Sunday: November 4, 2007
Who: Elijah and Jamile
When: Mid-afternoon, around 2 PM
Where: The café
What: Humans can be very territorial

The café was filled to the brim with customers, to the point where there wasn't any place to sit at all. The outside tables were out of the question since it was raining, and Elijah didn't fancy getting wet since he was trying to warm up with a cup of coffee. He let out a soft sigh as he waited for his latte to be made, eyes scanning the people who occupied the tables.

The elemental couldn't help that his thoughts immediately went to the two girls who were killed on Halloween. It was very possible that the killer was sitting right there in the café without a care in the world. He (or she) probably felt proud of their act, thinking that they had just gotten away with a heinous crime. No witnesses, no evidence, no clue to who could have done the killing was left behind. The killer was a veritable ghost.

"Sir, your drink," said the man behind the counter as he handed Elijah his latte.

"Thanks," was the only replied offered as he took the drink and began looking for an empty seat. A few people had gotten up to leave, and at least he had a small selection of tables to choose from. But then he spied a girl getting up from a table near one of the windows, and as soon as she was away he moved to snag the empty seat. He settled down into the chair, eyes cast toward the rain that fell against the glass as he lifted his steaming cup of coffee to his lips. Relaxation at last, or at least that's what the elemental believed.

The inner area of the café was so jammed packed that if one wanted to be nosey enough, they could hear every word of ones conversation. Jamile heard of the deaths of Kaiya and Faye so she wouldn’t be surprised if some ears were open to others conversations. It was frightening to hear about what Sanura heard about their deaths, but Jamile told herself there was nothing to worry about. Sanura loved to believe everything she heard because she never liked the ‘benefit of the doubt’. Silly girl. Suddenly thinking about her sister reminded Jamile she needed to get her silly sister a present.

Jamile couldn’t believe her family was in Elysium. It caused her to smile “on and off” and even occasionally laugh. At times people looked onwards towards her like she had a cruel sense of humor since she was reading Last Animals at the Zoo: How Mass Extinction Can Be Stopped. When she finally met the eyes of someone giving her an odd glance she gave a stern glare in return before she grabbed her empty cup of tea to request another glass. The café employees seemed way too busy for her to try and get their attention to serve her at her seat so she decided to get up and make ways to the serving area. But to keep her area safe, she dropped her handbag towards her seat. Not paying attention, her bag dropped towards the leg of the chair now opposite of the man who would soon be her competitor to her former table.

After receiving her cup of tea she now saw she had some unwanted company at the small table she was seated at. It didn’t matter if a person was attractive or not, her stuff was there. “Uhm, yeah.” She began. “You’re kind of sitting at my table.” Which was just enough for two people..barely and she didn’t even know who this person was. She guessed the weather could make people sourer with where they wanted to sit and who they wanted to sit with. It was cold and rainy outside and she wasn’t up for moving in the cold.

Jamile bent down to sling her handbag over her shoulder and looked the stranger over. “Is there somewhere else you can sit?”

The momentary peace was broken by a somewhat pleasant voice. Obviously female, but Elijah didn't look up right away. She was saying something about how it was her table, but as far as the elemental could see there wasn't anyone sitting there when he took a seat. He looked over at her when she bent over to get her purse - oh, so she had left a bag there to save her seat. Cute, he said under his breath, though whether he was referring to the girl or the fact that she left her bag there like a high schooler wasn't clarified.

He arched a brow at her while the cup of coffee was raised to his lips. He sipped it slowly, and only put down the cup to answer the girl. "Somewhere else?" He craned his neck around her body, and then around the café where there were obviously lots of other tables to sit at. He looked up at her when he was done and just smiled. "Yeah, there's lots of places I could sit." But instead of moving he remained planted in his seat, lifting his cup once again to drink his coffee. After all, she didn't ask him to move, she just asked if there were other places he could sit and he answered her.

If the girl wanted him to move, well then she'd have to say so. Even then he wouldn't go. He'd probably just stare at her and smile until she got frustrated enough to go somewhere else. Or join him. He wouldn't be opposed to company, though he often did his damnedest to keep people at bay. "There is another seat here," he said idly while his hand waved toward the empty chair. He wasn't going to invite her outright, but at least made a point of it. What the girl did with it afterward would be up to her.

