Who: Eleven and OPEN
When: afternoon
Where: the restaurant
What: Christmas at the restaurant.

"Right," said Eleven, "Two waters and a cola, got it! Coming right up." She grinned at the family that sat below her at the table. "And I'll definitely see if we can do the weekday special," she told the father, "even if it is a little late." Turning, she offered the small winged child a wink. As the child smiled at her, Eleven moved back into the aisle. "Whoa!" On the balls of her feet, she swept out of the path of an oncoming waiter before she sang and pirouetted her way to the order counter.

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

"Order, please!" she called as she cleanly tore a small sheet of paper from her pad. With her fingertips, she slid the order sheet toward the open kitchen. As she turned back to check on a table or two, she let her shoulders droop for a moment as she blew her hair out of her face. Wow, was the restaurant busy today! She thought it wouldn't be for some reason. Maybe because it was Christmas, and she was used to places being empty on Christmas. It was something she took for granted, that deserted feeling in the world that made you want to curl up at home with family.

"Oh!" Eleven turned again to the kitchen. "And could you do the weekday special? Please? Pretty please, you know you want to!" She folded her hands together over the counter as she begged. "It's only half an hour late and it's Christmas! Well, for me at least." She wasn't entirely sure who was the Christmas type. "Do it for me? Really?! Great, thanks!"

Ah, success. Eleven pumped her fist. "Score," she murmured before she laughed to herself. After she poured out the two waters and the cola, she brought them to the previous table and mentioned that there was one weekday special around and that family would have it. Then she took down the rest of the family's order and went again to the counter to slide it into the kitchen. "Order, please!"

She glanced at the clock. Time for her break already! Yay! "Hey," she said to her fellow server, "I'm going on break for a sec, all right? Thanks!" After pouring herself some iced tea, Eleven took an empty seat at a four-person table. What was she thinking about earlier? Oh yeah, the busy busy busy! It was nice, being busy when she couldn't think of anything else she wanted to do today. She missed August far, far too much and she wished she could at least call her parents. But at least other people had their families.

Something moved in the corner of her eye. Eleven turned. A person was waving her over. "Oh," she said. She didn't want to ignore the person so she went over to their table. "Hi, sorry about that. I'm on break right now..."

James wasn't spending Christmas with his dick of a dad. He was pulling the " because we are stuck together in this haven, this means that we should spend time together." Right, so on all the other Christmases when he wasn't there he shouldn't be mad because on this one Christmas he was trying to say sorry for it all. Nope, didn't work like that dad, sorry.

He let Mojo stay with his father while he walked the long, cold walk to the town. Smoking helped ease the chill, swearing even did. But it still was as cold as hell outside. It would be worth it since he was going to eat at the restaurant instead of spend time with his asshole of a father.

He really didn't know how the restaurant rules worked in the joint (which reminded him, he really needed one), so he just sat down and stared at the tablecloth blankly for a moment before he waved at what he guessed was a worker over. Great, either he was in a bad mood or was in an idiotic situation when a cute girl was around.

When she stated she was on break, James really didn't know what to say.

"Well, uhm. That sucks. I can ask for someone else?" He put his elbows on the table before he continued. "Doesn't it also suck to work on Christmas?"

"No, it's totally fine!" Eleven said, flashing her palms to him, "I can get you whatever you need." She bit her lip as she smiled. It was no problem for her to work during her break, it just made her more busy, which she liked. He looked like he was around her age, too, and he was sort of cute. A kindred spirit perhaps? "Well, almost whatever," she admitted, scrunching her nose playfully, "I think the cooks'll get kind of mad if I bring you the kitchen sink."

She pulled a wayward strand of hair back behind her ear. "Yeah, I guess it should be kind of a drag, but I kind of like it. I need something to do on Christmas, and people have to eat, you know? Sad, but true." It was definitely much better than hanging around her room at The Wine Bar & Inn. There were times Eleven couldn't stand the temporary feel of the place, though her stay was anything but. With a shrug, she went on. "Anyway, it's nice to see other people spending time together. It makes me feel all Christmas-y inside!" She waved her hands a little as she smiled. "By the way, I'm Eleven, and I'll be your server."

"Whatever I want?" He repeated back towards the at the time stranger. "You know, this is probably stereotypical to say, but I guess this place would have had some sort of medieval menu. But it smells quite good in here." His nose caught the smell of eggs, bacon, that sort of of thing. He guessed everyday was a surprise and an upscale to his expectations. "You have like eggs, toasts and bacon, that sort of thing? I'm starving." He looked to the side for a moment before continuing.

"I hear you. If staying home with nothing to do, or being with someone you can't tolerate isn't your thing its better to work or walk around. The vibe I'm getting right now says the people are quite friendly now anyways. Breakfast usually has people quite and hungry. Not to mention the holidays tries to make people humble."

James could relate to liking the more fleshed out places like the cafe or just staying near his house or the markets. In the case of getting drunk he liked the Tiki hut over the Wine Bar. Something about the Wine Bar just didn't sit with him.

Though he couldn't relate to wanting to spend time with his father, her words made him smile. "I'm James. Your..uh, customer?"

