Who: Mitsuko and Irei
When: Night
Where: The Wine Bar
What: Discussions of dark, depressing things

Mitsuko sat at the bar, glass sitting in front of her. She slipped a slender finger around the rim idly. She wasn't exactly sure what she was doing here. It just seemed like the thing to do. Yes, her breakup with Loki had been amicable, but she couldn't say she was at all happy with the outcome of their relationship. She supposed it was better than the end of her last serious relationship. At least this time she hadn't ended up with a knife buried in her.

She didn't want to be at home tonight. She couldn't stand Logan ignoring her any longer. Ignoring everyone. He just stayed in his room, painting. There was nothing she could say to him to make him feel better. He was just... Lost. She couldn't stand to look at him and not be able to do anything. It was as if the last few months of progress hadn't happened. That he was again the mute boy who had just lost his parents.

And there were poor Kaiya and Faye. Mitsuko had seen death before. She'd known people who'd been killed. That happened in her line of work. But it was nothing like this. She'd not seen the bodies herself, but she'd heard what her brother had seen. It was not just a killing. It was a butchering.

She hissed in a breath, flashing back to the memory of a man trying to stab a jagged pool cue through her. The bloodlust in his eyes. Were those eyes the last thing Kaiya and Faye saw?

Picking up her glass, Mitsuko drained it quickly. She had the fleeting idea of picking up some guy and using him shamelessly for the night. It might have made her feel better to indulge in carnal pleasures, to forget about everything, if only for a fleeting moment.

But she doubted she would be able to pick anyone up in her mood. While she had a lot of faith in her good looks, it did take some finesse to pick up a guy. With such dark thoughts in her head, she would no doubt scare any sane man away.

She gestured to her glass, wordlessly asking the barkeep for a refill. She was certain they would go through this routine many times tonight.

As if on cue, Irei stumbled up to the bar. He hadn't wanted to be alone, even if he was really speaking to anyone lately, and Sascha had left for that Disco party. Irei ordered a double of his usual before he looked three stools down and saw Miss Mitsuko who seemed to be drinking her troubles away as well. "You know, it is surprising how much death has occurred in this little community in such a short time. Seems less like we live in a Utopia, but rather a smaller version, more compact verison of the world as it originally was." Irei spoke to no one specifically, just aloud so people could hear really.

He reached over and touched Mitsuko's arm. "I'm sorry about Loki. It probably just wasn't the right time." He hadn't seen Mitsuko look so down before. Even in the wake of her father's death she had been at least flirting with him as they drank themselves into inebriation. He brought the glass up to his lips and smiled a little. "At least you are a free woman again, ne?" He drank the amber colored liquid and shut his eyes as the burning sensation traveled down his throat to his belly.

"I can not believe they are both gone. Everything is all messed up. Should I call to her?" Irei placed a hand on his face, willing the lights to stop spinning and to keep his focus. He had been drinking most of the day, and was certainly passed the stage of being pleasantly buzzed. His speech went in and out of Japanese and English seemingly without cause though he was apparently still capable of coherent thought as he leaned against the bar.

Mitsuko glanced over at Irei as he entered. She had spent enough time around him that she recognized his scent when he was in close enough proximity. She sighed deeply as the barkeep poured her another drink. Mitsuko seized his wrist, taking the bottle from him with her free hand. "Let's save some time," she said quietly, setting the bottle down on the bar. "I'm going to drink it all anyway."

She cocked her head slightly and gave a small, bitter laugh at his comment on the state of Elysium. "The world died," Mitsuko replied, raising her glass to her lips. "Everyone lost people, everyone was traumatized... Even without trauma, the Council doesn't seem to discriminate against anyone. No background checks..." She laughed once again. "Hell, if they did I doubt we would have gotten in. Not really the makings of a Utopian society."

