I can hear them screaming; Dione Castel ([info]audiomorbid) wrote in [info]nosuchplace,

Who: Dione & Dante
When: Midmorning, December 20
Where: Helicharis
What: Another discussion

Snow. Dione couldn't see it, but it still managed to fascinate her, the sound so very different from the sound of walking through leaves or on hard ground or really being anywhere else. It was closest to her ears as walking on sand, like the beach, in the way that it seemed to both crunch and slide under her boots.

I really wish you would consider moving to town, getting a roommate, something, someone, Dexter walked along with her talking as he did occasionally. I worry about you being alone.

"I'm not alone or lonely." Dione smiled in his general direction. "Besides, who would want to move in with us? The emphasis seemed somewhat necessary to remind him that where she went, he went, and people were probably going to have an issue with the idea of an eavesdropping ghost around all the time.

Well, moving to town would mean that you're closer to the Wine Bar and don't have to walk this trek every single day. The ghost did have a point on that score. Then she'd be able to stay at the bar later as opposed to always having to come back early in order to be in before curfew.

"I wouldn't even know where to begin with such a thing," Dione admitted. She'd put the thought out of her head soon enough so it obviously didn't matter all that much.

I can think of a way to start. Dexter offered in a cryptic tone before seeming to fade away from Dione's immediate surroundings. She had gotten better at being able to tell when he wasn't around and his sudden departure made her look around with confusion.

"Where did you go?" came out in a frustrated huff. A minor pout formed on her lips and she continued on toward her destination, which was the town itself. She had her cane though she wasn't using it all that much. It was easier just to stay on the road, which was better cleared than the land around it. Thankfully, it made it harder to get lost.

He still wasn't with her again when she made it to town an hour later. Dione was starting to worry. It wasn't like him to just disappear on her in the middle of a conversation.

For all that it was cold, she didn't seem to be in any hurry to arrive at her destination. In fact, she was waiting for her brother to come back from where he went to in order to get away from her. Instead she just walked through the town, waiting for him to speak to her again.

"Dex, say something." The few others around looked at her with confusion, good thing she didn't see that. After all, she'd have been bothered by being stared at just like always.

OOC: Italics = French; Dexter cannot be heard by most characters.

"Who are you talking to," Dante said. He had noticed Dione wandering through the town as if she were looking for someone, an odd act considering that the girl was blind. The werewolf had been following her for a while now, watching her carefully as the crowd made sure to get out of her way. Some people had been giving her strange looks, ones that immediately stopped when he glared at them in return.

He was standing beside her now, his voice gentle and curious. He hadn't spoken with her for several days now, but he had been watching her. Quiet footsteps that sometimes followed her to the wine bar, or her bungalow. He did the same thing with one or two other girls, too; so good was he at his game that no one ever noticed him lurking around dark corners.

Dante reached up a hand to touch Dione's arm lightly. Though she had responded positively the last time they were together the werewolf was still taking careful steps with the blind medium. "Are you waiting for someone in particular, or can I steal you away for a little bit?" Dante was trying his hand at being playful with the hopes that Dione would respond to it.

"Dexter," he asked, she answered. Whether the answer made any sense at all to him was completely up to how much he truly believed that her brother haunted her on a regular basis. "He's gone and done his disappearing act again." It sounded as if she were speaking about a lost puppy, which in her irritation, she could actually have justified. Dante had heard her speak of her brother previously, actually in their first meeting she mentioned the ghost. "I hate it when he does that."

How could she know if anyone pulled a disappearing act when she was blind?

When he touched her arm, she automatically moved to put her free hand over it. "Can't really wait on him. Might freeze before he comes back." Yes, she was frustrated with her twin at the moment. Then she seemed to remember something that caused a slight downturn in her lips, an unappealing expression on her face undoubtedly. "I wanted to talk to you about something."

Hayate had told her not to tell Dante anything about what he said; however, Dione was certain that this was something that could be fixed if people just made a point of being open about things. Therefore, keeping secrets wouldn't help anything.

Dione spoke as if Dante had been there with her the entire time. His sudden appearance didn't even startle her, a reaction that Dante didn't expect. He brushed his surprise aside, and listened to her speak about Dexter. He remembered her speaking the name before, but he couldn't quite remember who he was in relation to Dione. It didn't matter now since he obviously wasn't there. "He shouldn't have left you alone," Dante said calmly.

Her hand was warm despite the chill in the air, and a devilish grin formed on his lips. He let out a small laugh when she responded to his question, and shook his head. "Freezing wouldn't be a good idea," he said in amusement. Dante began to lead her toward the café where they could get something to warm up their cold bodies, though he paused the moment she said she wanted to talk to him about something. This wouldn't have bothered Dante as much as it had if it weren't for the unhappy look on her face.