Smart ass. “Obviously there are other places I could sit and if I wanted to sit somewhere else you would have seen me move by now. But, I stopped playing musical chairs when I was ten years old. Even then, I was a little bored.”

She looked towards the empty chair like it had some sort of infestation on it. She probably stood there for a few moments, hands clutched tightly to her tea mug before she slid in the seat carefully. Jamile made sure their legs didn’t touch by facing slightly away from him. After taking a moment to sip her tea, she watched her breath stain the mug while she spoke.

“Was it the whole window thing that had you into this seat? What are you one of those people who like window everything’s? Like window seats on planes? It’s nothing special really.” Though she was lying. She was one of those people who never grew tired of watching the rain through windows. She especially loved the way the rain placed itself on the glass.

Oho, someone who could keep up with him. Nice. Elijah could get used to that. He sipped his coffee again, shaking his head a little as she spoke. "Never played musical chairs so I wouldn't know," he said with a smirk. "But considering your reaction it doesn't sound like something that would interest me anyway." Being an elemental that was born into the body of an adult left Elijah without the usual experiences that normal human children had - sometimes he wished he knew what it was like being a child, but other times he was content with the life he was given. After all, he didn't even have memories before he entered this body.

He watched her as she carefully slipped into the chair opposite of him. She turned her body in a way so as to not let their legs touch, and he couldn't help but chuckle. Elijah didn't think he was that revolting, but he was never sure how other people saw him. At least she kept talking to him, which was a bonus.

"As a matter of fact, I do like windows," he said. "But I'm guessing you do, too. If you didn't you wouldn't have chosen this table in the first place." Elijah laughed. "And you wouldn't have sat down right there with a perfect stranger." Like the girl, Elijah liked watching the rain fall upon the glass, and the sound it made when it did. Maybe it was because he was a water elemental, and he was drawn to things like rain, and just water in general.

"Elijah Clément," he said in introduction, extending a hand across the table. "Do what you want with it, but I thought I should at least introduce myself to the person I'm sharing a table with."

The rain continued to fall against the windowpane of the café. Drop upon drop of water accumulated until the point that it was almost hard to see outside. The bigger drops began to race down toward the bottom of the window unable to defy gravity anymore. Suddenly, something screeched terribly outside. Something was going on, but the people inside the café didn’t know what it was exactly. Some people were curious enough to open the door to look outside; others didn’t need to do anything at all as something flew toward the window and crashed into it. The window cracked under the pressure, but it didn’t break. Whatever had caused it was of a substantial weight.

It was the size of a basketball only covered in charred feathers. Blood streaked down the window as it slid downward. If anyone looked closely enough they would see the burned body of what was an infant harpy. It was even more disgusting than the adult version only because of the gooey flesh of its neck and face.

The attack on the café continued with four harpies flying around, waiting for someone to come out and challenge them.

Jamile tried to hide the fact that she was lightening up, a smile drawing across her face when she stated her name. Though she expected him to be a real jerk, he was more of a person who knew how to challenge her often domineering behavior. She thought she would have this man leaving her table, but instead she was starting to have a pleasant conversation. “Jamile Hart. It’s-“

She covered her ears when she heard a shrieking noise, loud enough to make her eyes squint for a moment. “Jesus, did you hear that? Sounded like someone being killed three times over.” Her ears felt like a siren was humming into her ear afterwards it was that loud. She thought it was over just with the misplaced noise. But when the blood hit the window she turned away, a disgusted expression plastered over her face. “What..What the hell?” She tightened her handbag against her side and got up, drawn to the fuss outside the café.

“I have to see what the hell is going on.”

The Therianthrope pushed passed the people inside the café and as she began to get closer outside the people were more panicked, disoriented and were throwing chairs and tables at these flying beasts, the culprits of the shrieking noise that stung her ears. The monsters twisted face alone was horrifying but the damage its talons were doing to the defenseless around the café was even worse. She turned to see if Elijah was still around, not pegging him for the running kind.

“Hey help me kick the crap out of these things!” Did they go down easily? She doubted it. She ran through some chairs and tables to look for something better than chairs to throw at these beasts. She knew she could take on her tiger form, but she was looking towards other options. Right now she was shocked but was aiming to teach these things a lesson.

