Saturday: December 22, 2007
WHO: Hayate and Chris
WHEN: Nighttime, around 8:00 or 9:00 PM.
WHERE: The Wine Bar
WHAT: The vampire and human go out dancing.

Careless—it was a word becoming more and more intrinsically intertwined into Hayate’s choices. Everyday he was making more careless decisions, giving less and less of a damn about the consequences of his actions. Each time the mythical figures of old let their image of themselves get to their heads, an inevitable downfall loomed on the horizon. His hubris was not going to last him much longer when it came to keeping him upright on his own two feet. Somewhere along the way he was going to make a foolish mistake, and he was going to get caught for it. Tonight might have very well been the night to set him down on that very path.

When he left the safe walls of his home to take his prize somewhere more public, he did not think someone who knew her would see them. Chris, usually a perfect image of clean-cut youth, was donned in a small, beaded dress of his choosing. The material echoed of fae-kind with its cool, bright gossamer colors and trimming of miniscule gems, which resembled the shine of diamonds. As for him, he dressed simple in navy blue so dark it might have been black.

His desired destination was The Wine Bar tonight, a place where he could count on the occupants being drunkards with failing memories. He left the house on a high of pure, potent youth’s blood, having taken plenty from Chris before they had even gotten ready to leave. It took the young girl time to recuperate, but she was fine soon enough. With a white scarf wrapped around her neck, no one would know any better—which was not out of place considering the winter weather. The effect it had upon him was evident, however; he seemed vaguely high, as if on a drug with stimulant properties. They entered the bar in this manner, and he removed her floor-length coat to place it on the racks with all of the rest. His jacket went right beside hers.

The bar was full of drunkards, a thin sheen of smoke, and slow but danceable music pulsating throughout the air. A band played tonight, music without words since singing was not common here; the beat of a steady drum accompanied by various other natural instruments. He would have taken her elsewhere had this not been the only place open tonight for adults, but it would do for him.

Despite having found a wonderful home with Riley at the water bungalows, Chris had spent the past few days at Hayate's cottage without returning home even once. She would most likely stay with him for a few more days as well, having no intention of leaving him when they had been having so much fun together.

Tonight they were going to the Wine Bar, a place that Chris had always passed, but never stepped foot in before. Maybe it was the connotation of 'bar' that kept her from going in, thinking that she was too young for such a place. She would have never been able to enter a bar back home, but the rules in Elysium were different and there weren't any age laws regarding drinking or entering adult places. She was excited, especially since she was dressed a little more grown-up than usual.

Chris didn't know what to expect to see inside the establishment, but the light fog of smoke that assaulted her upon entering the bar wasn't pleasant. She coughed a little, and waved her hand in front of her face to clear away the smoke. Chris wasn't a fan of smoking, and she would have left the Wine Bar if she hadn't come with Hayate. The vampire wanted to be here, though, and Chris decided to bear with the cloud of nicotine laced smoke. At least good music was playing - that was something the young girl did enjoy.

She followed Hayate closely, beaded dress shimmering with every step she took. There was a small bounce to her movements, going along with the beat of the music. She reached forward, and took his hand into hers as she looked around for a place to sit.

He led her toward the bar, which meant passing across the floor of full tables laced with rambunctious drunks, cheering for whatever reason as they clunked their heavy mugs together. It was easy to avoid the crowd; the two of them passed by unnoticed, no taller than five feet each, children to anyone else’s eyes. Occasionally, the bar had children wander in out of curiosity or a dare, but they normally did not stay for very long. There were not any real rules against it, and besides, Hayate was no child. It was debatable if the girl with him was a child or a young adult, but given her state of attire, it was doubtful anyone would give a care to question her age. She looked adult enough for the place she was entering, and their vision was hazy at best.

Sitting himself down at the bar, Hayate held her hand as she lifted herself onto a stool. He turned his attention to the one behind the bar, ordering drinks for each of them. Tonight, he wore his usual older look, if only because it benefited him in the setting. The age lines were clear on his face, and his voice was its usual deep tone. His eyes were old, blue but aged, and his hair was pieced with gel, the roots dark and the separated locks swept back, displaying a single curve. He appeared put together but slightly messy at the edges, a refined but loose look overall. It was fitting.

