Entry tags:kayo miyafuku, logan nagamori

Monday: November 5, 2007
Who: Kayo and Logan
When: Night
Where: Kayo's dreams
What: An Awkward Case of Mistaken Identity

Kayo returned home, rubbing her eyes as sleepiness came upon her. As tired as she may be, it did not stop reminding the girl how it was another night she faced a dark and quiet room. Kayo dismissed any oncoming thoughts and quickly stepped inside her bathroom for a refreshing shower. As always she paid meticulous attention grooming her tail, keeping it smooth and silky. The Kitsune started to have flashes of memories in the past, remembering how by the end of the day she would find that Nagi's tail had accumulated a forest of sticks and leaves from playing outside. She would roll her eyes and comb her brother's tail since he was always too lazy to do it himself. Kayo shook her head from such nostalgia, unable to help but wonder where everyone else in her clan was, especially Nagi. After drying her hair, she prayed once more for his safety before slipping into the warm inviting bed.

Slumber gradually took over and piloted her into a peaceful sleep. It wasn't long before Kayo found herself in a dream, and she knew it was a dream because she was in Kyoto once more; in fact, Kayo was in the city. The girl looked around to see that nothing much as changed. She paused at a shopping window to see her reflection, which turned out to be about ten years older. Was this a dream in the future then? She kept on walking around, unable to help but feel how foreign this place felt. Kayo had gotten used to the lack of such a technology dominated environment and even if it was just a dream, she was bewildered from the images.

The girl suddenly turned around; she felt something...something familiar. It was a faint impression of a Kitsune. Is this even possible? Her eyes scanned the crowd of people to find the source of this sensation.

Logan wasn't quite sure when he fell asleep. He had been up for so long, trapped in his dark thoughts and focused on his depressing paintings.

He wouldn't have even realized he was asleep had it not been for the rapid change in scenery. This was nowhere he recognized. That was not an unusual occurrence when he fell asleep. His dreams were never his own. Yet this felt different than usual.

He reached out and touched the side of a building, finding he had form. He was not a casual observer in this dream, as he usually was when he slumbered. He was dreamwalking. Yet he had not focused on anyone, as was usually the case. He had drifted physically into a dream without meaning to. His mother had told him times of stress and heartache could cause such accidents.

Because he had not focused on someone, he had no idea who's dream he was in. He looked around at the people within the dream. Whoever's dream it was, they would appear clearer, more real. Most around him were hazy, as if they were just part of the scenery.

Then, he saw her. A woman. She was quite beautiful. He kept his distance, almost afraid to approach her. He had not prepared himself to meet someone new, but here he was in front of her.

Kayo's tail pricked up at the site of the young man before her. He was the source of it. Nagi? Well, if she was ten years older...then her little brother would be around such an age. She peered at him, he shared some resemblance to Nagi. On the other hand, she did find it a bit odd that he had white ears. All of the怀Oochi clan members had prided in their golden orange tail. But she was very sure that he gave off the aura of a Kitsune. Besides, this was a dream right? For all she knew Nagi could've sported paws instead of hands.

Either way, with the image of the young male Kitsune...Kayo could not help but see a little brother. She quickly made her way towards him and gave him a warm and loving hug. Somehow it felt a little more real than a typical dream, the girl appreciated it. This moment may be the closest she'd ever get to seeing her missing sibling. "I've missed you so much..." She raked her hand through his hair, thinking how it was just as soft back when he was a child. Her fingers stopped to play with his foxy ears. "I think these ears suit you really well," she laughed.

Logan's eyes widened as the woman approached him. He had never seen her before. He was certain of that. The only Kitsune he had ever met were his father, sister, Kamiyama-sama and Shigeru.

This was different. She didn't look much different in age than Mitsuko. Of course, that didn't make much difference with pureblood Kitsune. They lived to be well-over two hundred and aged very well. Even Kamiyama-sama only looked late thirties, despite being over a hundred. This woman also had beautifully orange ears. He had not yet met an orange furred Kitsune. His family all had snowy white fur and Shigeru had been dark.

