Who: Zach & Irei
When: Evening
Where: The Wine Bar
What: Zach is looking for a necromancer, and someone told him he'd find one here.

Despite all of the other issues going on in his life, an idea struck Zach a couple of days ago out of the blue. He always thought about his brother, even if he didn’t talk about him out loud anymore. Zach talked to people about him in the beginning, but eventually the conversations with others stopped serving a purpose and only caused him to dwell in ‘what ifs’ and ‘could have beens.’ It was then that Zach tried to let the memories go, burying them under the surface where no one else but him could see them. Still, they persisted on and on.

The unanswered questions in Zach’s mind were too much to bear sometimes, and he wanted to find closure for himself — and for his family. There were people who could talk to the dead, to spirits, and Zach could ask one of them to find his brother. They could speak with him again and find out the truth; they could finally rest at night knowing Jared knew what they knew, and even Jared could find peace in whatever place his spirit laid beyond the grave.

Zach pushed past the doors of the wine bar, glancing around slowly at the unfamiliar landscape inside. He was told he could find the necromancer here, someone who could call his brother forward again. He didn’t have a name. He only had the occupation, assuming ‘necromancer’ was an occupation. Not knowing where else to go, Zach approached the bar and sat down at one of the stools until someone came to serve him.

“Hey,” Zach said to the bartender. “I’m not looking for a drink. I’m just looking for a necromancer. Do you know where I can find one?”

Irei sat at the bar much like he usually did nursing a winter time cocktail called a hot toddy. Anything he could get to warm him up during the colder period of the year was nothing short of a miracle to him. He swirled the drink with his cinnamon stick and watched the lemon spin around in the warm amber liquid. He had borrowed one of Sascha's thicker jackets that was a contrast to his normal more fashion oriented clothing so that he could make it out to the wine bar with out freezing to death.

He picked up the drink and took a sip when he glanced down the bar noticing a familiar face at the bar. His first thought was Hayate, but despite the influence of glamor, Hayate was never really able to look that young. There was something in the eyes that was different from the vampire in this young man and apparently he was looking for a necromancer. He hadn't seen Zach in a long while.

Unlike most patrons to the bar, Irei kept most of his private issues to himself rather than divulging on the normally preoccupied bartenders. He slipped from his seat and just pushed the drink along the bar as he made his way toward the kid. He fully approached once the bartender moved on to help an actual customer, and Irei leaned forward toward Zach. "Well look who it is. You don't plan to get completely inebriated again do you?"

Irei pulled out a cigarette and placed the paper wrapped stick in between his lips. He knocked his Zippo out of his cigarette pack and lit up, taking in the smoky nicotine. "Why are you looking for a necromancer if you do not mind me asking?" Out of old habit, Irei wouldn't give away his "occupation" so easily to anyone who was actually looking for him, although he had ended up telling quite a few women around this place what he was. He was always surprised by each different reaction he received each time he did it. But Zach seemed to looking for the services of a necromancer, so Irei decided to wait and see what the boy needed.

When the bartender left with just a shrug, Zach felt as if he had been let down. He wasn’t expecting to see Irei there either, so Irei’s approach surprised the younger man. Zach almost said hey to him, but Irei cracked a joke about Zach getting smashed again. Well, maybe not a joke but something close to one. Zach let out a sigh, his chest deflating and shoulders falling with the motion. “No,” he answered simply. Zach wasn’t looking to get drunk anytime soon again. He wasn’t very good at holding his liquor.

He didn’t think anyone else had heard him ask for a necromancer, but Irei’s question set the record straight on that one. Zach debated for a moment if he should say, especially since he didn’t ever remember Irei being a necromancer himself. He probably wouldn’t have been so hesitant to talk about it if he knew that little fact about the other man. His silence at first displayed his apprehension when it came to talking about it, but eventually Zach figured there wasn’t any harm in telling Irei why he was looking for one.

“I thought maybe one could help me,” Zach said. He bit the inside of his cheek, gazing at the smooth surface of the bar in front of him. “I had a brother that passed during the Pandora virus.”

Irei couldn't help messing with the kid. Seeing as it was his first and only impression of him. Zach had been pretty hungover from that night Sascha had brought him to the bungalow, and he had been pretty reluctant to let Irei help him. Irei mentally shrugged it off. He was a stranger after all.

After taking his cigarette from his mouth, he took a drink, finishing off the cocktail, shutting his eyes, and shaking his head slightly. Another person who had lost someone thanks to that damn virus. Actually Irei was surprised more people hadn't come looking for him for the same reason. Zach just happened to be the first since coming to Elysium.

"I guess you are in luck then. Guess who just happens to communicate with the dead. Yours truly." Irei pointed toward his nose and then took a puff from the cigarette. "Are you sure this is something you want? It may open old wounds. It is not something to be done lightly." He turned back toward the bar and glanced at Zach out of the corner of his eye, sizing him up.

Zach wasn’t expecting that one. He turned around in his chair, eyeing Irei closely as the other man revealed he had the ability to speak with the dead. “Are you serious?” Zach asked, wanting to make sure. He got a vibe from Irei that the other man probably liked to kid around sometimes, and he wanted to know for sure that Irei could actually do that. Considering he really wanted to find a necromancer and it involved a touchy subject, he didn’t want anyone pulling his leg.

Other people were probably afraid to ask such a question because they didn’t want to open old wounds, but Zach was the type of person who had a hard time dealing with unresolved issues. After the unsent letters they found in Jared’s dorm room, Zach felt there was too much left unsaid before his brother passed away. He never got to hear it from Jared’s own mouth — that his brother still cared about him. Only through hidden letters filled with scratches and scribbles due to editing. Jared never could find a way to apologize for what had happened between the two brothers.

