Who: Zach and OPEN
When: 4:00 PM
Where: The Herbalist
What: Browsing away the time 'til sundown . . .

Around 4:00 PM, the light was fading from the sky. The departure formed a vivid glow on the horizon, taking away what little warmth there was in the air. Zach didn't expect it to get so dark so soon, but during the wintertime the sun was funny like that. His destination was the herbalist shop, and it wasn’t too long of a walk to get there. His arrival was heralded by the bell near the inside of the doorway, sounding an announcement of the new presence in the shop. In comparison to a lot of the other places in town, this one was particularly small and had bottles and vials all over the place.

Zach could have easily mistaken this place for a glass shop if it weren’t for the substances clear inside many of the bottles. He didn’t often come here, not really thinking he needed anything from the herbalist. If he got sick, he knew to go to the medical pavilion. The herbalist was a shop full of things to get if you knew what you needed, and Zach usually never knew what it was he needed.

Today, however, was different. He needed something for Adrienne, something to heal with the healing process after the full moon. Adrienne was a bit bull-headed about getting help, if only because she always brought up how she could heal faster just due to being a werewolf. It wasn’t like she healed immediately, though, and Zach didn’t see anything wrong with giving her something right away to help with the pain or the cuts that came after a night of running through the forest as wolf-woman.

His eyes narrowed in on the various shelved articles. Fingers reached out, grazed a clear vial no larger than his index finger. It looked like little teeth or maybe miniature garlic cloves. He turned the vial around and spotted a label. “Coppsy Bells,” Zach read aloud. It sounds like a flower, he thought. Suddenly, his eyebrows drew together. “Teeth Regenerator?”

He would never stop being amazed at the things he discovered here.

Edelia always dressed like she was some sort of criminal. Her hair was always masking her face strands often leaking into her lips. Even when she looked Dominic in the eye she tried not to look at him all that much. Though from a sort of close distance her scales (in her opinion) just looked like overkill glitter, up close she felt like some sort of freak. Sometimes (and the mind was a powerful thing) she felt like her scales itched, so she would ask the Herbalist for some help in finding her some sort of remedy for her skin. Otherwise she would be flailing and itching around like some sort of fool. It was a shame that her scales couldn't just vanish.

After awhile she began to casually canvass the area, touching things occasionally just by habit.

When she heard someone speak up, she poked her head from one aisle to the other and looked at the stranger she believed she had not yet met. She was a very private person, often staying within her residence in her Naga form. The winter was cruel to either form, but she felt safer that way.

"Yes. I heard that for humans it helps their teeth became whiter. You know the whole Colgate bullshit. Whatever, I heard there is birth control so why not buy into it? Then again it could be for the vampires. This is just me being nosey and listening to the rumors." She realized she was intruding and turned away before going on her own personal search.

Zach’s head whirled around when he heard another person speak, and it took him a moment before he found the owner of the voice. He smiled once he saw her. She wasn’t a familiar face, but there were still a lot of people around here he hadn’t met yet. “Ha, Colgate, eh?” He glanced back at the vial and wondered if that was what it did. He wasn’t about it put it on his teeth to find out. Or did you swallow it? Chew it up? Zach wasn’t about to turn into a human guinea pig to see exactly what it did, though. “I’ll stick to good old-fashioned toothpaste.”

Putting the vial back in place, he turned to face her. “I hear they have everything here. It’s one handy drugstore. I’ll give it that.” He saw her resuming her search and looked around the shop himself. “You wouldn’t happen to know where I could find healing ointment, would you?” Zach piped up. “It’s supposed to be one of the simplest things on the market, but I feel like I could be looking here all night for a single tube of it.”

A few looks around didn’t herald the sight of what looked like a worker. “Two sets of eyes are better than one,” he offered, wondering if Edelia would bite. Well, not literally, of course.

Oh, Edelia was good with the healing ointments. She felt like she had been searching for a new ointment every time she was around. She gave Zach a friendly smile before she gave him a light head motion to follow her. The shop sure as hell was bigger than she expected. Edelia was so pessimistic about everything. She supposed she expected the place to look like some old rickety pawn shop. But luckily, she was quite wrong.

She went on her tippy toes to get a small tube that looked more like a vile and handed it to him. "This is for moderate wounds." She tried it on her scales and it hurt like a bitch. She figured it was worth a try. Anything was worth a try here since it was Alice and Wonderland. "I'm sure it can do justice if it is what you are looking for. But be careful, that shit smells."

Yeah wow, she wasn't one for being well with introductions. While she shoved her hands in her pockets she gave out her name in somewhat of a mutter.

"...Edelia. I'm not new or anything. I'm just not around all that much."

