Who: Chris and Riley
When: A short time after this
Where: Chris, Charlie, and Riley's bungalow
What: Chris goes home after the incident, and needs some comfort

Chris never felt as helpless as she did in those moments that Hayate was being taken away. If she had a power she'd be able to fight back, do something. Instead, all she could do was cry, and tell on those mean Elven guards to one of the Head Council members. Hopefully they would get into trouble for being huge jerks!

She had headed towards home in a full out run, but ended up slowing to a walk when she was still a mile away. Chris dragged her feet the rest of the way, kicking small rocks from her path while feeling absolutely disgusted with herself. She was still crying, too, and everything looked blurry through her tears.

"You'll bump into something if you can't see," her dad used to say when she ran off crying. He'd pull out his handkerchief then, and use a corner to dry her eyes. Her mom would tell her that crying was cathartic, but too much crying would give her a headache. She always found a way to make Chris smile. The young girl wished that her parents were there now, and the thought only made her even more upset.

She opened the door to the bungalow, and barely closed it behind her as she walked inside. Her eyes were cast to the ground so she didn't even notice Riley standing in front of her. She bumped into the therianthrope, and looked up with forlorn eyes before she threw her arms around the woman's waist. There were a few things that the young girl needed in her life, and at that moment she needed a hug more than anything else.

Riley used to not really care about what kids thought about her. I mean, hell. She beat up people for a living. Some people might object to that "I don't give a damn" belief in her mind since she was short and when she boxed back home she was always trying to prove that just because she was short, it didn't mean she couldn't whoop someone's ass. She was more diligent than others. She was maybe too aggressive and of course she didn't "do" catty with the other girls. She just got straight to letting her nails show to prove she wasn't going to be pushed around.

But now she was very cautious with how she presented herself when around the kids. Her words were clear of her vulgar language and she only smoked when they weren't around. It was hilarious to watch too since she would heave half of her body out the window to blow the smoke outdoors so the twins wouldn't have to smell it. She smoked less so she could run faster with Charlie. Hell, the magic supply shop had things to help her with quitting! Who the hell knew?

She didn't see Chris as much, but she still felt a sense of protection of her. Charlie cared a lot about her and that seemed to transfer into her.

She currently was smoking near a window when she heard something and she quickly tossed the cigarette out. It only took a moment to rub hand sanitizer on her hands and luckily she didn't reek of smoke. Riley tilted her head curiously when she didn't see anyone around.

But then she suddenly ran into Chris who gave her an expression that could near break her heart. When the young girl wrapped her arms around the Therianthrope's waist, she hugged the girl gently and guided her to the couch.

"Hunnie." She began softly. "What's wrong?"

The warmth of Riley's arms were exactly what Chris needed in that moment. She sniffled into the woman's shirt, and allowed herself to be led to the couch. She started to cry harder again, and the heavy heaves of her chest made it hard to talk right away. Chris was so glad for Riley in that moment, and she instantly regretted not having spent more time with the woman. She should have; after all, she was nice enough to take her and Charlie in when they left their old house.

Chris didn't know how much time passed before her crying died down enough for her to attempt to talk. She didn't let go of Riley though, and it might have been hard to understand her mumble of words.

"TheElvenGuardscametoHayate'shouseandtookhimawayandtheyweresomeantomeandtheymade mecryandIdon'tevenknowwhytheytookhimawaybuthe'smyfriendandIwanthimback.*"

It all came out in what was probably one breath since the girl was left heaving a little bit afterward. She was sobbing hard, and her tears were leaving a wet stain on Riley's shirt. Chris barely noticed the smell on smoke on the woman's clothing, too. Not that it would really bother her since Hayate smoked on occasion, and she had gotten used to the smell on him.

* translation: The Elven Guards came to Hayate's house and took him away and they were so mean to me and they made me cry and I don't even know why they took him away but he's my friend and I want him back.

Riley gave a heavy sigh. A boy? The girl was seeing a boy and she had no clue about it? Focus Riley, you can ask the girl about it later.. She felt so ignorant for a moment but shoved the feeling away and turned her attention back to Chris. It didn't bother her at all that the young girls tears were on her shirt. In fact, it was oddly comforting because it meant she felt okay letting it out with Riley.

Running a hand through Chris' hair and gave her a calming "shh" sort of whisper. "It will be alright. I am sure there is just some sort of miscommunication. Or maybe he just needs to answer some questions. If he cooperates, I am sure he will be out in no time sweetie."

She was curious but tried not to pry. "...what kind of friend is Hayate? We can try and see him if you would like. I'm sure the Elven Guards would at least be willing to hear you out. They shouldn't have taken him away in front of you." The last part of her statement had a bit of anger tied to it. It must not have been a pleasant sight for Chris. Though Riley was a little concerned about Chris being at a boys house without her knowing it, she was more concerned about getting Chris to feel better.

There were a lot of things Chris hadn't told her own twin, let alone Riley. She didn't do it to be mean, or because she didn't love the two of them; it was a simple matter of thinking they wouldn't understand. Charlie knew about Hayate, but he didn't know about the things she did with the vampire. Did it really matter in the grand scheme of things? Chris didn't think so.

Chris's chest shook with her sobs, and she buried herself deeper into Riley's shirt. It really wasn't fair that the Elven guards took Hayate away from her especially since he made her so happy. She swallowed back her tears when Riley asked her question. She wanted to answer her, or try to at least. She pulled back away from the therianthrope, and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand.