When their drinks arrived, he slid the one meant for Chris in front of her. It was a smooth, fruity drink with just the right amount of alcohol shielded beneath sweet flavor. He took his own, downing a large portion of it immediately. Flavorless, but meant for appearances. He placed the glass down and looked at Chris, allowing them to just sit for a few moments and relax. His drink would have no effect on him, but it was not as if he needed it with fresh blood running through his veins.

“Chris,” he began, his hand coming to the side of her face, fingers curling behind her ear, “what would you like to do?” Hayate leaned forward, tracing his finger along her jaw, admiring the pale flesh.

They settled down at the bar, a position that allowed them to view the establishment in its entirety. Chris turned to face Hayate as soon as she settled onto the stool, one arm resting along the mahogany counter. She smiled at him before she scanned her surroundings, making note of little things that caught her attention. She didn't notice, however, that Hayate had ordered her a drink since she was too busy staring at everyone else.

No one seemed to notice that she was on the young side. Her attire and makeup disguised her well enough that the bartender didn't even ask her age. Chris pushed her long hair over one shoulder when she finally turned to look at her "date" for the night. It was a date, wasn't it? It was the only word that fit the situation, and the idea filled Chris's stomach with butterflies since she was sure she had never been on a date before.

She pressed her cheek toward Hayate's hand when he touched her face, and giggled softly when his finger traveled along her jaw. "Anything," she replied, not really knowing what there was to do in the Wine Bar other than sit around and drink like everyone else. Her fingers wrapped around her glass, and took a sip without knowing what it was she was drinking. "Oooh..." she licked her lips and took a bigger drink. "Fruity!" Chris smiled brightly, and drank more without realizing that it was made with alcohol.

A smile creased the corner of his mouth as she responded, a lilting laugh in her throat and the word anything passing from her lips. Of course, this was a public domain and he had to remind himself of that. People did worse things in public than what was on his mind, though. He staved off the thoughts and grinned even more as she tried the drink; he expected her to know it had alcohol in it. After all, they were in the middle of a crowded bar and the last thing he was going to order her was cranberry juice.

Alcohol was not a corrupting force, not naturally. It might loosen her inhibitions, but it would not take away the shine of innocence beneath the surface. Innocence was more than just sobriety and virginal affairs; innocence could be characterized by a gentle, trusting smile upon her face or an unknowing look made of wide, childlike eyes. It was even better when those eyes shone with admiration. Simply put, it was a way of personality more than anything else. Hayate favored the doe over the snake.

His eyes glanced out to the crowded floor. A number of people were dancing, laughing. Enjoying themselves. He looked to Chris. "We could dance in a little bit," he said carefully. "Once you finish your drink?" He raised his eyebrows, smirking slightly. "Or two?"

Of course Chris expected there to be alcohol in her drink, but the fact that she only tasted fruit in her drink made her think otherwise. She had only had alcohol one other time in her life, and that was when her parents let her try champagne last New Year's Eve. Champagne was bubbly, and sweet, and she found she liked it, but that was all she ever had, and she didn't know what any other alcohol tasted like. Probably like Ny-Quil since that had alcohol in it.

But whatever it was that Hayate ordered for her did not taste like Ny-Quil, nor was it bubbly like champagne. It tasted like fruit juice, and it was really good. She finished the first glass quickly, smiling even more at Hayate, nodding when he suggested dancing and having another drink. "Yes, please," she said, not forgetting her manners. "I would love to dance! And have another drink, please!" She reached for his hand, her eyes filled with the admiration that Hayate loved to see.

Another drink came, and Chris drank that one as well though not as quickly. Her cheeks were turning a darker shade of pink because of the alcohol, and with her lowered blood volume Chris was beginning to feel a little tingly because of it, too. She interlaced her fingers with his, and sighed happily. Just another sip or two and she'd be ready for the dance floor.

Once she had finished her drink at last, Hayate smoothly took her hand and lead her from the bar through the crowded tables yet again. The smoke died away from the inside of the establishment, fading as the amount of smokers could no longer properly light their cigarettes anymore due to drunkenness. Hayate had little need of material drugs when he had the physical, living one — better than all of the combined effects of any narcotic or psychedelic he had ever tried in his life. Those left a dry, empty feeling inside of one at the end of the night, but Chris — Chris was all of the potency, none of the endless downward spiral.

