Thursday: January 24, 2008
Who: Adrienne and Zach
When: Afternoon
Where: Conté cottage, Adrienne's room
What: Broken ribs are not fun!

The full moon was all but a blur to Adrienne, especially the part when she had gotten into a fight that was bad enough to break a couple of her ribs. Another wolf had jumped her from behind, she remembered fighting, but in the end they had gotten the better of her. Typical werewolf rough housing was what it boiled down to. Even with advanced healing broken ribs took at least a week to heal even with Elven medicine and magic. It was the reason she had stayed home for the past two days. Walking home from the medical pavilion had been hard enough that Adrienne couldn't imagine walking anywhere else.

Her dad and brother had been especially helpful, and they catered to her every need. Jason could empathize with Adrienne if only because he had broken a rib once a few years back. He told her it was one of the most painful things he ever experienced, and now Adrienne agreed. It felt like someone had taken a sledge hammer straight to her chest, and just let her have it good. She literally felt broken, but she tried not to let the pain show on her face. It was a shame that faster healing didn't come with higher pain threshold.

Adrienne sat on the edge of her bed, her feet planted firmly on the ground to brace herself to stand. She took a deep breath, one that turned out to be a bad idea since that hurt, too. She inhaled sharply, and grabbed her side. "Oww..." she mumbled under her breath. Werewolves were supposed to be tough, but she felt far from it now. She glanced at the door to her room, and sighed. Maybe she really didn't have to go to the washroom just yet.

Zach appeared around the edge of her door, biting the inside of both his lips as he smiled from underneath it. He came to visit her and see how she was doing. He knew her family was taking good care of her, but it didn’t stop him from being the worried boyfriend that he was and visiting her. Lycanthropy wasn’t an easy thing to deal with, and he had learned as much from his relationship with Adrienne. Eventually, she’d become skilled enough to the point where it would be easy, but that day hadn’t come yet and she still had some years left to go. Until then, he could dote on her until she grew sick of it. That is, if she ever did.

He hung from the side of the doorway for a moment, eventually letting go and making his way over to her bed. He took a seat beside Adrienne and propped his hands against the bed on both his sides, turning to look at his girlfriend. There was a soft smile on his face, which showed his worry and his love all at once. “How are you feeling today?” Zach asked, half-knowing the answer but needing to ask anyway.

Normally, he’d grab her by now, but he heard from her brother than she had some broken ribs and Zach was afraid he’d hurt her. So, instead of wrapping any arms around her, Zach kept his hands to himself to keep Adrienne from feeling anymore pain right now. He could hug her when she was healed.

Zach smirked. “I know that’s a ridiculous question to keeping asking after a full moon, but you know I have to ask it each day until you feel better,” he said.

Zach's appearance brought forth a bright smile from Adrienne. No matter how bad she was feeling Zach could always make her feel better, emotionally at least. There wasn't much that the alchemist could do to make her pain go away, but it was nice knowing that he cared enough to come visit her every day. It was very unlikely that she would grow tired of his visits.

"I'm feeling..." she hesitated a bit, and took a shallow breath. "Better than yesterday at least." She smiled for him, and then leaned sideways to bump her shoulders with Zach. Her smile turned a little bit playful when she bumped into him again. "You know you can hug me, right? Or kiss me, if you want. My lips aren't broken... only my ribs." Adrienne gathered her strength, and inched close enough to Zach to place a kiss on his cheek. A pleased sound came from the back of her throat as she lingered there for a few moments.

"It's not a silly question," she assured him. "It shows you care. And what about you? You feeling okay?" Sometimes it felt as if she and Zach never had the chance to talk about things - important things. They knew each other like no one else did, and yet there were so many things that were still unknown to the both of them. It was one of the best things about being in a relationship though, learning all the little things she could about Zach. There was something new everyday, and those things only made her love him more and more.

“That’s good,” Zach said, smiling impishly at her as she bumped into his shoulder. He leaned sideways toward her, bumping her with his own shoulder as well. His smile turned into a grin, and he stayed against her side when he leaned toward her this time. Her kiss against his cheek was sweet, and he closed his eyes for moment to relish in the simple touch. He liked the simplicity as much as he liked the complexity, and it wouldn’t have been the same without having both in their relationship.

