Who: Charlie and Riley
When: Afternoon
Where: The Gift Shop
What: Charlie goes to his favorite friend for some help

Charlie was a boy on a mission. Ever since his sister told him about the incident at the festival the night before he had made the decision that he had to talk to this Irei person mano-e-mano. Charlie also decided that he had to defend his sister's honor, and if that man had made her cry then he would have to go and beat him up. The only problem with that was that Charlie didn't know any moves that would be good in a fight.

His only hope was to talk with Riley, his favorite therianthrope who just also happened to be a professional boxer. Riley was also Charlie's favorite grown-up outside of Ms. Emily. He knew that his friend (who had become an older sister mentor type) was working at the Gift Shop, and so the young boy went there after he had woken up and dressed.

Every step that Charlie took was filled with determination, and the more he thought about Chris's story, the more he wanted to ream the guy who made her cry. Chris was the only family he had left, and it really made him mad that someone had been mean to her. He ground his teeth together at the thought, and he would have charged right through the Gift Shop's door were he not worried about breaking something in the process.

The therianthrope entered the shop, and smiled at the girl behind the counter. "Hi!" Despite his bad mood, he was cheerful when it came to greeting Riley. He went straight to the counter, and leaned forward against it. "What's up?"

“Thank you have a nice day.” Riley told a customer and watched them leave. She noticed that there weren’t too many costumers coming in today. When she woke up she just sensed that something wasn’t right. Maybe sometimes people did bad things after parties like have sex with people they didn’t know and now they walked the Marketplace afraid of who they would encounter and that’s why there was some strange feeling going about. But it seemed much darker than that. She tried to brush off the thought by humming a song and stocked some new items.

Halloween was fun, she hoped she would see Max again since he was a really cool guy. She didn’t know how Halloween would have been without him. Though it would have been good to see Charlie too, it still was a wonderful festival.

Well she would be damned! The minute she heard Charlie’s voice she stopped what she was doing and ran over to him to give him a hug. “Charlie!” She broke away from him after a few moments then tilted her head to inspect him. “God, I’m going to sound like a big sister or like a mother, but you look bigger every time I see you!” Her eyes twinkled with happiness, she really needed to see the boy more often! “Not to mention cuter. The girls must be chasin’ after you!”

“What have you been up to?” She could tell something was up underneath that cheery expression, but Riley would wait to pry it out of him once she at least got to say hello to him and got to see how he was doing.

Charlie returned Riley's enthusiastic hug, and blushed at her declaration. He actually didn't mind that she started to sound like a sister since he had already started to think of her in that light. She was such an awesome girl to hang out with, not to mention really kick-ass and pretty. Charlie would have been glad to have someone like her as an older sister.

"I'm not that cute," he retorted with a shy smile. He ran his fingers through his hair, and then laughed a little. "Speaking of cute..." he began to say slyly. "I voted for you at the festival. Your costume was really..." he paused, searching for the right word. It seemed a little weird to call his older 'sister' hot, so he opted for another word. "Amazing. Princess Leia, for the win!" He held his hand up to give her a high five, and then moved over toward the counter to lean against it again.

"I haven't been up to much lately," he said with a shrug. "I met a centaur the other day, changed so that we could run around in the fields. That was fun. Hey, you and me should run around in our forms sometimes. It might freak people out to see a puma chasing after a pronghorn." Charlie let out a small chuckle, and then turned around to rest his elbows on the counter. He laughed a little bit more and then sighed.

"But... there is a reason I stopped by today, other than I missed seeing you, I mean." And that was the truth. Charlie killed two birds with one stone by coming to the Gift Shop today, and he really hoped that Riley would help him with his problem once she heard the full story.

When Charlie said he wasn’t cute, Riley waved her hand towards him. “Oh nonsense! You know that’s not true. The ladies are going to go nuts over you once you get old enough to date the older ones. Well, that is if you aren't dating that pretty lady anymore! You’ll make your sister protective of you, not the other way around!” Riley just had this sense that the two of them were very close to each other. Sure, siblings were close. But some siblings would seriously do anything for each other or were very protective over each other. Charlie seemed to be the type with his sister.

Riley gave a small, flattered laugh when she learned Charlie voted for her. She always was shy when it came to being told she looked pretty or good in something. It was when she was told she kicked ass when she was the “Oh I know” type of girl. “Aww, well thank you. Princess Lea was seriously one of the last chicks who stood up for themselves! Besides video games girls rarely seem to kick some butt you know?” She saw it in some horror movies and of course lead roles in action movies like Resident Evil. But when the girl was a secondary role, she seemed so helpless! “That means a lot that you voted for me.”

The Therianthrope couldn’t help but love the idea of the two of them running through the open areas of Elysium together. “Could you imagine us doing that!? What if I even ran behind you like I was chasing you? People would freak out! It would be the coolest thing ever. I think you can even run faster than me for a longer time. Most cats can only run fast for a short period of time.” She almost stated sadly. “That means you’d have me beat! So if we played tag that way, I’d really have to step up my game.”