He led her onto the open floor with the dancing crowd, weaving a way into the middle of the slowly gyrating bodies. It was not a rave, but it also was not an elegant slow dance with violins in the background to set the mood. Everyone seemed to have a haze to the their vision, and they appeared to dance in a way akin to slow motion with all of the dirty sensuality one expected to see on the dance floor of a nightclub. His hand slid around her waist, cupping her hip and pulling her flush against his body — her back to his chest, her round bottom to his . . .

Hayate ran his hands along her body, the crowd soaking up the image from the eyes of wanderers. They vanished into the sea of bodies, and he leaned close to her ear to whisper French into her ear. It was not clear why he chose French other than he liked the language, and it was smoother than his mother tongue. They moved against each other amid the torrent of bodies, and he closed his eyes to picture the mood in his head — people, like water, splashing around as they danced, slow and sensual with each other. It was a strange image to imagine, but he was in a less than normal state of mind.

The drinks that Chris had consumed held just enough alcohol to give her a happy buzz. She didn't really need it to join Hayate on the dance floor; there was very little the young girl would not do in the company of the vampire. Her already low inhibitions were made practically nonexistent by the alcohol flowing through her system.

Chris wove around the crowd with Hayate leading the way. Everyone seemed to be in some sort of daze, trapped in a world created by liquor and drugs. Chris didn't pay attention to them, though, not when Hayate pulled her against his body to dance. They swayed to the throbbing beat of the music, and Chris reached behind her to grab onto Hayate's leg. Her other hand held tightly onto the arm around her waist, pulling him closer as she moved her body against him. The music was guiding Chris now, that and the distinct arousal she was beginning to feel.

Chris tilted to her head to the side when he began to whisper. His breath was soft, but hot against her skin, and it brought a smile to the girl's face. She didn't understand a word he was saying, but she liked the way it sounded. It was sexy, and it definitely turned her on. Chris responded positively to it by rubbing her bottom against his groin, and turning her head just enough that she could look at him from the corners of her eyes. She smiled at him, giggling a little before she turned her body around to face him.

Chris slipped her arms around Hayate's neck quickly, and closed the distance between them. "Hi..." she said with a smile. Her breath fell against his lips, and it seemed as if that was the only space between them as their bodies pressed together. The music dictated Chris's movements tonight, and the alcohol urged her to obey. She didn't care about the others around them, or the fact that they were in a public place. Besides, she didn't know anyone who visited the Wine Bar anyway.

"Can we kiss?" She asked suddenly, unable to stop herself from wanting at least one taste of his lips. She pressed her lips against his to test the waters; chaste in comparison to the things they had done in the past. "Please?"

An almost laugh, more like a taking in of air, accompanied a small smile creeping onto his face as she rubbed her bottom against his groin. Hayate’s hand stilled on her stomach, pressing backward, as he leaned his head against hers and turned toward her, his tongue grazing against the shell of her ear. Her giggle was nice, and it made him smile even more than before.

When she turned around to face him and put her arms around his neck, the whole noise of the room seemed to drown in a whisper. For a moment, he could not hear any music or talking, only the hollow sound of empty air and her breathing, her pulse beating, heart pumping in her chest. He heard her over the roar of what seemed to be nothing, his arm hanging loosely around her waist.

If she wanted to kiss, then he had no reason to deny her. His lips parted under the press from hers, his tongue flicking out to lick her lips. It caused him to grin this time, and movements of their dance halted for a brief moment — even if it seemed as if they could not really stop as long as the sea of bodies swayed around them. Still, they almost felt as if they moved with the crowd, though they moved very little at all. A kiss was just a kiss, even in a public place, but it held all the more trouble for him and her. What was he doing being public with her, and why wasn’t he asking himself that very question in that moment?

Because he had forgotten it as he descended upon her mouth, capturing her in a languorous kiss. No one was looking; no one was seeing. At least, he would like to tell himself that for now, chancing fate as if he was daring her to come after him.

It was like something out of a movie, the couple dancing in the middle of a crowd though the spotlight was only on them. It made everyone else, and everything else seemingly disappear. All Chris was aware of was Hayate's body against hers, and his arms around her waist. She had come forward for a kiss, and he responded by licking her lips. Chris smiled.