Mitsuko shivered a bit at the touch of Irei's hand. She wasn't sure she was thrilled at the idea of talking about her breakup, but if anyone knew her issues with her relationship with Loki, it was Irei. And he seemed so drunk it was doubtful he would remember anything she said in the morning. She slid down the few seats to sit beside Irei. "It's not in Loki's nature to stay. And it's not mine to wait." She took another drink, draining the glass quickly. "I've known for a while things were heading this way. I just needed to admit it. Let go of the idea I can be anything but what I've always been." She managed a small, bittersweet smile. "You're right. I am. As much as I cared for Loki... I do feel... Liberated. That I can be myself again"

Mitsuko bit her lower lip, reaching out and touching Irei's shoulder. It took her a moment to figure out what he was talking about. But he had been close to Kaiya and he was a necromancer... He did have the power to talk to her now. "I think... It's still too fresh. You have to let yourself grieve." She paused for a moment. "But I don't know if I would take that advice if I had your power."

Irei had actually been there for a while. Perhaps at some point he had gotten up and wondered out of the bar; talking to himself, lying to himself, and hating himself; but he had circled back around and returned to the warm glow that the bar offered. Not to mention the alcohol it contained. He downed another glass.

His current predicament came about because of his guilt over the pretty faes’ deaths. While Irei was surrounded by death and dying most of his life, there had only been three people whose deaths have ever affected him: his mother, Sato-sensei, and now Kaiya. He hadn’t even known Kaiya for very long, and yet he felt guilty because he had received the warning and hadn’t done enough to protect her. No one could tell him if she was wearing the onyx necklace he had given her as a present, but he certainly hadn’t been able to find it.

Now every fucking time it rained, he would think of her.

He looked at Mitsuko. “The world’s not dead,” he laughed shortly. “If it were, I would be curled up in a little ball on the floor clutching my head. It’s not a pleasant thing hearing millions of souls crying out during and after death. Can you imagine? That’s what is was like when I first came here. I couldn’t move from my room because I didn’t have the mental capacity to do so.” Irei’s blue eyes were lit up, and his cheeks held a rosy tint that was often a sign of having drunk too much. His body rocked slightly on the stool. He was fidgety and he was constantly moving his hands, pulling off his bracelets, moving them to the other wrist, and then replacing them back where they were.

He needed something else to focus on. But what? Ah, Mitsuko. Thinking about her had a soothing effect on his troubled mind. “Ah, well I remember a woman telling me once that she needed to find someone who made her feel better about herself. That’s not right. I mean more than herself. Certainly not ashamed or insecure.” Irei ordered another drink and the bartender looked at him and started to shake his head, when Irei rose up, reached out, and grabbed the man by the front of his shirt. “Give me another drink, or I will sure as Hell walk back there and get it for myself.”

Irei sat back down and let the bewildered guy go. Irei was so slim and he seemed so delicate looking that he truly surprised the man behind the bar. He had hardly seen the Asian man as any sort of threat and the bartender just scooted away from him.

“She was so naive, and I was an idiot. You know someone warned me this would happen a while ago. They sent me a doll that was strung up like she had been, but there was no mention of Faye. There was another doll sent to me, though, who was hanging like Kaiya.” Irei gave Mitsuko a look that he hoped was meaningful.

Mitsuko was grateful for the company. She wasn't really all that good about being alone. It left her with her thoughts and that wasn't a good thing in her mind. Even on her best day, she didn't much being left on her own. And Irei was always good company, even if they were both not in the greatest of moods.

She knew she should go home. She should have been trying to get her brother out of his shell. She should have been doing anything but sitting around and getting drunk. But for her, it was the only solution to her current dilemma.

She could feel the grief coming off Irei in waves. The depression. The dark feelings. It was in every pose, every look. He didn't seem to be making any secret of how he was feeling. Maybe he couldn't. He also seemed to be drunker than she had ever seen him. "That sounds..." She trailed off, unsure how to finish that sentence. "Fuck."

She frowned deeply when he fidgeted and played with his jewelry. "Hey..." She reached out a took his hand. "You're spoiling your cool mystique, Irei-san. I thought you worked pretty hard at that."