He saw the slight curl that was appearing upon her lips, and it brought one to his features as well. She wasn't a bitch, and his first assessment of 'cute' was pretty spot on. She had just introduced herself when a loud scream resonated in his ears. Elemental hearing was four times as sensitive as a humans, and so it shot through his brain like a dull arrow. Pain - enough pain that his eyes saw white for a second. It subsided just in time to see the hideous creature sliding down the window, blood and wet feathers smearing the raindrops away.

Elijah was on his feet a fraction of a second faster than Jamile. They reached the doors at the same time only to face the chaos outside. The elemental's face twisted in disgust. "Harpies!" He announced before he stepped into the rain. The water was cool against the rising temperature of his skin as he went to help one of the people that had fallen on the ground. Elijah didn't need Jamile to tell him to help, but he was pleasantly surprised to see her already running into the fray.

"Sir, we have to get you inside," Elijah said to the fallen man.

"Watch out!" The man said, pointing to something that was behind Elijah. The elemental turned just in time to see a harpy swooping in. Its claws were flexed and its teeth bared to attack. Elijah lifted a hand toward the attacking beast and summoned a burst of water toward it. His aim was off, but it was a large enough stream of water that it would throw the bird off its course. It would give Elijah enough time to get the man inside.

"Jamile!" He cried out. "Get this man inside! He's hurt!" In truth, Elijah wanted the girl to stay inside, too. He could probably handle the harpies on his own even if he did get injured in the process. He was an elemental, after all, and physical injuries didn't really slow him down. But like Jamile thought of him, Elijah thought the same of the girl. She was spunky, and spunky girls didn't run from a fight.

Jamile was able to glance over at Elijah quick enough to see what he had done to fend one of the beasts off momentarily. What was that? Not bad for a water trick. In fact it was fascinating. She couldn’t say she was doing anything of use besides chucking things at the monsters she now knew as harpies.

“What the hell are harpies!!?” She screamed in his direction, nailing one of them with a chair a civilian handed her. Her aim at least wasn’t too bad for a chair thrower. “Yeah, got it! I’ll take the man inside!” Sure. Right. She then carefully made her way over to the man who was hurt and sneakily sent him towards another person to have him taken care of. Only moments later she placed herself next to Elijah, pretty pissed off about all of this going down.

“You know!” She yelled over the next shriek of a harpie. She had no idea she was just adding fuel to the fire of Elijah’s sensitive hearing. “This is technically my first FULL day here! It figures that this kind of crap happens!” She smoothed over her frantic hair and scanned the area. “Is there anything sharp lying around? There has to be a weak spot on these nasty things! You can, you know spray them and I can try and beat the crap out of them.” There was heavy snark in referring back to his water "trick", especially when she put her hand out in the fashion he did.

Jamile knew he could kick some furious ass. It just was fun to make light of the situation. Mostly because it was getting to the point where it appeared the number of civilians willing to step up to plate as far as harpie ass kicking was starting to wind down.

Oh Elijah could do more than water tricks if Jamile wanted to see something really impressive, but the elemental wasn't looking to impress anyone at that moment. He wanted to get people out of harms way, and he wanted to bring down the harpies to stop their attack. They were screaming at the top of their lungs as they dove toward whatever people remained near the café. Elijah could see that there were several other groups of harpies all over the market place, and that they weren't the only ones getting attacked.

The elemental thought it would have been obvious what harpies were. Those things, flying around attacking everyone, those were harpies. "Harpies," he said above the din of their screeches. "Are nasty fuckin' creatures with human heads and-" At that moment one of them came in toward Elijah, grabbing onto his jacket, claws digging into his flesh. The man slipped out of it and with his strength pulled the harpy to the ground. It could have flown away, but the gross bird thing just wouldn't let go once it had gripped onto him and his clothes. "Nasty bird bodies!" he said, finishing his sentence. "Scavengers," he said as he placed a foot right in the middle of its body. He wondered why they decided to attack the town in the first place; it was very unlike the creatures to do so.

Elijah's back was bleeding but he didn't seem to notice it as the rain diluted the blood, his white shirt staining pink instead of crimson. Elijah had never seen a harpy up-close before, but he had read enough about them to recognize it when he saw one. Besides, their cries were enough to identify them from other praeternatural creatures. If Jamile wanted to come see one up close, now was the time to do it.

