Who: Mitsuko and Adrienne
When: Afternoon
Where: Helicharis
What: Hanging out and girl talk

Mitsuko had never been big about celebrating Christmas. Her mother was old-fashioned, traditional Japanese and ignored Western holidays. Not to mention Christmas had the implications of family togetherness.

In the years she had been on her own, Christmas had mainly served the purpose of Getting Mitsuko Stuff. Her admirers would use the holiday as a way to earn her favor. She'd accepted the gifts of course, but always spent the day alone.

This year was different. She had Logan, who was spending his first Christmas without his parents. They were a family and Mitsuko was going to make sure he had a good holiday.

That was why she was out in Helicharis with her best friend, getting presents for her brother and the few friends she had. If she was really trying to connect with people now, she was going to show it.

She felt a bit bad about Adrienne walking around town so close to the moon, with snow all over the ground. But Adrienne was a trooper and she wanted to go out herself (presumably for her own family and boyfriend).

She frowned slightly as she came up with a thought. Mitsuko turned to her friend curiously. "Do you think I should get a tree? I don't know if anyone's got any... And I really don't have anything to decorate it with...."

Christmas was one of Adrienne's favorite holidays, but with the full moon falling on Christmas Eve she found herself dreading the day. She wasn't looking forward to starting the day naked, and in the cold, and she'd miss the holiday anyway since she would spend the rest of the day recovering. Still, she wanted to do some shopping, and it was nice being able to spend some time with Mitsuko.

"A tree? Do you want a tree?" Adrienne hadn't seen anyone giving out trees in town, but she had seen some people in the past few days coming out of the forest with trees in tow. "You could get one from the forest," she suggested. "But you'd have to cut it down yourself." The wolf shrugged slightly, a movement that caused her shoulders to ache. Adrienne didn't wince, but she did take a deep breath to ease the pain.

She smiled at Mits afterward, and patted the girl on the shoulder. "Don't worry about a tree," she said. "It's not important for the holiday. Just spending time with Logan will be enough. And hey, you know you guys are more than welcome to come over to our house if you want."

Having known Adrienne for several months now, Mitsuko knew what the girl went through on the full moon. And she knew the holiday wasn't going to be kind to her with her transformation. Hopefully, she'd be feeling well enough to do something fun on New Year's, if she wasn't having a romantic night with Zach or something.

"I dunno," Mitsuko said with a shrug and a laugh. "I've never done Christmas before. Not really. Not with.... Family and being at home. Okasama never celebrated and when I was on my own, Christmas was pretty much 'get a blue box from the guy and move on to the next'. Oh, and the robberies. Christmas was always a great time to hit stores. Big ticket items out on display and not a lot of security due to the holiday." She smiled. "I'm kind of excited about it just being family and friends. I'm even going to make Christmas cake. That was the first thing I ever got for Christmas. From my old mentor, when I was in Tokyo." Her smile grew at the memory. Despite the bad feelings associated with Sho, Mitsuko had nothing but good thoughts about his sister. "Maybe I'll make one for Sascha and Irei." She wrinkled her nose. "Then... Irei doesn't really like sweets. And I bet they'd rather forget the cake and just eat the strawberries and whipped cream off of me. Hm, you know, that's a thought too...."

Mitsuko realized she was rambling. She also realized she had more or less rambled into revealing her affair with Sascha and Irei. Not that she was ashamed of it. But part of her wondered how a monogamous girl like Adrienne would react to Mitsuko having casual sex with not one, but two, men (often at the same time). Especially considering Mitsuko had only recently broken up with one of Adrienne's friends.

"You know, I'd like that," Mitsuko said, accepting Adrienne's kind offer and also changing the subject. "You were the first person I met here and... I feel really lucky about that. And your dad is the closest thing I've ever had to a dad." She gave Adrienne a large smile. "Which makes us almost like sisters." The talk of family made Mitsuko wonder what her own mother was doing for Christmas, if she was doing anything.

