Friday: November 2, 2007
Who: Everyone
When: Afternoon
Where: Town Hall
What: The nominees for the Vice Council are announced!

The Head Council had been busy as of late with the homicides of Faye Capricia and Kaiya Sato. It had filled the priestess's heart with much sorrow knowing that someone had deliberately taken the lives of the innocent fae. Not only that, but it was done by a fellow citizen, someone who lived in the haven with them all. The question on the priestess's mind was how were they to ensure everyone's safety when the danger came from within?

Theora didn't have much time to ponder that question, however, since it was time to announce the nominees for the Vice Council. She put on a smile for the gathered crowd, and stepped up to the podium to speak. "Citizens of Elysium," she began, her aura exuding a calm glow to ease the worries of the people. "Thank for you for coming out her today to meet those who have been nominated for the Vice Council positions. I will call out the names of those who have been nominated, and, if they so wish he, or she, may accept the nomination and give a short speech to the audience. However, if the nominee wishes to decline, they may do so as well."

The priestess waited for the small whispers in the crowd to die down before she continued. She looked at her paper with the names of all of those who had been nominated. Hopefully, some of them would be here today to accept their nomination. She began to read from the list slowly, as to give each nominee time to respond.

"Amada Ontiveros-Smith... Beatrice Darcy-Bertrnd... Corisanthias Xyllaniasodas... Devin Blair... Dominic Powell... Giles Audley... Leon Saunders... Malcolm Gray... Midori Kamiyama... Peter Ross... Pietro Conté... Sascha Connolly... Scarlet Faherty... Travis Nielsen... Zane Smith."

Theora allowed each person who accepted their nomination a few moments to speak to the crowd, stating why they would be good for one of the Vice Council positions. Once they were finished with their miniature speeches, Theora took to the podium once more.

"Our candidates will now begin their campaigning to garner your votes. This will continue until January of next year, when you will be placing our final votes for the positions. Thank you again for your time, and may Elune be with you."

- To have your character accept their nomination, simply reply to this thread with their name in the subject and "Nomination Acceptance" next to it. Write up a small narrative of them coming to the stage and giving a short, one to two minute speech to the people about why they are qualified for the position. Afterward, have them leave the stage. Don't forget to actually have them giving their speech in the narrative!

- You don't have to reply to this thread with an acceptance speech! Characters may, after this date, send a letter to a Head Council member to accept their nomination and explain why they are qualified for the job.

- If your character wishes to decline the nomination, you may write a narrative of them doing so. Not replying in any form or fashion results in a purposeful decline of the nomination.

- Finally, if you have more than one of your characters nominated, you must make a decision of which one you would like to serve because only one of your characters may run for Vice Council in order to keep things fair for all players.

Leon Saunders-Nomination Acceptance

Leon was the type of person who took all Town Hall Meetings very seriously. It was like all the meetings he attended back home. With all the serious events going on in Elysium, he firmly believed everyone should be attending now just as religiously as everyone else was prior to the more serious events.

He was honestly quite shocked he was nominated and was hesitant to go up and state his acceptance. What was he to say? He guess he would just have to let it come out naturally? He wasn’t a man who could boast about himself or his talents, so this may have been a bit of a tough one.

“Hello.” He stated it loud and clear for everyone to hear. “I’m a Therianthrope. Most who know me see me as familiar because I work in the Medical Pavilion. For those of you know don’t know what I do, I’m a Psychologist. To be honest, what would benefit the council most on my end would probably be my professional skills as a doctor over the abilities I have as a Therianthrope. I’m very good with interrogation and I work and have worked will with a highly diverse set of people. I always stay calm in situations and I am a the one to choose if you’re looking for someone who is highly organized.” He wouldn’t say it out loud, but he was a bit of a neat freak for orginization of all kinds.

He gladly stepped down and welcomed the next person to speak.

Sascha Connolly: Nomination Acceptance

Something about the situation vaguely reminded Sascha of a commencement ceremony, and he couldn't quite keep a grin of amusement off his face. Time for the speeches, was it? Not a problem in the slightest- he'd only made a career out of giving lectures, after all.

Sascha waited until the previous speaker began to return to his seat before approaching the podium, giving the other man a smile and a wink as they passed one another. The assembly was fairly huge, and Sascha tried to single out a few familiar faces as he took his place.