The grotesque being under Elijah's foot was writhing like mad, craning its neck up and out in an attempt to bite the elemental's foot. Its legs were kicking upward, occasionally catching onto the hem of Elijah's pant leg.

"Welcome to Elysium," Elijah said with a smirk. "Where there's never a boring day." It was his response to her statement about being there for only a day. She must have just come in on one of the boats, and he wondered just how many ships were going to be traveling in and out of the haven now. Elijah pressed harder onto the bird's chest, and he wavered in the decision of whether or not he should take its life. He didn't even notice that two of the birds were coming straight for him even as he held one underfoot. Elijah was just oblivious at times, especially when he became introspective in his work.

“You-“ Did Elijah not feel any pain? Jamile could see great depth to Elijah’s wound and as the rain came to do some dirty sanitation work on it, his back could be a rain absorbent. She guessed now was not a time to feel sympathy for him or his back. If he didn’t even show signs of pain, why should she try and let him know?

While she watched the creature writhe under Elijah’s foot, she felt no remorse. Those buggers deserved it for causing a reign of unpleasant hell upon them. “KILL IT!” She encouraged. Not like a damsel, or like an annoying teenager. It was bossy and to the point. It was like she was stating that she would do it if he wasn’t up for doing the deed.

When Elijah gave Jamile his creative little welcome she smirked. Seeing the birds coming towards Elijah didn’t make her scream or panic, it made her smirk. “Guess I better show the place I can be just as exciting, then. By the way, I’d look out just in case I mess this up.”

Since she was the oldest of the three and knew how to shift the longest, Jamile was able to sprint and jump while taking form. She ran towards one of the harpies which at first looked like a suicide mission but in seconds her skin started taking on the color orange, the black stripes smoothing over. Her bones may have made sickening noises of movement while they shifted their place but it did not hurt when she took form.

The minute her claws were out, she slammed them into the one of the harpies, glad it made a noise so Elijah knew there was still another one coming his way. The tigress brought it to the ground and dug her talons into the flesh of its neck. There was no way she was letting her mouth go anywhere near those things though her teeth may have helped in killing the monster faster. Her goal would just to claw the hell into the flesh of the monster probably more times than necessary.

Communication was now limited, but she was sure ass kicking was still in place.

Elijah felt pain like anyone else, but he chose to ignore it. It would heal anyway and he didn't have time to crumple to the ground and cry like a baby. He'd feel it afterward, though. Harpy claws were not child's play and if he wasn't a fast healer they would have definitely left a mark.

The harpy on the ground was still trying to get out from under Elijah's weight, but to no avail. The elemental wasn't going to let it go anytime soon even though a part of him didn't want to take its life, but he knew that if he didn't this creature would not be as merciful to him if it had the chance to take his life. The elemental looked down at the creature with disgust just as Jamile said something about 'looking out'. Elijah looked behind him just in time to see the girl turning into a tiger, pouncing one of the harpies that threatened to attack him. Impressive, he thought. It figured that the girl would be a tiger.

There was still one approaching, and Elijah took quick action. With one hand he summoned a water-filled bubble and surrounded the harpy that was underneath his foot. It would drown without him having to lay a finger upon it. He then turned his attention to the approaching harpy and formed a spear out of water. As an elemental, Elijah had to power to control almost every aspect of water and bend it to his will. Here, he created a weapon, one that was fluid and yet firm. Elijah wielded it expertly, keeping one harpy, then another, at bay.

Here Jamile thought that water was just good for drinking and enjoying a swim in. Now she would think different every time she looked down at a glass of water. So much for teasing him about his ability, she needed him right now. The cowering people in the café needed him right now. But hey, she was one hell of a sidekick. Not everyday a tiger and a water wielding guy worked together. Though Elijah could take these pesky buggers by himself with a simple movement of the fingers, Jamile motioned for them to run further into the market. Now as a feline she could hear blood curdling screams tearing through the air. Apparently more must have come out to play. She couldn’t help but wonder what had caused them to come out and wreak such hellish havoc.

She ran ahead of Elijah to try and follow the noise of the new set of victims, newly aware of what was going on. On her way towards the new victims a harpy swooped down and aimed to mark her back but she swerved to the side, making a small growling sound equivalent to a curse when one of its talons sunk into her hip causing her to lose balance and slide slightly. This only fueled her determination to kill her attacker though the pain on her hip was a bit distraction.

