Who: Adrienne and Zach
When: Around 1 PM
Where: Fields and Hills Northwest of Helicharis
What: Playing in the snow

Though it had been a day or two since the snow had fallen, it still looked fresh in the fields that surrounded Helicharis. Adrienne hadn't seen such pure snow since she visited the Rocky Mountain area when she was a kid; the snow that Chicago received would be turned into grey slush as soon as the morning commute came around. Even in the less populated areas of the city, the snow that accumulated was never as fresh looking as this.

The werewolf had convinced Zach to join her for some fun in the snow. The dark-haired girl dressed warmly in the jacket that Zach had gotten her for her birthday, along with a scarf, hat, boots, and gloves. She also brought along a sled (one that she picked up at the woodshapers) with the hope that they would find a hill they could slide down. The snow invigorated the girl, and she was practically bouncing through the fields despite the fact that the snow almost reached her knees.

"C'mon, Zach!" She called out to her boyfriend when they reached an area that had a few trees and bushes in the vicinity. It wasn't a spot where they could go sledding, but the lycanthrope was confident that they would find a hill soon. Adrienne looked over her shoulder for Zach only to find that her boyfriend was no where in sight. She stopped in her tracks and let the sled down onto the ground. "Zach?" She called out again wondering where in the world he could have gone.

The snow had stopped falling from the sky, but a thick, white blanket covered the land as far as Zach’s eyes could see ahead of them. Evergreen trees held in their grip white puffs over all of the branches, beckoning them to play in the wonderland of snow. It had been a long time since Zach had seen snow with his own two eyes; in fact, the last time he saw it and played in it, he had just met Adrienne and they were going on a tour of a school’s grounds. They wandered out far and found a cave, and he remembered the day very clearly.

Adrienne had brought a sled with her, but Zach had other ideas in mind at first. He spotted a mound of snow nearby as they walked along, and Zach began to trail behind Adrienne. Finally, he dashed behind the white mound and out of sight, grinning to himself as he scooped up a pile of snow into his gloved hands and mashed it together to form a big snowball. He bit onto his bottom lip to prevent himself from laughing or saying anything, sitting as still as he could manage as he waited for Adrienne to call out to him.

Zach fought back a snicker as she called out his name at last, and with a devious spark taking a hold of the boy, he launched up from his position behind the mound that offered him protection and threw the snowball straight at his girlfriend. It hit her right in the face, and Zach burst out laughing as he ran over to the next mound he could find, ducking behind it for shelter.

“Zach: 1!” he called out victoriously from his battleground. “Adrienne: 0!”

Adrienne remembered their first non-official date at the school. She was showing him around the grounds, racing around in the snow and exploring the forest. The cave they discovered was the first place she had seen Zach use his abilities. He transformed some mineral into yellow sapphire, the same yellow sapphire that hung around Adrienne's neck at all times.

Their outing did remind her of the time they first met, but they weren't exploring the forest or going spelunking any time soon. The werewolf wanted to go sledding, but it seemed as if her boyfriend had other ideas. Adrienne should have suspected that Zach was up to something the moment he disappeared, but the possibility didn't even hit her until a snowball hit her right in the face.

It shattered upon impact, white crystals flying around while and sticking to the girl's eyebrows and lashes. It sprinkled over her scarf and the rim of her hat. Adrienne was silent for several seconds as she left the snow fall from her face. Her features twisted, nose wrinkling and brow furrowing before she opened one eye. Though she couldn't see Zach, she could hear his riotous laughter and voice from behind a mound.

The lycan brushed the snow from her face as she let out a playful growl. "Ooooh, Zach!" She practically squealed before she knelt down to scoop up some snow. If he wanted a snowball fight then she was going to give him a snowball fight. "You are so going to pay for that!" She called out loud as she created another snowball. She held one in each hand as she stalked toward the mounds. "Come out, come out, wherever you are!" There was a broad smile drawn over her lips, and a mischievous glint in her eyes. She wouldn't let Zach get her again, and when she thought she caught sight of him she let one of her snowballs fly in that direction.

Zach peeked over his mound to see where Adrienne was on the battleground, and his eyes spotted her only for a brief moment before Adrienne threw the snowball in his direction. Ducking as quickly as possible, the snowball impacted with the top of Zach's hat and he felt it. Zach cringed at the close call. She almost got him with that one, but he couldn't help the childish grin that suddenly swept over his face. It had been a very long time since he had participated in a proper snowball fight, and the exhilaration he felt at the prospect was tremendous.

