Who: Mitsuko and Max
When: Afternoon
Where: Helicharis Marketplace
What: The Thief Reunion

Mitsuko had the day off work today. Before she went over to Kayo's to work on disguising her ears and tail, she decided to blow off some steam in the marketplace. She had been following a few dwarves around and liberating them of various things they carried. After robbing the Medical Pavilion, she was deeply missing the life. But she had no desire to keep the dwarves possessions. She kept on placing them a bit ahead of them, making them think they'd dropped the various belongings. It was dumb, but it was somewhat entertaining. Besides, Mitsuko was still feeling a bit bitter towards Frar and Fror and decided to take it out on their kinsmen.

Bored with her thievery, Mitsuko leaned against the wall of the butcher's. She reached into her pocket and drew out a pack of cigarettes-- liberated from Sascha during her last visit to him. She lit the tip of one of the cigarettes and let the smoke billow out of her mouth into the crisp winter air.

Max wasn't too good with making friends, but it seemed as if he had done the deed with Shawn and Leo Dorian. For some reason, they really liked him and it was hard for him to continue acting like he didn't want anything to do with them. They were nice people, and hell, they let him borrow Leo's iPod almost imdefinitely — or at least until he got tired of it. But who knew when he would get tired of na iPod? That was the beauty of it.

As for everything else, Max's days went by as usual with little to nothing going on. He hadn't been planning any major schemes recently, although he had developed one or two in his head. The probability of him performing them out here came off as nearly impossible with all of these 'praeternaturals' as they called them. Max didn't see himself as one of them, even if he was one. He would always be a human in his own eyes for as long as he never had to face the truth, which could turn out being for a long time.

Currently, he was in the Butcher's getting some meat for supper. The smell of fresh, raw meat never bothered him. In fact, he tended to like it. The rawer the food, the better. It was a bad habit of his, and one of these days he was going to get sick from it. He was luckily he had never caught anything yet.

Carrying out the bag of fresh venison over his back, Max exited the shop. He had taken a fresh piece about the size of a quarter into his hand before leaving. It was just something for him to chew on and occupy his mouth with on the way back to his cottage. He took the piece of meat between his teeth and bit into it. The juices, partly made of blood, trickled down his wrist in a single rivulet along his arm and stained his skin.

Max barely noticed because he was focused on how good the meat tasted more than anything else.

Mitsuko caught the scent of blood. It wasn't an odd thing to smell at the butcher's shop, but it was enough that she was able to pick it up through the haze of cigarette smoke. She turned her head to see who had emerged from the butcher's. Her jaw dropped, recognizing the man. It had been a while back, a lifetime ago really.

"Eddie," Mitsuko said quietly. Her lips curved in a smile as she moved. Very softy, without even a crunching of snow, Mitsuko snuck up behind Eddie. She leaned in quickly, lapping the errant drip of blood from his hand. She knew the move would take him by surprise so she moved quickly to step in front of him.

"Small world, isn't it?" Mitsuko said with a laugh. She put her hands on her hips, looking Eddie over. He looked different than the last time she'd seen him. Of course, the last time she'd seen him, she'd been running from the authorities, leaving him holding the bag. "I can't believe it.... Eddie, of all people." She cocked her head. "You remember me?" She put a hand to her heart. "I'll be quite hurt if you don't."

He had been minding his own business when he suddenly felt something like a tongue against his hand. It made him jump back in surprise. There was no way in hell that was a dog licking his hand because he wasn't that close to the ground. Immediately moving to look in the right direction, Max saw the hair and his eyes followed that instead. It was a woman. Not only that, but it was a woman he had run into before. Oh, he knew her.

"No shit," Max stated in amazement, staring forward at the familiar face. Bewilderment painted his features, and he huffed as if he couldn't believe it. Max lifted his free hand, which wasn't too free since it still held the small piece of meat, to point at her with it. "How did you get here?" She was calling him Eddie, but Eddie was the name that she knew. As a professional thief, it was good to have an alias. Giving out your real name wasn't going to get you anywhere good.