No way was she showing that she was slowed down by her run in with the harpy. She sped up and tore her attacker in half, willing to use claw and teeth on her little dear friend. She spat a set of feathers from her mouth and continued running onwards to a new set of people.

The stench was near sickening and the harpies seemed to be sitting there idly, waiting for a good time. Either they wanting to be taken down easily and surrender or they had spotted them and like a chess game were waiting for their move.

As strong as Elijah was he wasn't able to take down more than one harpy at a time, and by the looks of it there were at least thirty or forty of them around the market place. Once he was done here, he'd have to go after some of the other ones. Hopefully, the creatures would get scared away after a while; unfortunately, harpies were very persistent beings.

The elemental was busy with two harpies this time, both of which were doing an excellent job at dodging his attacks. Truth be told, he wasn't really going all out with his moves. He was fast and flexible, and he could have killed them swiftly; but there was a part of him that hoped they would fly away, and that he wouldn't have to take its life. Again, he knew they wouldn't be so kind to him, so he upped his game a small fraction.

Elijah swung his water weapon in the air, elongating it past one of the harpy's head. To others it might have looked like he missed his mark, but in reality it was just part of his plan. As the water shot into the air Elijah commanded the end to take the shape of a sickle, and when it did the liquid weapon shot back toward the harpy's neck. The edge of the weapon crystallized, forming an icy blade that cut through the harpy's neck once it reached it.

The deformed head fell to the ground and rolled a few inches before it stopped. Elijah had barely a moment to rest before the other harpy came at him. It was close enough that it was able to bite down on his forearm even briefly. Elijah let out a growl of pain, and punched the deformed face with his free hand. With a quick and powerful flick, Elijah was able to fling the harpy away from him, causing it to crash into a nearby chair. It screeched, and got to its feet quickly. Elijah shot it with a hard blast of water, one that knocked it out of commission.

The elemental then turned into his purest form, a huge moving body of water that traveled toward Jamile and the harpies she was dealing with. He was imposing like this, but he couldn't be harmed like this either. If they attacked him they would just down their wings and claws in water, and that was the last thing they wanted to do.

Show off Jamile thought and watched as the harpies didn’t stand a damn chance against Elijah with his water abilities. It gave a moment to rest on the sidelines; taking down the harpies who were already half stalled by the fierce attacks on them by what she guessed was the water elemental. No one could simply use water as a weapon like perhaps a mage in ways she had seen in video games her brother had played now and again. This was something more.

When Elijah turned into a huge body of water she stood there, dumfounded, staring up at him like he was the eighth wonder. Okay, now I can’t say that’s not impressive. She ran out of the way, her paws making loud pit pat noises on the ground while she felt the wind of the harpies falling down behind her.

The Therianthrope glanced behind her, watching the body of water and the harpies it was taking down. She leapt onto a table and continued to watch Elijah like she had just been told God was her cousin.

Elijah didn't mean to show off, he was just tired of all the creatures attacking him and the people in the town. He wouldn't be able to take them all down, but he could drop a few of them to make it easier on everyone else. He could stay in this form for up to 24-hours, but that wasn't necessary today; after a few minutes, he morphed back into his human form, clothes dry but hair and body dripping wet.

He looked around for Jamile smiling only when he saw her sitting on a table in the distance. At least she was safe, and he could rest easy as it seemed the other harpies were being handled by other praeternaturals in the town. It was the first time he had seen random people working together for a common goal; it was refreshing. The water elemental walked toward the therianthrope slowly. He pushed back his wet hair form his forehead and opened his mouth to say something to the tiger.

Suddenly, a harpy appeared out of nowhere, swooping in sharply toward the girl. "Watch out!" He said as he turned into his elemental form once more. He spread out on the ground, flowing all over on the cobblestone pavement before he came up behind the therianthrope at the last second like a geyser. It caused the harpy to veer off course though it still landed on the ground ungracefully. The rest would be up to Jamile, if she wanted to handle the last harpy in their section.