Memories of Christmas brought forth memories of Adrienne's mother, and the lycan felt her heart sinking to her stomach. Her feelings were more tumultuous during the full moon, and it took more energy to stop emotional outbursts from happening. Adrienne plastered on a smile for Mitsuko, and placed an empathetic hand on the fox's arm. "There's a first time for everything," she said with a small smile. "And it's not about the gifts." The thoughts of her mother were still there in her mind, and the fact that this was the first Christmas without her mother stung deeply. She hadn't spent last Christmas with her entire family because of her lycanthropy, but at least her mother was alive. This year it was only her, her dad, and her brother. Are you up there, Mom? Watching over us? she thought quietly as she gazed upward for a brief moment.

The comment about the strawberries and whipped cream was a bit disconcerting, and Adrienne wasn't sure how to respond to it. An awkward smile found its way upon her lips, though, and she bit down on her tongue to stop herself from saying anything mean. Adrienne was less inclined to be nice during the full moon, too, but Mitsuko was her friend and she was determined to try. Her smile grew, but she quickly steered the topic to family once again.

"Well then welcome to the family," she said with a nudge. "I've never had a sister... it'll be nice to have more estrogen around again." This time the thought of her mother caused her eyes to well with tears. She wiped them away, and took a deep breath to regain her composure. Deep breathing - it was one of her meditation techniques that helped to calm the beast, and her emotions. "Anyway, let's find some presents!" She really didn't want to be weepy on Christmas Eve.

Mitsuko had no idea what Adrienne was thinking about. She didn't really know loss like that. She'd never had anyone she loved so much. Her own mother had been cold and distant her entire life. It only seemed like recently that Kamiyama Midori showed any interest in her daughter. There was a small flip-flop in her stomach. Should she get something for her mother? Midori didn't celebrate Christmas. Mitsuko had also told Midori that she was not a part of her life. Yet... She still thought about her. Her mother. Nearby. Reaching out to her. "Yeah." Mitsuko nodded. "There is a first time for everything."

She wasn't really bothered by the idea of Adrienne knowing about her, Irei and Sascha. They were adults and they had formed an arrangement that suited all three of them. She wasn't going to get deeper into the conversation. Adrienne didn't seem interested in pursuing it. But she wasn't going to deny what she had said was true.

"I've never had a sister either," Mitsuko admitted. She'd known other kits in the clan who were of similar age, but they'd always treated her differently. Better than them, as she was the daughter of their leader. It probably attributed to Mitsuko's sizable ego. It also kept her separate from them. She was never able to make real friends, having a real connection. Probably the closest she ever had was Sho's sister, but even that was always Senpai and kōhai.

Mitsuko realized that Adrienne's thoughts had become depressing. She put an arm around the girl's shoulder and gave her a one-armed hug, a sign of comfort and sisterhood. Maybe she was still getting a hang of the whole family thing, but some things came naturally. "Presents are good. Where do you think we should start?"

Family was important to Adrienne. The idea of family itself was important. Family was there through the ups, and downs, even if they were the cause of them. In the end the only people who would never turn their back on you was your family, at least that's what Adrienne believed. She also believed that there was more to family than just blood - two people could be close enough that they became family as well.

It was the reason that Adrienne extended the invitation to Mitsuko. She was becoming family to the werewolf, and despite the fact that some of the fox's decisions were questionable she would try to understand them for the sake of sisterhood.

The hug around her shoulders was welcome, and Adrienne hooked an arm around Mitsuko's back, and squeezed in return. "Presents are definitely good," she said. Her smile was still forced, but she'd be back to her cheery self in no time. It was Christmas, after all. "Well I really wanted to go to Bloomingdale's," she joked. "But I guess the gift shop will have to do." The werewolf steered them toward the quaint store that never seemed to run out of merchandise. Good for them since it did look busier than usual.

Mitsuko could count the number of people she trusted on one hand. 'Trust' was not something that came easily to thieves. But in the short time Mitsuko had known her, Adrienne had become one of those people. Her father as well. Her feelings for the Conte family were so strong, she had no desire to seduce Jason (something which might have been a minor miracle, given Mitsuko's attitudes towards sex).

"Bloomingdale's," Mitsuko sighed wistfully. "You know, there was this time..." She realized she was about to launch into another story about her thievery. But Adrienne had seemed a little uncomfortable with that before, so she held off. "The things here aren't too bad. I haven't gotten much from the gift shop, but I love the tailor's.... You know, I had some of Kazuki's designs before the virus? I LOVED his stuff." She sighed. "But I do miss the stores. New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Milan..."