“Well, in that case,” Zach told her afterwards, turning to face her on the bed, “I can kiss you, but hugging is still out of the question.” He tilted his head and moved to place a kiss against her cheek as well. Zach pulled away for a few seconds, but his lips went straight for her lips next, lingering a while in a pleasant kiss. “Hmm,” Zach said, feeling a silly grin sweep over his features, “I guess this means we have to refrain from sex for a week or so, eh?” He lowered his gaze and made a defeated gesture with his fist. “Drat,” Zach joked, clearing kidding around given the ridiculous grin on his face.

He nodded his head. “I’m feeling okay. I’m not the one who got pummeled by other werewolves the other night, just so you know.” Zach pointed at her as he spoke the last half.

Sometimes they had moments where they could just talk about things, but other times it seemed like so much else was going on or they were just enjoying themselves too much to talk about things in their heads. It didn’t mean they never had time to talk; it just meant time sometimes got away from them. There were still things they didn’t know about each other, but their relationship was still young. The two of them had a long time to learn the little things that somehow slipped through the cracks so far.

A soft laugh came from Adrienne when Zach mentioned sex. She still couldn't laugh very heartily because of her pain, but that didn't stop her from having a sense of humor. She swatted Zach's arm playfully, and then leaned in to give him another kiss. It was languorous, but not lacking in passion as she slid her tongue into his mouth. "We can still have sex," she said softly. "You just have to be really slow, and gentle with me." Her fingers traveled up his leg with each word before she pulled back to grin at him impishly.

She waved off his pointed finger dismissively. Full moons were by no means safe. Werewolves were feral creatures, and unless there was familiarity between them they often got into fights. Adrienne usually tried to avoid other werewolves, but sometimes she wasn't so lucky. "It's not my fault!" Her voice squeaked at the end, and she smiled at Zach sheepishly. "I don't remember what happened exactly, but I don't think there was more than one other werewolf I was fighting with. But I fought back good, the other one was just bigger. I think. I dunno."

Adrienne shrugged, but smiled at him so he wouldn't worry. She placed a hand on his knee, and used him as a brace to push herself to stand. She winced a bit when she finally straightened, and groaned softly. "I gotta go potty," she said over her shoulder. "I'll be back in ten." It normally wouldn't have taken that long, but she had to do everything slowly otherwise she would exacerbate her injury.

Zach grinned into Adrienne’s kiss, the fingers on his leg tickling pleasantly. “I think I can do that,” he said quietly, the amusement still clear in his voice. Of course he could joke about it, but he was actually afraid of hurting her in reality. Sex would have to wait until she was healed or at least until a few days had passed for her to heal enough. “Well, maybe I can do other things instead, if you know what I’m sayin’,” Zach joked, unable to bit off the laugh at the end.

His laughter had subsided but came back full force as she squeaked in protest at his statement of the facts. “I didn’t say it was your fault,” he admonished with a playful smile, leaning towards her as he said it. Not for a second did a rough ‘n’ tumble with another werewolf set off alarm bells in Zach’s head. These sorts of things always happened on the full moon, and Adrienne had been hurt much worse than this before. Broken ribs were nothing compared to coming out and fainting in a pool of your own blood.

Zach helped her as she tried to stand and use his leg as a brace. One hand went to her waist as the other went to her back. As she started to walk off and announced where she was going, Zach couldn’t help but toss a funny remark back at her.

“Well, that just killed the mood!” Zach called after her in jest, though not so loud as to attract the attention of the other people downstairs.

Their kiss was sweet, and it brought a smile to Adrienne's face. His offer to do other things for her made the girl's smile a little more mischievous, and she bounced her eyebrows at him. "Other things," she asked curiously. She knew he was joking, but she couldn't help but tease a little bit more. "Other things like... massage my feet? Or brush my hair?" She chuckled a bit. "Or maybe I should do other things for you?" Adrienne tickled his side a little bit before her laughter turned slightly painful, and she was forced to stop.