Jamile was more than happy to finish off the last harpy. Her talons easily dug into the wet flesh of the monsters and before it could make a sound of protest, she finished it off much like her ways of coming off to a person she did not approve of. It was straight down and to the point, its neck slashed open to prevent that horrid shrieking from ringing into the air. She was glad it was over, at least for now though the café sure stunk and she was sad to have had their day end up on such an..Interesting level.

She had to say that out of all the men she had met in her life, Elijah was the most interesting. Not only did she get to know the most about him a la, harpy attack. But he was a nice challenge thanks to his snarky behavior. Right now though, her guard had to be top notch.

She looked around, then to Elijah, signaling that she saw no more harpies in the area or ahead of her. Much of the noise she heard was in the distance. But it sounded like the harpies were the ones in trouble.

They had successfully defended their area - an elemental and a therianthrope. An unlikely team and yet it seemed as if the combination worked well; either that, or Jamile and Elijah just clicked. It had been a long time since Elijah was able to use his powers in such a way, and it felt good to be able to let it out. The power of water was unstoppable in so many ways, and he knew how to wield it in order to take advantage of its power.

He smiled at Jamile after she killed the harpy, arching a brow at the tiger to show his amusement. "I think you're having just a little too much fun," he said, his mouth twitching as he held back a smile. "You know," Elijah paused a little here, looking off into the distance toward the sound of screeching harpies. "You could change back now, y'know," he said while glancing down at her. There was a distinct smirk upon his features now, and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He knew that she would be naked once she returned to her human form, and Elijah was perfectly happy with that idea. In fact, he welcomed it.

Jamile always was hesitant in using her power around others. She always tried to use others means to defend herself before transforming, but around Elijah she didn’t feel so strange being able to do something that was out of the ordinary. He could turn into water god’s sakes. A power force of water in fact.

Oh so he wanted a peep show? Maybe he could see a twinkle in her eyes while her in feline form. She guessed that for saving his ass she could sort of grant his wish.

Moving behind him she let herself take on her human form and tugged on his shirt. “You mind? It’s a little cold outside and you can be a bit of a gentleman and hand me your shirt. Peek over and I’ll stab you in the jugular.” She was joking, but there was a hint of seriousness in it. She didn’t care secretly if he challenged her and tried to look over. Though she was a little shy about how she looked, she knew that she was at least in shape and they weren’t ten years old.

She continued to tug his shirt and leaned in to whisper in his ear. “Please? Pretty please?”

So the tiger was a minx, one who played the flirt card quite well. She had turned back into a human behind him, and even went as far as to whisper in his ear. Elijah had half a mind to turn around and take a peep at her. She probably had a cute, little body underneath all the clothes she wore, but Aubert taught him manners from the moment he was created, and sneaking a peek at a naked woman without permission was something he wouldn't do. That didn't mean he wouldn't tease her about it.

"Nice ass," he said even though he hadn't really seen it. Elijah had taken off his suit jacket a moment before, and he held it in the crook of his arm. "Can't give you the shirt off my back," he said with a smirk. "But you can have this jacket." He held his arm around to the side, his black jacket draped out for her to take.

"It is a bit nipply out, isn't it," he said, pushing the teasing a little bit further. "Hurry and put the jacket on before you poke someone's eye out." He chuckled under his breath and turned around when she was done. "Well, Ms. Hart," he said looking down at her. There were still harpies screeching in the distance, and Elijah wanted to help in any way he could, but he also didn't want to leave Jamile alone. "Ready for more action, or shall I escort you home?"

“You should see my ass when you actually look at it.” Jamile teased, unsure if he actually looked at it, but she would call the bluff. She took the wet jacket and wrapped it around her, buttoning it up hastily. It was indeed cold outside and when he called her out on how her body was reacting to it, she punched his arm good and hard. “You can be such a smartass.” And she liked it. But of course he would never know that. At least for now.

“If anyone suffers a poked eye, it is going to be you so I would be careful. All I have to do is open this jacket and you are in trouble mr. Before you even get a peek you’ll have no eyes.” She looked onwards to where she heard the harpies and grabbed a nearby weapon that she discovered. Hm, a sword. Impressive. Much better than the chairs.

“Let’s go for the harpy killing. I am always a girl of action.”

She began to run ahead, knowing he would catch up in no time.

I think we can end the scene with jamile's next comment? Like, either they can go off and help more people (we can assume they did without posting anywhere else) or he could walk her home. It's up to you ^^
