Who: Rosalinda & Kazuki
When: Evening
Where: The Temple
What: Well, it is Christmas Eve. Where else would she be?

Snow had begun to fall while Rosalinda was inside one of the chapels within the temple. The white flakes falling outside of the glass amazed her as much as the inside of this temple. It housed separate quarters for each religion imaginable. It was lucky to be big enough to house so many separate ‘chapels,’ as she saw them. None were too big or too small, and each held a variable size to its expected amount of visitors at one time. Rosalinda let out a soft sigh and leaned back into the pew. The snow continued to fall, the corners of the window frosting up. She glanced forward, taking in the head of the chapel.

Given that she was Catholic, she chose the Catholic chapel. A small smile formed on her face as recognized both one for Catholics and Protestants. This chapel was adorned with stained glass windows, dark oak walls, and all of the proper ornaments. A statue of the Virgin Mary looked down on her, and Rosalinda said a final prayer before picking up her long skirts and shuffling her way out of the chapel into the corridor beyond.

It was dark inside of the whole of the temple, lit only by candlelight in these hours. If she had her family with her, she might have been spending Christmas Eve with them. Darkness settled on her heart when she faced the truth yet again: they were not here with her. No matter how many months passed her by, it was impossible for her to overcome it. She was alone in this world with very little to get her by but her faith and a few kind hearts around her. It was little reassurance, but it was better than nothing.

Though in truth, it would seem predictable that Kazuki was Buddhist, he was in fact Agnostic. He knew something was out there, something that kept him going, but he didn't give it a name. He was raised in the Buddhist faith, but he never believed in it. It was almost like he went to the temple to find out if on Christmas Eve, he would find an answer to what he should believe in. If only it were that easy.

He didn't mean to, but he fell asleep in one of the benches in the temple. His what he would call snoring was ringing through the temple. He grew tired of thinking about what he should believe in. He was the seeing is believing sort of person he guessed. Also..he was the why me sort of person.

Why did the virus happen? Why was he a vampire? Why was the bench so damn uncomfortable?

He shifted a bit and sat up, ruffling his hair with a groan. He probably sounded like a zombie. After a few moments, he got up from the bench and began walking around aimlessly.

For the sakes of shits and giggles he started making eerie noises, not realizing there was actually someone around. He really needed to take the temple more seriously.

"Iiii am the Ghoossttt of Christmmmasss"

Rosalinda heard the eerie sounds before she saw the presence they were coming from. At first, it actually caused her to stop in her steps, though not out of fear. It was more like curiosity. She realized not too long after that it was a person playing around because she heard what sounded like quiet laughter or giggling, and a frown crossed her face. While she was all for good cheer, walking around pretending to be the Ghost of Christmas on the holidays was not very funny to her.

She reigned in her annoyance with a deep breath and stepped forward into the next hall when she saw the figure in the near distance. He was casting shadows on the wall with the way he walked past the candles. “This is not a playground,” Rosalinda called out firmly, eyeing the young man ahead of her. Her hands were on her hips as she preferred not to cross her arms. Her choice of a black cloak and winter dress with blood red velvet trimming almost made her appear a ghostly figure herself of the darker kind. “It is a temple for the faiths. Treat it with some respect if you are going to be here.”

Though annoyed, she wasn’t mad at the boy. Youth often had a hard time taking holy places seriously; Rosalinda understood, even if it was something she wished she could easily instill in them.

An interesting idea popped into her head, and Rosalinda approached the young man and took him by the arm. She began to walk down the shadowy corridor, carrying him along. “You will make up for it by following me,” she said.

There were two things that came to mind for Kazuki. One was who the hell died and made you queen?. He was so used to seeing Theora, Dylan and Constance. If he saw either of those three he would have either bailed or bowed down for an apology. But instead he was near giving her a look that clearly read "Don't tell me what to do." He wasn't a child and he was just screwing around. Who was she to tell him what he could do in the temple? Well, it was a holy place, but even so...she wasn't on the council...was she? Boy did he miss something important if she was.

The other thought was that if he barked up the other tree he would have stated something absurd such as You can take me anywhere. Besides being hot, she was quite exotic looking, the lighting in the temple flattering her features. Maybe he could get out of this by telling her she could have all the free clothes in the world.

Making a sound of protest, Kazuki followed slightly behind her, his arm in her grasp. "Bu-But it wasn't like I was pretending to be Jesus. I'd make an awful Jesus." Stubbornly, he continued to follow her. "..But who even made you in charge anyways?" It just sort of came out accidentally. If the vampire was going to be dragged by the arm, he may as well have some answers. "You don't look like Constance to me!"