She knew something was wrong! Riley titled her head and sat on the counter, inviting Charlie to sit with her. “I sensed something was up. What’s the matter?” She wondered with a tilt of a head.

Charlie was fourteen, so of course his natural response to Riley's statement caused his to turn as red as a beet. He cleared his throat, and turned his face downward to hide the color and to regain his composure. After a few moments he looked back up at Riley, and gave her a small smile. "Yeah... I'm still dating Echo," he said finally but he didn't say any more only because there wasn't anything to reveal about their relationship. They were only 14 and 13 respectively, and they still had a lot to learn about the whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing.

He was glad when they switched topics since the whole relationship thing made him feel uncomfortable. Maybe he was still too shy to be candid about it. But the talk about the festival and them hanging out was more fun, and Charlie enjoyed it immensely. "We should so freak out people," he said enthusiastically. "Oh my god, it would be hilarious!" He started laughing heartily, doubling over to hold onto his stomach. The mental image was just too funny, and he wondered if Riley saw the same thing in her head.

After a while though, the meat of the conversation came forth. Charlie had come to ask Riley something very specific, and he hoped that she would help him. "So it's like this," he began, a very serious look on his face. "Some guy made my sister cry, and I need to go and beat him up for it. But I don't know how to fight, not really anyway, and since you're like a champ and stuff I was wondering if you could show me some kickass moves. Cause you know, I can't let that dude get away with making Chris cry."

Yes, Charlie was very protective of his sister. He was her big brother after all and he considered it part of his job to stand up for her. One day he'd have to introduce Chris to Riley; he was sure that his sister would love the older woman. She was too cool to not like, in Charlie's opinion anyway.

OH, well hell to the no with making a sibling cry. Though Riley didn’t give a crap about her blood siblings, she cared deeply about her siblings back at the reservation. When any of them were harmed she was fierce about protecting them. They did the same for her and it was a tight pact. So, Riley could understand where Charlie was coming from. “…who is this man? Oh, I will totally come over there and beat his ass into tomorrow!” Riley cleared her throat and covered her mouth. No, this was about Charlie. He deserved his glory by kicking this turds ass!

“Well, okay. I can help you out. But I must give you some crucial advice. Lure him into a place where you can run if he gets too overwhelming. The last thing I want is for you to get hurt. The next thing is, kick him in places where it counts..really counts to cripple him. He deserves it for..well..being a place where it counts!” She exclaimed frankly. She was pissed someone would bully his sister and make Charlie upset. “Plus if you kick him where it counts, it will make him cry too so you will be even.”

The Therianthrope threw a curious glance towards the young boy. “Please though, be careful. I don’t want you throwing punches at a giant okay? I mean it when I say the last thing I would want is for you to be hurt. It worries me.” Riley would have hate to have gotten Charlie psyched up only to have him fiercely beaten down by some horrible bully.

“This guy got a name by the way?”

"Some guy named Irei Arakiki or some shit-" Charlie covered his mouth quickly, realizing that he was in front of an adult. Though she was a sister type, she was still an adult and he couldn't say curse words in front of her. "I mean... stuff." He looked around a little nervously. "Sorry," he said clearing his throat a bit. Charlie whole-heartedly agreed with Riley - this guy deserved to get his ass kicked!

He listened to her advice carefully, taking into consideration everything she was saying. She made very good points, though Charlie was beginning to think he might not be big enough to beat up this guy. Heck, he didn't even know what this guy looked like! That would be the first thing he'd have to find out.

"I'll be careful, which is why I need you to train me!" He made a few punches in the air to show that he meant business. "I mean, I guess I could try talking to this guy first. Get him to apologize to my sister for all the stuff he did. He's some adult from what Chris told me. What the heck kind of adult makes a little girl cry anyway!" He sighed and shook his head. He didn't like that one bit, and he didn't know any other way to handle.

"Oh, and don't tell Chris I called her 'a little girl.' She hates that. If she were here and she heard that, she'd punch me good."

“That’s my boy!!” Riley said after he said shit. “Er..I mean. Yeah, that is a bad word. You shouldn’t say that.” She then let somewhat of an evil grin arise. “At least all the time. It makes you seem like a potty mouthed bad boy. Though some girls do like that, I must admit.” Okay Riley, you had better stop that. She was supposed to be a role model!

It was good that Charlie thought about talking to the man first. Though Riley was one hell of a spitfire, she liked to talk things out first. Or at least try. Often times she was cursing through talking-but hey no fists were involved. “Tell you what. I think that it is a great idea that you want to talk to this meanie before you get some fighting action involved. But, let me teach you some sneak attacks. Wouldn’t it be cool to hit him when he least expects it?” Oh, she felt bad. But it would be cool to hear Charlie talk about how he decked some guy in the face without him expecting it. “Are you up for that?”