Mitsuko sighed deeply as she filled her glass once again, bringing it to her lips. "I think I want to have sex with someone tonight." She looked around the bar. "It would be nice. For just one second to think of something else other than..." She gestured to nothing in particular. "All of this."

She frowned slightly at Irei's rough treatment of the barkeeper. Not that she hadn't seen this sort of thing before, but not from Irei.

But her frown was nothing compared to the look on her face when Irei glanced at her. When he said he was sent another doll. "It wasn't Faye. It was..." She swallowed hard, panic beginning to settle in her stomach. "Are you sure? It was... Someone else you know."

Mitsuko drained her glass quickly. "Faye and I talked before she died.... She said she and Kaiya were attacked by someone. The same man attacked me, here... Put me in the Medical Pavilion." She began to drink straight from the bottle. "Logan told me you mentioned having an encounter with him too." She brushed a hand over Irei's neck. "I think I might have seen evidence of that."

She turned back to her drink. "Do you think that might have something to do with your dolls?"

Irei looked at her. Cool mystique? Was he not being cool? He looked at the beaded bracelets he always wore and then just leaned his head in to his hands. He certainly didn’t need anymore to drink. Sascha would be upset with him in the morning when Irei won’t want to move because of the disabling headache he was certain to have. He had to consciously stop himself from fidgeting.

His hair was still long. He normally wore it back in a pony tail to keep the dark strands from his face. He reached back and pulled the elastic that held it back. He smiled as his hair was as long as Mitsuko’s now. He wondered absently if from behind they looked like two girls at the bar. He laughed shortly.

“If you say so Mitsu-chan. If you want sex, I’m sure it will be easy to find someone looking the way you do.” Irei reached out and rain his fingertips along her cheek as he had long forgotten the bartender and the fact that he still hadn’t brought him another drink.

Irei nodded. “They were horribly made dolls. The main one had blue eyes and said “kisama” and it held two other dolls. One was a fae with dark hair, the other was...” His voice dropped in volume. “And there was you.”

Irei looked at his puncture scar that was the last bit of reality he felt about his experiences. “That’s Hayate. He’ll swear up and down he didn’t do it, but,” Irei started laughing. “I really doubt someone like Zach Kitano would do that.”

“I don’t know what those dolls were trying to say. At first I thought it was meant toward me, but then Hayate has blue eyes too. Do you know of any other blue eyed Asians?” While normally that question would seem sarcastic, but Irei was actually curious if there were any other Asian men out their with blue eyes. There were two he knew of.

Mitsuko had seen Irei drunk before. But never to this extent. But it seemed like a good day for it. A good week for it. A good... Many things for it. Things were just so bad at the moment. She knew Irei had been friends with Kaiya and that seemed be the biggest contributor to his mood. No surprise. Logan was just as bad off. It seemed the shy litle fae had touch many in her short time in Elysium.

She'd briefly glimpsed Irei in his Halloween costume, so she didn't question the long hair. It worked quite nicely on Irei. Of course, the man could wear a wet paper bag and still manage to look fantastic. She was fighting the impulse to reach back and play with it. It looked soft.

"Mm." Mitsuko nodded. "I suppose I could. Maybe I don't feel like it tonight. I haven't quite decided yet." She leaned into Irei's touch, feeling her heart speed up a tiny bit. If Irei were to offer, she would unquestioningly have sex with him. But he was in a dark drunk mood. She wasn't much better. She wasn't sure she wanted sleeping with Irei for the first time to be tinged with such dark memories. Another time.

Irei's confirmation that she was the second doll definitely put her out of the mood for physical contact. It sent a chill up her spine. The idea that someone would do that. "You sent me a bloodstained rope. At least, someone pretending to be you. Do you... Do you remember that?" She bit her lip. "Most pranks don't involve actual blood, even if it's just animal blood." She wasn't really sure why she had mentioned that, but it seemed to fit with the morbid gift of a doll of her.