"Not quite, Adrienne!" Zach called out with a laugh, bending over and scooping up more snow into his palms. He squashed it into a round shape in his hands. Taunting her was not a good idea, but Zach couldn't prevent himself from indulging in it. It was likely to get him a snowball right in the face like she had gotten from him, but Zach wasn't going to think about that just yet. "You're going to have to do better than that!"

Suddenly, he launched up from his hiding place, throwing the snowball in his grip towards Adrienne. Zach immediately ran for the nearest mound he had spotted across the distance. He didn't stop long enough to see whether or not the snowball had hit her; he just kept running. Adrienne would have to have time to make a new weapon before she could hit him with anything new, so Zach felt safe running the short distance and ducking behind a new snow mound.

"Nyah-nyah, nyah-nyah, nyah, nyaaah!" Zach taunted further, having safely reached his new hiding place. He was laughing heartily now, not even trying to conceal his position in case she hadn't seen him scoot behind it.

Adrienne almost got him with the snowball she threw, but it only hit the top of his hat. She cursed under her breath, and quickly ducked behind a nearby pile of snow that would serve as her first base. She was already forming a battle plan in her head, one that would ensure her victory. Adrienne had plenty of experience in the realm of snowball fights since she had engaged in plenty of them growing up, and there was no way she was going to lose to Zach. It didn't even matter if he was her boyfriend, he was going down.

She started to collect the snowballs she was making, forming piles of them behind her first base. A ready supply of ammunition was the first key to winning a snowball fight. The second was to have more than one base. Adrienne cradled a few snowballs against her body before dashed toward another pile of snow. Zach had started to run for another mound, too, and he threw a snowball at her. Adrienne retaliated with a few shots of her own, all of them missing the target since he had already taken cover.

The werewolf claimed another base for herself, forming more piles of ammunition in her fight against Zach. Her heart was racing in her chest from the excitement of the situation, as well as the fear of getting pummeled by snowballs. She couldn't lose to Zach; Adrienne's competitive streak wasn't going to let her. The girl peeked up from her mound and searched for another place to take cover. She spotted a dense bush a short distance away, and quickly made a dash for it. There, she created another pile of snowballs to use against her boyfriend. His taunting only made her more determined than ever to win.

"You think you can hide from me, Zach?" Adrienne said in a wicked, yet playful tone. "Did you forget that I'm a werewolf? I can smell out your hiding place," she said. A smirk curled upon her lips as she lifted her nose to the air. There was a faint hint of Zach coming from behind one of the snow mounds not too far from her position. Being so close to the full moon made Adrienne's senses that much more sensitive, and while she wasn't positive on his location she knew what direction to start looking.

"I'm going to get you," she said in a sing-song voice. Adrienne cradled more snowballs in her arm as it pressed against her body, while one hand was held at the ready. She headed in the direction of Zach's scent, throwing a snowball in the area to see if she could spook him from his hiding spot. Once he emerged she'd pelt him with her snowballs, that is, if he didn't get her first.

Zach heard the snowballs hitting his mound, and his laughter started to cease. Adrienne meant business. Well, if she was going to take this battle seriously, then he had to as well if he wanted any chances of winning this snowball fight. Zach leaned forward and started scooping up snow in his hands and patting them into balls, stacking them against the wall of his mound when they were finished. He created a fine amount of snowballs before he stopped packing ammunition and prepared for an attack. If Adrienne wanted war, then she was getting a war.

Looking carefully over the edge of his mound from the side, Zach scanned the battlefield for any sign of Adrienne leaving her hiding place. It was his great fortune that she decided to leave her mound and make a dash for an evergreen bush. Zach grinned wildly to himself, crisp, white snowball in hand, and launched the projectile from his grasp right for Adrienne. It hit her smack in the arm, shattering into a bunch of white snow.

“YEAH!” Zach cheered, immediately grabbing for another premade snowball and chucking it in her direction. This one, however, missed its target and collided into the snow somewhere behind Adrienne. Zach swore underneath his breath and hid back behind his mound. Adrienne’s taunt about how she could sniff him out made Zach laugh in retaliation, but inside he was slightly worried about her advantage.

“You can try,” Zach taunted her back, secretly anxious that she might actually be able to smell him out. That wasn’t good. “Zach: Two! Adrienne: A half!” Zach snickered quietly to himself. “That’s all that points you get for scraping the top of my hat!”