There was a time when Chris was afraid that people would find out about them. She didn't care about their age, but she knew that there were those who were not so open minded. Still, she wanted this with him. Wanted to kiss him and touch him in public. Chris did not deny him when he kissed her there on the dance floor. She responded eagerly, tongue sliding into his mouth as she tightened her hold around his neck. It pulled her closer to him, deepening their kiss. A soft, pleased moan resonated in the back of her throat, and her fingers curled themselves around the strands of his hair.

It felt as if he took the very air from her lungs whenever they kissed, and she gasped quietly when they finally parted. Chris pressed her forehead to his, and tilted her head to the other side before she kissed him again. She muttered his name in between their lips, a whispered confession of her devotion to him. Chris locked her gaze with his when she pulled away this time. She started to sway to the music again, grinding against his body slowly.

As much as he feared before that someone might catch them and trouble would come of their once secretive liaison, those fears barely registered in his mind tonight. No one noticed them in the dimly lit earthy alcove of the bar, the only light made of candles—though a handful of paper lanterns hung around the section squared off for the musical performers. Loud chatter filled the air along with music, and no one spared a glance in their direction. No one seemed to notice anything strange about them, whether it was due to Hayate’s similar height to the young girl or perhaps the makeup meant to make her look older.

It emboldened him to think of taking it further as one of his hands moved to touch hers without actually taking it in a grasp, leading her hand out away from their bodies, hovering in the air beside them as they moved. Of course, that was not the action meant to take it further. If no one cared of their presence in the bar like this, they way they danced so shamelessly sexual with each other, then what was to stop him from taking her to other public places—showing his affections elsewhere? If no one cared here, why would they care anywhere else?

Or maybe bars were just one of those places where no one cared, and here they were safe. They were strangers to the faces around them, and even if they became regulars, why would anyone bother them? People came to the wine bar to get drunk. They did not come here to rattle off about morals to sinners; they came to be sinners, a place where Hayate fit right in with an eerie, precise sort of ease.

Morals were for temples. Bars were for everything else.

Hayate twirled her around to press her back into him, one arm around her waist as the other slid underneath her dress right in the middle of everyone around them. “No one cares,” he whispered in Japanese beside her ear. He changed his language on her, if only because he felt like it. The hand beneath her dress grasped her rear, a smirk curling his mouth as a huff of air blew past his lips. He licked the shell of her ear, his hand moving to the crease in the middle and sliding slightly between her legs from behind. A sudden, violent urge seized him, his mind flashing with images of her crying as he took her. “I want to see you cry,” he murmured, fangs bearing in the dim light with the faintest gleam.

He was a monster with strange whims, and this was his newest desire.

Alcohol has a way of lowering a person's inhibitions, and Chris was no exception to the rule that night in the Wine Bar. While she wasn't normally shy, she had never revealed her feelings for the vampire in public. But tonight was different. She felt bold, and confident as she danced with Hayate amidst the crowd of strangers. Her attraction for the vampire was apparent as she moved her body sinuously against his. It might have turned out differently were Charlie there with her, or anyone else she considered a friend, but they weren't. She was alone with Hayate, and the only eyes on them that night were those of drunken patrons who didn't pay them any attention.

The vampire turned her around in his arms, pulling her back flush against his body. She felt his other hand reaching under her dress, and it forced the girl to smile mischievously. She'd be lying if she said she didn't enjoy it, scandalous as it was. It brought forth vivid images of the two of them together, enjoying one another as they did the night before. She wanted to be with him again; the sooner, the better.

Chris tilted her head to the side when he spoke in Japanese. She didn't need to understand the words since his actions spoke volumes. The grasp, the lick, and the touch that dared to venture in between her legs was enough for her. Had he gone farther he would have felt the smooth indication of her arousal. "I have no idea what you're saying," she said finally as she looked over her shoulder at him. "But I like it." Chris held the arm across her waist with one hand while the other reached behind her to touch Hayate through his pants. It was a brief, but it would relay her message clearly. Even if it didn't, she had no issues voicing her wants out loud.

"I want you," she said. She turned her head to look at him over her shoulder, eyes glinting with desire. "Can we go home?" Chris had no inkling of the sordid thoughts that were running through Hayate's mind. Even if she had her involvement with the vampire had clouded her to the implications of such fantasies, and she would not protest even his strangest whims.