"It seems we've got a pretty respectable group of candidates here, doesn't it? I feel privileged to be listed among them." He gave a nod to the crowd in acknowledgement of his opponents as he spoke, making sure to scale back his Southern accent until it was nigh undetectable, just as he had in his teaching days. "I think we're all aware just how much of a burden this position will place on us, but it's an honorable burden, and one I'd be more than happy to bear."

"For those who don't know me, I've worked as a librarian here for the last few months. In my life before the haven, I taught literature at New York University, and if there's one thing I learned during that time, it's the importance of having a diversity of perspectives. Very rarely does one solution mean all things to all people, and I promise to respect and honor the differences each of Elysium's citizens brings to the table. We all deserve the chance to live our lives in relative peace, and in order to have that option, we need to work together."

Sascha nodded again to the crowd before stepping down from the podium. He hadn't specifically mentioned his telepathic abilities, but it probably worked to his advantage; at least he'd bought himself a little more time to mentally and physically discipline himself. And anyway, he was now effectively running for public office- the questions would come soon enough, he was sure.

Giles Audley: Nomination Acceptance

Giles was not surprised his name was called, but he was surprised that he was still awake this far into the Town Hall Meeting. While of course he attended, he found himself accidentally falling asleep. Some entertainment needed to be in order. Of course, the day Kaiya and Faye’s murder was announced, he was paying attention and was quite saddened for their death.

When he stepped up to give his whole “pick me” speech he scratched his forehead with his thumb while searching for something intelligent to say. Winning people over was not his specialty, however being brutally honest was.

“Hello, everyone bored and un-bored alike. My name is Giles Audley. I am an Empath which means holding this position puts an extra burden on me since I’m an old fart and have had this ability for a while now. Yet I can keep myself together, can stay emotionally unattached and can hold authority well without abusing it. Though people might know me and beg to differ I’m a Cardiologist who loves my job." Actually many would beg to differ on everything he was saying. But anyways. "What can this do for the Vice Council? To be honest I have no idea. But it might be nice to have someone on the board who is old and has a sense of humor.”

He probably had one more thing to say before he left and he said it bluntly without seeming all too rude. “The citizens of Elysium are bored sometimes. When events like this happen when we lose people dear to us, I don’t think we can afford to be bored. I’d be a good person to help fix that. “

With that being said, he got off the podium and allowed the next person to speak.

Dominic Powell: Nomination Acceptance

Dominic didn't quite have a speech prepared for his acceptance speech, but he did make his way from the crowd and over toward the stage. The siren carried himself with confidence, shoulders back with head held high as he stood at the podium. He cleared his throat, accompanied with a polite 'excuse me' before he began to speak. Naturally, he ensured that the words he spoke would be like silk to those who listened. Not everyone in the audience would be completely susceptible to his powers, but it would make him seem that much more appealing in the long run. Dominic wanted this position, and he wasn't above using his powers for it.

"Ladies and gentleman," he began. He pressed a palm to his chest. "I don't want to bore you with idle words, so let me get straight to the point. My name is Dominic Powell, and I am very interested in running for the Vice-Council simply because I care about this place." As fluid as water, his voice and words were laced with his subtle magic. No one would be aware that he was using it, unless that person was another siren.

"I'm not saying that I'm more qualified than any of the other men who were nominated tonight, and I don't know if I have anything to offer the council. I just know that I am passionate about this place we all call home, and I'd like to be able to help make it a safer place for everyone. Like you, I am a citizen of this haven, and I would like the chance to be one of the voices that speaks for the people. Thank you."

Dominic bowed his head before the crowd, smiling and waving to everyone as he walked off the stage, making way for the next person. The siren would have been proud to work with any of the men nominated tonight, sizing each of them up for their usefulness in the upcoming future.

Midori Kamiyama: Nomination Accepted

Midori made her way to the stage. Her nomination came as no surprise, as she had nominated herself. However, there was some question in the back of her mind. Had Mitsuko possibly nominated her as well?

Midori went to the podium and faced the crowd. "I am Kamiyama Midori. For the past eighty years, I have served at the leader of the Tenko Kitsune clan. I served as emissary of the Kitsune to other praeternatural species around the world. At the time of the outbreak, I became an escort, bringing people to the havens. I have dedicated my life to serving others and would like to continue. I am fully trained in diplomacy, have a vast knowledge on praeternaturals and am fluent several languages. With so many citizens coming from all over the world, it is important to be able to bridge the cultural gaps. Even if I am not elected to the Vice Council, I promise to serve the community of Elysium to the best of my abilities. Thank you."