Zach nodded his head stoutly. “Yeah, I’m pretty sure. We found out something . . . after he died, and I just thought that maybe I could talk to him again. Not for very long, but just to hear it from his own lips. You know?” He looked away. “I haven’t told my family yet, though, but I think they would like to do it, too. For closure. To say goodbye.”

He figured Irei would understand what he meant without him having to go too far into detail. It was a very personal matter, and Zach hoped he didn’t have to delve too deep into it for Irei to agree to help him.

Nodding his head, Irei listened to him. He had been surprised that at first Zach had met his statement with suspicion. For some reason he hadn't expected that from Zach, and found he was pleasantly surprised. While the world maybe more concentrated and people may seem to all have powers, the art of lying rarely died. Irei took little of what people said to him at face value. He had been lied to enough times to be wary about it.

"I am very serious. If I did not have a talent for it, necromancy would not be something I would claim." He ordered another drink. Something straight this time. No spices or fruit to muddy the taste of the alcohol. He just wanted to feel the burn slide down his throat and let it pool with the rest in his stomach.

"Well, if you understand what you are asking, I will help you. But you should speak with your family first about it. I am not very good at making others understand what it is I can do. More often they become upset with me for even mentioning it." He thought of the time he had mentioned to Logan about calling his father's spirit back.

Irei sat down on the bar stool next to him and looked at Zach. "So, what would you be willing to trade for my services?"

Zach used to be wary of other people more than he was now, but it was much harder for him to let go of his initial feelings of distrust when dealing with such a sensitive topic. If he was just meeting someone for the first time, it wasn’t hard for him to be carefree and open. This was anything but an ordinary meeting, though. When you went seeking a necromancer, it was something to take seriously.

He was assured with Irei’s reply, nodding his head in agreement. Zach full understood what he was asking for with this, and it wasn’t something he was going to turn back from now. Of course, if his family had too much trouble dealing with the prospect of talking to Jared again, Zach knew this meeting could be delayed. Even if he was ready, it didn’t mean his parents or sister were ready.

However, Irei’s request of payment surprised Zach. He glanced up at the other man with his mouth open. “Payment? I have to pay you?” He thought about it for a moment, looking down at the counter. “Well, I guess I have gold or jewels or something like that . . . ” It was the only kind of payment that usually came to Zach’s mind since gold and jewels always had value to most people.

Irei was probably more wary of people that he used to be, but there wasn't anything that stood out about Zach that marked him as a particularly untrustworthy person. He looked similar to Hayate, but the boy acted completely different from the pompous vampire. Though they did have the same face...

Irei checked himself and turned his gaze away so that he wasn't staring at Zach anymore. He very much doubted the boy would welcome an advance from someone who was undoubtably drunk. This boy probably had a normal life and a normal girlfriend waiting for him. Well, as normal as life can be after the apocolapse.

"What good do Gold or jewels have for someone now? It might have been worth something before, but not anymore. Make me another offer."

Zach frowned after Irei told him gold and jewels weren’t any good. He had no idea what Irei wanted, and maybe if he knew he could make a better offer. He sighed and scratched the back of his neck. “I’m not sure what sort of things you want,” Zach said honestly. “I mean, I don’t have a whole lot or anything grand if you don’t count the things I can make, but I don’t know if I have anything you could find a use for.”

He tried to run through a list of the things he owned in his head, but his cottage wasn’t full up to the brim with stuff. He had all the basics, most of which came from his home in California or was given to him by the Council once they arrived here. Zach bit onto his lower lip as he tried to conjure to mind something Irei could use. He did have a lot of electronics still. Some of it was useful ever since they made the generators.

“Well, I do have some CD players, a portable DVD player, and some stuff like that,” Zach suggest as he turned to Irei. “How about that?”

Ieri couldn't say he wasn't intrigued when he heard the offer of a portable DVD player. It had been a long while since he had been able to watch TV in any form, but since the generators had been put into use he had found a way to charge up his ipod so when he was in a mood to be alone he whipped out that puppy and shut his door. the problem with it was that half of the music on it was Sascha's acoustic American music. Irei preferred music that had a pounding bass in the background so he wouldn't have to hear his own thoughts.

"Well I do still find use for onyx, if you can make that. but diamonds.." He shook his head. "I am afraid Mitsuko-chan would be tempted to borrow them when she comes over. although I am interested in the DVD player. Do you have any movies to go along with it?" Actually Irei would probably just do it for the onyx, but he wanted to see how far he could push the kid.

Irei wondered if Zach paid attention to what others did in the haven like Mitsuko and he. Somehow a lot of people had seemed to figure out about Sascha and him, so it seemed someone other than himself was paying attention to small details.

"I can make you onyx," Zach said quickly, knowing it wouldn't require him to give up something he didn't want to part with. Onyx was easy to for him to make. He actually huffed in amusement when Irei mentioned Mitsuko might come over and borrow any diamonds that happened to be around the place. It was the DVD player that made him smile, though. He could tell Irei seemed to be joking about it, although a part of him could have been serious. Zach decided to humor him.

"I got a portable one that's all yours," he said. Zach bit his lip and tilted his head to the side, a thoughtful look on his face. "If you can do this, of course." Zach moved to leave his stool at the bar. Since he knew where Sascha lived and knew Irei lived with him, he didn't have to ask how to get in touch with the man.

"I'll let you know after I talk to my family," Zach said, nodding his head in a farewell gesture to Irei. He still wasn't sure what his parents would say or how they would react, and it was entirely possible they might blow up at the idea and say no. But Zach believed more than not they wished for the opportunity.

It might take some convincing, but he was sure they'd agree.