She followed Adrienne into the gift shop. She began looking around, not certain of what she was looking for or even who she was trying to find a gift for. Then, she saw it. A gold compass. She picked it up and frowned. It was the perfect gift. Usually, this would be a time to smile, but she still had mixed feelings about the situation.

"Loki," she said quietly. "I should get this for Loki."

Deep down Mitsuko was a good person, and sometimes good people made bad choices. Thief or not, Adrienne cared about Mitsuko, and she was glad that they were friends. Besides, there were worse things than stealing that a person could do.

Her joke about Bloomingdale's held no truth in reality. Though she had shopped there before she wasn't really a huge fan of the overpriced fashions that were considered "in style". She wasn't much of a fashionista, anyway, being more of a casual dresser than anything else. But she did agree with Mitsuko about Kazuki's styles, she really did love the clothes he had made for her thus far.

The gift shop was filled with everything imaginable, but Adrienne was in no state of mind to think about presents when it took all her energy to stave off the growing pain. She kept a smile on her face though, and nodded when Mitsuko picked up the compass. "Mmmhmm, I think Loki would like it. Especially with his upcoming trip. You should get it." The werewolf's fingers traced over some odds and ends, but she wasn't really paying attention to anything she was touching.

Mitsuko made no apologies for her thievery. That was just a part of who she was. If people wanted to be around her, it was something they had to get used to. She didn't steal from her friends and that was good enough for her. That might have been why she hadn't many friends before Elysium. But it was reassuring that were some people out there who didn't judge, who still liked her no matter what she did.

Before Elysium, Mitsuko had been-- to quote a classic song-- a material girl. But they no longer lived in a material world. It was taking a lot of getting used to. Having Kazuki around did help a great deal. But it was going to take a while to get the commercialism out of her.

Mitsuko frowned slightly at the compass. It was the perfect gift, especially with Loki's upcoming trip. But she felt a bit strange getting something for her ex-boyfriend. "Loki and I haven't really talked since... I mean, things ended really well. We're still friends and everything, but..." She sighed. "I slept with Irei and Sascha. Yeah, we'd been broken up for a few weeks by then, but still... Won't he get upset if he hears about that? I still--" She sighed again. "Part of me still wants to be with him. I really liked him. And I know he's going to look at me different when he finds out what I'm really like."

Despite her misgivings, she hugged the compass to her chest. She was going to get it. She had to. It was a wonderful gift for him. But she continued to frown, this time, not because of Loki, but Adrienne. "Are you sure you're up for this, Ookami-chan? You don't look so hot."

Adrienne didn't know what to say in response to Mitsuko. She felt sorry for her friend's dilemma, and yet she couldn't help but think that she brought about the situation herself. The lycan wouldn't say that out loud, of course, but that didn't stop her from thinking it. She still supported Mitsuko since their friendship was important, and she said the only thing she could think of.

"Being friends is important," she said. "But he doesn't have to know everything. You don't owe him an explanation for something you did after you guys broke up, and you don't answer to him. I mean those feelings for him will always be there, but maybe you still need time to really find out what those feelings mean. Sow those wild oats for a while. Him, too." She was referring to Loki here. "Just because it's not meant to be now, doesn't mean it's not meant to be forever."

Those were the only words Adrienne had for Mitsuko, and hopefully they would give her friend some comfort. Adrienne really didn't want to see the kitsune distraught while they were shopping. That didn't stop her own pain, though. Adrienne didn't like to be a victim, and she was determined to hang out with Mits in spite of it.

"It's just the moon," she said with a weary smile. "It just hurts. I can't explain it without sounding weird, it's just a pain in the ass." She laughed a bit, and then nudged Mitsuko. "Nothing is going to stop me from shopping, though."

Mitsuko was aware she had brought things on herself. But that didn't make the situation any less uncomfortable or easy to deal with. Damn her new conscience. There was a time in her life when she didn't give a shit what people thought about her. Now she wanted everyone-- even her ex-boyfriend-- to think well of her.