"We can talk all you want about anything you want once we're inside," he said pleasantly, a stark contrast to the sudden upsurge of anger he was feeling. What could they possibly talk about that would cause her to frown in such a way? The werewolf was jumping to conclusions, very bad conclusions, but forced himself to remain calm for appearance purposes. He was curious as to what was on Dione's mind, and he was determined to find out.

Once he spoke, she reacted to him as if he had been there because she was too distracted by Dexter being gone to notice that she hadn't heard his approach. She didn't really want to talk about Dexter at the moment though. Her mind was stuck on the words that Hayate told her. Dante as a stalker, harasser, one who sought to injure others.

She was not safe with him. Thankfully, she did not notice the anger in him at the fact that she had allowed a frown to pass over her lips.

"Of course," she agreed immediately following his lead. "It's nothing important, I suppose, just something I was told." Which could mean a lot if only she understood what was really going on. "I mean...." she was trying to find the words to explain what was more and more seeming silly. After all, she didn't know the name of the girl he was supposedly harrassing and she only had Hayate's word that such a thing had even happened.

Shaking her head, Dione decided to do something unexpected. Seriously unexpected since it was a fairly intimate gesture. Leaning up, she seemed like she might kiss his face, instead she whispered.

"Hayate told me that I'm not safe with you. That you're stalking people like some kind of monster." She hadn't wanted anyone else to hear her say such a thing, especially if it was untrue. The color that came to her cheeks made it seem as if she had just admitted she was thinking about him in an inappropriate way. It was mostly just because she was afraid he was going to be upset with what he heard. It wasn't her fault, but she was the messenger and people killed the messenger all the time. There wouldn't be an expression telling you not to if they didn't.

Dante was only patient when it served him a purpose, and thankfully for Dione he had not yet reached the end of that patience with her. The werewolf listened to her trying to speak the words that would properly convey what was on her mind. Apparently, someone had told her something and that thought alone put Dante on the defensive. There were only a handful of people that knew him "well" enough to say something about him, and the only person in that group who would seek to ruin his reputation was a vampire who was as deceptive as he was.

He gritted his teeth, and barely noticed the seemingly intimate gesture of Dione craning her head upward to whisper to him. He did notice the warmth of her cheek, though, and it brought some semblance of peace to him before she spoke his name.

Hayate.

His mind roared the name like a crazed animal. The darkness clawed at every inch of him from the inside out, and in that moment he wanted to race over to the vampire's house and rip him to shreds. It took every ounce of strength to restrain himself, and to remain calm in front of Dione. He would deal with Hayate later; for now, he had to restore Dione's faith in him.

"He said what?" Dante sounded absolutely shocked, and maybe a little hurt that anyone would accuse him of such a thing. He sighed to show that hurt further, and then shook his head even though Dione couldn't see that gesture. "I can't believe that man..." he continued. He took the blind woman to a nearby bench, and set her down upon it so they could talk about the issue properly.

"Hayate... well-" he sighed again. "He doesn't like me very much." Dante turned to face Dione and reached down to hold her hands gently in his. He purposefully made their knees touch, as touch was such an important action with those who were blind. "I met Hayate when I first arrived here. He was nice - then. I found out that he was seeing this girl, but then one night I saw him at the wine bar kissing someone else - a male someone else. It wasn't any of my business, you know, but I felt sorry for the girl he was seeing." His thumbs ran over Dione's smooth skin as he kept his anger in check.

"When I saw him next, I confronted him about it. Told him it wasn't right. I said I would tell the girl. He got angry at me, and threatened me." Dante sighed again, and squeezed Dione's hands. "I'm sorry that he brought you into this. I don't know why he did, but I guess it was just to get back at me. Try to ruin my relationship with you."

Dante was already plotting the best way to get back at Hayate. He supposed that the vampire talked to Dione as vengeance for what Dante did with Chris, but they had agreed to not play with the other's toys. If Hayate was going to break that agreement, then Dante had no reason to keep his end of the bargain.

Dione immediately felt guilty for bringing him the thought at all. Even if Dante deserved to know someone was saying things about him, it still made her feel awkward to have it be her who had the duty to tell him. Still it was easy to follow along and be there with him while he explained to her what was going on and how she'd managed to get herself in between two men she barely knew, but did like. One as a friend, one as more than that.

It felt comfortable to hold hands with him and it made her feel less guilty as he explained because she had done right telling the truth. The fact that she wasn't keeping secrets made her feel better. And he wasn't mad at her, a major plus.

So it really was all over a girl. It made it all that much easier to believe what she was told, the fact that it followed along with what she already thought. Hayate was trying to hide his behavior from his girlfriend and because Dante called him on it, that made them enemies. Dione didn't know if that was typical or not, but it certainly didn't seem all that different from things she's heard on television over the years. Jealousy and infidelity were the primary killers of relationships. Oh, and money. Also money...though she wasn't exactly sure how that worked out. Not having enough happened a lot, but also there was too much...it all made things very weird. Now was not the time to be making heads or tails of why relationships failed.