In her mind she wasn’t acting like a queen so much as a respectable woman of age, which naturally came with a little bit of authority attached to it. Regardless of whether she held any political authority, he should have shown her some respect for being old enough to be his mother. Rosalinda didn’t live this long to be treated like a child of similar age to him. She tightened her grip on his arm to show him she meant business, turning her head and giving him a stern look in the darkness.

It was ironic that he should ask who made her in charge in the first place. Rosalinda recalled the Head Council approaching her about the subject after they had somehow discovered of her existence in their haven. She wondered secretly if the doctor had something to do about it. After all, she had asked him to keep it silent, but he might have thought it in her best interest to do the exact opposite. They offered her a position on the Head Council once they revealed Constance Alexie was stepping down from her position, and they sought her out personally to ask her to join them. She declined at first, but they were persistent. Rosalinda told them she needed time to reconsider it. When she finally said yes, she wasn’t sure exactly what she was agreeing to do.

“Funny you should ask that,” Rosalinda said, glancing at the boy, but she said nothing else. Rosalinda was not prideful, not through arrogance. He didn’t need to know. It hadn’t been announced yet to the public.

Finally, she arrived into the main hall with him in tow. It was a secular part of the temple, dedicated to no religion in particular. Beautiful artwork adorned the walls. Ivory and onyx statues stood in offsetting patterns almost like black and white chess pieces along the alcoves in the walls to the left and right. Rosalinda loosened her grip on his arm but didn’t let go. She turned to look at him. “Why are you here tonight?” she asked, her tone simple and oddly kind.

The vampire gave a growl towards Rosalinda when she tightened her grip on his arm and he seriously thought about going into the realm of biting her hand. But for one, he wasn't in kindergarden and two, he might actually like it. Not to mention he didn't favor getting punished more so than he was at this very moment.

Kazuki frowned after a while. It was very rude to do what he did, but actually getting in trouble for some reason was secretly kind of..well..cool. He never really got in trouble. Usually he just stalked around the tailors and occasionally threw things at Warren and one time pushed him into a small ditch. But that was hardly as cool as what was going on at this very moment.

"How is it funny?" He inquired to her. "I don't even hear a har, har from you. I don't get it. You kind of look like Constance. Ohh my god. Does she have a long lost daughter!?" He was kind of excited if this was a possibility.

When they arrived at the main hall he was stunned by the beauty and finally true guilt set in. He seriously shouldn't have been playing around in such a place that catered to people's needs who were devoted to all kinds of religions. Or maybe they just needed a place of peace.

".......I dunno." It took him several minutes to come up with a good answer, the silence feeling quite threatening for him since he didn't want to leave "I dunno" as an answer.

"...I...I suppose I want this place to give me an answer as to what to believe in. I have no faith in anything. I don't believe I should either. I mean, some shitty things have happened to all of us before we got here. Then the virus, then people have been brutally murdered in this so called "safe haven". So maybe I come here to find an answer from some.."section" as to why all of this crap happens."

Rosalinda frowned as Kazuki seemed to be mocking her, calling her Constance’s long lost daughter. It wasn’t an insult by any stretch of means, but he didn’t sound as if he was saying it seriously and it aggravated Rosalinda. “Constance has many daughters, but I am not one of them,” she said, turning to look at Kazuki. “For starters, I am Italian.” She left it at that as she led him through the temple’s shadows.

When they stopped and she asked her question, she listened patiently for an answer from the young man. He opened up much more quickly than she expected him to, and his admission caused her own heart to sink in response. Well, at least he was being serious now. She wanted to say he looked like a hoodlum with the purpose of causing mischief, not someone looking for actual answers in a place for the holy.

She softened up to him, releasing his arm from her grip. Rosalinda took a deep breath and looked forward, trying to find a way to speak to him.

“Faith doesn’t come from a place,” she said in a quiet voice, though it was louder than the silence around them. “You can walk into a building, but it doesn’t mean it will make you feel anything. A building will not give you faith. Inanimate objects don’t give you faith.” Rosalinda glanced over at Kazuki. “The only place you will get faith is from within.” She looked back to the room, her gaze trailing around the inside structure. “I believe faith is good for everyone, but that does not mean religion is for everyone. Still, I think it is important to believe in something. Inherently, we need to believe in something, even if that belief is firm disbelief. It is still a dogma, a way of life.” Rosalinda turned to the young man. “Uncertainty is what hurts us. It can be useful to a degree. We should always question and keep some of our doubts, but too much doubt is a killer of all things. Too much doubt hurts us. It doesn’t help us.”