Max started to nod his head, running his tongue over his teeth. He put the piece of meat into his mouth and chewed it, staring unbelievably at her the whole time. "You still owe me big time for nearly getting my ass caught," he declared. Max held out his hand, beckoning with his fingers. "I expect due payment from you."

Mitsuko was incredibly pleased by this turn of events. She hadn't expected to ever see Eddie again after their last encounter. But she couldn't say it was unwelcomed. He seemed like an interesting guy the one time they met. And she couldn't say she didn't enjoy having someone with... Similar interests around town. Especially with her renewed interest in such activities after her night out at the hospital.

She wrinkled her nose cutely and grinned as she stood in front of Eddie. "Probably the same way you did. Heard about what was happening and got brought here. Can't say I'm really crazy about town. Our particular line of work is a bit more difficult when everyone gives everything away for free."

She let out a laugh at Eddie's assertion she owed him. "Well, I suppose you're right about that..." She arched a brow. "And that's much too cute an ass to get caught... Unless it's by the right person." The look she gave him was downright sinful. She had been just this flirtatious at their last meeting, although it had gone no farther than that. She noticed some blood dripping from his beckoning fingers. She leaned in and licked it off. "And what kind of payment would that be?"

Max nodded his head at first since he had to agree the free thing got to him. However, he shook his head a moment later because his story didn't go like hers. "I didn't get brought here," he said. "I wound up here on accident." He had spent most of his time in a remote cabin, eating whatever he could find and lacking any semblance of company. Max shrugged his shoulders. "I arrived in late October on a stolen boat with a merman in company." He snorted in a way that could have been construed as a half-laugh of sorts. "First time I ever saw something freaky like that." She would be the second real human he had encountered since being here. It was like they were a rare commodity these days.

The man was ready to flirt like the best of them as she teased him, a grin taking form on his face. Hey, it wasn't everyday a fine lady was willing to lick him without being asked to do it. He almost got caught up in the moment enough to flirt back, but then he realized something. She was licking away the blood on his fingers.

Max pulled his hand back some, sending a curious shift of his eyes her way. "You should be careful with raw red meat," he said matter-of-factly, holding up the bag he had slung over his shoulder. "This stuff'll make you sick. I've got the stomach for it, but I was raised that way." He raised his eyebrows as he tried to make a point. "And sushi's not the same thing as deer either." It wasn't like he knew, but he was a proud man. Despite his respect for most women, he sometimes fell into the bad habit of underestimating them and talking down to the fairer sex.

The idea of payment slipped his mind for a moment due to the distraction, but he went back to it. Only not in the way she originally approached it. "Um, for starters, my house here is kind of bare. Know where I can find stuff for it?" It proably wasn't the answer she had been looking for when she licked his fingers.

Mitsuko cocked her head to the side, wrinkling her nose. "Seriously? You didn't mean to end up here? You just... Did?" Part of her wondered if the Council had done something... Put out a beacon to attract praeternaturals to the Haven. "It sounds like you had a real adventure" At least his travel sounded to be easier than Logan's. He had been lucky. "Freaky?" She curled a lock of hair around her gloved finger. "A merman is freaky, sa?" It took her a moment to realize that she had been in her fedora and trenchcoat phase the last time they met. He had no idea she wasn't human.

She pulled back when Max didn't seem to get into her flirtations. Not that she wasn't being effective. He was worried about her... Because he thought she was human. "I'll be all right," Mitsuko said. "I'm kind of... Experienced with raw meat. I guess you could say I was raised that way too. Deer isn't something I'm all that used to... It's a bit big. Rabbit, small birds, squirrels... More my style."

She reached up and adjusted her hat, feeling her ears twitch beneath it.