"Don't know if I'll ever be out of those oats," Mitsuko sighed. Not that she was unhappy with that. She liked her life. She'd chosen to break up with Loki. It had been something she'd thought through for a while and his decision to leave just clinched it. "I think that's maybe why I don't want him to know so much about my oat-sowing. I want to keep the option open for Loki and I.... And if he thinks I'm just..." she thought back on all of the nasty words she'd heard about herself from people she'd crossed. "It would just make it a lot harder."

Mitsuko put an arm around Adrienne's shoulders and gave her a gentle squeeze. Nothing too hard. She knew her body hurt and was probably oversensitive from the moon. But she wanted to show her support. "If you need to take five or anything, just tell me, okay? We can go hang out at the cafe or something." She had never known any werewolves before Adrienne really. But the longer she was around the girl, the closer they got, Mitsuko looked deeper into lycanthropy to see if there was anything she could do to help out.

"So what do you want for Christmas?" Mitsuko asked, trying to lighten the day. "I've got to get you a present, you know." Mitsuko actually had a present for Adrienne (it had required Kazuki's skills), but she was mostly teasing the girl.

"You only say that now because you're still sowing them," Adrienne said in regards to Mitsuko's "wild oats". "I think that could change in time, but that's something you'll just have to wait for. But I get wanting to keep it secret so no worries, my lips are sealed." She winked at Mitsuko, and then passed her hand over a small leather bound journal. It was nice, but she wasn't sure if it was gift material. She had come out with the intention of spending time with Mits, and picking up a few items, but she wasn't sure if she could focus on it.

Mitsuko was so nice, and Adrienne was glad to have her as a friend. She nodded at the kitsune's suggestion. "Okay," she said with a smile as she returned the hug by sliding her arm along the girl's back. She let go after a moment, and began looking at other things in the gift shop. Adrienne hadn't thought about what she wanted for Christmas, and so she shrugged at Mitsuko's question.

"I don't know," she answered though it was obvious she was really considering it. She couldn't help but smile again at Mits, shaking her head a little. "Awww, you really didn't have to get me anything, but now I'm curious about what it is." She arched a brow playfully. "But you're not going to tell me, are you?"

"Suppose you're right," Mitsuko said with a sigh. "I might eventually get tired of doing that..." She thought about it for a moment. She couldn't see a time like that coming. Then again, a year ago, she wouldn't have seen herself living in a place like Elysium or having a friend like Adrienne. "Maybe in the future. You know, when I'm old and I'm not as hot as I am now." She gave Adrienne a smile. "Thanks sweetie. It'll just be between us girls. And Sascha and Irei, I guess."

Mitsuko really didn't want Adrienne pushing herself too hard. She knew it was difficult for the girl around the full moon. And Mitsuko would be just as happy hanging out at Adrienne's house, if Adrienne didn't want to be walking around. Mitsuko had the feeling they weren't in for any serious shopping anyway. It was mostly an excuse to hang out.

With an absolutely devilish smile, Mitsuko let out a small purr. "Oh, it has to be a surprise. But I'll give you a hint." She leaned in close. "You'll have to tell me how much fun you have with it." There. That was sufficiently teasing.

Adrienne didn't understand (or approve) Mitsuko's promiscuous behavior, but that didn't mean they couldn't be friends. The werewolf enjoyed Mitsuko's company, and that was all that mattered in the end. It was just a shame that this outing was right before the full moon, and Adrienne's pain made it hard to enjoy much of anything. She did manage a smile though when Mitsuko revealed her "hint". She let out a laugh, and shook her head.

"Well that could be anything," she said playfully though she got the distinct feeling that Mitsuko was hinting at something sexual. Despite that Adrienne couldn't even begin to guess what the gift could be.

Her smile faded after a few minutes, and Adrienne glanced between Mitsuko and the door. It was getting harder to shop, and Adrienne knew she needed a break. "Hey... how about we hit the café for a little bit?" They didn't have to stop shopping altogether, but Adrienne needed to drink something warm to soothe her aches and pains. She linked her arm with the kitsune as they left the shop. The happy sounds of their chatter filled the air, and it always would between the two friends.