He was relieved when she looked like she could help. Zach followed her around the aisle when he noticed the simple head gesture from the girl. If she knew where to look, then today was his lucky day. Zach also made sure to thank some unseen force that she was tall enough to reach whatever it was that he needed. Because if she had to stand on her tippy toes, then there was no way Zach was going to be able to reach it without something to stand on.

"Thanks." He took the vial she offered and glancing at it carefully. He turned it around in his fingers and wondered if it would work for Adrienne. She usually never came out with vital wounds, except that once . . . but Zach didn't want to think about that. He shook the bad thought out of his head and nodded in approval. "This'll do," he said, smiling happily at Edelia. "Thanks again."

At her insistence that it smelled, Zach had to crack it open and take a whiff. He immediately regretted it, grimacing as he capped the vial again. "Oh god, it stinks."

He coughed past the smell lingering near his nose and wrinkled it for a moment. "Zach," he said, introducing himself, with a tilt of his head. "Yeah, there haven't been that many new people lately, and I understand. I like my personal bubble, too," he added, a little half-smile curling the corner of his mouth. "What are you looking for?"

Edelia laughed when she saw Zach's face. "It seriously smells like shit kept in a bottle. I would recommend putting it on at night and if anyone lives with you just stay like a hundred feet away from them. It took me about a day to wash the stink off. Hot water does best. The magic shop has wonderful things there that replace like deodorant and shit. I was desperate for a please help me remove this disgusting smell"

It was comforting to know Edelia wasn't the only one who liked to hide at times. It was winter so who the hell wanted to lounge out in the snow? Well, perhaps there were people like that, but she couldn't bare being one of them. Even the snow angel shit wasn't tempting for her.

The Naga bit her lip slightly when it came to her reason for being in the shop. "Oh, just looking for new skin creme. Sometimes my..skin..it gets rough...and things. So I try and see if this place has some ointment or something to sooth it out." She felt like she wanted to sink into her clothes.

"...So..uhm you live in the forest cottages, bungalows, the town?" She tried to move from the lie to to friendly question the best she could.

Zach scrunched his face and held up the bottle. "I'd be afraid to give this to my girlfriend, then," he said. He was seriously reconsidering it now that he smelled it and Edelia said it was a hard-to-remove smell. He didn't want to make Adrienne stink to holy hell after she went through a night of holy hell. "I think I'd feel like a traitor if I gave this to her. She'd probably prefer the regular creams at the medical pavilion. I mean, what's the point in using an ointment that stinks if you'll heal faster that its smell goes away?"

He was still thankful for Edelia's help, but he might end up putting the vial back on the shelf. He kept it with him for now, though. "Ah," Zach said. There was a moment of pause. "Yeah, I have no idea where something like that would be." He felt useless for not knowing, but was glad for the shift in conversation. "I live in town," Zach revealed, gesturing the way of the town cottages. "With my buddy, Nico."

Holding up the vial of healing ointment, he smiled in a silly way and asked the burning question on his mind. "You wouldn't mind if I put this back, would you? I'd get it for me, but I'm scared to get it for Adrienne. She might strangle me in my sleep as revenge." He grinned, the last statement obviously a joke.

"It works though, scouts honor! It just doesn't work for me. I mean, what I think would work is get the stuff that could counter act the odor and pour it over the cream. Just ask if it interacts with it working, if it doesn't-then BAM! You have the perfect combination. Trust me when I say this is the best you're going to get. Non allergenic and all that stuff. It sucks there is a price to it, but that method might work!" She tried to encourage.

Edelia gave a light-hearted smile. She was glad that Zach had someone to live with but all in the same she wished that she was just as lucky. "That's awesome. I bet he's nice." She inspected a random vile for a moment, shaking the contents before she returned it. "I just sense it. You can't have a mean person living with you, you know? I think it would have rubbed off on you by now." From what she knew of humans, they could easily influence each other. At least if their self esteem wasn't at their highest.

The Naga laughed when he spoke of putting it back. "Feel free. Believe me, strangulation sucks."....Not that she would know. She swore, she only coiled around someone's neck once and after awhile, she finally stopped. How dare she kill someone, correct? It made her give a sly grin, but it fit perfectly with the situation.

He was going to have to take a moment to consider it. If he got it, he’d definitely have to get something to counteract the smell of it. It was rancid. He smiled when she betted Nico was nice. “Eh, be careful what you bet on before you know what you’re betting on,” he joked with her. “Nico’s a great guy, but he’s not exactly Mr. Nice. He’s more like . . . Mr. Enjoys Poking Fun at People for Shits and Giggles.” Zach looked thoughtful for a moment, and then shrugged. “But, hey, what can I say against him? He is my best friend, after all.” He grinned at that moment. Nico was his best friend, but he was going to be honest about his best friend. Different people had different qualities, and nice normally wasn’t a word attributed to Nico. Then again, he wasn’t a jerk either.