Mitsuko took another drink. "He's a vampire... He admitted that much to me. But he said he'd never met me. Tried to get me fired when I confronted him about it. Said I was just biased against vampires. But yeah... How many vampires are there in town who happen to look similar?" She paused for a moment. "He didn't like the taste of my blood. Too animal. So he tried to make Kitsune Kebab with a pool cue. I've been in a lot of hairy situations, but I don't think...." She shivered, looking away, ashamed. "Well, I've never felt like that. Scared."

Mitsuko kept her eyes averted from Irei's. "He didn't have blue eyes when I... When he... Well, when we crossed paths. Not the first time." She shook her head. "It has to be him, right? I mean... It can't be that there's more than one of them, right? But...." With some much drink, some doubt was starting to come out. But right now, her theory with Faye seemed ridiculous. Or did it? Just as she started to speak with Faye about Hayate, Faye was killed.

Irei shook his head suddenly and looked back at her. He needed to focus. Everything was coming in a delay. He wasn't completely drunk yet, although he would have been the wrong choice to have behind the wheel if they still had cars. He would have preferred a motorcycle anyways.

He continued touching her cheek, letting the cracked skin of his knuckles run along her smooth skin. He had bruises and cuts on his hands around his knuckles and parts of his fingers. He had obviously been punching something had had torn up part of his hands

"Ah, I remember you sending me a note asking why I sent you a bloody rope. Someone sent the same thing to Kaiya. She brought it to me also asking why I would send something like that." Irei bowed his head. What had happened to his drink?

"Oh, I know he's a vampire." Irei laughed softly. "I think I have first hand experience." He turned and pointed toward the tavern's restroom. "Right in there to be exact." Irei still wondered why Hayate had taken him home. There was no way he could have made it home in his condition that night.

"But he's not just a vampire. Vampires can't change their appearance at will like he can. He makes himself younger looking, can change his hair color, and likely his eye color as well as if he had some sort of glamor."

She had had a run in with the vampire as well? He had scared her. Why wasn't Irei scared of the little blood sucker? It was a thrill for him and Hayate may have been right. He probably had a growing obsession with him.

"He changes. Blond, brunette," Irei shrugged. "Either he has an assortment of incredibly well made wigs and colored contacts, or he's part something else."

The alcohol was starting to get to Mitsuko as well. She hadn't drunk as much as Irei, but she had been doing a lot very quickly, not to mention her tiny frame and the fact she hadn't eaten. Things were starting to blur just a bit around the edges. Not to mention she was being a little free in what she was saying.

Mitsuko sighed deeply as Irei caressed her. It felt nice to be touched by someone in such a tender manner. She noted the cuts and rough skin, but she didn't comment on it. She knew Irei wasn't having a pleasant time right now, not surprisingly. And she knew Irei was protective of himself. She still had to earn Irei's trust. If he wanted to tell her what happened, he would tell her.

With a sigh, Mitsuko tilted the bottle she held to fill Irei's glass. It was better if the barkeeper stay out of it anyway. So he wouldn't overhear their conversation. "You know, that doesn't reassure me at all." Then, this wasn't a time for reassurance.

"Well, I have first hand experience to...." Mitsuko trailed off, seeing where Irei was pointing to. She blinked, frowning deeply. "You don't mean...." She slammed her hand on the bar and leaned towards Irei. "You had sex with Hayate?" She hissed, her voice quiet. "Are you tell me you got bit while he fucked you? So why did I end up just getting bit and tossed around like a ragdoll? Now I'm even more pissed off at that little parasite! If I'm going to get bit, I at least wanna have a happy during it."

Wrinkling her nose, Mitsuko turned back to drink. "Faye told me he told Kaiya he was a Fae. Faes have the power of glamour." She cocked her head as she stirred her drink with her finger. She then sucked the amber liquid off the slender digit. "I lie a lot. And lies are always best when there's a bit of truth to them. Either that or he was just trying to get in close to her.... Which is very possible."