Zach saw a snowball hit the ground somewhere nearby and decided to scoop some into his arms and make a dash for it. Adrienne wouldn’t get him if he threw snowballs at her and ran at the same time. Suddenly, he jumped up from his hiding place and spotted Adrienne, throwing two snowballs in succession at her long enough to try and distract her until he skidded behind a large bush himself.

Oh it was war, all right, especially after he hit her again with another snowball. Adrienne didn't like losing, especially when she knew she could win. She was just making stupid mistakes, though now she was determined to not make any more. She normally didn't like to use her senses to her advantage, but this was a situation that called for it.

Zach sprung from his hiding spot, throwing snowballs at her in distraction. She dodged them easily since she saw them coming, and she threw her snowballs in retaliation, one hitting him on the side of his thigh before he skidded behind the bush. Adrienne whooped in triumph and then ducked behind another mound of snow. "That's just the beginning," she yelled to him while laughing.

Adrienne had enough of throwing snowballs and dodging them. She was going to go after Zach with full force, and with that thought in mind she dashed from her base and made a bee-line for the bush that Zach was hiding behind. She dodged whatever snowballs came flying toward her, and it was very clear that she was going to chase Zach down. Tackling was much more fun anyway, and once she had Zach in her grasp she would cover him in snow.

Zach laughed heartily out in the open, even after Adrienne nailed him one on the thigh as he dashed to take cover behind an evergreen bush. It was too much fun. He lay sprawled out on his back behind the large bushes for a while, just staring up at the sky and chuckling to himself. Finally, he moved to sit up and brush the snow off of his body. When he glanced over the bushes, he noticed Adrienne coming straight for him. Zach’s eyes went wide, and he dove to make a quick snowball or two, throwing them at Adrienne as she ran towards him.

One of the snowballs missed her completely because she somehow managed to dodge it, but the other one hit her once again. He would have called out his third point if it hadn’t been for the fact that it looked like Adrienne was about to leap over the bushes and tackle him. Zach ducked and hid himself, not even attempting to run away from her, as Adrienne made it onto his side of the bush. It wasn’t like he could really hide, but he wasn’t going to make too much of an effort to get away either.

Adrienne barely noticed the second snowball that hit her on the lower part of her jacket. It shattered into fine crystals that Adrienne attributed to the snow she was kicking up as she ran. She was closing the distance between Zach and herself, noticing that her boyfriend didn't even try to run away from her. It was no fun making it easy, but a win was a win and Adrienne would take it.

Once she was in tackling distance, Adrienne launched herself at her boyfriend and pulled him down into the snow. "I've got you now!" She said out loud as she rolled him onto his back so she could straddle his waist. She reached for his hands and pulled them toward her, holding them in place securely. She was using her werewolf strength to her advantage, something she rarely did with Zach, but she wanted to win this "fight". The lycanthrope smirked down at her victim, releasing his hands quickly so she could scoop snow onto him.

"Take that! And this!" She said as she threw snow all over Zach. "This counts for like... fifty snowballs! So I win!" She was laughing out loud, and having too much fun with her boyfriend. The coup de grâce, however, was when Adrienne formed a bigger than normal snowball and put it underneath Zach's jacket and layers of clothing. There was nothing like cold snow against hot skin. She was laughing wildly now, and her defenses were down. Adrienne had won the battle in her mind, forgetting entirely that Zach had yet to retaliate.

Since Zach wasn't really trying to escape, he wasn't really surprised when she nabbed him either. Still, he let out a shocked "Ah!" and toppled over into the snow when Adrienne jumped him. Zach tried to curl up into a protective ball to hide himself from her, but Adrienne got him off of his stomach and rolled him onto his back, straddling his waist. Zach fought off his out fit of laughter while trying to shield himself from whatever she was prepared to do to him in retaliation, but Adrienne snatched up his hands as well.

He was partially afraid of his fate, but mostly losing breath quickly because of his inability to stop laughing. It came to a point where he was just laying loose in the snow beneath her, breathing heavily and slowly through his mouth as he looked up at her with glittering eyes and a sore jaw.

Suddenly, she released his hands and pummeled him with freezing cold snow. Not only was he lying in it, but now he was covered in it, too. Zach yelled in protest, squirming underneath her, but never quite getting away despite his attempts. "OH MY GOD — STOP — STOP! IT'S COLD! IT'S COLD!" he cried, but Adrienne wasn't listening to him. Then, she did the meanest thing ever: she gathered up a bunch of snow and stuffed it up his jacket and clothes.