They were the only people in this dreamscape. Not really, but that's what it seemed. The others just seemed to blur, unimportant when they were together. Logan felt a small shudder go through him. His empath connection with the dream picked something up. Love? But... It was different. Not romantic or sexual.

The feelings he got from the woman were like those he felt when he went into his mother's dreams, when she had trained him. But they weren't feelings for him. They couldn't be. Logan had never met her before.

Logan felt panic rise in him as the woman approached him and wrapped her arms around him. He wanted to pull away, but... There was something comforting in the hug. She seemed to need that comfort.

When they finally pulled back, Logan looked at the woman in confusion. He felt his breath catch as she played with his ears briefly and commented on them. "...Who are you?" Logan asked, confused, before he could stop himself. "Have we met?"

Unaware of the young man's power to slip into other people's dream, Kayo only thought that this was part of her sleep. She started to piece together what was happening...if this was the future, perhaps this scenario would be the first time they would have met in ten years. A part of her did feel a bit of hurt, since her little brother did not recognize her right away, even if it was the dream version. None the less, she decided to play along. What a fun dream. I wish this happened more often...

"You're so silly," she grinned. Kayo put her hands on his cheeks and smush them together. "You've grown so tall now! As tall as me even! I can't tower over and tease you anymore." Un-smushing his cheeks, but her hands still on them, she brought her face closer to his peering at him with wide eyes. "Oh you're so handsome now, I bet all the other girls in our clan...or any other clan for that matter, would go crazy for you. I'm so jealous! When I was your age the other boys were too busy fawning over what's her name...Sayaka."

Kayo couldn't help but feel so happy the more she talked to him. Even if he wasn't really her little brother, he filled in an empty gap she had ever since she came to Elysium.

At times, it was difficult dealing with people when they were unaware of Logan's powers. Usually, they just ignored him. Sometimes, they would make him a part of the dream, such in the case of Hayate or Kaiya. They saw him as an oddity of their mind, some deep part of their subconscious they were not aware of when they were awake.

This woman was different. She had assigned him the identity of someone else she knew. Someone in her family. That much Logan could discern from the way she spoke to him. There was a bit of guilt in Logan as the woman teased him. He didn't like the idea of pretending to be someone she cared for. But another part of him felt it would be crueler to slip out of the dream, to have his image disappear like smoke. She would be bereft by the disappearance of someone she cared for very much, even if Logan weren't actually the one she wanted to see.

"Thank you," Logan said quietly. There was nothing else he could really say. She had complimented him. And he didn't want to say anything that would break her belief he was whoever her precious person was. It would be far too jarring. "You look very pretty." She very much reminded Logan of his sister. Perhaps it was a trait of Kitsune to be so pretty.

Observing his reserved manner, Kayo began to suspect that he was trying very hard to delicately tip-toe around something. It would explain his lack of words or excitement towards his 'long lost sister'. It suddenly dawned on her that this young man had nothing in common with her little brother except for being a Kitsune. Kayo held such a thought and wondered if it's even possible to sense a Kitsune's presence in a dream in the first place. But this is all a dream! Was the person standing before her some sort of symbol that her unconcious was putting forth? Yet at the same time she was bewildered from the feeling of reality as she interacted with the boy. As time passed on, the scenery and the people around her seemed to be more faded and less important.

Kayo stepped back to look at her "brother" once more. She tilted her head in a moment of thought, sensing confusion from the tone he spoke and the look of bewilderment he seemed to possess. She wanted to reason that Nagi's personality was more quiet in her dream. If it was a dream, anything could change right? But judging from the other signs such as his snowy white fox ears and his earlier query of whether they had met before......Kayo's heart sank as she gradually accepted that this young man was no future version of Nagi. Even in a dream, she could not find him. "You....." she started to speak hesitantly, "You are not who I think it is are you?"