This was the sort of pain that Adrienne could deal with. Though this was her first experience with broken ribs she knew that the pain would pass in time. Injuries only seemed bad the first day or so, and once you stop paying attention to it completely is when the pain really starts to disappear. Adrienne figured the pain would only be bad for another day or two, and after that she'd be almost as good as new. But for now every movement she made took time so she could try to avoid the sharp pains through her body.

She laughed at Zach again as she left the room. "Yeah yeah yeah," she responded. "I bet if I come back naked that would revive the mood really quick!" Her voice trailed off down the hall as she reached the washroom, disappearing for only a few minutes before she made her way back to her room. It didn't take a full ten minutes, but it did take longer than usual.

Adrienne settled back on the bed, but farther away from Zach this time. She wanted to lie down, and she knew that he would understand. "Come lie down with me," she said as she slowly started to recline onto her back. This was the part that hurt like hell, and she tried her best to breathe through the pain. She relaxed once she was down, and moved to lie on her side to face Zach. "This sucks," she said with a small pout. "You need to kiss it better," she suggested. There was a playful grin on her face. She knew that a kiss wouldn't automatically make her injury better, but that didn't mean she couldn't use it as an excuse to get Zach to kiss her tummy.

“I dunno,” Zach called back with a laugh at the end. “Coming back naked after using the potty is just one of those not sexy things . . . ” He was having too much fun teasing her, but he decided to let up on the jokes and let her take her time in the bathroom. He knew Adrienne was having a hard time moving around considering her injuries, and he understood if she took longer than normal to do certain tasks.

Zach lied backwards on the bed as he waited for Adrienne in her room, glancing over at the doorway when she reappeared. He sat up and watched her as she carefully took a seat on the bed, though a little farther away from him, and tried to lie down herself. Zach followed her beckoning and crawled over to her side, frowning when he noticed the discomfort on her face. She shifted onto her side, and he relaxed on his side, too. “I know,” he said softly, leaning in to kiss her on the lips. Even though she had a playful grin on her face, he still felt the seriousness of the situation. Adrienne was hurt pretty bad.

However, Zach didn’t know that he wanted to kiss her elsewhere other than her face. Once he pulled away from her lips, he placed soft kisses on her cheek, forehead, and chin. He pulled his head back toward the end, a little smile appearing on his lips. “How’s that?” Zach asked.

"Just for that I'm never getting naked for you ever again," she countered with a laugh. It was nice being able to tease one another the way they did, and unlike other girls Adrienne could take it as well as dish it out. Besides, she knew Zach wouldn't take her threat seriously; the two of them had too much fun together while they were naked to never be naked again.

It was sweet that Zach was concerned for her, but he didn't have to treat her like she was a porcelain doll. A kiss anywhere other than her lips or face wouldn't hurt anything, but it seemed as if Zach didn't even want to try. Despite her feelings Adrienne smiled at Zach, and nodded. "That's a little better, I guess," she said in a playful tone. She lifted a hand to cradle his cheek, and leaned forward to rub their noses together.

"I'm sorry I'm so much trouble," she said a little sheepishly. "Do you ever wish, well... well that I wasn't a werewolf?"

It wasn’t that Zach was treating her like a porcelain doll. He just didn’t want to accidentally hurt her when it could be avoided so easily. All he had to do was be careful with her, and she wouldn’t wince in pain. His carefulness showed just how much he cared for her, to not needless cause her pain. It wasn’t as if he was afraid of her or anything like that either. Zach just didn’t want to hurt her when he didn’t have to, plain and simple.

Zach made a face. “A little better? What, my kisses aren’t good enough?” Zach wrinkled his nose at her as she leaned in to rub her nose to his. “Some boyfriend I am,” he said, wondering what in the world he might have been doing wrong — or whether or not she was just kidding around with him.

“You are not so much trouble,” Zach said, falling down onto the bed beside her. His hair bunched up messily around his head, but he didn’t care. “And no, I don’t ever think about you not being a werewolf. It’s like a strange alternate universe that would creep me out.” He grinned like a dork at her. “It’s like me being a girl. Or you looking like your brother.” Zach suddenly made a face as he realized where that train of thought was going. “That’s just . . . weird.”

