Sunday: November 4, 2007
Who: Hayate and Chris
When: Early morning
Where: Hayate's Cottage
What: Hayate wakes Chris to show her what he brought back from the harpy nest.

When he returned that night from the nest of the harpies, Hayate placed everything he had taken with him into its normal place within his home. The sword went back into the extra room in its case. His warm clothing went back into the closet. He walked over to the bathroom to take a shower. After all, his trip to the mountains left him disheveled and dirty. Once he was washed up, the vampire had changed into light clothes for wearing around the house, a loose white cotton shirt with matching pants, and headed into his bedroom. There, fast asleep upon his bed, was Chris. He stood in the doorway for a moment, watching her as she slept. The girl was breathing deeply, tummy down on the mattress, a sheet covering her up. Hayate's fingers idly tapped against the wooden door frame as he gazed across the room at her sleeping form.

Finally, he stepped into the room, retrieving the necklace from within his pocket. The clasp was broken, which was a foul of the harpies, but it was in one piece. He sat down on the bed next to Chris, reaching out with his free hand to gently brush the hair off of her forehead and out of her eyes. Silence pervaded the room as his fingers swept away the stray strands of blonde hair, and he brushed the back of his hand against her skin. "Chris," Hayate said softly. He repeated her name again and again, urging her to awaken.

Several minutes passed before she realized that someone was brushing back her hair, and touching her skin. She heard her name being called over and over again, and her mind incorporated that into the dream she was having. Chris was dreaming of her parents. She saw them in her mind's eye but they were far away from her. Too far for her to reach even though she was running toward them. They were calling out for her, or at least she thought they were. But as she drew out of her slumber, she noticed it wasn't her parents' voices at all. The girl opened her eyes slowly, her pupil's widening to adjust to the dimly lit room.

When her surroundings came into focus she became aware of the person sitting on the bed next to her. "Hayate," she said while stifling a yawn. She moved her body so she could rest her head on his leg, her face facing upward. She was still sleepy, and so her eyes closed when she settled comfortably against him. "Hi," she said again, a smile drawing upon her lips.

Hayate smiled down at her, tilting his head to the side. "I brought something for you," he said, holding up the necklace by the chain. It dangled above Chris's face and shone softly under the dim lighting of his bedroom. "The clasp is broken, but I know someone who could fix it and return it the way it was before." In that particular moment between them, Hayate wanted to see her face expand into a large grin as she reached up and took the necklace from him. There were moments when her happiness meant the most to him, even if there were moments when it seemed of little importance to the vampire. In this moment, it mattered.

Her eyes widened as the necklace dangled above her and a very wide grin crossed over her features. "Oh my gosh..." she said before she sat upright on the bed. She turned to face the vampire, her eyes moving from the necklace to looking at him. "Oh my gosh! You got it back for me!" Even though she didn't have a doubt that he would get it back for her, she didn't think he would get it back this quickly. Her arms immediately went around Hayate's neck, hugging him tightly. "Thank you so much," she said, a little teary eyed. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She said, planting a kiss on his cheek in different areas every time she thanked him. In the end, she kissed him on the lips, pouring all her emotion into it.

Chris's reaction delighted him, causing his eyes to brighten in some inexplainable way. He had wanted to get the necklace back for her, even if he was not sure why. When her arms flew around his neck to grip him in a hug, Hayate slowly wrapped his arms around her as well. Her kisses all over his face caught him off-guard, and he was not sure how he was supposed to react to something like that. After her final kiss, though, he simply kissed her back.

He was glad that she was happy, and he was happy as well.
