Who: Mitsuko and Kayo
When: Evening
Where: Kayo's cottage
What: Lessons in Kitsune covertness

Italics=Japanese

Over the past few weeks, Mitsuko had spent quite a bit of time with Kayo, learning how to hide her ears and tail. While they mostly focused on their lessons, it was also nice to simply have another Kitsune to be around. Mitsuko didn't realize how much she missed the company of her kin. There had been a few Kitsune she'd liked back when she'd been with her clan. She's tried not to think about it too much over the years. But when she'd started hanging out with Shigeru, she'd thought about it. When he'd disappeared... She hoped Kayo would stick around.

Mitsuko opened the door to Kayo's cottage. She'd never been much on knocking. She had a small bag of cookies from the cafe. She hadn't worked today, but she'd stopped by. Kayo came into the cafe a lot and it was the least she could do to thank the girl.

"Hello?" Mitsuko called out. "Kayo-chan? You in? I'm here for lessons."

"Is that all I am good for~" Kayo jokingly replied as she poked her head out from the bathroom from grooming her tail. She quickly spotted the bag of cookies, a small perk of the ears indicating appreciation. But it was always fun to see Mitsuko. Her personality excited Kayo since she was never as forward or daring. Actually she had never seen such a Kitsune before. Simply put, Kayo was fascinated. And she always looked forward to teaching Mitsuko new tricks. The other Kitsune girl was a very quick learner.

Over the past few times they have met, Kayo simply had Mitsuko focusing on keeping her ears and tails hidden without doing anything else. It was a skill that needed to be ingrained into memory to the point where Mitsuko wouldn't need to think about it as soon as she decided to hide her fox characteristics. Of course Kayo did not sit back and watch, she also joined Mitsuko in the exercises she made. It was good habit to keep her own powers in check and making sure they did not deteriorate from the lack of use. Kayo had found that ever since she came to Elysium she had no real need to hide her ears and tail. She realized that over time she would become sloppy. Since her entire life were based on these skills, the Kitsune girl certainly did not want to be anywhere near sloppy.

"Have you been practicing at home Mi-chan?"

Mitsuko giggled and beamed at Kayo. "I'm sure you're good for a great many things, Kayo-chan." She sauntered to the other Kitsune and gave her a flirtatious look. "I just need to find out what." She held out the cookies to Kayo. "Thank you kindly for the help, Kayo-chan."

She had been practicing on her own. Every once and a while, she would try to hide her ears and tail for an hour or so. It was draining, but she was managing. "Yeah," Mitsuko said with a nod. "But it gives me a bit of a headache if I try for too long. It also feels weird... I like... Feel them even when they're not there."

She put a hand to rub her tail gently. "How do you get used to it? Them just... Not being there?"

"I appreciate the cookies very much Mi-chan" Kayo thanked, returning Mitsuko's gaze, eye to eye, with a grin. She subtly stroked the other girl's hands as she took the cookies, and stashed them in her cabinet. It was nice living alone, she thought, there was no need to worry about other clan members getting a hold of her treats. The Kitsune girl took note of Mitsuko's self training. "If you are getting headaches, try to do it in shorter times until you're very comfortable. It's like exercising...starting slow and building up."

Kayo's tail swayed towards the other Kitsune girl's, admiring the pure white fur. Listening to Mitsuko's question, she contemplated about her answer, never realizing that she had never thought about it. "It was my job." she replied. "I spied on humans everyday to see what they were up to and reporedt back. Can't really have these..." she flicked her ears, "hanging around if you're around humans"

She paused, looking at Mitsuko for a moment. "I heard that you liked humans too?" Kayo ventured to say.

Mitsuko smiled sweetly at Kayo as she took the cookies. "It's the least I could do. Thank you so much for doing this, Kayo-chan. It means... So much." She smiled. "As much as I love my ears, it would be really great to be able to move a little freer. And the tail... Well, it messes up the line of my skirts." She nodded at Kayo's suggestion. "Thanks. I'll do that. Why is hiding our ears and tail so much harder than other transformations? I mean, I can change the look of my entire body.

She smiled slightly as she revealed her past profession. "You were a scout for your clan." She nodded. "We had those in the Tenko clan to. But..." She looked down. "I didn't qualify. I was supposed to take over the clan, so they didn't want me to... Be...</i>" She struggled to come up with the words. "Tainted."