"He said I shouldn't say anything about it to you, but that's not right." Might as well tell the whole thing now. "Not to stay away from you, but to be careful around you because it's not safe. I thought it was only right to say something to you." Dione was only doing what was right and proper. A person should know when they were being talked about in a negative way. Especially in the kind of way that painted them as some kind of crazed stalker.

bring out that paddle again

Dione might have felt guilt, but the only thing that Dante was feeling was anger and searing hate. Not for the woman in his company, but for Hayate. That no good, little piece of shit. Dante had killed women twice his size, and better looking to boot. He glanced over at Dione, a sense of pride washing over him as he looked at her. She chose to be honest with him instead of heeding Hayate's warning.

"He's just trying to put a wedge between us," Dante said to her softly, evoking a disappointed tone. "And a person like him would say anything to make that happen. I mean, my God! He's cheating on his girlfriend!" He huffed in disbelief, a sound that said he disagreed with infidelity. Dante squeezed Dione's hand gently, and slowly raised it to his lips to press a kiss to her knuckles. She would no doubt blush because of it. "I'm glad you told me," he said softly. "And I'm glad that we were able to talk about it."

He had staved off Dione's suspicions for the time being, but he wasn't sure what Hayate would tell Dione when he next saw her. Dante wouldn't tell her to stay away from the vampire; if Hayate chose to approach Dione again with the same words it would only make him look bad. "Dione... thank you for trusting me," he said after the short silence.

Drive a wedge between them made it seem as if there were something there to drive apart. That was something she hadn't really expected, wanted, didn't expect. Dione was a complete child when it came to relationships. She'd never had one, didn't have the faintest idea how to pursue them, and while so far her general morality had led her in a workable direction, there were still minefields she hadn't even begun to traverse. So far she had been lucky, how much longer her luck would hold out was a whole different question.

The brush of his lips along her knuckles did make her blush a little. Dione adored him truthfully and if she could fix her mouth to actually say something in response, she would have been doing quite well.

"I just wanted to do what was right by you," it minimized her actual involvement in the whole thing to a degree, but that was because Dione hardly knew what to do with all the attention he gave her. "I'd hate to see you get in a trouble for something not your fault. I like you."

The last part was tacked on, almost unconsciously and she seemed to look down at the awareness she said such a thing. At least she'd managed not to turn the color of a tomato, just flushed the chill roses at her cheeks already. However, she did start to hide in her hair, a characteristic reaction whenever she felt out of sorts with a situation. At least Dione hadn't reverted to stuttering and apologizing.

Dante was entering dangerous territory with Dione. What started as something to bide his time was turning into much more. He didn't know what it was exactly, nor was he really aware of it. His thoughts, however, were becoming more than just idle play, and Dione was rising to a pedestal that nearly matched hers. Those that did had a chance of survival, but at a price.

He noticed the blush on her cheeks, delighting in its color. He never imagined that the girl adored him, though her words did give him a clue. His lips twitched into something that resembled a smile, though it was merely morbid satisfaction at having fooled the girl so well. "I like you, too," he said. The voice in his head was laughing out loud in triumph. If it had a corporeal form it would have danced around like a devil, with a tail and matching horns to boot. "How can I get into trouble when I've got you as my guardian angel?"

His words were empty, laced with nothing but sugary goodness to make it sound appealing. The girl wouldn't know any better, not unless someone warned her. Someone other than Hayate. "We should head inside," he said. Dante tugged on her hand to get her to stand. "Unless you want my butt to freeze on that bench." He was being playful, something to take the girl's mind away from Hayate and his lies.

wrap up?

Dione would hardly consider herself a guardian angel. After all, angels weren't blind, they couldn't be. There was no blindness, deafness, muteness, no difference in heaven. Everyone was as they should be, perfect.

He was being playful toward her, not really blaming her for anything, though Dione did immediately accept it as her fault. She came along when drawn toward him, automatically moving to follow along. He liked her, that was enough to make it okay despite her usual distaste for feeling like someone was pulling her.

Dexter watched them from a distance, telling himself it was just the dislike for sharing which made him uneasy about Dante now. That was all it was. He didn't like this guy taking his place, no matter how logical it was or how necessary. It felt wrong. He kept his nonexistent mouth shut and watched them go. It was unlikely that he would discuss any of it with Dione herself as he didn't want to upset her, alarm her, or make her feel as if she shouldn't be reaching out to others. However, he'd have been lying if he said he was okay with this whole thing. He watched them go, hands in his pocket, untouched by the cold as only someone who is already dead could be.
