Who: Irei, Sascha, Mitsuko, Logan, and Sheldon(?)
When: Evening, when the moon has appeared in the sky
Where: site of Kaiya and Faye's murder
What: Calling Kaiya's spirit back from the dead, bwahahahaha!

Irei scratched the back of his neck as he checked once again that he had everything ready for the seance. As this one was planned unlike the time those stupid harpies had attacked, he had thought to bring a bigger, and better supplies to work the magic that would be going down that evening. He had scratched a magic circle into the earth with a sturdy stick he had found near the murder site and was now busy etching pictographic ruins from within the circle. Multiple fat, white candles set on low round bases were set in strategic spots. He had also taken it upon himself to find something that had personally belonged to Kaiya, incase either Logan or Sheldon didn’t show up. It wasn’t much, but he would help him focus in on Kaiya’s energy.

He sat back on his haunches and looked over at his friend. Irei had asked Sascha to come with him this time. These kind of events tended to be very trying on even Irei’s ability to make it home on his own two feet. His normal practice of drinking to deaden the pain was effective, but he had to be sure not to drink too much, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to focus. He was grateful for that possessive streak that ran through Sascha on occasion that seemed to make him more than willing to accompany Irei and make sure the necromancer made it home safely.

Irei put a cigarette in his mouth and lit it on one of the already burning candles. “Oi!” He called out to Sascha and tossed his pack over to him, nearly wordlessly offering him a cigarette as well as asking him to hold onto it for him. Stuffed inside the pack of thin white sticks was Irei silver Zippo lighter. Considering Sascha had known very little of Kaiya while she was alive aside from Irei had told him, his presence was not required so much for that, as it was for moral support.

There had been no form of RSVP from the two he had invited out tonight. Irei hadn’t really expected much in that form, but he still wasn’t sure who would come. Logan had been really upset when Irei had mentioned calling his father’s spirit. He hadn’t seen Logan again until the Halloween festival, when they both had interest in the vampire/human odd couple. Although Logan had been interested in the teenaged girl, and Irei was far more drawn to Hayate himself. Unlike with Logan Irei had little knowledge of Sheldon, let alone his exact relation to the deceased fae.

He sucked the nicotine laced smoke deep into his lungs, causing him to cough. It was just a bit too much all at once. He buried his mouth into his elbow as he continued to cough.

Was there anything else he needed to do? The candles were set up, ruins sketched, and the incense was laid out ready to be burnt as an offering to the departed.. He stood back up and carefully made his way to where he had set down his grimoire, his book of necromancy spells and supernatural information. He picked it up and ran his hand over the repaired spine. It was a very old and very rare book. There were very few in existence that he knew off. It was Sato-sensei’s legacy that he had passed down to Irei. He opened the book and raised his eyes to glance over it at Sascha before returning to his mental check list.

All he really needed were the invited guests to attend.

Logan paused for a moment, unsure of continuing towards the circle. Did he really want to do this? He had said no to Irei bringing his father back. Yet he wanted to see Kaiya... Hadn't he seen enough of her when he found her dead and mutilated body?

"You don't have to do this," Mitsuko said quietly, putting a hand on Logan's shoulder. She wasn't entirely sure of this herself. He had already gone through so much... Mitsuko had never been to a seance before, but she'd heard about them. Her poor brother had already gone through so much. Could he really deal with this?

"I need to," Logan whispered softly. He grabbed Mitsuko's hand, squeezing it tightly.

Mitsuko bit her lower lip and nodded. "All right. I'm going to be with you all the way, Logan-chan. I promise." While she wasn't sure she wanted Logan to see the seance, she wanted to be there herself. She hoped Kaiya would reveal the identity of her killer. It had to be Hayate, she was sure of it. Who else would want to hurt those sweet little fae?

Keeping a tight hold on Mitsuko's hand, Logan began to move towards the circle again. He took a deep breath when he reached the edge. Mitsuko gave Logan a tender kiss on the forehead. Logan swallowed hard and nodded silently, trying to reassure both Mitsuko and himself he was ready for this.

Mitsuko released Logan's hand for a moment to kneel down next to Irei. "Promise me he'll be okay with this, Irei-san"

Sascha had a feeling he was really going to need those cigarettes soon.

Hearing about the seance in the first place had been a bit of a surprise, but when Irei had expressly asked Sascha to accompany him, well...that one came right out of the blue. Not that he wouldn't have insisted on it anyway. The necromancer had been growing physically weaker over the last few months, and this kind of magic had a tendency to drain his energy even further. There was no way Sascha was about to leave his friend out on his own in such a vulnerable state, not after all the shit that had been going on in the haven recently...like the event that had led them all here tonight.