She chuckled when it came to his sister, Chris. “You have my oath that I won’t talk about your sister being a little girl. Though I am sure she hates it, it’s good that you want to take care of her.”

Charlie beamed at his role model - yeah, Riley had pretty much become that in his eyes. The young boy had no problem looking up to a female either, especially since this particular female was kick ass! He couldn't help but smile a bit when she cheered his cursing, but he knew better than to do it all the time. He nodded at her words, taking them to heart. He wasn't about to start swearing like a sailor, but occasionally one or two bad words might slip by.

The idea of a sneak attack was awesome, and he nodded excitedly at the older woman. "Heck yeah! That sounds great!" He was secretly imagining the confrontation in his mind. Though he didn't know what Irei looked like, he generically thought of someone tall with dark hair, beady eyes, and a mustache. For some reason, bad guys always had a mustache in Charlie's head. "If he doesn't properly apologize, then I can BAM! Hit 'em when he ain't lookin'!" He laughed a bit evilly and rubbed his hands together. Oh yes, he knew he would enjoy hitting the guy who made his sister cry immensely.

Charlie came back to reality though at the thought of his sister. He smiled at Riley, rubbing the back of his neck in a somewhat shy manner. "She's my twin," he said calmly. "She's all I've got left. If I don't take care of her, who will?"

Riley loved Charlie’s spirit, it made her near beam. He was a lot like her when she was his age. She would run around the reserve and ask her friends to teach her new things with such enthusiasm. Sometime it drove them nuts, but they still loved to teach the Therianthrope new things. Charlie could never get on Riley’s nerves. He was like a younger brother she never had.

She leaned into Charlie like she was telling him the biggest secret ever. “Sometimes, it’s okay to play a move like a kid.” She smirked. “One time, this girl was a total..you know what to me and since I am so short I pretended that I wasn’t bothered by it and I walked behind her. Then, when she wasn’t paying attention, I jumped on her back!” She laughed at admitting it, but it was a good tactic. “What you do with that is you hook your arm around their neck and then press your fist as hard as you can against the side of their throat. They start to lose oxygen and will naturally do what you say in order to break free of your grip. If not, they will fall to the ground.”

She lifted up a finger. “If they start to fall backwards, quickly get off and proceed to either threaten to hit them with a fist lifted up or threaten to continue to choke them. I mean, I know it sounds violent, but if they don’t give in while you’re near choking them to death while on their back, they are pretty dumb.”

She gave such intense advise because she was deeply moved at how serious Charlie was into protecting his sister.

Charlie knew his mother would have never given him the sort of advice that Riley was dispensing to him freely. His mother would have told him to "leave the guy alone" or "don't worry about it". She was a scientist, one who believed that things could be worked out if only a person thought about what the best solution could be. Violence never solved anything, in her opinion. Charlie's dad wasn't as bad, and though he wouldn't exactly promote violence, he was all for Charlie protecting Chris.

At least Riley was giving him the knowledge he needed to defend himself if he needed, or to at least get one over on the Irei guy. He laughed at Riley's story and he found himself vividly imagining the scene in his head. It was an awesome move and he wondered if he could do anything like that. He had to work hard at remembering it.

"Right," he said with a nod of his head. "Do you think that maybe we can go to the gym sometime and work on those moves? You know, so that I'm good at them?" He was hoping Riley would say yes, especially since hanging out with her was so much fun. "I mean, I don't know when I'm going to see this guy, but I wanna be prepared for when I do. Even if I don't see him for like... months I'll still confront him about Chris. Things like that don't just go away, y'know?"

He sighed a little bit and leaned against the counter. "Thanks Riley," he said with a smile. "You're like the coolest girl I know who isn't related to me." He beamed at her and then looked around the store to see if anyone else was in there with them. "Hey, do you want to go get something to eat?" He asked with a hopeful gleam in his eyes. "That is, if you can leave the store for a little bit."

“Sure!” Riley stated with a laugh. “I don’t mind you jumping on my back while trying to choke me!” She was still chuckling while she finished the statement. She could just picture the image of Charlie on her back, trying to choke her. It would probably look more like a piggy back ride if anything. But she would make sure that eventually it would look way more intimidating than that.

“I’m here anytime you know? I’m always here and don’t be afraid to talk to me about anything. I know it may be weird that I’m a girl, but just close your eyes and I’ll talk like a dude if you need to talk about more serious things. I promise, it will be totally cool.”

Riley felt flattered that she was considered cool. It had been awhile that she had heard that. Max thought she was cool and Charlie thought she was cool so that felt awesome. “You know, you’re pretty darn cool yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you different.”

The Therianthrope hopped over the table and stood next to Charlie. “I have all the time in the world for you, kid. Come on, let’s go.” She clasped her hand on Charlie’s shoulder then began to walk with him out of the store and towards the café.
