked the woman in the eyes. Chris could tell that Riley meant what she said, and it made the young girl feel all warm and tingly inside. She leaned forward, and placed her arms around Riley's neck. "Thank you," she said as tears began to well up in her eyes. "You know, for everything." She pulled back, and gave her brother a hug, too. "You too, dork." She kissed his cheek quickly, and then punched his arm playfully.