"Hayate's my best friend," she said even though he was so much more. Chris wasn't sure how Riley would react to the word 'boyfriend' so she didn't say that. Not many people would accept their relationship for their age, or because it was a vampire and a human. No, her relationship with Hayate was a secret, a secret kept not out of shame, but because she didn't want to share it with anyone. It was special because it involved just the two of them.

"And we were hanging out, and they came and took him away." She sniffled, and then nodded at Riley. "I'd like to go visit him," she said. "You could meet him, and that would be cool, don't you think?" She was so hopeful in that moment. She hadn't considered that she could visit Hayate, but now that the idea was in her head she couldn't let it go. She was already planning a visit, and hopefully it would happen very soon.

Riley felt anger built up inside of her when she realized Chris' best friend was taken away from her. She already didn't believe it was a wise choice to take Hayate away while Chris was present. But now that Riley was informed that they were best friends, it was a whole new type of anger. Though Riley was small, she would have tried to kick some Elven ass if she was around them. Seeing Chris so upset about having a friend taken away felt personal. Riley knew it was silly since Chris and her weren't like mother and daughter close, but she couldn't help it.

"Best friend? And they took him away from you? Is there anyway you and I can get him out? I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding." Riley knew nothing of Hayate. She heard nothing good or bad. However, if Chris was close to him, she saw Hayate as harmless.

"I would allow it for you to visit him. But I don't think you should see him alone. The dungeon is a very dangerous place." When she thought of the dungeon, she thought o some old fashioned dark and creepy facility.

"They were so mean," Chris said with a definite pout on her lips. She didn't like the way the guards had treated Hayate, and she definitely didn't like the way they had treated her. She hadn't told Riley that part yet, but she was going to. There was something oddly comforting about the act of "telling" on the guards to Riley. Knowing that someone was willing to protect you, and to get angry on your behalf made the girl feel special. It was a motherly gesture on Riley's behalf, and Chris didn't mind it one bit. But besides that this was something very important to Chris, and she felt that Riley could help her with it.

"And... and on top of that," she said in between her sniffles. "They totally picked me up, and moved me out of the way like... like... like I was furniture or something! They could have been nice about it, but nooooooo... they were jerks!" She reached for a tissue, and blew her nose in it. She wiped her cheeks afterward, and then sighed a little.

"I'd like to visit him. Like maybe sometime, if you can't go, Charlie could go with me. That way I'm not alone." She reached for another tissue, and wiped her eyes this time. She sniffled a bit, and then looked at Riley. Chris was really grateful, and happy that she was living with Riley. She was nice, and Chris did like her quite a bit. And it meant so much to her that Riley allowed her to be a baby with all of her crying. She really couldn't do that very much with very many adults.

Riley turned away to hide a slight smile on her face. She couldn't help but admire how Chris said so mean. It wasn't kiddish, it was said like an angered teenager and the pout on her lips made it super cute. She really was fond of this Hayate guy and she questioned if she had some sort of super duper crush on him. But she knew now was not the time to ask her to spill the beans on some potential juicy personal talk. Maybe later when she was feeling better and was allowed to visit this man, or boy that was causing Chris to be so upset.

The therianthrope felt awful, but she laughed when Chris explained she was treated like furniture. "What assholes!" She coughed. "Uhm, I mean." She began to correct. "What jerks as you said. That was incredible over..uhm elvish of them?" She stated with a laugh. "I guess when they get super into the moment of wanting to catch someone they believe is evil, they turn into human furniture movers."

Riley couldn't help but cave into Chris' want to visit Hayate. She was really upset and she felt like she had no right to say no. "You can go. But please be careful. The dungeon sounds like a scary place. Make sure Charlie is with you at all times." Riley guessed she wanted Chris to feel like an adult. Plus, maybe it would make Chris feel uncomfortable if she had Riley near her. If she had a crush on this guy, her around hearing some personal stuff might not help.

Riley's curse word blunder evoked a giggle, and a smile from the girl. Her parents did the same thing at times though most of their cursing was in German rather than English. They had tried to refrain from such language around them, but that didn't stop them from hearing it at school. Chris knew about all the curse words, and so did Charlie. Charlie, unlike Chris, used them whenever he was around his friends. It was a guy thing, or something, since Chris didn't use them at all. Maybe she was a little childish, but she didn't think curse words sounded very nice, and she thought she sounded funny when she said them.

"I don't know, I just know that these elves were really mean. Other elves are nice though. Miss Theora is nice, and she's an elf." Chris sighed, and continued wiping her cheek though it was already dry. She sighed again, a little deeper this time, and smiled at Riley. Chris felt a lot better after her little break down, and she was glad that Riley had been there for her. It had been a long time since she needed the embrace of an adult; no, not just an adult, but from someone who was a parent. Not that Riley was her mother, but she took care of herself and Charlie, and that meant a lot to the girl. It wasn't easy being a teenager, but it was tolerable when there was someone around who cared.

"Thank you," she said with a shy smile. "For..." Chris's voice trailed off, and she blushed. "You know, for listening and stuff." She hugged Riley tightly, and for a moment she seemed much younger than her fourteen years especially with the way she snuggled into the woman.