Adrienne knew that Zach cared for her, and she knew that it was the reason he was so careful with her. That didn't mean she wasn't going to pout about it, though. She just liked being held by him, and it made her upset when she couldn't because of her injuries. Still, it was nice being able to spend time with him like this.

She let out a small laugh. "I'm just teasing," she answered. "Your kisses are better than good, you are a wonderful boyfriend, and I'm the luckiest girl in the world." Adrienne leaned forward to kiss him this time, and moved closer despite how much it hurt to do so. She didn't outwardly show her pain this time around.

There were times when Adrienne's insecurities reared their ugly head, but they were few compared to the past. She was glad for that since she didn't want to annoy Zach if she constantly needed reassurance. The werewolf smiled at him, laughing at little. Her nose wrinkled, and she poked his stomach. "Eww, I so don't want to look like my brother. Not that he's ugly or anything," she correctly quickly. "I'm just a lot cuter than he is, but I get what you're saying. Thank you." Zach always had a way of making Adrienne appreciate the fact that she was a werewolf. It was a part of who she was now, and it was important that she accepted it.

“Excellent,” Zach teased back with a funny accent. He leaned in to return the kiss she gave him, a bright smile on his face as he did so. It was nice to receive compliments occasionally, but it was even better to know that he made her happy. Sometimes he worried about things like that and whether or not she really liked the time she spent with him. It was a natural worry that many people in relationships thought.

Adrienne wasn’t the only one with insecurities. They were both young and just starting out with things like this, and neither one of them were full of themselves. Just like Adrienne, Zach needed reassurance from time to time as well. He laughed at her reaction to looking like her brother. “Yeah, Jason looked like someone dropped him on his head as a baby,” Zach said. “Not in a bad way! Just in that ‘I’m special’ way, if you know what I mean . . . ” He chuckled some more, leaning over to gently drape an arm around Adrienne.

“Of course you’re a lot cuter than he is,” Zach agreed. He kissed her on the cheek. “I dunno if he’s cute, but I know you are.” Zach grinned at her. He accepted everything about her. That much was true. He only worried sometimes about whether or not the feeling was mutual, and it seemed as if Adrienne had the same worries as him when it came to that.

Adrienne let out a small laugh in the midst of her kiss with Zach. He was so silly at times, but it was one of the many things she loved about him. She got as close as she could with him, nuzzling closely to his chest. She took a deep breath, and his scent filled her with complete security. A smile formed upon her lips, and it was one of those moments where all her insecurities simply melted away.

She did worry about their relationship at times. It was natural for people to doubt that things would always be as good as they were currently. It wasn't so much that she didn't trust Zach it was just that she wasn't sure that she was doing enough to make him happy. It scared her that he might break up with her someday, and so she did her best to not think about it.

"And you're definitely cute," Adrienne said as she leaned back just enough to kiss Zach's chin. "Every last inch of you," she added for emphasis. She accepted everything about him, and as far as she was concerned he was perfect. "I love you," she said softly as she nuzzled into him again. Those little movements still hurt her, but it was well worth it to be that close to Zach.

Zach laughed as she called him cute. “Well, that’s good,” he said. “It’d suck if I was ugly, but you do know I get the cute thing a lot.” He gave her a pointed look that said she ought to call him something other than cute. Handsome was a nice one. Hell, even sexy would seal the deal for him. “You’ll have to liven it up with something new pretty soon. I need to know just how much I’m appreciated over here, lady.”

He made a silly face at her, but the look softened as she nuzzled close to him. He rested his head close to hers, his chin just above her hair. “I love you, too,” he said softly in reply, and the humor was replaced again with something more serious and fitting for the moment. Adrienne was precious and adorable the way she was right now — not that she wasn’t always that way — but there was something more noticeable about with her current innocence shining through with each careful movement she made.

Sometimes Zach liked feeling like he was the rock, and he gently hugged her as she lied in his arms. Zach closed his eyes and let his breathing even out. Maybe they could take a nap here together in the cool confines of his room.