Logan was the only thing that was real within the dream. This woman probably wouldn't even remember him when she awoke in the morning. She would chalk him up to some sort of bizarre manifestation of her subconscious. Only Mitsuko, Zach, Charlie and Chris were aware of his ability to go into dreams. Even if this woman knew who he truly was, he would just seem to be an echo of reality. Logan was the only one who would hold this as a real memory. It was no wonder he was so troubled. Even in dreams he had no rest.

Swallowing hard, looked down. He didn't want to admit the truth, as it seemed so important to this woman for him to be someone else, the person she had initially thought he was. "I didn't mean to," Logan said quietly. "I'm sorry for coming in without your permission. I was just so tired..." His words were far more dream-like, disconnected, than normal. While he normally had good control of a person's dream, his inadvertent visit left him vulnerable to the nature of the dream around him. "You look like my sister."

Kayo raked a hand through her hair, taking in more of this bizarre dream but somehow comforting dream. Her maternal instincts gave a small kick when she saw him speak with such a guilt ridden aura. The Kitsune couldn't help but reach out to ruffle his hair gently. "Well, that makes two of us," she chuckled. "If my brother was ten years older he would probably be just as handsome as you. I think you might be a little bit better looking, but if you ever see him, don't tell him that." Truthfully, she knew her feelings for the boy was stemming from her own affection towards Nagi. Nonetheless, she had taken a liking to him, and decided to be more nosy about him.

Kayo took a closer look; indeed this boy did look as tired as he said. Poor thing... But what did he mean by 'coming in without permission'? Did he mean her life by impersonating Nagi (although he didn't mean to) or rather, although a little crazy sounding, her dream? She placed her thought on hold as she realized she was forgetting something very crucial. "My name is Miyafuku," the girl introduced herself. "Miyafuku, Kayo-desu. You may not be my little brother, but seeing how I have already treated you like one...it'd be nice to know your name too." Without thinking, Kayo played with his snowy ears again.

OOC: One last comment from Kayo? (I know it's abrupt, but it's dreams!)

Logan smiled at Kayo ruffled his hair. Mitsuko often ruffled his hair, to show her affection without being too overtly sappy. He blushed when Kayo said he might be better looking. He was terribly comfortable with his looks at times. "I don't tell people a lot of things," Logan replied cryptically, hinting at his real life problems speaking.

"Kayo...." Logan nodded, repeating the name. "That's pretty..." He would have introduced himself to her, confided in her that he had entered her dreams without meaning to, but the world blurred around him. It was a disconcerting feeling, torn from the dream abruptly. His eyes snapped open and he found himself lying on his bed. He was pulled as quickly from the dream as he had come in, out of his control. Maybe Kayo had just woken up or perhaps his unintentional travel had made his exit just as abrupt.

Regardless, he wondered if he would meet the woman again. He picked up his sketchpad, intent on drawing Kayo while her image was still fresh in his mind. Maybe he would be able to find her again, whether in real life or dreams.

Kayo furrowed her eyebrows as she felt the morning light shine down on her closed eyes. She turned over as she felt the rude awakening tear her away from a wonderful dream. The Kitsune tried very hard to return to it, but it was already too late. All she could do was lay curled up around her pillow and try to remember any remnants from her dream. Kayo usually never cared for remembering dreams since she usually had none or they were bizarre ones resulting from late night binging. As bizarre as this dream was, she knew that it was different from any one she ever had. It seemed all too real and it gave her a deep feeling of comfort at the same time. This dream was very important and Kayo concentrated to recollect what she saw and who she spoke with.

It was Nagi! Yes, that was why it was so important; if she dreamed about Nagi then obviously it was important. The subconscious plane of her mind was probably the only way she could see him. Kayo lingered on her moment of discovery for a little while, biting her lower lip; something wasn't quite right. No...it was someone else. Indeed, it was another boy. As time passed, she couldn't quite put her finger on anything at all. Try as she might, Kayo could only remember one thing about the predominant figure of her dream: soft snowy fox ears.