The grin on his face was not one of evil intent, but it spoke of his amusement at her reaction. He had never used any sort of force on her, save for his reckless determination in the beginning; still, even then, she had not protested his direction. The girl was a clean slate when it came to the opposite sex, and she had developed a crush on him, leaving her in a deadly combination of the two mental reasonings. Without a negative experience with men, she could not think what he was pushing on her was wrong. Due to her crush on him, she might have even wanted it. Either way, Hayate did not possess the reasoning to care. He knew what he wanted, and he took it; what else was there for him to know or follow?

The girl was bold in her own right, but perhaps the alcohol had something to do with it. Her admissions out loud coupled with the touch to his pants had caused the grin, but her question was not one he cared to answer to affirmatively. Hayate tilted his head to the side, a false look of thoughtfulness appearing on his features. Hayate slowly shook his head to make his answer known.

"No," he said near her ear, a raspy breath tickling her flesh. "I don't want to go home. We're staying right here," he added, the grin taking over his face as his hand wandered further over the skin beneath her dress. Fingers touched thighs, and his eyes glanced up to see off through the crowd. The dance floor was packed; the tables beyond, almost empty. He leaned his head against hers as he stared at the empty tables. "I want to stay right here," Hayate whispered near her ear.

Chris wasn't shy when it came to her feelings for Hayate, but taking action because of those feelings were another matter entirely. She was more comfortable letting him lead the way when it came to their sexual adventures, and it was the alcohol she consumed earlier that brought forth her bold behavior. Her crush on him only clouded her judgment even more, and she allowed him to do as he wished without any protest.

A small frown formed upon her lips, and she let out a quiet whine when he denied her request, but she didn't argue with him about it. She resigned to his decision, enjoying the way his fingers smoothed over her skin. Chris continued to sway with him, her bottom rubbing against him in a slow manner. She pressed her head against his gently, nodding after a moment. "I'll stay wherever you stay," she said softly. The hand that held onto his arm gripped tighter, and Chris sighed contentedly while her cheek moved against his face. "I want to stay with you... always."

There was something in the way she spoke the words to him. I want to stay with you . . . always. They echoed inside of his mind, calling out to his baser instinct — the beast inside of him put there by the vampire’s blood all of those long, long years ago. It reminded him of his previous thoughts from weeks before, earlier thoughts of possibly. . . . his grip tightened around her body, his mind taking the thought into consideration. He was lucky their sexual intercourse had not done the job already, taking the decision out of his hands. Or had it ever been out of his hands? Hayate was a lot of things, but careless was not one of them. Not until lately.

Could he change her? Would he want to change her? Then, there lied another important question: Did she want to be changed? The young girl did not know what it was like to be like him, a vampire. He wondered if she could survive off blood as him, and would her blood still taste as sweet and fulfilling if he altered her. He was not sure, but the tightening in his grip was an answer all its own. It went deeper than feeding and fucking — the animal underneath the surface saw in her a mate, a companion. If that were true, perhaps a change would not be something to fear. He would not lose his precious achievement just because she became a vampire.

Would he change her, though? Hayate could not decide, not as they swayed amidst the crowd of bodies. This was not a topic to think on tonight, and he closed it off from his thoughts. He did not want sex tonight. He wanted to dance, and they were going to dance.

Despite her inebriation, he simply guided the way for them to dance, removing his hands from beneath her dress and placing them in the proper places on her body. “Let us just dance,” he said beside her ear, resolve in his voice. With that, he led the way.

All thoughts of sex left Chris's mind as the vampire held onto her tightly. Though she enjoyed that part of their physical relationship it wasn't something that the girl needed in order to be happy with him. Swaying to the music among the sea of bodies was enough for her, and she smiled serenely at the comfort she felt in his arms. She leaned into Hayate, and looked at him over her shoulder before she turned around in his arms.

Her arms wound around his neck, and she was silent for a few moments as her eyes roved over the features of his face. Chris had always held a fascination for vampires, and that fascination grew once she began to spend more time with Hayate. He was the best thing that had happened to her since she arrived in Elysium, and she couldn't imagine her life without him. She didn't really understand the gravity of the word "always", and what that meant to someone as old as Hayate. Still she said it, and she meant it.

Chris followed his lead, swaying to the music that flowed all around them. Her cheek was pressed to his, and she rubbed against it gently. She didn't say anything in those moments, but her actions spoke volumes. She adored Hayate, and she always would.

Always.