"Oh..." She was a bit disappointed he didn't respond to her double entendre. "There are a few places in town you can legally get stuff. The woodshapers has furniture and the Fix-It Shop has some funky appliances." She smiled mischievously. "But... There might be more interesting stuff at the Storage Facility. And I'm pretty sure picking it up might be a lot more fun."

“Yeah,” Max echoed. He just ended up here. It sounded strange when she put it like that, and it wasn’t as if he meant to find this place. “I just found it. Freak accident, I guess.” Maybe on another day when they weren’t standing in town and he was holding a slab of deer meat on his back, he would tell her more in depth about what happened regarding his little trip to Elysium. Max shrugged his shoulders as she called it an adventure, a small smirk decorating his features. “Maybe,” he said.

As for mermen, Max pretended to sniff and rubbed his nose as if to try and brush off what he had said. It was still part of the truth for him, though. He stepped closer to her, leaning in somewhat to speak with a lowered voice. “Well, just between you and me, this whole ‘praeternatural’ thing is kind of bothering,” Max admitted to Mitsuko. “We’re human, you know?” He lifted one of his shoulders to indicate it was a comfort thing, not a prejudice thing. He liked to think of it that way at least. “You just don’t expect the world to be like this one day.” Max was silent before he chuckled aloud, shaking his head in disbelief. “I feel I’m Alice in fucking Wonderland.”

Had his finger not been dripping with blood, Max probably wouldn’t have been distracted from the licking. He noticed, though, and it was weird to him. Even if he was used to blood, even liked it, it was strange for him to see another person with the quality. It set off alarm bells in his mind because he always thought he was a freak. As much as he judged himself, he would have judged another person for it, too. He nodded his head at her explanation, though, accepting it as face value. Max had no reason not to.

Her suggestion made Max grin. It had been a while since he ran into someone else interested in, or even used to, his field of expertise. It was an exhilarating prospect. “Sounds like more my style,” he said. As long as he could have proper time to plan it, he would give it a shot. His latest failed attempts came to mind, but Max blamed it on being out of his element. It was easy to be out of your element in a place like this, Max thought.

Mitsuko nodded slowly. She smiled slightly, despite feeling slightly unsure about the entire conversation with Eddie. Not only had he known her in her former life, but he believed her to be human. She wasn't sure how he was going to respond to the truth about her. "Maybe you can tell me it sometime."

Swallowed hard, Mitsuko nodded again at Eddie's murmured comment. She of course understood how this could be taken as 'freaky'. But she could be taken as 'freaky' too. "I kinda get that," Mitsuko said quietly. "I... I kind of grew up with this kind of stuff. So I'm used to it. But... It could be weird for people who aren't used to it." She placed a hand on Eddie's shoulder. "You'll get used to it. I promise. It's not that different. I promise."

Furrowing her brow, Mitsuko cocked her head. "Shouldn't you be worried about the affects of raw meat? I know you're a big strong man, but..." She felt like there was something Eddie was neglecting to tell her. She knew it well, as she was neglecting to tell him something as well.

But she smiled when he responded favourably to her suggestion. That had been the one she really wanted him to spark to. "I haven't really gotten to play around since coming to Elysium. Except for some petty stuff. Pickpocketing. Isn't much fun. No challenge. I could really like a challenge..." She placed her hands on Eddie's chest and moved in close to him. "So what do you say? Feel like playing with me, Eddie?" She leaned in to his ear. "I'd really love to play with you again."

Max gazed at her as he chewed on his inner lip. "You've seen this stuff before," he said, and it came out as a statement because he wasn't just about to ask a question Mitsuko already answered. The minor peptalk wasn't going to soothe away his unease about praeternaturals, but he could put it behind him for now. "A lifetime of it probably would make it normal," Max commented idly, rubbing his chin with his free hand. He took a deep breath, hoping to change the subject onto something more relaxing. As much as he was beginning to like merpeople, there were still a lot of things in Elysium that struck an uneasy chord inside of him.