Sascha shifted his legs into the lotus position, wincing imperceptibly at the dull throbbing in his right leg and passing his fingers over the swordcane he'd secured from Aveira earlier in the day. A cloud of cigarette smoke followed him and hovered in the air around him like a halo as he stuffed Irei's pack and lighter into his jacket pocket for safe-keeping. Sweeney wasn't here tonight- her natural canine paranormal-sensors would have set her off, anyway- since Sascha had left her with Rowan, the elven library aide whom she'd grown closest to during her time there.

He watched Mitsuko and her halfling brother approach the circle with obvious trepidation, and he heard the kitsune's whispered question. It occurred to him that the boy must have had a significant bond with the dark-haired little fae (Irei had briefly filled him in on the situation and the potential attendees, but he was always to-the-point about things like that), and Sascha's heart went out to him. He'd had a taste of this experience when his friend had called back Annie's spirit all those years ago, but the circumstances surrounding her death had been much less shrouded in mystery.

Irei had already adopted that coldly indifferent expression he knew so well, although Sascha was positive it was all for the sake of suppressing his emotions concerning Kaiya so that he could concentrate on the ritual at hand. That was something they'd always seemed to have in common, that self-distraction. Irei's spellbook was open in his hands and the stage was set for the events to come...and goddamn, it was getting colder out here.

"Let's get this show on the road, folks," he spoke up from his position on the ground. "We're already breaking curfew, and if we get caught before this even gets started, it won't do anybody much good."

Sheldon already arrived with a cigarette in his mouth and looked around to the crowd of people he didn’t even know. Insert a witty or potentially a bastardly comment here. He knew this was not the time to say anything. “Nice to meet you all.” He said in a dull tone before he laid down his cigarette into the ground nearby. He used to not believe in this shit, now he was quite the believer.

It was interesting to watch Irei prepare for the ceremony. Back home he would have called him a crazy bloke, but this was actually all quite unique and stomach unsettling all at the same time. He could imagine that what he was about to do was exhausting but he would have liked to know what had happened to the fae when she passed on. He didn’t attend Kaiya's funeral which made him feel like a horribly bad person, but at least he was here and fully into knowing what happened to her Halloween night.

When Sascha spoke about “getting the show on the road” (he hadn’t really heard that saying much and the man spoke funny, uniquely to him even) he turned towards the stranger. “Couldn’t have said it better myself.”

Irei glanced over at Mitsuko and Logan. He was glad the boy had come. He had thought that Mitsuko would probably accompany him to support him or some such notion, and from the way she whispered to him, he could tell she had quickly become protective of her younger brother. Irei shut the book and looked down at her. “ Mitsu-chan, I’m not going to offer you a hollow promise that nothing this evening will disturb Logan-san. You should know me better than that. The best I can offer him is closure, but I’m glad he’s willing at least to face death now.”

Putting the book down in a safe spot, he noted the urgency in Sascha tone and then also glanced at Sheldon. Irei wasn’t worried about the Council at all. Adding more curfews when the last one didn’t work was just idiotic. What was that his friend sometimes said, “Doing the same thing more than once and expecting a different outcome was the definition of insanity, “ Irei whispered under his breath.

Irei hadn’t met Sheldon yet, but he had known a little that Kaiya had had some sort of relationship with the man. That was enough for tonight. He looked around at the people who had come. Two actually had feelings for the girl, and the other two had only known of her. Had Kaiya only touched this many lives in Elysium? Was this the measure of her life? He shook his head slightly. That was not what he had come here to do.

“Nice to meet you Sheldon. I am sorry for the circumstances. I am also sorry, but it does take as much time as it takes. I cannot automatically make her soul appear.”

Irei picked up the tome and walked to the center of the circle. He sat down and fixed the paper chains, that had prayers/spells written in them, that were surrounding him. He then feel into the old pattern of becoming business-like and distancing himself from the actual act he would perform that evening. “Everyone, please sit in front of a burning candle and think of the deceased. Even if you didn’t know her well, think about what you did know of her.”

Irei sat cross-legged and opened the book in his lap and turned it to the correct page. He waited for everyone to take their places before he began. Irei had never really understood the idea of people having to hold hands at these things like he saw in a lot of western media. The connection was a mental one, not physical.

He shut his eyes and started to chant in an unintelligible language that not even Sascha would be able to understand, calling for Kaiya to join them in their space.