“He’s not a jerk,” Zach quickly defended, just to make sure she wasn’t thinking that. “He just lacks social tact, if you know what I mean.” He laughed when Edelia said it would have rubbed off on Zach by now. “Believe it or not, Nico and I are pretty different. I mean, we have some similarities or we wouldn’t be friends, but overall we’re pretty different.” Mentally, he was searching for a phrase to describe what he was thinking about. “Opposites attract!” Zach finally blurted out. He paused for a moment, realizing how it sounded. “In a non-sexual way, of course.”

Zach wandered off down the aisles to look for odor cancellers. One that would work on this ointment. “So, where are you from?” he asked Edelia, loud enough for her to still hear if she had wandered off into another aisle. “I’m from California. Northern, not southern. People always think of LA and beaches, but the California I’m familiar with tends to have lots of forests and windy, cool weather.”

Edelia laughed throughout the whole time Zach was trying to explain his friend Nico and his relation to him. "Of course they do!" She responded on how opposites attracted. "If we were too muck alike, I think there would be far less people here. I think all of the boring people dropped dead before they reached the gate." She daringly said, with no regrets before she veered to the next aisle.

"Everyone here is unique, so I gander from who I see at the art shop. You seem unique, I bet your friend is, and..your friends since you seem likable. Ordinary people are overrated. I used to want to be ordinary." Her smile was cloaked by a jar of some odd substance. "But then I saw what happened to them when crucial times occurred." Her slightly malicious smile turned into a bright one. "Not to mention opposites are fun!"

She snickered lightly. "Of course, you don't strike me as gay. I bet you have a girlfriend and everything." He seemed the type. He was way to hot to be single. Shame. She'd try and be more tame and take a shot at him if she thought he was single.

"Me? I'm from Brazil. Rio, Sao Paulo to be exact. Most people think I am either from Spain or Portugal. So I feel your pain." She gave him a once over and chuckled. "You know, I bet you get people thinking you're from Asia too. Or that you speak an Asian language, correct?" Oh, stereotypes. "Don't get me wrong, the beaches are wonderful..but there is something so beautiful about the forests and the cool breezes."

Zach found himself on the urge of laughing, the amusement bubbling up in his chest. “Yeah, I used to want to be ordinary, too. Now, I’m not so sure.” He knew exactly what she meant, and he felt he could really relate. Zach always tried so hard to blend in and be normal instead of accepting that he was different when he really was. All of the attempts at trying to be normal turned him into a bit of a cold person himself, but he liked to think he had changed his ways since then. Things weren’t quite the same anymore, not really.

Zach couldn’t help it. He made a face when she said the word ‘gay.’ As much as he was okay with other guys being gay, Zach certainly didn’t think of other guys that way. He was comfortable in his own sexuality, but it didn’t mean he wasn’t a teenage boy — and teenage boys didn’t usually have the smoothest of reactions to things. “Thank you,” he finally said, taking it as a compliment that she didn’t think he was the gay type. “You’d be surprised how many people tend to think I am.” Yeah, he used to get picked on a lot for being short and Asian, and some guys liked to call him gay because of his looks. Zach tried not to think about those days as much anymore. High school was a bitch for everyone. Or, well, everyone but the popular kids.

“Cool,” Zach said with a grin. “Brazil, eh? That sounds like beaches and warm weather to me,” he joked. He rolled his eyes as she reminded him of some of the things people assumed about him before. “Yeah, I’ve gotten both of those. Sadly, I’m not from the motherland. Then again, I’m only half Asian and . . . I’ve never lived in either places my families’ are originally from.” Zach paused for a moment before jutting a thumb at his chest. “The other half is Native American, or Alaskan if you want to be really technical.” Zach waved a hand over his face. “The features aren’t really that different, though, but the cultures . . . oh yeah.”

Edelia looked Zach over and it only took a few moments before she said. "I can see it. I mean come on the world today translates short, cute men who know how to dress themselves into GAY." She stated almost factually but then laughed. "It's okay. I have secret gaydar and it hasn't blipped one bit." She teased. If she knew it related to High School, she could relate in a sense. Though her family was the ones who taught her, when she was out and about she was made fun of for her appearance. Some people just needed to burn. She didn't feel cruel at all when she felt glad that many of the people who teased her were now dead and rotten back home.

Edelia listened to Zach talk about his home and it sounded quite cool. He had family which was wonderful. Edelia was alone and though she told herself she liked it, she felt a sudden distraction build up in her head.

"I-uhm. I got to go. It was nice talking to you."

She gave him a wave before she left the shop and seemed to disappear out of sight. Edelia guessed she was still awkward with opening up to people.