She sat down on the kitchen table and sighed deeply, nodding. "Yeah. I was. I ran away when I was fourteen and went to Tokyo. I went back briefly, but... Yeah... I liked it better. It was... Liberating. It's not that I don't like Kitsune. I mean, being around you is great. But.... So much was expected of me from my clan."

"I definitely second about the tail messing up the line of our skirts" Kayo agreed while preparing tea at the same time. "Other transformations such as changing the color of your eyes, style of your hair, or the curves on your body is like putting on make up. It's something that can be easily put on and taken off" she explained. "But our ears and tails are core extensions of us. I've even heard that is the source of our magic. If that's the case, it would make it that much harder to hide them..." Kayo's expression softened as she heard a bit more about Mitsuko. She could not have imagined at all of what it was like to have such great expectations. And to even say that the job of a scout would lead to being tainted, she felt a bit crossed since she was very proud of her former job.

"None the less...a clan is like a family, a very strong family. And I know despite of my status, the bond between me and my clan can not be broken" Kayo continued, pouring tea for the both of them, "I ran away too, but not as young as when you did, I was around twenty-three at the time. But think about it a lot, whether it was worth it or why I even did so in the first place. When the Pandora virus broke out....my clan had left, but my little brother was waiting for me."

A small and sad laugh came forth from Kayo. "He's around nine. But even a child at such a young age could understand that type of bond." She sipped on her tea, which relaxed her. The girl wasn't sure why she was speaking so much, but she felt an emotional weight lift off her shoulders as she did. "But I can't comprehend how you must feel though, that kind of responsibility from your clan. Especially from the Light of Hokkaido...." Indeed, especially from such a great Kitsune as Midori.

Mitsuko let out a laugh, shaking her head. "You know, I run, I hunt, I do everything to keep myself in shape..." She turned herself around and placed her hands on her butt. "And no one can enjoy my rocking ass. Look at that? Isn't that much too nice of an ass to be hidden behind a tail all the time?" She turned back around and sighed. "I do like having my ears. They remind me of what I am when I'm... In this form. As much as I like being human, deep down, I know I'm still a fox."

Looking down, Mitsuko's expression was saddened. "The clan is like a family. But... Mine forced me to choose. Your clan might have been more accepting of humans than ours. My mother... You might think she's the 'Light of Hokkaido'... But to me, she is... Harsh. You've heard of Kamiyama Akari, my grandmother? The leader before my mother? She was murdered by human hunters. Before her death, my mother had been a scout. Her death hardened my mother, made her turn away from humans. She wanted to protect me from them. But I... I wanted the freedom humanity offered."

Mitsuko frowned as Kayo told her the story of leaving her own clan and of her younger brother. It made her think of Logan and what she would do to be with him. "I can understand the connection between sister and brother. I have a brother too. Half-brother..." She put a hand on Kayo's shoulder. "What happened to your brother? On the way to Elysium?" She frowned deeply, worried about the answer. "Is he..."

Kayo chuckled whole heartedly at her friend's motions. "Hai hai, I can definitely see how hard you worked for this to be covered!" she grinned, giving a playful slap at Mitsuko's rear. The laughter died down though as the other Kitsune shared her own background. Kayo had not heard of the demise of Midori's mother until now. She winced. Although it gave the Light of Hokkaido plenty ground to turn her back on humans, she felt that it was only those horrid hunters that deserved such hate. Not every human is good and not every human is bad. That was the Oochi clan's viewpoint towards them. Indeed they were less strict than the Tenko clan was.

Freedom... Yes, life with humans did offer a freedom but with that freedom came an caveat. "But if there is anything I learned from the freedom of living with humans though, I know I can never truly be myself, a fox, around them. Ironic isn't it? It's time like these though, meeting you, another Kitsune who I do not need to hide my ears and tails from and who does not look down on my fascination with humans that I appreciate very much. It's like having the best of both worlds," Kayo paused, gathering her thoughts. The Kitsune refilled both of their cups with tea. She felt was not her place to say much more.

"Half-brother?" Now that Mitsuko mentioned it, Kayo did recall Midori saying that there was a half-Kitsune in Elysium. "I'd like to meet him, since he's Mi-chan's sibling."

As the subject of her own brother came up, her worried thoughts about him started to resurface. "We traveled together, and I collapsed when we were on the verge of reaching Elysium," Kayo started to explain, "Next thing I knew when I woke up I was in a cottage. When I asked the guards at the gate, they said they only found me. I spent the first few months here searching the forests and areas to see if he reached here. Even though I haven't found him, I know he is not dead. Perhaps this is what you call a sibling bond. Do you and your brother ever feel something similar?