Zach finally squealed like a little girl at the chill, and it prompted him to immediately take action. The low move by Adrienne just begged for a revenge move from Zach, and Zach launched up to tackle her sideways into the snow, rolling Adrienne onto her stomach as he scooped up a huge snowball and stuffed it into Adrienne's pants from behind.

"Take that!" Zach said in exhileration, and he shook out the ice from beneath his sweater while Adrienne was too busy squealing at the cold ice in her britches.

There was nothing like an old fashioned snowball fight that ended in a dog pile free-for-all. While this wasn't so much a pile than a tumble in the snow, Zach and Adrienne's snowball fight had lost all strategy as each person tried to best the other in inappropriate. Snow up shirts and down pants - nothing was off limits now.

Adrienne screamed out loud when the snow touched her skin, a result of Zach's revenge. She had tried to get away from him before he could do anything, but his tackle caught her off guard, and her riotous laughter before hand had sapped away her strength. "ZACH!" She squealed while jumping to her feet, her hand shoved down the back of her pants to get at the ice and snow. "OH MY GOD!" She said while hopping around. "It's so cold!" She stopped jumping around long enough to look at Zach. He was still trying to get all the ice out of his sweater, and she couldn't help but giggle a little. They were acting like little kids, but at least they had fun.

"Truce?" Adrienne said finally. She made her way over toward him, and wrapped her arms around his neck. She batted her eyes at him, and smiled sweetly. "I don't think we'd be able to handle any more cold anyway."

Particularly fond of his winning last trick on Adrienne, Zach smirked as she hopped around and tried to get the snow out of her pants even as he was shaking it out of his shirt. Once he was done, or had gotten out as much as he was going to get out, Zach pumped one fist into the air and cheered for himself. "I win!" he declared to an imaginary crowd. "Thank you, thank you . . . " Zach bowed at the mounds of snow on the ground and the white tufts sitting upon the trees and brush. "I'll be here all day!" Zach called out to a fake crowd of adoring fans, throwing both arms into the air.

A warrior such as himself would have declined a truce, but Adrienne's arms went around his neck and he figured he could concede for just this once. "Maybe," Zach said with false guard, narrowing his eyes. Still, a smile decorated his lips. "True," he said thoughtfully. "You'll probably freeze to death, and I'll be devastated at the loss of my one true love to the icy, cold depths of . . . where are we again?"

Zach lost the acting voice and glanced around their surroundings, especially since he had forgotten where they were in Elysium. "Okay, I know we went North, but where did we end up? Because I don't recognize anything. It's just a bunch of trees and . . . " Zach turned around to face an opposite direction to see what was there. "More trees." He faced another direction. "Yeah, lots of trees."

Zach turned to look at Adrienne, a big grin forming on his face, as he tugged down on his hat to straighten it. "We must be in Treeville."

Adrienne could let Zach win their fight even though he would have never thought to put snow down her pants if she hadn't put it up his shirt first. Still, stroking her boyfriend's ego wasn't a big deal to Adrienne especially since he didn't get carried away with it.

She tilted her head to the side, humming a little under her breath as she waited for his answer. She smiled a bit, inching closer to him to press a quick kiss to his lips. "Losing your one true love would be terrible," she said with a nod. "Since I am pretty awesome." She kissed him again, and rubbed her nose against his before he looked at their surroundings.

They were practically surrounded by trees; their battlefield was the only place that was barren with the exception of a few bushes. And somewhere in Treeville's clearing was the sled that Adrienne had brought along, though where she dropped it was unknown. "Wanna stay in Treeville for a little more? We have to find my sled, and then maybe we can go sledding?" She had wanted to do that in the beginning before they began to throw snowballs at one another. She wanted to spend more time with him anyway, and sledding was the perfect way to do it.

Zach took Adrienne's mitten hand into his gloved one after her kiss, a playful look about him. "Yes," he admitted, "I don't know how I'll live without my Italian werewolf princess with me." If he had said that in a serious tone, some crowd might have shown up from behind the grove of trees and stoned him for being an utter imbecile. Luckily, they were in the middle of nowhere and he was clearly just trying to be silly.

Not only had it been a long time since he had proper snowball fight, but it had also been a long time since he'd gone sledding. Catching a glimpse of the discarded sled from the corner of his eyes, a mischievous grin stole over his expression. Suddenly, Zach raced off towards the sled before Adrienne. The snowball fight had obviously put him into a childish mood. Nothing was sacred. "I'll beat you to it!" Zach called out, hurrying fast down a white slope ahead of her.