Eleven tugged her order pad up out of her apron and plucked her trusty pencil out to follow. "Yup, yup, and yup," she murmured as she scribbled down the order, "we've got all of the above!" She wasn't surprised about the boy's expectation, she'd felt the same way upon first visiting the restaurant. After all, there was a real blacksmith in town and there was a tavern-y place right next door, too. "I know what you mean, at first, the decor and environment can lead one to expect a medieval menu."

She dropped her pencil back into its pocket without looking as she listened to him. "The people have been really good today so far," Eleven confirmed as she nodded. "Even though some of them don't celebrate Christmas." It was something she took for granted when she was at home, the whole to-do with a tree and its star, and cookies in the oven and singing and even going to church. Something she missed. But there was no time to think about that now!

"Well, James, it's nice to meet you." She extended her hand out to him. It didn't happen very often that her customers introduced themselves back. And she liked James already. "I don't think there's anyone I can't tolerate in Elysium. I hope it's the same for you. If not, I'm glad you're here where you can spend your time in peace."

"Oh--" she caught herself, "Did you want anything else? Something to drink?"

"It's not that I can't tolerate the people here." James began honestly. "It's just that. I don't know. I sometimes wonder why everyone here can stay in such a good mood. I mean, don't you ever wonder what's out there, who's out there? You know..how after a certain radius we can't leave?" He wasn't trying to be depressing, it just was a thought that came to mind. While others were thankful for things, James guessed he was the negative outside the box-er. "I guess I would dwell into thinking "well hey, it would be really nice to wake up from all of this and instead of seeing a Pegasus, I would really love to hear an airplane fly by instead."

He missed the cars, the friends. Though Elysium did make his dad try harder, he still would have preferred home. Although, in the back of his mind he was grateful for these people he was meeting.

"Do..you...you know. Have family here?" He made a pitter pat noise on the table with his nails for a moment. "It's always better when family is around. Well, most of the time."

He gave a weak "yeah" when Eleven sated she was glad he was here. He guessed he was glad too.

"Oh uhm. Orange juice?"

"Oh." Eleven blinked. Had she missed that part? She'd never thought about it like that. She didn't remember the not being able to leave. Or maybe she did remember but she'd never thought enough about it that it struck a chord in her. She'd never tried or been moved to try. "I've never really given it much thought. Maybe we're not supposed to know what's out there. Maybe it keeps us safer." Maybe she was taking her time here for granted. She randomly missed driving sometimes, and being able to listen to the radio blasting at high volumes with her favorite catchy songs. Yeah, she had to agree it would be nice to go back to the life she knew before Elysium. "I get what you mean. Sometimes I miss movie theatres," she added, not too helpfully.

"I don't have any family here," Eleven admitted. She pressed her lips together as she considered the other words that popped into her head. But I really miss them. Now was not the time to feel down! "But that's okay," she said slowly, letting the cheer slip back into her voice, "Because I know I'll see them again someday. I have to, right? It's not like they're gone forever. They're just in a different place." She nodded. Yup, that was the most important thing to remember.

"Orange juice!" Eleven scribbled it down. "Got it. Going for traditional American, I see." She smiled. "I'm surprised you haven't asked for a bulls-eye. I love those." She flashed her palm at him to accompany her dazzled expression. "Those are so great here!"

"Oh dude. I totally miss movies." He knew it was random, but with a tilt of a head, he asked a very curious question. "What was the last movie you saw before this whole shit storm? I mean I know some don't remember. But I think...one I remember was X Men: The Last Stand." Oh man, he personally thought that movie sucked, but many people may have liked it.

James frowned when she stated she had no family. "I'm...really sorry." He stated sincerely. "That must be really hard. How did you get here?" James didn't want to pry, but did she mean..dead? James used to say that about his mother, so he was assuming so. It was a sensitive subject, a lot of people lost people close to them.

The Therianthrope laughed about the bulls-eye. "What is it?" He then gave a coy smile. "Maybe it's because I'm German, you never know!"

"Oh gosh, I hated that movie. It was like they neutered half the characters!" She paused as she found herself crushing her pencil in her hand. "I mean," she tried to save herself, "Well, if you liked it? Um! No offense? Anyway--The last movie I saw? Hmm." Eleven was surprised it didn't immediately come to mind. As she tapped her chin with her pencil she thought that fictional horror didn't hold a candle to what the world had been through, was going through now. That reminded her--"Oh! It was Pan's Labyrinth." She opened her mouth to continue but caught herself. "Gosh that movie was good, but depressing. I kind of wish I saw something happier now..."

Eleven wasn't used to hearing apologies for this sort of thing. In fact, she wasn't used to talking about these things with anyone. "Oh, thanks. It's not--It's like." She tried to gather herself. "It's. The not-knowing. That really bugs me, you know? Cuz I just wish I knew where my cousin was, at least." Eleven inhaled deeply and smiled. "I got here by luck, really. I was studying abroad in Greece and I made some good friends there who had a contact here-" Eleven opened her hands to the restaurant to indicate Elysium, "-so they sent a scout to where we were."

"German, huh? But you have good taste!" Eleven grinned. "A bulls-eye is when they make a hole in your bread and cook an egg in that hole. It's tres bonne! And I realize that was bad French instead of German..." She stuck her tongue out with a playful smile.