"Well..I mean you are really pretty. Constance may be old , but she is pretty." Kazuki tried to compliment after Rosalinda stated she was Italian. It wasn't a crime to be related to Constance, though it was a crime if he had to confront her. He was afraid that he was going to be sent into the dungeons or something. How great. A vampire in a dungeon.

The vampire gave her a dead look for several minutes. "That's all you got?" He then smiled, proving that he was kidding. "I guess you're right. I'm one of those people who I suppose expects things to fall into their laps. You know? Have the answer to something that easily. Since the population dropped so fast, maybe I think that I don't have to wait so long for some answers. But as you said, it doesn't come from a place or thing. Or the whole man upstairs."

Mindlessly, Kazuki gave her a bright smile. "You know so much! And you're not even old!" Though it was sudden and blunt, it was true. Most really wise people reminded him of Dylan. While Dylan was young looking, he was old in age so he was very smart. This woman maybe was a species that was old? He didn't dare to ask since he was already in hot water before.

Rosalinda almost took his ‘is that all you got’ comment to heart, a glare beginning to form on her face. She was beginning to think he didn’t take anything seriously at all, and those types of people tended to aggravate the otherwise calm woman. The moment passed, though, and she realized he was only kidding. It was a close call for him. She wasn’t above grabbing him by the ear and tugging him around the temple as if he were a pup she was trying to tame to obedience.

She held her chin up, exhaling softly. “If only answers fell out of the sky,” she said, before turning to look at Kazuki. “We’d all be better off.”

The young man attempted to compliment her on her age. Rosalinda felt herself smiling, though she didn’t believe she was young by any stretch of the imagination. If a person was only as old as they felt, then Rosalinda felt as if hundreds of years weighed down on her shoulders, not a mere forty-five. “I’m older than you think,” she told him. Rosalinda sent a glance his way. “But I have a feeling you’re trying to say nice things on purpose.”

"OH..so..so you're like some cool species then?" Kazuki tried to pry. He seriously thought she had a very youthful way about her. She carried herself well, dressed well and the way she spoke was very well. It was kind of like actors. They wouldn't be as sexy with just a normal accent sometimes. When they had an accent it gave them a flare, sometimes reduced the notice to the flaw of age. Not saying he would notice her age without the accent.

"I swear I tell it like it is. I mean even if I wasn't on thin ice, or you know the whole torch under the ass? I would totally be telling you the truth. Like, Constance? She is old, but she is pretty. You aren't. Dylan? He's like..medium looking old and is good looking! I mean, I speak the truth. Ask me anything!" He gave a faux innocent smile. "This is coming from someone who isn't going to age anytime soon, so you should be flattered." He teased at her.

"Did you arrive here recently?" Kazuki suddenly inquired, a small curious smile coming to his face. This woman needed to relax. He knew she had a more calming personality underneath. Ex nay the authority woman!

Some cool species, then? His question honestly floored Rosalinda, and she wasn’t sure what that was supposed to mean. There was a time when she could say something like that, and it didn’t usher forward any strange questions. That was not the case here, she was beginning to learn. “No, I’m not ‘some cool species,’” she informed him, finding herself a little flustered. “I’m . . . I’m . . . ” Human? she asked herself in her head, and it sounded like the oddest thing in the world to say. She wondered if it would ever cease being odd. “Human.”

He must have not be speaking clearly, but Rosalinda heard somewhere in there that she wasn’t pretty. She was surprised how much it offended and hurt her feelings to be compared to a much older woman and told the other was far prettier than her. It wasn’t that Rosalinda was vain, but even she had feelings and Kazuki had just inadvertently hurt them. She refrained from saying anything, but her unhappiness clearly showed on her face.

She shook her head at him, touching her forehead and trying to recollect herself. Youth these days had so far to go, she thought, forgetting her own counterparts when she was younger. “No, I have been here all along. I am not new. And . . . ” She looked over at Kazuki. What did he mean by he wasn’t aging anytime soon? She only just remembered what he had said moments before. “I have just been spending time by myself.” Things were easier that way.

She walked with him for a little longer to talk, but as the hour drew late, she eventually bid him farewell and told him to go home and get to bed. After all, he wasn't so old that she couldn't tell him that.

Rosalinda spent a little more time to herself at the temple before heading home herself.