With a slight bow, Midori left the stage.

Devin Blair: Nomination Acceptance
[info]creativejustice
2009-01-05 11:23 am UTC (link)
There was a brief moment where Devin considered declining his nomination because for once in his life he didn’t know how he could handle a job that required a good amount of responsibility. Well, he could do it easily; it was more of a “Do I want to” sort of thing. Plus, he was somewhat surprised that he was nominated. Most of the encounters he had with others were not pleasant ones. But, it was good to know he was considered. Whatever miracle bit him in the ass to land him among the nominees was going to be very interesting during the competition.

He stepped to the podium with intentions to be simple but as affective as he could without being vulgar or seeming like his absurd self that he presented days ago. “You’re probably used to all of the hellos by now. But I’ll quickly introduce myself. I’m Devin Blair. Though I could go on about how I am a defense lawyer and that may qualify me as someone who could defend the wrongfully accused I can do more than what my job title limits me to do.”

He rubbed the back of his neck for a moment before continuing. “Though I can not speak for all of the citizens of Elysium, I think it is safe to say that after the murders of Kaiya and Faye the citizens worry about their safety and may lose faith in just how ‘safe’ this place truly is. As a council member I would help ensure the safety of this haven because the last thing we need are people feeling like they can’t go out at night in fear that they may be assaulted. I may not be as good with people like some of the other nominees are. But, I can say that I personally would want someone on the council who was dedicated to making sure this haven was safe day and night and not to mention someone quite familiar with the law. If that’s what everyone else is seeking then I’m the person for that.”

He gave a simple nod then stepped from the podium and stood with the others.

Corisanthias Xyllaniasodas: Nomination Acceptance
[info]beluga_man
2009-01-12 03:55 pm UTC (link)
His first instinct was to run away as fast as possible. Him? Nominated? He could barely begin to fathom such a thing. Yet, they had called his name. Once the initial shock began to dissipate he considered it more carefully. He had been good at leading hunts beneath the waves. He would be impartial in judgment, considering he had very little experience with the people around Elysium. He would not be quick to let emotion guide him.

By the time he was being ushered onto the stage, he was quite confident that he could make a very capable member of the council.

Up until he tripped on the third stair and flopped himself onto the stage. He ignored the laughter as he picked himself up, cursing his legs.

He stepped up to the podium and stared out at the faces staring at him. He could feel his instincts once again telling him to run, but he cleared his voice and began to speak, in his awkward loud monotone.

"I must say I am a little shocked to be standing here. Most of you I have not met, and so I suppose introductions are in order. I am Corisanthias Xyllaniasodas."

He paused here to place his fist to his heart and bow.

"Though my experiences outside of the waters of my home are limited, I will say that I am not without experience in matters of leadership, sacrifice, and placing the needs of the many above the needs of the few. In fact, it is those three reasons that I stand before you today. I was brought here after a long battle with a Sperm Whale which nearly destroyed my village, and it was from this that I washed up on the shores outside this place, nearly dead and far from home."

He thought for a second and realized he was talking too much about himself, he had to address them.

"But we are all far from home are we not? Far from home, a little confused, and perhaps even terrified. I know that I certainly feel that way every day I wake up in this place. Especially with talk of murder and the like. And perhaps my inexperience with this land may make me seem as if I am not qualified, but let me just say this..."

Here, his normally emotionless face actually helped to emphasize his points.

"I can promise that emotion will not lead me to make sacrifices that are unnecessary. I can promise that if given this responsibility, I personally will always put the many before the few, your needs before mine. And most of all I can promise that if given this...amazing opportunity, I will work my hardest to find who or whatever is responsible for desecrating this safe haven with an act of murder and will personally lead the hunt to bring the culprit to responsibility, even at the cost of my life if necessary. I may not have experience dealing with laws and councils, but what I lack in experience I make up for in dedication. There could be no greater honor for me than to be a representative for all of you fine people, and though you may not know it, for my people honor is our most important ideal. I am Corisanthias Xyllaniasodas, and I will end by thanking you all for this chance."

He repeated his bow and then walked off the stage, barely managing to catch himself as he stumbled down the steps, both from his nerves and his clumsiness. He didn't know what he was in for, but he would approach it with the same fervor he approached the hung.