Zach was good at being silly, and his 'Italian werewolf princess' line was all the proof she needed for that. She giggled a bit, but played along by holding her free hand to her heart and sighing. "My Alaskan alchemist prince is my only reason for living," she said dramatically. "Even if he does say cheesy things and stuffs my pants with snow." Her nose wrinkled as she laughed, clearly enjoying her time with Zach.

His childish mood was infectious though, and as soon as he took off toward the sled Adrienne was on his heels. "You think you can outrun a werewolf?" She said from behind. She had already caught up to him, and would pass him after a few seconds. The sled was in sight, and Adrienne pushed forward. She slapped Zach's butt playfully as she passed him, and winked at him before she went after the sled. Adrienne dove for it when she was close enough, grabbing its rope before she fell into the snow beside it.

Adrienne smirked in triumph. It was her turn to win something, especially since Zach already won the snowball fight.

Zach made a face at Adrienne by scrunching his nose. "You know you love it," he said, referring to him saying cheesy things and stuffing her pants with snow. They might as well have been kids on a playground in elementary school, name-calling and pulling pigtails because they liked each other but they just couldn't admit it.

As he made a dash for the sled, he had hoped he could outrun Adrienne with a slight head start, but Adrienne was just as adamant as him and wasn't going to let him get away with beating her so easily. It was a fun aspect of their relationship, the butting of egos and heads, and the challenge they brought to each other. Zach tried to hide his surprise as she slapped his butt, and then Adrienne was ahead of him and he pushed harder to race faster than her.

Adrienne beat him by the smallest of fractions, diving onto the sled as he skidded to a halt to prevent falling on top of her. "Not fair!" Zach yelled, hopping onto the sled as Adrienne lay in the snow beside it. He stuck out his tongue. "I still get first riding dibs," he announced, standing proudly on top of the wooden sled.

The competitive nature that Zach and Adrienne shared added flare to their relationship. They weren't trying to prove anything with each challenge, either. Adrienne never claimed to be better than Zach, and Zach certainly didn't claim the opposite. Besides, Adrienne wasn't the type of girl who needed to be doted upon or allowed to win in competitions. She enjoyed the challenges, and a man who could give her that was that much more attractive in her eyes.

Adrienne stayed lying in the snow even as Zach hopped onto the sled. She stuck out her tongue just as he did, rolling her eyes as he called first dibs. "Nuh-Uh!" She said suddenly, jumping to her feet so she could stand on the sled, too. "I brought the sled so I get first dibs!" She huffed dramatically, though she was clearly amused. "Besides! Don't you want to share! I mean, we can both sit on it! Unless... unless you don't love me enough to share with me." Adrienne sniffled, and began to pout. She wasn't above guilt tripping her boyfriend, but only when they were being playful.

Zach smirked as Adrienne hopped onto the sled after him, refuting his claim to get first dibs on the sled. He crossed his arms and pursed his lips, appearing to be deep in thought about her proposal when he really wasn't, and gave it a pause as if needing to consider it. "Hmm," Zach hummed to himself, raising a hand to tap his chin with a gloved finger that was dark blue in color. "I'll have to think about that," he told her, even as she pretended to be upset about the possibility of him denying her. Zach didn't hold out for much longer, though, a grin overcoming his face as his hands fell down to his sides.

"If two can fit, two can ride," Zach said, plopping down at the front of the sled. This particular tract of land did not have a steep slope, but it curved downward just enough for their first ride out on the snow. It ended with a flat space of land before the end curved upward again just marginally. He tilted his head backward to look up at Adrienne. "Since you're the super strong one, I'll leave the pushing up to you." Zach flashed her a toothy grin and looked ahead once more. "Full speed ahead!" he shouted out at the empty land below.

Their playful banter came to an end when Zach relented. Adrienne knew he couldn't resist her, not that he had any intention to in the first place, but it was fun playing it out. It was a form of flirtation, one that kept their relationship fun.

Zach took the driving position, and leaned backward to talk with Adrienne. She couldn't help but laugh at him a little, her head shaking in the process. "I'm not that strong," she protested even though she knew that she was. Her hands gripped onto the back of the sled, and she began to rock back and forth to gain some momentum before she pushed forward with all her might. Her feet dug into the snow, leaving nothing but a trail of white powder behind her as she ran. Adrienne jumped onto the sled just as they reached the beginning of the slope, wrapping her legs and arms around Zach tightly before they descended. She buried her face into his back, giggling happily all the while.

The couple made their way home after a few more trips down the hill. It was the perfect ending to their day, and Adrienne was already looking forward to their next adventure in the snow.