Irei watched as her slender hand filled his glass. He was very focused on the liquid as it poured from the bottle. He rubbed his forehead and shut his eyes, because he was starting to feel dizzy. The sensible part of him that still maintained a marginal voice was screaming at him to quit because he still had that long walk home.

Like always, Irei ignored that little voice and picked up the glass after she finished pouring. The noises and thoughts that were always present in his brain thanks to the rift between his reality and the spirit world were drowned out from understanding as he drank. Alcohol was very precious to him as a tool; he just happened to abuse it a little too often.

"Did I have sex with Hayate? Apparently so, although I haven't gotten him to admit what happened yet. He pulled me into the bathroom and we fucked. He bit me right at the end there and I passed out. Woke back up in my bedroom the next day."

Irei had had quite a few confrontations where Hayate had almost refused to acknowledge him. It had been twelve years since he had been released from the hospital, and only just now was he starting to wonder if maybe he actually was a little crazy.

"A vampire who is part fae?" Irei had to navigate through the cloud of alcohol fuzzing his brain. He remembered his first experience with Kaiya and they had nearly slept together on his couch. There had been a shimmery dust on her skin, and he had had the feeling of being high when he was so close to her.

Irei leaned back slightly in his seat and looked up at the wooden ceiling. But if he was part fae then that meant he could use what the West called "Fairy glamour" to enhance or change his appearance. Similar to what Kitsune do as well with the illusions.

"Well that explains a lot."

Mitsuko refilled her own glass once she was finished with Irei's. She sighed deeply, resting against her hand, her elbow on the bar. She looked at the bottle still in her hand. How full had it been when she got her hands on it? She set the bottle down and lifted her glass to her lips. "Kanpai, she murmured, her voice more than a little laced with irony.

She glanced over at Irei, eyebrow quirked slightly. "He doesn't exactly admit to a lot." Her lower lip jutted out in a pout. "All he did was make out with me a little before he chomped down on me." Her head lolled and she turned to Irei. "There something wrong with me? I mean, if you were a psychopath who wanted to bite me, you'd want a crack at this first." She gestured to her body. She furrowed her brow, a thought coming to her mind. "Maybe I don't have anything to worry about with him hanging around Chris..." She realized she was getting really off-topic and shook her head. She blamed the alcohol.

"Mm." Mitsuko nodded. "Maybe. I dunno. I don't exactly have a lot of information on the parasite." She stretched. "This probably isn't the best time to discuss him. I can't really think straight."

Irei stopped suddenly and turned to look at Mitsuko. He eyed her and tried to comprehend what it was she was saying. Apparently Hayate didn't have sex with her before he bit her. Was she really upset about that? "Well if it makes you feel better, he looked awfully drunk he dragged me to the bathroom."

While rubbing his forehead, Irei watched the young woman suddenly become much less passionate and far more disheartened. "Mitsu-chan, am I to understand that you are so sexually frustrated at the moment that you are pinning for a man you seem to detest?" Irei grinned a bit. "Sounds like you need to get laid."

"It's fine. I don't think there is anyone who knows a vast amount about that vampire, but with multiple people know certain small things and then that knowledge comes together...Well, let's just say I think our friend Hayate is being a little careless."

"Mm." Mitsuko wrinkled her nose, considering her answer. She then nodded. "You know, it does." She furrowed her brow. "I didn't actually know vampires could get drunk..." Good to know. Any bit of information on possible weaknesses was a plus.

Straightening up, Mitsuko glared at Irei. "I'm not pining..." She scowled deeply. "Half the guys I've slept with I detested. It's not like it's something new. And... Yes." She was incredibly frustrated. "I really, really do."

Mitsuko rested her arms on the bar and then rested her head against her arms. "That's lucky for us, isn't it? I'm trying to find out everything I can. I'm going to make him sorry he ever came to Elysium.