Mitsuko gave a small shriek and a jump when Kayo slapped her on the ass. "Oooh.... Kayo-chan! You better not do that" She arched an eyebrow at Kayo. "I kinda like the rough stuff, Foxy." Yes, she was shamelessly flirting with Kayo. But she was intrigued by the idea of the woman. And Mitsuko always gave into her curiosity.

As she revealed her mother's past and why the Tenko were so private, Mitsuko sighed deeply and glanced at Kayo. It wasn't a really good excuse for her mother's behavior, but it was all Mitsuko could come up with. Deep down, she didn't think her mother was a bad woman. Misguided and outdated, but bad... No, Midori just needed to understand the way of the world outside of the clan. "My mother and I.... Have a lot of issues. Both together and apart."

She thought about Kayo's point. She definitely did have one. Being around humans meant having to hide yourself from them. The nearly decade-old scar on her shoulder seemed to ache at the thought of Sho and what his reaction to her nature had been. Mitsuko didn't want to dwell on such dark thoughts. "You know, for a long time, I wanted to deny what I was. Pretend I wasn't a Kitsune. But I get what you mean. Being around other Kitsune-- Kitsune like you-- makes me want to be a real Kitsune again. But that problem, hiding who we are, doesn't really exist here in Elysium. Everyone knows about praeternaturals-- most of them are themselves. So we can be around humans and be ourselves."

Mitsuko's heart sank a bit at the talk of Logan. Logan was the real reason Mitsuko was so hesitant to fully embrace herself as a Kitsune. As a hybrid, Logan was an outcast. Mitsuko wanted to be an outcast with him. He was her family now. "I'm sure he'd like to meet you," Mitsuko said, only half-truthful. Logan was shy around other Kitsune. But Kayo was so sweet and kind, how could he be afraid of her/

She frowned deeply as Kayo told her sad tale of loss. The logical part of Mitsuko told her that Kayo's brother hadn't survived the trip. But there was no way she was going to say that to his sister. At the question of the sibling bond, Mitsuko shrugged her shoulders. "I dunno. I mean, I think it might exist, but.... Logan and I have only know each other for a few months. I never knew our father. I only met Logan when he arrived in Elysium."

Kayo snickered at Mitsuko's reaction and replied to her playfully, "I bet you like it rough!" She stuck out her tongue and gently pinched the other Kitsune girl's cheek. Her expression softened as she noticed Mitsuko’s change in tone. She agreed with her view on Elysium. It really was the best of both worlds when they could be who they really are and enjoy the company of any type of being they wanted. "It’s just harder trying to get the older ones to understand," she thought aloud.

The Kitsune pondered about it a bit longer. Even though her own clan was more relaxed about interactions with humans than the Tenko clan, in the end the elders made it clear to everyone that there was a strict line between kitsune and humans. And that line should never be crossed. She understood where that fear stemmed from though. Humans have fallen to many perversions that consequently harm others for petty reasons such as power, dominance, and money. But Kayo also recognized their kind side, capable of great deeds with no ulterior motive. Perhaps that's what made them so fun. Most Kitsune are inherently established with a good nature and strictly raised in a wise environment.

"Must be weird," Kayo commented with fascination. "To find out about a half-sibling at this age." She took a moment and laughed a bit. "I do not mean to offend you or anything but it certainly resembles a scenario in these television shows that the humans watch so often!"

Mitsuko grinned at Kayo. "Oh, you can find out everything I like if you want, Kayo-chan." She wasn't certain if Kayo was attracted to women, but so far, Kayo had done nothing to dissuade her flirting. So she would see exactly how far she could take it.

Thinking about her mother again, Mitsuko sighed deeply. "Try impossible." Then, her mother had changed since coming to Elysium. She was even dating a human. That had to say something. She shook her head and sighed. She didn't know how to feel sometimes about Kamiyama Midori.

"Sometimes, I wonder what happened to the rest of us," Mitsuko said quietly. "I mean, there aren't even half a dozen Kitsune in Elysium. But there was a fair number of us before the virus. Where did we all go?" She sighed deeply, feeling a little morose.

She nodded slowly at the comment on the weirdness of her situation. "Yeah. I guess so. But I left home was I was fourteen. And my father was living in Canada. Maybe it's not so weird I didn't know about it..." She bit her lower lip. "So... Lessons?" she was starting to feel a bit uncomfortable with the subject matter.