Max couldn't help but grin at her question. While he reprimanded her for it, Max liked raw meat and it was never something he had to worry about. Ever since he was a kid, he could eat it without getting sick, even had a penchant for it. It was a manly quality, being able to eat meat undercooked, and Max liked to think it showed the strength of his body's tolerance. "I've been chewing on raw meat since I was kid," he revealed with a lopsided grin. "I've got an immunity to it." It was about as far as his explanation was going to go for now.

When she placed her hands on his chest, Max's mind went right back to the track it was on before it got interrupted. He was a man, plain and simple, and she was an attractive woman openly hitting on him. His eyes followed her hands a first, something of a smirk taking over his mouth, and he slowly glanced over her chest as his gaze rose to meet her eyes. "I say I think I can handle it." There was a double-pun in what he said to her, and he realized she was calling him Eddie once she leaned in to speak into his ear.

Max leaned forward to talk near hers as well. "The name's Max," he said in a low voice. He leaned back then, a gleam of amusement in his eyes. "You know aliases. They tend to make things a little safer."

Mitsuko felt her stomach flip-flop as Eddie seemed so uneasy over praeternaturals. While she usually had no problem hiding her Kitsune nature, she thought she had left that behind after she came to Elysium. Everyone knew about praeternaturals now. But she didn't want Eddie to look at her any differently than before. There was a psychosomatic twinge in her shoulder, in the place where she had been stabbed by Sho. "Don't worry too much about it, sweetie." She ran a hand through his hair. "You wouldn't want to lose your hair, now would you?"

She cocked her head and smiled at Eddie when he told her about eating raw meat. "My kind of guy. You know, if I'd know you were so much fun, I might not have abandoned you to the police." She licked her lips. "I probably could have found much more fun things to do with you." While she did have Irei and Sascha for fun, it wouldn't have been a bad thing to have another man in town. It kept things from getting dull. She didn't want to get too attached to any one man. Not again.

Mitsuko ran her hands over Eddie's chest. While they were both dressed warmly, she remembered what he'd looked like when they first met. He was thin, but defined. Definitely of interest for her. "I'm glad," Mitsuko purred. "I've never been much for company on the job, but for you... I'd make an exception."

She nodded slowly. Of course, she often used aliases as well, usually when scamming men. "Max.... mmmm." She smiled. "I like it." She leaned in closer to Max and ran her tongue teasingly over the shell of his ear. "Saturday night. I'm free. We can go to the storage facility and... We'll see where it goes from there."

It was easy to shake it off as she made a joke about him losing his hair. Normally, he might have had a comeback for that. His mouth just quirked upward in the corner in a half-smirk this time. Max couldn't imagine she was anything other than human. Finding out she was something else wouldn't get a nasty reaction just off the bat--unless they did things a little more than friendly with each other. His reaction probably wouldn't be so good under circumstances like that.

Max never even had it shoved into his own face his own true nature. It was bound to be a more disturbing revelation to him than anything else he'd ever find out about other people; if he wouldn't cut himself any slack, it made sense he'd be hard on other people, too. Him overreacting to her was probably the least of her worries, though. Max wasn't the violent type; he was the type to run away from situations he couldn't deal with, so it would be a true test of character how he ever handled finding out about his dhamphirism.

"Next time," Max said quietly, leaning forward with a gleam in his eyes, "remember that before you ditch me." He smirked in her direction, hoisting the bag of meat a little higher on his back.

Okay, so he wasn't expecting her to lick his ear, but he couldn't complain about it either. It felt good to get attention like this from a woman again. Briefly, the image of a smiling Riley popped into his head, though, and he felt a little guilty for enjoying it. He had been developing a sort of grown-up crush on the short tough girl he had met soon upon arrival here.

"I'll see you there," he said, smiling secretively at Mitsuko and taking his leave. "I have some meat to get home," Max added, indicating the bag over his shoulder. "So . . . I'll see you then."

He continued on his walk away from the butcher, swallowing along the way and wondering what he had just gotten himself into--in a good but apprehensive way.