Mitsuko looked down, sighing deeply. "He found her body, Irei-kun. He didn't really have a choice but to face it." She leaned in and gave Irei a kiss on the cheek. She couldn't imagine this was a very pleasant experience for him. Using his body and energy to bring back a murdered girl he'd been friends with. She nodded to Sascha and gave him a sad look. She wasn't really sure what she was supposed to do and she thought Sascha was in a similar position she was. He was here to support Irei while she was here to support Logan... And find out the identity of Kaiya's murderer.

Mitsuko and Logan took their places in the circle. Logan grabbed Mitsuko's hand. it was not a matter of thinking he needed to, but wanting the support of his elder sister. He didn't acknowledge Sheldon when he arrived. He wasn't trying to exclude him. He didn't acknowledge anyone, especially in this sort of situation.

Sitting in front of the burning candles, both Mitsuko and Logan though about Kaiya. Mitsuko thought of her one meeting with the girl... How shy and sweet she'd been, playing with Sascha's dog. Her mind then wandered to Faye, the conversation she'd had with her, how protective she'd been of Kaiya and her anger at Hayate.

Logan reached into his pocket and took out a rumpled picture. It was a sketch he'd done of Kaiya... The first sketch he did of her, the first time he saw her. He thought back on the dreams he visited of herself. The dates they went on while she slept. Their only real meeting together... The promising future they'd had that had been quickly destroyed. The tears slid down his cheeks. He desperately wanted to see her again, even if it was only an echo of her.

Insanity, indeed. Sascha may not have heard Irei breathe the words aloud, but he heard the echo of the thought in his friend's mind- unintentionally, of course- and it brought a wry smile to his face. Gee, that sounded awfully familiar. He'd been doing quite a lot of that recently, absently tuning into Irei's thoughts and cruising along under the radar, so to speak; the necromancer's mind was actually an incredible place to be, but it was also the last place Sascha wanted to be on a night like this. Things were already spooky enough here on the outside, and there was a reason why he often teasingly referred to the other man as "Eerie."

Sascha had noted the arrival of the kitsune girl and her brother with a nod of acknowledgment, and he offered up as reassuring a smile as he could muster when Mitsuko sent him that look. Don't think too hard about it, Miss Mitsuko, he thought as he pulled the cigarette away from his mouth for a moment to exhale. Just do what he says and be prepared for a whole shitload of weirdness. See, reassuring. Logan seemed distracted enough as it was, so there was little point in trying to address him.

The other man who joined the group was unfamiliar to Sascha, and he watched him curiously for a few moments as he sucked away at the cigarette. He'd heard a good number of accents in his day- hell, he'd gone through the trouble of losing his all those years ago and had only recently relaxed enough to start speaking more naturally- but something about the lilt in the stranger's voice seemed particularly intriguing. Was he Irish, perhaps? Or maybe Scottish. Either way, Sascha had been about to respond to Sheldon's remark (Irei had called him Sheldon, hadn't he?) when the necromancer suddenly called for them to gather around to begin the seance.

And now it starts. Fasten your seatbelt, it's gonna be a bumpy ride . He glanced meaningfully at Sheldon while he stubbed out his cigarette as if to say, Yes, that's really me in your head. Don't freak out. Sascha scooted forward until he was seated directly in front of one of the candles, and he quickly settled into the comfortable pose he usually adopted during his meditative training with Theora. He probably knew the least about Kaiya of anyone else present, but he tried to focus his attention, like Mitsuko, on the single brief meeting they'd had at the crossroads that day when the pretty little fae had played with Sweeney. Irei's voice fell over him almost like a fog, and he shuddered beneath his layers of warm clothing against a sudden chill that had absolutely nothing to do with the weather outside.

There were moments that when silence occurred that Sheldon was tempted to go around and asked how everyone knew Kaiya. Kind of the whole casual “Soooo, how did you know the fae”? In the fashion of “What did you do to land you here?” of course not at all in a humorous or cruel way. It was hard to explain it. Sheldon just felt a little awkward and unsure how he fit in with the others. They all seemed to know each other while Sheldon was truly unfamiliar with them all hence him being a little standoffish. The psychic wasn’t trying to be a dick or anything. He just kind of found a spot to stare at that wasn’t directed at anyone.

Sheldon wasn’t at all hesitant to gather around when the séance began. He rubbed the back of his neck and tried not to make a noise, thinking he would interrupt the whole summoning of the dead procedure or something. This shit was weird, but it was even weirder when he thought he heard someone in his voice. Just because Kaiya was dead, he doubted she had a man’s voice, especially in a Southern drawl. He turned to Sascha in a slightly surprised glance, but then slightly smiled in a..what he would call appropriate way.

“I was going to say. This is weird enough. Last thing I need is to go fucking out of me mind.” He whispered, then turned his attention back to Irei. Jesus it was getting fucking cold.
